'Cause with you, I'd withstand,
All of hell to hold your hand.
I'd give it all; I'd give for us
Give anything, but I won't give up."

Carrie sat on the bed, watching as Kelly laced her shoes, "How are you feeling?"
"Anxious," Kelly nodded.
"Do you think she's going to show up?"
"I honestly don't have a clue."
"What if she doesn't?"
"Then that's that, then," she frowned.
"What about the band? Y'all are all so close...they're going to ask questions."
Kelly turned to her worriedly.
"It's your call," Carrie replied. "But if it comes down to it, and you feel like you need to tell them, then I'm alright with that."
"You are?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded. "Might as well get it out now in case any of them are as immature as Jill is. It'll give you enough time to find replacements."
Kelly's stomach turned.
"Sorry," Carrie winced. She reached out, pulling the Texan on to her lap. "That was a little too blunt, huh?"
"It's ok. Blunt's good."
Carrie kissed her cheek, "If it helps, I don't think it's going to be like that. The guys really care about you."
"I thought Jill really cared about me."
"Yea, but the guys have known you longer. They've also been in the business longer--they've seen a lot more."
Kelly looked at her confusedly.
"They'll be more open-minded," Carrie explained.
"I hope so. I don't think I could deal with losing any of them. They're all like brothers, you know?"
"I know," Carrie rubbed her back. "And hey, maybe you won't even have to worry about telling them. Maybe Jill will show up."
Kelly rested her head against the country singer's shoulder, "Maybe I should tell them anyway."
"It's up to you. If you feel like you need to tell them, then you should."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive," Carrie nodded.

Kelly sat on the edge of the short stage, her feet dangling above the floor as she watched as one after another the members of her band walked into the sound stage. She held her breath as Kate walked through the door, not meeting her eye. The tall blonde walked straight to her, staring at the floor the entire time. "How's it looking?" she asked softly.
Kate shook her head.
Kelly sighed, wrapping an arm around her neck, pulling her into a hug, "Let's give her till the end of practice, ok?"
Kate nodded, sniffing back tears as Kelly left a reassuring kiss on her cheek.
"Ok, let's start with rehearsals. Music's always a good distraction," Kelly offered a smile as she stood. "Ok, guys, let's get this show on the road."
+++++++++++
"Anything else?" Kelly looked at her musical director, hopefully.
"Nope, we're done," Jason smiled.
Kelly turned to Kate who seemed a lot paler than normal. "Ok, then...that's it, everybody. Y'all are free to go."
"So," Einar turned to Kate as he took off his bass. "Where's the sidekick? She sick or something?"
"Um, actually," Kelly cut in when it looked as if Kate were about to be sick. "Before y'all go, I wanna have a talk with everyone...well, just the band," she turned to the members of the sound crew. "Y'all are free to go."
Kelly watched as one by one the sound technicians left, leaving her alone with her band who had all sat before her. "Kate, if you need to get some air..." she offered, watching as the taller blonde sat down shakily.
"I'm fine," she assured.
"Ok..." Kelly rubbed the back of her neck, unsure of how to begin. "So, I am really, really sorry to have to say this, but it seems as if we will be having a bit of a change in our line up. Unfortunately, Jill does not feel that it is in her best interests to work with us anymore."
"What?" Jason asked, confused. "Why? What happened?"
"This has nothing to do with Kate," Kelly quickly explained when all the members of the band turned to the back up singer for answers. "This is about me. Jill has a problem with the way I choose to spend my spare time, and she feels like because of that she can't sing backup for me anymore."
"Why would she have a problem with what you do in your spare time?" Aben asked. "Y'all have been buddy-buddy since you guys met. I don't get it."
"And so what if she did?" Cory cut in. "It's your spare time, KC...you're entitled to do with it as you please."
"I hope y'all still feel that way in a minute," she frowned. "Um, the thing is, I'm in a relationship with someone...I've been with them for a few months now, actually. That's what Jill has a problem with."
"Who is it?" Jason questioned.
Kelly swallowed hard, "Carrie Underwood."
A sudden silence fell over the band.
"Yea, so, now that we're done with that, I'm gonna be going," Kelly started to back away quickly.
"KC, wait," Corry stopped her. "You're...I mean...like for real?"
"For real," Kelly nodded. "And you guys know I love you all so much, so I hope y'all realize how much she means to me when I say that everything I said to Jill goes for y'all too. If you have a problem with who I'm dating, I do not want to hear a single utterance against it. Not even one ill look, especially when Carrie's around...and she's going to be around. And if y'all don't think you can handle that, then y'all are welcome to quit just like Jill did."
The band sat in silence once more, looking at her in a mixture of shock and surprise.
Kelly nodded again. "Ok then. We have rehearsals again tomorrow. I really, really hope that all of y'all will be here," she gave a nervous smile before turning and walking out of the sound stage. She froze when she walked outside to find Carrie leaning against her car, waiting for her.
"I figured it would be nice to have a friendly face," Carrie shrugged.
Kelly smiled as she walked to her, Carrie's arms immediately pulling her into a hug.
"How'd it go?" Carrie kissed her temple.
Kelly buried her face in the country singer's neck.
"Baby, I'm sorry," Carrie rubbed her back, feeling her tears against her skin. "I take it Jill didn't show?
Kelly shook her head.
"And did you tell the band? How'd that go?"
"I have no clue," Kelly admitted, sniffing. "We'll have to find out tomorrow."
"I'm so sorry," Carrie pulled back to look at her.
"It's not your fault," Kelly kissed her gently. "I'm so glad you're here."
Carrie reached up, wiping the tears from her cheeks, "Come on, I'll take you out for a nice lunch. How's that sound?"
"Good," Kelly nodded, kissing her again before pulling away, smiling softly as Carrie opened the car door for her.

