**Chapter 14**

The limo pulled up at a side entrance for the beach. There were no boardwalks around and no people littering the sand. For all intents and purposes it looked to be deserted.

“I’ve never seen a beach this empty before.” Ally commented as they all piled out of the limo and onto the pavement.

“One of the perks to being famous.” Marshall grinned.

Ally smiled slightly and shook her head. All he had to do was throw out some money and he could close down a whole section of a public beach? That was crazy!

“I’m joking Ally…well kinda…it’s a private beach basically for this kinda thing. Us famous people like to act normal too and this is as close as it gets sometimes.”

“Oh.”

“C’mon, aint no point in just standen around when there is a whole beach over there.” Marshall grinned and took her hand as they followed behind the children who were already making their way to the sand.

Ally watched as Marshall’s driver carried over a huge duffel bag and set it down when they found the perfect spot. She frowned as she noticed he was starting to set up the area for them.

“Um, I can do that.”

“It’s ok Miss…I…”

“No really…I insist…you can just go and relax now.” Ally said gently as she pulled the blanket from his hands. It wasn’t in her to watch someone waiting on hand and foot for her. Not to mention she was pretty sure there was nothing in his job description that required him to do it anyway.

The driver looked at Marshall for a second before nodding and making his way back to the limo. Thankfully he wasn’t required to do such tasks for his normal clients, but whenever Marshall was in town, the rapper asked specifically for him as a driver. His company made sure they did all they could to accommodate such a big star, but Victor just did what he always did as a driver. He was courteous and polite and above all he was discreet. Never did he ask questions of those he was driving, nor did he pay attention to what may or may not be going on in the back while the privacy screen was up. He knew that some of the others in his company were less than honest and he also knew it was why more and more stars stopped using them. More than once a story would leak to a tabloid about certain affairs or drug usage concerning high profile entertainers and it made him sick. These people were no different than anyone else, behind all the glitter and fame, there was still a normal person with the wants and needs and even problems just like everyone else in the world.

Marshall was a normal guy. Victor actually didn’t have to do anything besides drive the other man to his desired location on most occasions. He thought he would give him a hand since the other man was obviously trying to impress the young woman with him. She surprised him though. She obviously wasn’t one of the normal young tarts around here just waiting for their big break. In all honesty, she didn’t even look like she was comfortable with Marshall’s fame. She seemed like a good woman and Victor only hoped she and Marshall could work it all out.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Ally kicked off her sandles and watched Marshall do the same with his sneakers as she spread the blanket out on the soft sand and then opened her bookbag. Pulling out a large tube of sunscreen and looking up at the kids who were currently making their way down to the water she called out to them

“Hold it!” She yelled.

The two girls turned slowly back around to face Ally.

“First of all…you can’t go in the water alone Tiff. I don’t want you going out too far or getting caught up in the waves so you’ll have to wait for me or Marshall. Secondly, none of you has sunblock on and I don’t feel like dealing with a bunch of whiney babies later because you all got burnt…so come get in line and I’ll rub ya down.”

“Shit I’m first then. You guys needa wait your turns.” Marshall laughed before throwing himself down in front of the now kneeling Ally and pulling off his tee.

“Get outta here, the kids get lotion first.” Ally laughed, pushing against his now bare shoulder.

“Yea daddy, move it! I wanna go in the water!” Hailie yelled pushing in front of him so Ally could put the lotion on her.

“Fine Hailie, but when I’m as red as a tomato you gotta take care of me.” Marshall whined as he pulled his shorts off to reveal his black swim trunks.

“Stop being a baby, you can put lotion on too!” Hailie said, rolling her eyes and turning so Ally could reach her back.

“Did you just roll your eyes at me?” Marshall questioned, his voice getting higher in humor.

Hailie smiled and then stuck her tongue out.

“And now your sticken your tongue out too. Oh no way am I gonna take that!” Marshall said as he made a lunge for her.

Hailie squealed and tore away from Ally who had just finished rubbing in the lotion. She quickly made her way down towards the water, not once looking back at her father who was hot on her heels.

“I’ma get you Hailie Jade!” Marshall yelled as he ran behind her.

He made as if he was going to catch her a few times, but let her get away as they ran threw the waves along the beach. Finally he ran past her and scooped her up as he made his way into the ocean. Hailie screamed happily as a wave hit them and rocked them closer to the shore.

Ally laughed at the two playing in the water and continued to rub the cool lotion on Tiffany’s little body.

“You ready for the water now?”

“Yea!” Tiffany yelled excitedly as she grabbed Ally’s hand.

