Chloe sighed as she stepped into the elevator leading to her apartment. She had sent Ray and Nia up to the apartment hours ago, and Naida and Jon had left shortly after it had been decided that the Master couldn’t arrive before sunset the following night simply because Naida was having trouble with everyone asking her questions about her people.
Chloe had watched everyone in her comfort group leave until only her, Bill, and Spencer had remained to hand out orders. It had become evident, though, after an hour of putting everyone into hunting parties that Bill was too worn out to continue, having been up constantly for more than twenty-four hours. Spencer had escorted the exhausted Bill to his apartment, leaving Chloe to deal with the last remaining duties alone.
That had been four hours ago, and Chloe was more than happy to be heading to bed. It was the only thing she could think of as she stepped out of the elevator and into her empty living room.
She frowned at the empty couch, having been expecting to find Ray there. She walked to the room that Alex had formally occupied, where Nia was now staying, to see if Nia was there. What she found instead was Ray and Nia in a rather interesting position.
She closed the door quickly and went into the kitchen, trying to find something to gauge out her eyes. Thudding from the other room let her know that Nia and Ray were making their way to her just as she found a two liter body of Dr. Pepper, a large bottle of vodka, and a gallon of warm blood. She mixed them quickly and down it as she heard the bedroom door open.
She was downing a second cocktail when she heard Nia’s voice. “Chloe, I am so sorry. We so didn’t think you would be back yet.”
“CC, I’m … I don’t know what to say.” Ray’s voice sounded strained, like he was afraid of what Chloe would think. Did her opinion of him mean so much to him?
Chloe turned to look at her “aunt” and “uncle” to get an answer to just that question. They were standing a few feet apart, Nia in a large T-shirt and her undies, Ray in his boxers. The look on his face said it all, and Chloe merely sighed, shaking her head as she made another drink.
There was a few minutes of silence in which Chloe could hear Nia and Ray’s hearts speed up in nervous anticipation. “I’m not mad, guys. I’m just a little weirded out at the fact that I just saw my aunt and uncle going at it like rabbits. It was not the end to the day I wanted.”
There were soft sighs of relief from Nia and Ray. Chloe felt Ray’s hand on her shoulder and frowned, having not heard him move. Too much alcohol and too little sleep was the only thing she could figure it being. She finished the rest of her drink and turned to hug him, forgetting for an instant that he was in his underwear.
She pulled back and shook her head. “I need sleep, and the last thing I see before I go to bed shouldn’t be my uncle in his boxers. Have either of you heard from Spencer?”
“Yeah. He ran downstairs about 45 minutes ago to get something to eat. He should be back by …” The elevator dinged and cut Nia off mid-sentence. She shrugged and gestured to the door as Spencer walked out. “Now.”
Chloe nodded and walked over to Spencer, wrapping her arms around his waist. “I need to get to bed now. Are you coming?”
Spencer smiled and nodded. “I thought you’d never ask.” He frowned a little and pulled back from her, holding her chin so that she was looking at him. “You smell like vodka and blood.”
“I should. I just drank half a gallon of both.”
“Why?”
“You know, that’s a question I forgot to ask.” Chloe turned back to Nia and Ray, frowning. “Why? I know that uncle Frankie is dead, but um, I don’t know what I’m asking.”
Nia and Ray exchanged a look and they both sighed. “Ray and I have been best friends since your mother was killed the first time, when we changed him back. There has always been an attraction between us, but I was too in love with Frank to want to do anything about it. One of the reasons Ray left was because, um, we had started to have feelings, um, deeper than we were meant to have.” She held her hand up before Chloe could speak. “I never stopped being madly in love with you Uncle Frankie, ever. I don’t think I ever will stop, but you can be in love with two people at once. I felt for Ray the same way I felt for Frank, and it was destroying me. That’s why Ray left us.”
Chloe kept her mouth closed for a moment, careful about what she said next. “So now that Frankie’s gone, you can have Ray?”
“No, no! Don’t think like that, Chloe. I’m not that evil of a person. I …” She stopped and looked down at her hands for a moment before speaking very quietly. “Frank knew that he was going to die. And he knew how I felt about Ray. He made me and Ray both swear to him that if he died before I did that Ray and I would keep each other happy.”
Chloe looked at Ray, frowning deeper than she had all night. “Is this true, Ray-Ray?”
“Unfortunately, CC, yes, it’s true. He called me about two weeks before his death and made me meet him here in New Haven. He made me promise to take care of you and Alex as well. I knew he thought it was the end for him, but I didn’t know that he knew of his end.” Ray looked sadder than he had since the day Chloe’s parents and two uncles had been buried.
Chloe sighed and shook her head. “OK, it’s justified. I’m good now. Off to bed.”
She didn’t wait for them to say more but headed into her room and smiled at the new bed complete with new sheets and bed spread. She loved Bill. He would definitely take care of her every need, as he had once told her.
She heard Nia and Ray outside the bedroom explaining to Spencer what had been going on as she took her clothes off, jumping into the shower quickly before drying off and climbing between her sheets, letting the cool cotton touch her bare skin. She looked up as the door opened and Spencer walked in, though her eyes were already heavy.
