"It's funny how life turns out,
The odds of faith in the face of doubt."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ashley patted Carrie's leg when the country singer made a move to stand, "She's ok."
"She's crying," Carrie pointed out, turning to her. "Happy tears?"
"Happy tears," Ashley nodded.
"But it's just Jason," Carrie motioned to the music director as Kelly leaned forward, kissing the top of his bald head. "There's still like four more to go."
"Yes, but Jason's been with her the longest," Ashley reminded. "He's been here since the beginning. I don't think she'd know what to do without him."
Carrie's head turned as the door opened again. She watched cautiously as Aben walked towards her girlfriend, letting out a heavy sigh of relief at the smile forming on her face as she talked to her guitarist.
"Hang in there," Ashley commented. "Just three more."
"God, I feel like I'm gonna throw up. I can't even imagine how Kelly feels," Carrie leaned back against the wall. She offered a smile when Kelly, Jason, and Aben all turned her way as they talked amongst themselves. Aben waved.
Ashley laughed softly.
"I think you're relaxing too soon."
"I think you're too uptight," Ashley countered.
"Nobody else has come in."
"Give them time. There's still a good fifteen minutes until practice starts."
"Deaner and Einar...they're new right?" Carrie questioned. "I mean, they haven't been around as long as everybody else. They're aren't as attatched--" she stopped when Ashley pushed her face so that she was looking at the door to see both the drummer and the bassist walking through with reassuring smiles for the short singer as they walked to the stage. "Thank goodness. Who's left? Cory? He's gonna be here, right? I mean, I know her. I've seen her perform. She needs him on stage with her."
"Cowgirl, breathe...you're getting me anxious now, and I don't do anxious, like ever. There's still over ten minutes left, and Cory is usually one of the last to arrive."
"Really?"
"Actually, no, I have no clue. I was just hoping to keep you from freaking out."
Carrie sighed. She watched Kelly carefully. She was still sitting on the edge of the stage, wearing a huge grin as her band formed a semicircle in front of her. Her eyes, however, kept glancing up at the doors. Carrie could recognize the fear growing them all the way from where she sat as the minutes ticked by. "I should go to her."
"Let her be," Ashley held her down once more. "She'll let you know when she needs you."
"No, she won't."
"She needs to be with her band for this."
"But this is my fault," Carrie replied, her voice raising.
Ashley looked at her pointedly, stealing a glance at the band who didn't seem to have heard, "You know Kelly would never agree with you saying stuff like that, so quit it. I know she doesn't take that self-pity crap, and I'm not going to either."
"It's not self-pity; it's the truth," Carrie could feel her eyes stinging as she looked back at the door that still hadn't opened.
"Listen to me. Cowgirl, listen," Ashley got her attention. "If Cory doesn't show, she is really going to need you. You can't be going down this road of 'Oh, this is all my fault. I'm such a horrible person, whatever'. She doesn't need that. What she needs is you, being strong, letting her know that it's all going to work out. She's going to want to blame herself, too. Don't let her, got it? And don't take that as an opportunity to go down the pity road again. She doesn't need to be looking after you, and trying to make you feel better when it's her band that's falling apart, alright?"
Carrie nodded, sniffing.
Ashley gave a small smile, patting the country singer's cheek, "I didn't mean to be harsh, but you know how much these guys mean to her. This is her family. She needs you to be the strong one right now, even if she won't admit that, ok?"
"Ok," Carrie agreed.
"Good," Ashley gave her shoulder a squeeze.
Carrie turned back to the door, quickly, at the sound of it re-opening. She held her breath, watching as the final guitarist walked towards the stage. She couldn't see his smile as he got close, nor did she have a chance to even try to read his lips due to the rest of the band blocking the view, but she beamed as Kelly let out a soft squeal before jumping off the stage and throwing her arms around the final memeber of her band. "Thank God..."
Ashley let out the breath she had been holding.
"I definitely know why Kelly loves these guys so much, now," Carrie nodded. "They're like my favorite people ever."
"What I told you?" Ashley smiled as Kelly pointed towards Carrie, motioning her over. "She'd let you know when she needs you."
Carrie laughed softly as she stood, surprised at how wobbly her legs were at first. She made her way over to the other Idol, grinning as she was pulled into a tight hug.
"It's ok," Kelly whispered in her ear.
"I know," Carrie rubbed her back, reaching up to kiss her forehead lightly as they broke apart. She turned to the band, "Hey guys...listen--"
"Please," Jason cut in with a smile. "Kelly already thanked us plenty. Honestly, you shouldn't even have to be thanking us at all. I think I speak for all of us when I say there's nobody in the industry that we'd rather play with, then our girl, right here."
Carrie wrapped a proud arm around her girlfriend, raising a hand to brush the tears off her cheeks as the rest of the band agreed.
"Ok, so," Kelly sniffed. "Y'all have all met her before. We're all here. Enough of this love fest. We've got work to do people, so let's get to rehearsing."
"Woo!" Deaner cheered, pushing Cory playfully as the guys made their way up the stage where Kate was already situated.
Kelly smiled as she turned to Carrie, "Thanks so much for being here."
"I just sat there," Carrie pointed out.
