Chapter 13: It Makes Me Ill
∞♥♥∞
March arrived, and Chris had come to stay with me at my Seattle home. It was supposed to be a great time for us to enjoy my hometown together. After all, I hoped he would be living there with me one day. However, things don’t always turn out as planned. We hadn’t even been in Seattle a day when he started to feel sick.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him when we got back from the airport. He was starting to look a little pale.
“I don’t know. I was fine on the flight over, but ever since we began landing, I started feeling a little gross.” He sat down in one of the easy chairs.
“I’ll get you a drink. Maybe you just got a little air sick,” I said heading into the kitchen to get him some orange juice.
“I never get sick from flying. I’ve flown so much, I just get accustomed to it,” he said as I poured the juice into a glass.
“Well, you know what they say. There’s a first time for everything.” I walked back into the living room and saw that he had now switched to the couch, where he was now lying on his back.
“Maybe we should get you upstairs to bed. A little nap might make you feel better,” I suggested. “I’ll bring your juice upstairs for you.”
He nodded, and stood up. “That sounds like a good idea. Thank you.”
So we headed into the bedroom, and I set his glass down on the night stand. “Do you want to take a shower before you lie down?”
He shook his head. “I really don’t think I can. I just feel so sick.” He stripped off his shirt and took off his socks and shoes. “It’s so hot in here. Do you have the heat up?”
“No. In fact, the air is on.”
“Well I’m hot,” he said, undoing the belt, button, and zipper to his jeans and stepping out of them as well.
I pulled the covers back, and helped him into bed. “You really must be sick,” I said, starting to worry a little now.
“I’ll be fine. I’m just tried from the flight over. Will you lie down with me and hold me? I’m a little cold.”
I scrunched my face in confusion. “You just said you were hot.”
“Well now I’m cold.”
“Do you want your shirt back?”
He shook his head. “I just want you to hold me.”
I certainly wasn’t going to say no to that, so I slipped out of my own socks and shoes and climbed into bed with him. I held him lose and kissed his shoulder. “Better?”
He nodded. “Much.” He snuggled his head in the crook of my neck, and then shut his eyes.
“Hopefully you’ll feel better soon. I enjoy taking you around Seattle,” I said with a slight smile, even though I knew he couldn’t see it.
“I’ll be better. I just need a little nap,” he said, his voice already sounding tired.
“All right.” I kissed his jaw. “I love you.”
When he didn’t say anything, I was hurt, but it was only for a split second. For I soon realized that he had fallen asleep, and that was why he hadn’t said it back.
I kissed him again. “Sleep well, beautiful.” I hoped he felt better. I hated seeing him sick.

I sat up in bed, and looked around for Blake. He wasn’t there. I climbed out of bed, feeling a little dizzy. I hoped I wasn’t seriously ill. “Blake? Are you home?” I asked. I walked down the stairs, and didn’t see Blake anywhere. I opened the door and saw his car parked in the driveway. He was definitely home. I just didn't know where.
Maybe he’s outside, I thought. I headed out back to see. “Blake? Blake, are you there?”
I heard splashing around in the pool, and headed over to it. “I know we’re in Seattle, but I don’t think it’s warm enough to be swimming. Aren't you cold?” I asked as I climbed up the steps to the pool. I expected to see Blake swimming around, but instead I saw Sanjaya. “Sanjaya? When did you get here?” I had to admit, I was surprised he was there. For one, I thought it was just going to be Blake and I while in Seattle, and for two, well, it was Sanjaya! I could see Blake inviting anyone but Sanjaya over. I knew Blake didn’t dislike Sanjaya as much as he led on, but I didn’t think he’d invite him over—especially when it was supposed to be our time alone together.
“I’ve been here for a while,” he said.
“Blake invited you over?”
“Blake begged me to come over.”
I had a hard time believing that. “Sanjaya, where is Blake?”
“He’s with Jordin. He wouldn’t swim with me, and neither would she. Will you?”
“Jordin’s here too? Where are they?”
“They’re in the pool house. Please swim with me.”
“I’m too cold too, Sanjaya, and I don’t feel well. I have to find Blake.”
“Please? Just for five minutes.”
“Sanjaya, I said no. I don’t even have a suit.”
Sanjaya shrugged. “Just go in your underwear. We’re both guys.”