“Do you want company tonight, Chloe, or am I sleeping solo?”
Chloe smiled with her eyes half open. “Take off your clothes and get into this bed.”
Spencer smiled and stripped down to nothing, climbing into the bed beside her. She reached for him and he wrapped his arms around her. She was asleep in his arms almost as soon as they were around her.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Chloe smiled as she kissed Spencer’s chest and crawled from the bed. She opened the window and stretched naked in the morning sunlight. She had woken in the middle of the night to find Spencer had awoken with her. One thing led to another, and they had ended up scratching the hell out of each other’s backs. She had known that at some point, while she was screaming in ecstasy, that Nia or Ray or maybe even both of them, had run to see what was wrong. At least now she couldn’t complain about finding them like they had been yesterday.
She walked into the bathroom and showered as fast as she could, trying not to wake Spencer up. Fifteen minutes later, clean and dressed, she stepped from the bathroom and smiled, seeing Spencer still asleep, hearing his steady breathing and rhythmic heartbeat as he slept. She knew that this must be what it’s like to be in love, but it was still so new and unusual to her.
Shaking her head, she slipped out of the bedroom, closing the door softly behind her, and heading into the small kitchen. She could hear Alex and Brendon’s breathing coming from Spencer’s room, which had quickly been converted to Alex’s room, apparently, at some point while she had been handling business downstairs. Alex had thought that, since Spencer and Chloe were now officially a couple and “having relations”, as he so adequately put it, that it would be the best bet for everyone if she and Spencer shared a room. She had complained at the time, but now she didn’t think it was such a bad idea.
Nia’s soft breathing and steady heartbeat could be heard from the other room, but Ray’s wasn’t in the room with her. Chloe was a little confused, but smiled as she found him in the kitchen, looking through the fridge. “The eggs are on the second shelf in the back.”
Ray jumped at the sound of her voice, but smiled and hugged her as he turned around. “Hey, baby. How did you know I was looking for the eggs?”
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You taught me that. I figure if you’re here that you’re thinking of making breakfast for everyone up here. I was actually on my way to do the same thing.”
“Then I guess you are my assistant chef.” Ray found the eyes and pulled the eggs from the shelf, handing them to Chloe.
Smiling, she set them on the counter and moved around the room grabbing pans and other ingredients to put in the omelets she knew Ray was about to make. She opened a cabinet in the back and smiled, pulling out the rest of the gallon of blood she had almost finished the night before. She poured herself a glass and drank a little of it, feeling her eyes go a solid green for an instant. She felt Ray’s eyes on her and looked at him. “What?”
“Nothing, CC. I’m just glad you’ve embraced your vampire. Your mother never did.” He shrugged and dropped another cooked omelet onto a plate. He went back to cooking like he hadn’t cared about her drinking blood in front of him. Chloe didn’t think anything about it as they made toast and bacon as well as some biscuits and sausages.
They set all the food on the bar and Ray nodded to Chloe. “You get Spencer and the boys and I’ll get Nia. You know how she is.”
“Good luck.” Chloe winked at Ray playfully as he rolled his eyes. Nia was one of the hardest people that Chloe had ever met to wake up, so she was glad Ray was doing that task.
Opening Alex’s door carefully, she noticed that the two boys were still asleep and smiled, running and jumping into the middle of the bed, landing hard between the two boys. “Get up, get up, get up!!! Breakfast is getting cold.”
Alex shot upright and looked at Chloe. “Breakfast?” He threw the blankets off and grabbed some jeans off the floor, pulling them on over his nude body before heading into the kitchen. “And before you say anything, Chlo, I won’t eat everything.”
Chloe smiled and turned to Brendon, who returned her smile. “Good morning, beautiful.”
“Good morning yourself, handsome. Ray and I made your favorites. Omelets and toast. You had better get in there before Alex eats your portion too.”
“I know, I know.” Brendon climbed out of the bed and walked naked around it, grabbing a pair of boxers out of the drawer in the far dresser. He pulled them on and then grabbed jeans and a nice shirt. He was definitely the more feminine of the two, but that’s why Chloe loved him so much.
She couldn’t resist as she climbed from the bed and wrapped her arms around his bare waist before he could get his clothes on. “Have you ever been told that you have an amazing body, Brendon? I just love to watch you move around the room. If you were straight, I wouldn’t be with Spencer, you know that, right?”
Brendon laughed and turned around in Chloe’s arms, kissing her lightly on the lips. “I know, Chlo. Though I’m nowhere near as beautiful as Ryan, so why would you want me when you know you could have had him a dozen times over?”
“Ryan knows he’s beautiful, Bren. It makes him cocky. I don’t like the cocky ones. I like the ones that have something greater to offer than cocky bullshit and beauty. You don’t know your beautiful and make up for that fact with intelligence and kindness. Spencer’s the same way. He’s handsome, but his brains are magnificent.”
Brendon smiled that smile that meant he was going to do something stupid. He shoved Chloe onto the bed and straddled her. “You are now in my clutches, princess.”
