"I've seen you standing there stunned in the spotlight,
I've seen the sweat streak the pain on your face,
Cause you're caught like a clown in a circle of strangers,
Who do you screw to get out of this place."

Kelly bounced excitedly as she walked into the game room of the hospital to find it fully decorated for Luke's going away party. She walked over to Carrie who was tying heluim balloons to a chair and rested her chin on her shoulder, "Hey."
"Hey," Carrie leaned back into her. "How was the studio?"
"It was good," she nodded, tilting her head down and kissing her shoulder.
"Careful..."
Kelly laughed softly, "Well turn around and give me a hug...hug's are totally innocent."
Carrie smiled as she turned around, wrapping her arms around the shorter girl.
Kelly sighed in content as they swayed gently from side to side.
"So, I love the album."
"Oh yea?"
"Yea, it's really good."
"This next one's gonna be even better."
"What was the cutoff...if you don't mind me asking."
"Like for where I stopped one album and started the next?"
"Yea."
"You," she replied simply.
"Me?"
"Yea, when you and I started hanging out."
"Why then?"
"Time wise, it worked out. I needed to get the album finished and put out. I also like to keep my album's somewhat cohesive, so I wanted all the songs that I wrote about..." her voice trailed off nervously
"Me?" Carrie offered.
Kelly nodded, blushing slightly, "I wanted all the ones about you on one album."
"So after your finished that album, you're just gonna toss me to the side?" Carrie joked.
"No," she laughed softly. "You know what I mean...I like my albums to tell stories, and I wanted this one to be about the beginning of us."
"Yea, so an entire album about me...this is gonna do wonders for my ego."
"It's not all about you...there's some other stuff going on too..."
"That's more important than me? Doubt it," Carrie laughed.
Kelly wrapped her arms tighter around her, nuzzling her neck.
"Alex..." Carrie noted softly.
She nodded.
"Yea, I remember how hard it was for you to get in the studio after she died...I'm glad that you're deciding to use those songs, though. I'm sure they're beautiful."
"I hope so...she deserves the best."
"Yea," Carrie agreed.
"And so do you which is why I've been working so hard on this one...I want it to be perfect for y'all."
"It's going to be, don't worry."
"It's just...I've put so much more into this one than I have with all my other ones, even the one that's about to be released...I just want people to hear it and feel something, you know?"
Carrie nodded.
"I almost want to sit on this one and release another one first."
"Why?"
"I don't want to give it to RCA. I don't want them to kill it before it even has a chance."
"You think they'd do that for your last album? Wouldn't they want to promote it with everything the have in order to convince you to renew their contract."
Kelly shook her head, "They know I've been working on it. They know I want to release it as soon as I can in order to get out of the contract. They're going to make sure I know just how big of a mistake I'm making by showing me how much I need them and their support."
Carrie growled softly.
Kelly laughed, "It's ok. Nothing they can do is going to make me change my mind on this. The album's going to be released one way or another."
"No, but they're gonna drag you through the mud to try and make sure that you don't have a career after them? That's so fu...messed up."
"You wanted to say something else," Kelly smiled.
"Yes...yes, I did," Carrie nodded.
"I just can't wait to be through with it all...to be through with them. It'll be one less thing to have to deal with."
Carrie held her tighter, frowning at the sudden tiredness in her voice, "Did something happen today?"
"I got a call when I was in the studio from the record company."
"About?"
"Them finding out that I've been in the studio for the past couple months, already working on my fifth album."
"What did they say?"
"Pretty much what I said before about them not supporting it."
"They didn't even give you any options?"
Kelly sighed.
"What are the options?"
"Release the album I'm working on, and have it tank or work with who they want me to, and they'll support it, and they may even consider renewing my contract," Kelly replied, her voice dripping with disdain.
"I hate them."
"Don't hate them."
"Kell, they--"
"Life's too short for hate...it's just not worth it."
"So you're thinking about making the album they want?"
"Yea," she admitted regretfully. "Not so that they'll renew my contract, obviously, but because I don't think I can handle watching this album go through what My December did...it just means way too much to me."
Carrie nodded, "You do have to play ball sometimes...it'll be so great though when they realize what a big mistake they made after your contract's up and you release this record and it blows up."