"If it looks like we were scared to death,
Like a couple of kids
Just trying to save each other,
You should've seen it in color."

"Talk to me Cowgirl," Ashley placed a mug of hot chocolate in front of the singer as she sat across from her.
"About what?" Carrie asked, her cheek resting in her hand. She could hear the water from the shower down the hall shut off.
"What's on your mind. How things are going in your life. Anything."
"Things are going...well...they're definitely going," she sighed, shaking her head. "Things are a mess."
"How so?"
"It's just all over the place. We have that thing with Alex's mom going on right now which is just insane, and then the stuff with Jill is just kinda draining and..."
"And?"
"And everytime I'm with Kelly, I still feel as if I'm flying high," Carrie smiled softly.
"I see what you mean about it being all over the place," Ashley nodded.
"It's a rollercoaster...that's what Kelly would call it."
"She says everything's a roller coaster," Ashley laughed lightly.
"Yea," Carrie giggled.
"So, it's all over the place, but you're hanging in there, right?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded. "There's nowhere's else I'd rather be, actually."
"Ugh," Ashley rolled her eyes, standing. "I hate it when y'all are corny."
"You're just jealous," Carrie teased, smiling as Ashley turned to fix herself a cup of coffee.
"Of what?" Ashley laughed, turning back around. "Aw, come on, now," she groaned at the sight of Kelly sitting in Carrie's lap, wearing only a towel as the two singers kissed. "Really? This early in the morning? I miss grumpy Kelly."
Kelly broke the kiss turning to her best friend with a grin, "Kiss my ass."
"Sorry. Cowgirl might get jealous."
Kelly laughed, wrapping her arms around Carrie's neck.
"You know, I think we need to find Ashley a guy," Carrie commented. "She seems to have a lot of pent up anger that could use some...working out."
Ashley narrowed her eyes, "Her being on your lap won't stop me from kicking your ass."
Kelly giggled, "I love y'all."
Ashley and Carrie turned to her in confusion.
Kelly just shrugged, kissing Carrie's cheek before laying her head on her shoulder.
"I threaten to kick her ass, and you love me?" Ashley questioned.
"The fact that you threatened her, means you're here," Kelly pointed out.
Ashley shook her head, laughing softly.
"Admit it," Carrie smiled, rubbing Kelly's back. "You don't miss grumpy Kelly."
Ashley rolled her eyes, turning back to her coffee, starting to boil some water for Kelly's tea, "Yea, yea, whatever..."
Kelly jumped slightly at the sound of the alarm on her phone going off. Carrie reached forward, picking it up off the counter for her, showing it to her. "Damn it...Ash, can you put that in a to-go mug for me?" Kelly sighed. "I have to leave for rehearsals in like ten minutes."
"Sure," Ashley nodded.
Carrie kissed Kelly softly at the nerves in her eyes, "Hey..."
Kelly looked at her.
"I'm coming with you."
"No, Care, you don't have to..."
"I'm coming. I pushed my meeting back till later today. I wanna be there for you."
Kelly smiled, kissing her softly, "Thank you."
"If you've got to leave in ten minutes, you shouldn't be sitting there kissing her," Ashley noted over her shoulder.
Kelly laughed, standing up, "Fine. I'm going get dressed...hey, Ashley..."
"Yes, I'm coming to rehearsals," Ashley turned to her with a smile. "Someone's gotta baby sit the cowgirl, right?"
"Hey--" Carrie protested.
Kelly smiled at her best friend, "Thanks."
Ashley waved her off, turning back to finish their drinks.
"If you don't like me then why did you make me hot chocolate?" Carrie asked with a smirk after Kelly had walked out of the room.
"Who's to say I didn't poison it?"
Carrie scrunched her eyebrows, sniffing the drink.
Ashley laughed to herself.
"You wouldn't poison me," Carrie put the drink down, sitting up straight.
"No?" Ashley turned to her, leaning back against the counter. "Why not?"
"Because that would hurt Kelly."
"Yea...you're lucky," Ashley warned playfully.
"Whatever. You so love me."
"So, it's love now, is it?"
"Yea, you may not like me, but you definitely love me."
Ashley giggled, "I think you've been hanging around Kelly too long...you're becoming a dork just like her."
"You love me, admit it."
"No," she shook her head. "Now I'm going change real quick. Make sure the water doesn't boil over?"
"Only if you admit you love me."
"Cowgirl..." Ashley warned.
"I'll take that as a yes."
"It's way too early for this shit," Ashley mumbled under her breath as she walked out the kitchen before pausing. She looked back, growing serious for a moment, "Thanks for moving your schedule around today. I think it means a lot to her that you're coming to rehearsals."
Carrie smiled, "I'd do anything for her, you know that."
"Yea," Ashley nodded, turning back.
"Ha! You do love me!" Carrie called after her, laughing as Ashley gave her the finger over her shoulder.
"What are you fussing about?" Kelly asked as she walked into the kitchen, tugging her shirt over her head.
"Nothing," Carrie shrugged, reaching out for her and pulling her back onto her lap. "I think Ashley's growing soft in her old age."
"Oh really?" Kelly giggled.
"Yea, she totally loves me."
"Can't say I blame her," Kelly kissed her softly. "You do happen to be pretty great."
"Yea, I totally blame this little short Texan that I know. She totally just makes me want to be better."
Kelly kissed her again, "You were great before I ever met you."
Carrie smiled softly, reaching up to cradle her face with one hand, "Today's gonna be a good day."
"You think?"
Carrie nodded, stroking her cheek with her thumb.
"I really hope so," Kelly let herself admit.
"I'll make sure of it," Carrie promised, kissing her forehead.

