The listening party was more like a viewing party for new music videos that Kacy and Tori had put out and wanted to share with everyone. Kacy in particular was excited to share her video as she had directed it herself. Madalina told Captain that Tori and Kacy had already decided to have the event outside rather than use the indoor theater or banquet hall.
“I suppose it will be a nice night out,” she said.
Captain didn’t want to argue against having the event outside if that was what Tori and Kacy wanted, but that did mean he would have to leave early to help Gordon with planning. Gordon is a guy who had been working for Captain since the last resort was open. He ran errands and helped plan events and whatnot. So Captain went to help while Madalina stayed in the residence, saying she would wake Charlotte up in time for the event. They had Charlotte take a nap so she wouldn’t be tired.
About an hour before the event was scheduled to begin, Captain went to the storage room to help Tori, Kacy, Taylor, and Gordon bring up some folding chairs, since the tables didn’t provide enough seating for everyone.
“Thanks for helping,” Tori said to Taylor.
“You’re welcome.”
“Nice shirt, too,” Gordon added.
Taylor wore one of those T-shirts with an album cover on it, this one bearing the cover of Toxicity by System of a Down.
“Thanks,” she said. “You like them?”
“I’m not a huge fan, but they’re alright. They’re like Rage Against The Machine meets Frank Zappa ...which sounds a lot more awesome than I intended."
Everyone chuckled except for Captain.
“That’s a good one,” said Taylor. “I’m gonna use that.”
One table at the event was already designated for Captain, Madalina, Tori, Kacy, and Charlotte. Captain still needed to figure out the seating arrangement for everyone else. You may think a task like this would require more than an hour to figure out, and you would be right.
When all the chairs were set up, Captain turned to Gordon and asked “Alright, who do we worry about first?”
“What do you mean?” Gordon wondered aloud. “We’re gonna have the women sitting in pairs, aren’t we?”
“Yeah, but we normally don’t have these events outside.”
Gordon seemed confused. He explained that if, for example, Meg Turney and Jessica Nigri wanted to sit together, it wouldn’t matter where they were seated as long as they were sitting together.
“It actually does matter. In the banquet hall or theater, we don’t have to worry about women having their view blocked by someone sitting directly in front of them. But the rows of seats here aren’t spread out like in the banquet hall and the seats don’t go higher up the further back they are like in the theater. Here, you would have a 5’2” Meg sitting next to a 5’7” Jessica. We can’t let Meg have her view blocked or let Jessica block the view of whoever sits behind her.”
“Uh, sir?”
Tori got Captain’s attention; Kacy stood right behind Tori. Captain’s tone of voice immediately changed from anxious to warmly receptive.
“Yes, how I can help you?”
“We don’t need to worry about a seating arrangement. We think the women can work things out by themselves.”
“You think so?”
Tori and Kacy nodded. Captain gave Gordon a brief glance, then looked back at Tori and Kacy. Humbly, he said to them, “Very well. It’s your event.”
That’s the thing about Captain. No matter how he behaves around other people, he has always been a gentleman to the women in his resort. Tori and Kacy thanked him and went to start getting their videos ready.