"That would be funny," she allowed with a giggle. "So...you don't think I'm being weak and letting them win by recording the album I want?"
"What? No, of course not. Baby, you're doing it for the music, because you believe so much in your album that you want it to get the respect it deserves. I know how important music is to you, and I know how hard it is going to be for you to do the album they want, and I view that as you making a major sacrifice for all the right reasons. If anything, I'm proud of you for having the strength to be able to go through this and deal with them. And I respect you so much in a music sense, because I really think you're doing what's best for this album. I've seen how hard you've been working on it and how much of yourself you've put into it, and I agree a hundred percent with your decision to not let RCA release it, especially knowing beforehand that they're not going to do it justice. And even if they were, after all they've put you through, they don't deserve to get that much of you...they don't."
Kelly sniffed back the tears that were forming in her eyes as she looked around the room, "So, uh, this place looks amazing, Care. Y'all did a great job."
"Thanks," she laughed lightly at her changing the subject, unable to deal with too many compliments at once.
"Where are Jason and Ashley and Kate, anyway?"
"The three stooges are taking a break."
"So they left you here to finish by yourself?" Kelly pulled back a little to be able to look at her.
"I wanted to make sure this place was perfect," she shrugged.
Kelly smiled softly, "You're the best, you know that?"
"Yea, well, it's easy with you," Carrie nodded as Kelly leaned back to her, resting her head on her shoulder. "So, are you bummed about Luke, leaving?"
"Yea..."
"Me too," Carrie admitted.
"But this is a party," Kelly reminded, wiping her eyes. "It's gonna be fun...lots of fun. There's plenty of time to be bummed after."
"You're right," Carrie agreed, turning and kissing her forehead.
"You think he's going to like it?"
"I think he'll love it," Carrie replied, surely. "How about we head on home and get cleaned up, ok?"
"Sounds good," Kelly slid their hands together as Carrie kissed her forehead once more before walking out of the game room together and out to the parking lot. Kelly smiled as Carrie held open the passenger door for her before walking around to the driver's side. She reached out as Carrie sat in her seat, taking Carrie's face in her hands and drawing her to her, kissing her sweetly.
"Mm..." Carrie touched her cheek as they both pulled back. "Well, that was nice," she beamed.
Kelly laughed softly, "I just wanted to thank you properly for all the work you did in there. I love that you help out so much with the hospital."
"It's fun helping out here...and it makes you happy, so that's a double bonus."
Kelly kissed her again, pressing their lips together firmly, "I love you."
"I love you too," Carrie smiled, kissing the tip of her nose. "So much."
Kelly mirrored her smile as she sat back in her seat, taking Carrie's hand as the country singer pulled the car out of the parking lot.

"You know that I could use somebody,
Someone like you and all you know and how you speak,
Countless lovers undercover of the street."

"Hey girlie," Kelly joined Kate at one of the small tables in the game room after having gone home to change. "Wow, you look even more awkward sitting here than I do."
"Yea, well not everyone can be the height of a ten year old," she teased.
Kelly laughed softly, "So where's Jason?"
"Oh, uh," Kate looked around. "You know...he was right here a minute ago..."
Kelly nodded, studying her carefully.
"I think I upset him..." she admitted, pushing a little toy car across the table.
"What happened?"
"He, um...he wanted to sneak off somewhere for a little while," Kate blushed.
"And you didn't want?" Kelly raised an eyebrow.
"I felt guilty. I mean, we're here for Luke, and I don't think he'd be too thrilled at the thought of his future wife making out with some other guy at his going away party."
"Future wife?"
"His words, not mine," she laughed.
Kelly smiled, "Well, I think that's very sweet of you, so don't let my brother being his normal one-track minded self bum you out. And if he gives you any trouble, just tell me and I'll kick his ass for you."
"He's your brother," Kate pointed out.
"Yes, and I also promised you that I'd look after you and do whatever I could to make sure you're happy after all the shit you've been through because of Carrie and I, and I keep my promises. Plus, you know you're like a sister to me, and a sister trumps a brother any day."
"Alyssa told you that one?" Kate smiled.
"Yea, and she's the smart one in the family, so I tend to listen when she talks," she laughed softly, pushing the toy car back to her.
