"Ok, remember once we get in there you have to be quiet," Kelly whispered as she climbed on the railing of the balcony.
"What are you doing?" Carrie asked, her eyes wide.
"My window's on the side," Kelly explained, noting the look of fear on the other girl's face. "Don't worry there's a slight edge the whole way there. I do this all the time. If you want, I can just do it, then come open the front door for you?"
"That'd probably make too much noise, huh?"
Kelly shrugged apologetically.
"Alright. But if I die, you so better sing at my funeral," Carrie frowned, following her onto the railing.
"We're only one floor up," Kelly reminded. "The worse that could happen is like what? A bruise? Maybe like a broken wrist if you fall at exactly the right angle."
"Not helping," Carrie replied, nervously taking her first step onto the small edging that was really only a decorative trim on the building.
"Come on," Kelly smiled, a few steps ahead of her. "You got it."
The Texan made it to her window that still had a slight crack in it, making it easier for her to open while balancing on the tiny edge. She slipped inside, then immediately stuck her head out, reaching for Carrie's hand.
"There you go," she nodded, guiding Carrie to the window as she felt her take her hand tightly. "Now just lift your knee up on the window sill, and I'll pull you in, ok?"
Carrie shook her head.
"Carrie, come on. It's not even dangerous at all, ok? My friends and I have done this a million times, and nobody's ever gotten hurt."
"Kelly, I seriously have no balance," Carrie said, still shaking her head fearfully.
Kelly frowned, "Ok, um, can you turn around, maybe?"
Carrie looked down to where the window sill was right at her waist, her and Kelly's hands were still linked securely, "Ok."
Kelly watched as Carrie slowly inched her way around until she was facing away from her.
"Now what?"
"Now, just push yourself up," Kelly instructed. "Like you were jumping onto a counter or something. I've got you, I swear."
Carrie took a deep breath as she used her arms to push herself up on the window's edge. She immediately felt one of Kelly's arms around her back and the other under her legs as the Texan lifted her into the room. Carrie smiled as she placed her arms around Kelly's neck.
"Told you," Kelly smiled at her, feeling her legs starting to buckle under the extra weight. She dropped the other girl onto her bed carefully before going back to close the window. "I didn't know you were scared of heights," she commented, turning back to her.
"Not heights. Just falling," Carrie replied.
Kelly laughed softly, kicking off her shoes as Carrie did the same, "Sorry about the bed. We have a sleeping bag, but it's in my parents room, so..."
"It's fine," Carrie smiled. "As long as you don't like kick in your sleep or anything, do you? Cause I don't want to be like flying across the room or something."
"No, you're good," she giggled.
"Good," Carrie nodded as Kelly climbed over her on the twin bed, facing the opposite direction of her as she curled up under the sheets.
"You comfortable?" Kelly asked, feeling Carrie's back against hers.
"Yea, thanks for this."
"Anytime," she yawned.

Carrie woke up in an empty bed. She looked around, wondering how the hell the Texan had gotten up without waking her.
"You're a heavy sleeper," the strong drawl explained, practically reading her mind.
Carrie looked up to find Kelly walking into the room, towel drying her hair, "Hey."
"You slept ok?" Kelly asked, as Carrie scooted over, giving her room to sit next to her.
"Yea," she nodded, yawning. "What time is it?"
"Eleven," Kelly replied, tossing the towel aside. "You want to call your parents or something, let them know you're still alive?"
Carrie shrugged the suggestion off, "Nah, they're trying this new trust thing where they treat me as an adult."
"So, they won't be worried?"
"No, they will."
"Strange," Kelly frowned, but she quickly corrected herself, their last fight still fresh. "I mean, you're parents aren't strange. I mean, I don't even know them--"
Carrie patted her knee reassuringly, "You're fine. I know what you meant."
"So, you want some breakfast or something?"
"Your parents are here?"
"Don't worry about it. I bring home strays all the time, remember?" Kelly smiled, standing.
"No job to rush off to?" Carrie asked, curiously.
"Not today. You feel special? Cause you should. Most people that sleep with me wake up to find me gone."
Carrie raised an eyebrow as she got out of bed, straightening her clothes.
"Friends," Kelly smirked, pushing her playfully. "Get your mind out of the gutter."
"You so meant for me to take it that way," Carrie laughed, pushing her back as they walked out of her room, headed towards the kitchen.

"So, sorry we didn't have anything else," Kelly smiled apologetically as she placed two bowls of cereal on the table. "None of us have really had time to go to the store lately."
"It's fine," Carrie assured her.
"Can you pass the milk?"
Carrie reached back, able to grab the milk that Kelly had put on the counter in the kitchen from where she was seated in the dining room. She moved her arm forward, suddenly finding the milk very light.
"Sorry," Jeanne apologized. "Milk is only for those who don't get detention."
Kelly's eyes got wide, "How'd you find out?"
"I'm a teacher. We talk."
"It's a conspiracy," Kelly commented to Carrie.
"Young lady this is not a joking matter," Jeanne scolded.
"Mom, I have company," she pointed out.
"Well, maybe you should've thought about that before you told off your teacher."
Kelly sighed, slumping in her chair.
"Kelly Brianne," her mom frowned.
"I didn't mean to," Kelly replied. "I was just upset, and kinda blew up on her."
"You've gotta stop this Kelly."
"I know," her eyes fell.
Carrie shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
"What had you so upset?"
"Nothing."
"Kelly..."
"It was nothing," Kelly assured her.
Jeanne sighed, "Well, fine then. Just don't let me hear about something like this happening again, got it?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Good," she nodded walking away.
"Sorry," Kelly looked up at Carrie.
"It's ok," Carrie offered her a smile. "It's kinda my fault anyway."