"You've got to give a little, take a little,
And let your poor heart break a little,
That's the story of, that's the glory of love."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carrie sat right behind Kelly who sat on the edge of the stage, her arms securely around the shorter girl's stomach, laughing as Ashley grumbled about it being too hot in the building. She kissed the Texan's shoulder reassuringly as Kelly slid their hands together while they waited for the band to show up.
Kelly looked up at the sound of the doors opening.
Kate forced a smile as she walked in.
"Hey," Carrie greeted as the taller blonde walked to them.
"Hey," she replied, pushing her sunglasses back so that they were resting on top of her head.
Kelly smiled sadly at the dark circles under her bloodshot eyes, "How are you doing?"
"Um..." she laughed nervously. "I'm about to be homeless."
"What?"
"Jill's moving back to L.A. and there's no way I can pay for that house on my own," Kate shook her head, sniffing back more tears.
"Kate..." Kelly reached out, pulling her closer in a sort of hug, kissing the top of her head. "You can move in with us."
"No, I don't want to put you guys out," she protested.
"Then let me help you pay for the house," Kelly offered.
"You know, I can't let you do that."
"Don't think of it as her giving you money," Carrie reached out, tucking a curl behind the backupsinger's ear. "Think of it as like a loan. You can pay her back whenever you can."
"I'll still be paying you back when I'm ninety," Kate pointed out.
"Please?" Kelly urged. "Just let me help you. It's the least I can do."
Kate frowned.
"At least think about it?"
"Alright," she nodded.
"Good," Kelly smiled softly as Carrie kissed her shoulder again.
Kate laughed softly, "On a lighter note, I, uh, got asked out yesterday after rehearsals when I stopped to get coffee."
"Oh yea? Is he cute?"
"He's actually kinda hot," Kate nodded.
"Good for you," Carrie smiled. "Did you say yes?"
"I did. I figured I could use a little fun this weekend."
"You totally deserve it," Kelly agreed.
"Oh, um...there's a couple guys outside," Kate looked at Carrie. "They should be in here any minute."
"Thanks," Carrie nodded, pulling away from the original Idol.
"Where are you going?" Kelly looked up at her, confused as she stood.
"I'm not leaving you, don't worry," Carrie bent down, cradling her cheek. "I'm just going off to the side to give you guys some space. I'll be hanging out with Ashley."
"But you're not leaving?"
"I'm not leaving," Carrie promised, kissing her forehead before standing again. She smiled as Kate gave her a hand down from the stage. "Thanks."
Kate nodded, slipping her sunglasses back on.
"Come on Cowgirl," Ashley waved Carrie over from where she sat against the wall of the sound stage.
"Miss me?" Carrie asked, sitting beside her.
Ashley sighed, rolling her eyes.
"How do you think this is gonna go?" she asked, seriously.
"I have faith in the guys," Ashley nodded.
"Yea...Kelly does too, which is why I pray this goes well," Carrie turned as the door opened once more.