"So what time is this thing getting started?" Kate asked curiously.
"In a couple minutes. I just spoke with one of the doctors, and they just gave Luke his final exam, making sure that he really was ready to be released, and everything went great."
"A little bittersweet, huh?"
"Very much so," she nodded. "You're ok?"
"Yea, I'm good. I haven't really known him that long...he's just a super sweet kid, though, you know?"
"I know, but I meant about Jason."
"Oh...yea, I'm ok. Just kinda our first little argument. You know how that is..."
Kelly nodded again, "Yea...well, I'm gonna go find Care real quick and see if we can get this party started, ok?"
"Ok," she smiled as Kelly stood, squeezing her shoulder gently before walking away.
"Hey..." Carrie greeted with a smile as Kelly walked to her from across the room. "What's up?"
"Something's not right," Kelly frowned, their shoulders touching as they stood side by side.
Carrie traced the back of her hand with her finger, "With what?"
She nodded to where Kate was seated across the room, one of the little girls having joined her, getting Kate to read to her.
"What do you mean?"
"She's not happy."
"She looks ok to me," Carrie shrugged.
Kelly shook her head, "She's not, and I know it has something to do with this whole relationship thing with Jason. I was right...something's off about it."
"Why do you say that now?"
"They got into an argument because Kate didn't want to go sneak off somewhere to be alone. She gave some excuse about this being about Luke, but what new couple doesn't want to makeout every chance they get?"
"I know this may come as a shock to you, but not everybody is as sex crazed as we are," Carrie smiled.
Kelly sighed.
"Baby," her voice came out gentle. "I know you've always kind of taken on the protective roll when it comes to Kate, and you've always taken it upon yourself to make sure she's taken care of, I can see that, and I know she's like family to you, and it makes me love you so much more to see how amazing you are to your friends, but if she says she wants to be with Jason, then you have to respect that and let this go."
"But she--"
"She'd let you know if something were wrong," she gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "But you've got to let her stand on her own two feet, you know?"
"Yea..."
"You ok?"
"I wouldn't mind sneaking off with you somewhere right about now," she mumbled.
Carrie smiled softly, wrapping an arm around her, "I know today is hard on you, and I know you're emotional about Luke leaving which probably isn't helping the Kate situation, but it's all gonna be ok, ok?"
"Promise?"
"I promise," she nodded. "And how about when we get home tonight, I make us some hot chocolate, and we can snuggle up in bed together and have a movie marathon...we haven't done that in a while."
"That sounds good."
"Yea?"
"Yea," Kelly nodded, resting her head on the taller blonde's shoulder.
Carrie rubbed her back soothingly as Dr. Lopez walked into the game room.
"Ok, everyone...Luke and his parents are on their way, so get ready," he instructed with a smile.
Kelly stood up straight, watching the door closely.
"You're ok?"
"Yea," she felt herself starting to smile. "Now's not the time to be moping."
"Don't worry, you will be totally allowed to mope tonight," Carrie nodded.
"Yea?"
"Yep, that way I can make you feel better," she wiggled her eyes.
Kelly giggled.
"There's my girl," Carrie grinned, fighting with all she had not to kiss her.
"Oh, look, here they come," Kelly tugged on her hand, motioning to the door that was opening.
A resounding ''Surprise!" was heard throughout the room as Luke walked in with his parents right behind.
"Holy shit," Luke's jaw dropped, looking around at all the people.
"Lucas Alexander," his mother scolded.
Kelly laughed.
"He so learned that from you," Carrie whispered.
Kelly nudged her playfully.
"Oh wow, is that a cake?" Luke's eyes lit up when he noticed the table of food along the back wall. "This is so cool!"
"Now that he definitely learned from you," Carrie teased.
Kelly smiled, watching him hurry over to his group of friends excitedly.
"You did a great thing...do you know that?" Carrie asked softly.
"It was your idea," she shook her head.
"It was all you," Carrie replied. "And I love you so much for that."
"I love you too," Kelly turned to her, still smiling.
"Do you know how hard you make it for me to not kiss you?"
She laughed, feeling herself blushing slightly.
"Come on, there's a piece of cake with our name on it," Carrie grinned, leading her towards the snack table.