Chloe smiled and feigned distress. “Oh no, Evil One! Let go of me.”
Brendon smiled and kissed Chloe playfully on the lips before collapsing his whole body on top of hers. “It was good for me. Was it good for you too?”
Chloe laughed and shook her head. “Mind blowing.” She wrapped her arms around Brendon where he had his head laying on her shoulder and sighed. “I remember when we used to do this as kids and your parents encouraged it. I guess I know why now.”
“Yeah. They always encouraged me to be with the girls. They thought you were my ‘special friend’. You are, but not like they thought. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Chlo, I would have sex with you in a heartbeat, gay or not, but you’re too much my best friend for that.” Brendon sat up on his elbows, moving his knees between her legs in an even more awkward position than they had been in before, but Chloe was oblivious. “I’m just glad that you and Nia can accept me and Alex. I don’t know what I would do if you didn’t.”
Chloe brought her hand up to his face and held it for moment, leaning up to kiss him. “Why wouldn’t we accept you, Brendon? We love you. We love Alex. You’re happy together. That’s all we want.”
Brendon playfully shuttered as Chloe wrapped her arms around his bare chest and hugged him tight, kissing just over the big pulse in his throat. “Oh, Chloe! Oh!” He started to playfully scream like they were doing something completely opposite than what they were really doing. It was at this moment that Chloe realized how they were laying.
The cough from the door alerted her to Spencer’s presence, but she had already given Brendon the smile that said she would play along. “Oh, Brendon! You’re so amazing! Just like that!”
Brendon smiled at Chloe and then looked over his shoulder. “Oh, Spencer, hi! Didn’t see you there. Can we help you?”
“I see you’ve found other ways to entertain yourself, Chloe.” Spencer’s face held a smile that said he knew that Chloe and Brendon were just goofing off. “So? Care to share, Brendon? She can be the middle of our little manwich. What do you think?”
Brendon smiled and patted the bed beside him. “I’m more than willing to share with you, Spencer. Though we might have to get Alex in on this little love fest.”
“No, Brendon! He’s my cousin. That’s just weird.” Chloe shuttered playfully.
“Did someone say ‘love fest’? I’m all in.” Alex walked into the room and flopped onto the bed on the opposite of Spencer. Brendon was still laying on Chloe, but she was laughing too hard to think about it.
She stopped laughing enough to think about the situation and laughed harder. “I’m in a bed with two guys in their boxers and one in a pair of jeans. I feel like such a slut.”
“Well, go with the feeling, Chlo.” Chloe hit Brendon for his comment. “Ow! Oh, I do like it rough.”
“Am I interrupting something?” Bill walked into the room, laughing slightly at the sight of the four piled either on top of, or around Chloe on the bed. “Interesting little meeting you have going on here, Chloe.”
“What meeting?” Nia stepped into the doorway behind Bill, rubbing her eyes, Ray in tow. She stopped dead in her tracks and shook her head. “If I hadn’t raised two of you, I would find this highly unusual.”
Chloe shoved Brendon to where she could sit up a little, though he still knelt between her legs. “What’s up, Bill?”
“I’d like to ask you the same thing, Chloe.”
“Shut up! We were just goofing off. Haven’t you ever seen two barely-out-of-the-teenagers-stage adults having a little fun?”
“Oh I’ve seen them have just that version of fun, Chloe.” Bill’s smirk was enough to make Chloe grab the pillow behind her head and throw it at him. “Ooo, kinky.”
“William Eugene Valentine!” Chloe shook her head and took a deep breath. “What are you doing up here this early in the morning?”
Bill got that look on his face that said he had some juicy tidbit of information that she would love to hear. It also meant that the news wasn’t bad. “Well … I was on my way up here to steal breakfast but decided to make a detour and check to see that Naida was ok from her first day out yesterday. Oh my Prada, guess who was down there with her? … Since you’re not going to guess, I’ll just tell you. Jon Walker! I walked into the room and saw them buck naked and going at it like me and … Never mind, you get it.”
Chloe raised an eyebrow at the last comment, but turned her attention to Spencer, thinking about the immediate problem. “Spencer, are you okay?”
“I’ll be right back, Chloe.” Spencer got up and started to head to the door.
“Spencer!” Chloe moved out from under Brendon and grabbed Spencer’s arm. “Don’t do anything stupid. And if you do go down there, put some pants on.”
Spencer looked down and headed into the bedroom he now shared with Chloe, pulling a bare of jeans on and a shirt over his head, heading into the elevator before Chloe could stop him again.
“I hope he doesn’t get himself killed.”
“What?” Chloe turned to Bill, shock on her face.
“Um, did I forget to mention that not only is Jon the best gunman in the world but he’s a werebear?”
“Shit, Bill!” Chloe ran to the elevator with a now dressed Alex and Brendon behind her. She so didn’t want to lose Spencer over something stupid like his sister having sex with someone she truly seemed to like. Here’s hoping Chloe’s super speed could get here there in time. Before something truly horrible happened.