“Ok ok, we’re going girlie.” Ally laughed before looking over at Brian who was sitting on his towel without a shirt, music blaring from his head phones. “One sec Tiff. Let me talk to your brother a second.”

Ally walked the short distance and threw the lotion down next to him. Brian looked up from beneath his shades and took off his headphones.

“Put some lotion on so you don’t burn ok?”

“Sure.” Brain agreed, popping the cap open.

“We’re gonna go in the water…if you wanna come down for a bit.”

Brian looked down at the water briefly and then back at Ally. “Maybe in a few minutes.”

“Ok. Well…we’ll be there when your ready.”

Brian nodded and put his headphones back on as he poured some lotion in his hand.

Ally quickly made her way back over to the now impatient Tiffany, who was waiting at the waters edge. She stood far enough away where the oncoming waves just barely touched her little toes.

“Can we go in now?”

“Yup.” Ally said taking her hand as they walked in.

Tiffany smiled and tried to run farther in, loving how the waves crashed around her.
Marshall scooped up his soaking wet daughter and carried her closer to where Ally and Tiffany were standing.

“You guys finally decided to come in then huh?”

“Yea!” Tiffany laughed as she tried to jump over the wave.

Hailie slid down from her fathers arms and grabbed Tiffany’s free hand, together they both jumped, trying to beat the shallow waves. Tiffany let go of Ally and the two girls faced each other as they played in the water.

Marshall made his way through the water and stood by Ally. They were in a shallow enough area that he didn’t worry about the girls getting caught in a wave.

“They’re getting along pretty good.”

“Yea. Tiffany needs more friends so I’m happy she’s having fun with Hailie.”

Marshall laughed and grabbed her hand as they walked behind the girls, who were now running around the waters edge by the beach.

“Hailie makes friends everywhere she goes. It’s like…she could talk to a tree and it would follow her around.”

“Tiffany is usually shy at first, she’s kind of spoiled so doesn’t like to share a lot…her toys or her time. But I guess Hailie being such a leader; she doesn’t have to worry about it ya know. She can be the one to just follow along I guess.”

“Hailie is defiantly take charge. But she isn’t normally the older one either. All her friends are older than she is so; it’s probably nice for the both of them to have a reversal of roles kinda thing.”

“Yea.”

Marshall frowned then and looked back at the beach.

“Isn’t he gonna go in the water?”

“Eventually. He’s kind of a loner so when it’s more than just me and Tiff around him, he needs to…take his time I guess. Besides that, I think he’s still in shock that his idol is in the same vicinity as he is.”

“Damn, I don’t think anyone has thought of me as their idol before.” Marshall laughed.

“Well I think he relates to your music, so he thinks you guys have this…kinship maybe?”

“Yea I get that. A lot of people say that shit to me. I hear more about their problems and how they get what I’m sayen than anything else.”

“Well, I don’t know your music that well. I actually only know of the songs that are played on the radio really, but I can see that you’re all about real issues and unfortunately Brian deals with a lot of those real issues. His father is an alcoholic who they only see once in a while because he’s to busy screwing his secretary and not to mention the senior partner at his firm. And when he is home, he doesn’t spend anytime with them, he locks himself in his office for the day, only coming out to yell at Brian to shut the music off or to ‘get off his lazy ass and do something useful around the house.’ Before he goes into the kitchen to make another drink.”

“Damn. You think he…”

“Does he hit him? I think it’s happened, although I couldn’t prove it. Brian hides things really well. He’s…lonely. I think he justifies his fathers actions because he doesn’t know any better. They are the only two men in the house, so he has nothing to compare it to ya know?”

“That’s some deep shit Ally. You sure you aint a shrink instead of a nanny? But I get what your sayen. He needs to find a friend who he can talk to and shit. That’s what I did after awhile.”

“Yea, but their mother isn’t any better, although I can almost understand why she is the way she is. She’s seeing a man at her office too. I guess she feels like if he can do it then so can she. Her children barely know her though and when they are in the same room she talks to them like they are interns at her firm. She yells at them and orders them to do what she wants. Poor Tiffany just wants to play with her and Mrs. Westing, while drinking a scotch, tells her to come back later because she’s busy and yet she says the same thing each time Tiffany tries. I didn’t realize until today how much they really need me around.”

“Yea well, you grow on people pretty fast so I can imagine how it felt for them not to have you there when they needed you.”

Ally smiled and hugged his arm to her. “Thanks.”

“Yea well, that’s probably as mushy as it’s gonna get, and I think I’m limiting myself to talking like a bitch only once a day so don’t expect anymore until tomorrow.”

Ally nodded and laughed loudly.

“I can deal with that.”