“Yeah, and we’re also both attracted to other guys,” I reminded him.
“I promise not to be attracted to you.” He grinned.
“I certainly am not going to be attracted to you,” I said. I didn’t mean it as mean. It was just a fact.
“So then please swim with me?”
“Sanjaya, what is with you? I said no!”
Suddenly, Sanjaya’s eyes filled with tears, and he began to cry.
“Sanjaya, I’m sorry. Okay? I’m just cold and I don’t feel well. Don’t take it personal.”
His crying only increased, and it was getting louder.
“All right! I’ll swim with you. But it’s only going to be for five minutes. I have to find Blake.”
Sanjaya instantly stopped crying, which made me think he was faking before. “All right! Thank you!” He started clapping his hands and laughing as he jumped up and down with excitement.
“You’re acting weird,” I said as I stripped down to my boxer briefs. I could hardly believe I was doing this. I was cold, I was sick, and I needed to find Blake. I slid into the pool, hoping that Sanjaya wouldn’t try to con me into an extra five minutes.

Chris was stirring in his sleep, and I contemplated waking him. I decided not to. He was sick, and I knew he needed his sleep. I decided to get up and take a shower. I had skipped one earlier, for I was in a hurry to get the house nice before Chris arrived. I was always last minute. I grabbed some clean clothes, and then headed into the master bathroom to shower. I hoped Chris was all right. I didn’t feel good about him being both hot and cold. That was always a sign of illness. I wondered what he could possibly have wrong with him. I would take him to the doctor’s if he got worse. Hopefully it didn’t have to come to that. I guessed I’d find out after he woke up.

“Sanjaya, I’m tired of swimming.” I swam over to the side of the pool, and looked at my watch that I had set there. It had been five minutes exactly. “It’s been five minutes. I feel worse. I’m out of here. I gotta find Blake.” I pulled myself out of the pool. There were no towels around. I’d have to get one from the pool house, I knew.
Sanjaya got out of the pool. “I wouldn’t go in there if I were you.”
I turned to him. “Why not? You said Blake is in there, right?”
He nodded. “Yah, but he’s in there with Jordin.”
“So?” I headed down the pool stairs and towards the pool house.
“Honey, you don’t want to go in there. Let’s go back to the pool to wait for them.”
I whipped around at the new voice. There stood Melinda.
“Melinda, hey. Did Blake invite you here too?”
Melinda nodded. “But I wish he hadn’t.”
“Why?”
“You’ll be hurt if I tell you.” She took my arm. “Come on. Let’s go back to the pool.”
I gently pulled my arm away from her. “No. I want to find Blake. Sanjaya will swim with you if you want.”
Melinda shook her head, and grabbed my arm again, this time more forcefully. “Chris, trust me. You don’t want to go in there.”
“Melinda, let me go! I have to find Blake!” I didn’t know why everyone was acting so strange. I broke free from her grasp.
Suddenly, it started to rain down hard. I ran into the pool house, ignoring Melinda’s cries for me to come back.
I looked up to find Blake and Jordin making out on top of a deck chair.
“Blake?” I asked in surprise.
Blake and Jordin instantly looked up at me, both looking shocked.
“Blake, why? I thought you loved me.” I felt sick. I couldn’t hold it back any longer. I turned around and puked on the floor.

I finished my shower, and slipped into my clean clothes. When I left the bathroom, I saw that Chris was partly hanging over the side of the bed.
“Chris? Are you all right?” I walked over to his side of the bed, and winced as I saw that he had thrown up on the floor. “Lovely.” I looked up at him. His eyes were closed. “Chris?” When there was no response, I knew that he must have either thrown up in his sleep, or fallen back to sleep. I gently lifted his head up and laid it back down on his pillow.
I headed into the bathroom and got a wet washcloth, and then went back into the room and wiped his mouth with it. I kissed his forehead, and then discarded the washcloth in the towel hamper in the bathroom.
“You’re lucky I love you,” I said to him, though I knew he couldn’t hear me. I grabbed a bucket and filled it with water, then I grabbed a sponge and some floor cleaner and headed back into the bedroom to clean up the mess Chris had made. “I should have gotten hardwood floors,” I muttered.