"When are you gonna get it?" Kelly shook her head, amused. "Just having you here...having your support...that's all I could ask for."
Carrie smiled, pulling her into another hug, bringing her lips to her ear, "We are so having crazy hot sex tonight."
"You best believe it," Kelly grinned.
"And she'll never change,
Don't know how to hide
Her stubborn will or her fightin' side,
But you treat her right,
And she'll love you like no one else."
Kelly giggled at the feeling of Carrie's hot breath against her neck as her heart raced in her chest.
"Don't ever...let anyone tell you...that you're not...a woman of your word," Carrie breathed heavily.
Kelly smiled, pulling the country singer up so she could see her face. She pressed their lips together, holding Carrie's face in her hands.
"Mmm..." Carrie pulled back with a grin. "Be careful...you start kissing me like that, and I'll think you want another round."
"Three isn't enough for you?"
"Is it enough for you?"
Kelly smirked, kissing her again.
Carrie took her bottom lip in her teeth, tugging, giggling at the sound of Kelly's stomach growling.
"Don't laugh. You know sex makes you hungry, too."
"It does," Carrie agreed, studying her face, contemplating for a moment.
"Trying to decide whether to fuel up first, or just go for it?" Kelly's eyes danced.
"Yea," Carrie admitted, blushing slightly.
Kelly's stomach growled again.
Carrie kissed her lightly, "Food first. Come on. I'll see what I can fix up real quick."
Kelly nodded, taking the t-shirt and pajama bottoms Carrie tossed her way and quickly tugged them on. She smiled as Carrie leaned back over to her, kissing her once more before climbing off the bed.
"Dang girl," Kelly teased as Carrie sat down with two and a half peanut butter sandwhiches on her plate. "I've never seen someone so small, eat as much as you can."
"Yea, well, I've never met someone who could live on peanut butter everyday," she replied as Kelly bit into her own sandwhich.
"It's good," Kelly shrugged, her mouth full of peanut butter.
Carrie laughed.
"Shh..." Kelly giggled. "You're gonna wake somebody up."
"He's sound asleep," Carrie assured. "I went check on him."
"Don't know how," Kelly admitted. "You can be a screamer."
"I blame that all on your tongue."
Kelly beamed.
"And...looks like you were right," Carrie turned at the sound of four small paws tapping against the tile floor. "Come here, baby."
Ace walked over to her, stretching slowly before reaching up for her, putting his paws on Carrie's leg.
Carrie smiled, picking up and placing him on her lap where he immediately curled up in content.
"Spoiled," Kelly muttered.
"Kell..." Carrie laughed. "You know you're still my favorite."
Ace's head turned up to her.
"Sorry buddy," Kelly smiled. "How's it feel to be replaced?"
"Kell..." she fussed, covering Ace's ears.
"What? That dog's so jealous when I'm over here. You'd think he'd be grateful for me since I'm the one that got you to let him be nekked all the time, but no...ingrate."
Carrie giggled, "I'm sure he's very grateful."
"Either way, he's gonna have to get used to it," Kelly shrugged. "Because I am loving your house."
"Yea?"
"Yea, we can be as loud as we want and not have to worry about Ash, or Jay, or anybody else hearing. Why didn't we think of this before?"
"Because we usually just ended up at your house for some reason, and once we get started, we don't really think about who can hear?"
"True," Kelly nodded. "But this...this is nice. You know...just me and you. I really like it."
"Yea?"
"Yea," she smiled softly.
"I like it too," Carrie nodded.
"And I like you."
"I like you too," Carrie smiled as Kelly leaned to her, kissing her softly. She laughed at the feeling of Ace sitting up in her lap, licking just under her chin.
"See..." Kelly giggled, pulling away. "He's totally jealous."
"That's ok, though," Carrie wrapped her arms around the small dog. "He'll always be the number one man in my life. How's that?"
Ace started licking her all over her face.
Kelly smiled, "Well, at least he has good taste in women."
Carrie laughed, putting Ace back on the floor, "Sorry, buddy, I gotta finish eating."
"Yes, because Kelly is refueled, and ready to go," she looked at her meaningfully.
Carrie licked her lips, "You know...I've eaten enough..."
"Yea?" Kelly raised an eyebrow.
Carrie nodded, standing and offering Kelly a hand up.
Kelly stood, stepping to her. She smiled, kissing her sweetly, "You taste like peanut butter."
"You too," Carrie replied, kissing her a little more firmly.
Kelly wrapped an arm around her, pulling her closer, "Hey...you wouldn't happen to have any strawberries, would you?"
Carrie nodded as Kelly's other hand slid under her shirt.
"Cause you know how much I love strawberries..." Kelly whispered, her voice suddenly rather gravelly.
Carrie swallowed hard as Kelly looked her straight in the eyes.
"What about whip cream?" she asked curiously.
"Fridge," Carrie breathed, pushing into her, kissing her heatedly. "In the fridge..."
Kelly felt herself being walked backwards until she was pressed against something that she quickly identified as the refrigerator as Carrie kissed her fervently. She wrapped both arms around the taller girl as she slid down against the refrigerator, taking her to the floor with her, her lips moving to the blonde's neck, her hands already ridding her of her shirt.