After I cleaned the mess up, I tossed the sponge, and put everything else away. I put an empty bucket on the floor by Chris’ head, and then headed out of the room and down to the living room. I decided to call my doctor and see what he suggested.

I turned back to Blake. “How could you cheat on me? With Jordin nonetheless?”
“They’ve been cheating on you from the beginning. I was going to tell you, but they threatened me. They said they would turn Joe against me if I told,” Gina said.
“Gina? Where did you come from?” It was is if she had just suddenly appeared on the other side of the deck chair.
“How could they turn Joe against you? If you were a good friend, you would have told Chris,” Haley said, now suddenly at the door.
I felt dizzy.
“I’m sorry, Chris, but I am just not that into you anymore. I don’t want to be with a guy anymore. You’re lucky I loved you when I did. I love women too much to stay with a guy.”
I felt my heart break at Blake’s words. I couldn’t take it anymore. I pushed passed Haley and ran back towards the pool.
“I’ll take good care of him, Chris! Don’t worry!”
I ignored Jordin as I continued to run.
When I got up the stairs of the pool, I saw that LaKisha, Sligh, and Phil were up there with Sanjaya.
“What’s wrong?” Lakisha asked me, seeing that I was crying now.
“Blake cheated on me with Jordin,” I said through my sobs.
“I’ll beat that boy up! Where is he? I’m gonna knock his block off!” Lakisha began slapping a fist into her other hand.
“Now, now. We all know that violence is never the answer. Are you sure it wasn’t an accident?” Phil asked.
Sligh snorted. “Oh, yes, Phil. Blake accidentally cheated with Jordin.”
“And Jordin seemed like such a nice girl,” Sanjaya said.
“Well, have you talked to him about it?” Phil asked.
I nodded. “He said he is sick of being with a guy, and that he wants a girl! He said that I am lucky he even loved me when he did because he loves woman so much.” I burst into another round of tears.
“I’m sure he didn’t mean it.” Phil put an arm around me.
“Yes, I did. I love women! I’ll shout it out. I love women!” Blake had suddenly appeared back on the deck. He now had Haley on one arm, and Gina on the other. He turned to Gina and kissed her, and then he turned to Haley, and kissed her. Of course, he had French kissed both girls.
“What about me?” Jordin asked, standing in front of him now.
Blake grinned. “There is plenty of room for you too.” He leaned forward and French kissed her as well.
“Ah, what the heck, us too!” Melinda said, pushing Haley aside.
Blake grinned, and French kissed her. He then turned to LaKisha, who was standing behind him.
As soon as Blake went into kiss Lakisha, LaKisha lifted a deck chair and slammed it over his head.
Blake cried out, and fell backwards into the water, out cold, and bleeding from the head.
“Blake! No!” I cried, dropping to my knees on the deck. I tried to reach for him, but he was drifting away from me.
Sanjaya grinned. “Oo, red water!” He jumped in and began to swim in the bloody water.
The site of it made me throw up into the pool.
Sligh smiled. “Oo, red Kool-Aid and food chunks!” He cupped his hands in the pool water, and then began to suck down what he brought up with them.
I threw up even more at the sight.
Everyone began laughing.
Soon, Jordin, Haley, Gina, LaKisha, Melinda, and Phil began holding hands and dancing in a circle around the pool. They began to sing. “Blake is dead, Blake is dead, Blake is dead, Blake is dead...”
“No!” I screamed.
Sligh had jumped into the pool now, and was eating all the bloody throw up water he could.
Sanjaya was swimming around Blake, his head held back as he shot the disgusting water out of his mouth like a fountain.
I threw up again, and began to cry at the same time. “Blake, no! Please! You can’t be dead. Blake, don’t die. Please! Blake!”
B∞C
I ran back into the bedroom as the sound of Chris crying out my name. Did he just say, “Blake don’t die”? I ran over to his side, and gently shook him awake, startled to see him crying.
He slowly opened his eyes, and the tears stopped. He sniffed. “Thank God you’re alive!” He pulled me in for a kiss.
I moaned, doing my best to ignore the bitter taste of throw up from his mouth. I broke the kiss. “Of course I’m alive, baby. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Did you cheat on me with Jordin? Are you really tired of being with a man? Do you love women too much to be with me?”
“What? Chris, where is all this coming from?” I asked. I knew he must have had one whacked out dream.
“I had this horrible dream. You told me that I was lucky you ever loved me when you did, because you love women. You said that you would shout it out, and then you did. You were cheating with Jordin all this time. I caught you making out with her on a deck chair in the pool house.”
I smirked, and gently stroked Chris’ hair. “Baby, I don’t even have a pool house.”
“Then we went up to the pool and you French kissed all the girls except for LaKisha. You were going to kiss her, but she hit you over the head with a deck chair and killed you! You fell into the pool, and were bleeding all over. Sanjaya wanted to swim in your blood, and did, which made me throw up. Then Sligh wanted to eat the bloody, chunky water and did. It made me throw up again. Then the others laughed. They held hands and danced around the pool, chanting about you being dead! Sligh got into the pool to eat the water, and Sanjaya was swimming around you and spitting the water around you like a fountain! I was heartbroken!”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “I can so see him doing that!”
“It’s not funny, Blake! I was really scared! You didn’t love me anymore, and then you died. I thought I’d never be with you again.”
I lost the urge to laugh when I saw that he was crying again. I instantly felt bad, and got into bed with him. I took him into my arms, and kissed the top of his head. “Baby, you’re never going to lose me. I don’t want a woman. I want you. I want you because I love you and only you, and that is never going to change. You just had a bad dream. That’s all.” I kissed the top of his head again. “And I can assure you, I never cheated on you—especially not with Jordin.”
He smiled, looking into my eyes. “Really?”
I crossed my heart with my left index finger. “Cross my heart.”
He grinned. “Thank you for not saying ‘and hope to die’.”
I laughed. “I’m not going to die anytime soon. I still have many years of loving you left.” I winked at him.
He looked down at the floor. “Well, at least I still managed to puke in the bucket even when I was asleep.”
“You didn’t before I put the bucket there. I had to clean the floor.”
“I’m sorry.” He snuggled against my neck.
I shook my head. “Don’t be. I’m your boyfriend. It’s my job to take care of you.”
“I love you.”
I nuzzled his cheek with my own. “And I love you. I always will.”
“Do you mind if I sleep again?”
I smiled. “Go ahead. I called the doctor, and he said you have the symptoms of food poisoning. You’re to drink lots of liquids and sleep a lot.”
“I think I can manage that,” he said with a weak smile.
“Just try not to dream any more whacked out dreams, all right?” I asked.
He laughed. “I’ll try.”
As he drifted off to sleep in my arms, I closed my eyes. I supposed a nap wasn’t such a bad idea.
B∞C
When I woke up, I still felt a little ill, but I did feel slightly better. At least I hadn’t had any more whacked out dreams. I looked over beside me to where Blake was sleeping, and definitely not dead. I smiled, and sighed contently. I hoped I felt better the next day. I knew it must have been the sandwich they served for lunch on the plane that made me sick. I thought that meat had tasted kind of off. I had just been so hungry that I ate it anyway. Well I definitely would learn from my mistake and not do that again.
Just then, Blake’s eyes fluttered open, and he smiled up at me. “Feeling better?”
I nodded. “A little.”
“Do you want some dinner?”
I felt my stomach churn a little. “Maybe not that much better.”
He laughed. “All right. How about we just relax and watch some TV then?”
I nodded, and snuggled back into his arms. “That sounds perfect. I want to brush my teeth first though. I'm sure you don’t like kissing my barf mouth.”
He laughed. “I wasn’t going to say anything, but I do much prefer you to have a clean mouth. Are you feeling up to it?”
I nodded, and then got out of bed.
“While you’re doing that, I’m gonna go grab some left over pizza from the fridge,” he said, heading towards the bedroom door.
“Just please eat it down there,” I said.
He smirked. “Of course.”
Ten minutes later, we were in bed together again. This time, Blake was just wearing some boxers.
I rested my head on his chest as he watched America’s Funniest Home Videos
. “I’m sorry I ruined our day.”
“What? You didn’t ruin it. It’s not your fault you got sick. Don’t worry. I think lying in bed with you in nothing but our underwear calls for a pretty good time.” He grinned at me.
I laughed. “Yeah, I guess it does,” I agreed.
I snuggled closer in his arms, and he held me tightly and kissed the top of my head.
Maybe he was right. Now that I look back on it, the day hadn’t been wasted at all. Except for that freaky dream...
