The courier delivered a the envelope to Johnny Depp an hour after Kellie’s flight had left. Johnny didn’t waste anytime in opening it and reading Kellie’s notes.
Johnny,
I’m sure by now you know what happened. Enclosed is every article ever written about my family and their deaths. I encourage you to read them first and then pass them on to Orlando. All I ask is that he read them. He needs to know ALL the truth, not just what he’s been told. If he chooses not to read them that’s ok. I don’t need any confirmation from you or him.
Thanks.
Kellie
Johnny sighed and looked at the clock. It was his day off, but the courier had woke him up. He hadn’t slept much after Orlando called him and told him what had happened. None of what he’d been told sat well with him. Knowing Kate was involved bothered him even more. He dumped the articles out of the envelope onto the coffee table. Kellie had separated them into three different categories. Each with a cover page that read Negative, Positive and Neutral. “Made it easy for me!” Johnny exclaimed. He spread them out and then went to make some coffee. By the time he was finished Vanessa had awakened. “What’s all this?” She gestured to the papers. Johnny handed her a cup and sat down. “These are all the articles about Kellie and her family.” He said. “She must have printed them off before she left.” Johnny sipped his coffee and picked up the negative pile. Vanessa in turn picked up the positive and both began to read.
The negative pile held all the information Orlando had already relayed to Johnny. After and hour of skimming he put it down and picked up the neutral pile. Vanessa finished the positive and then took half of Johnny’s pile. After two hours of reading they finally finished. “I don’t get it.” Vanessa said. “It’s obvious that the deaths were all accidents! How can anyone blame her?”
Johnny didn’t answer, but handed her the negative pile and watched his wife’s facial features go from calm to irrational in a matter of seconds. “You can’t be serious! Orlando believed this junk?” She said. Vanessa threw the papers down and started to pace. “He didn’t get to see the other articles. My guess is that Kellie intended to show him all this last night.” Johnny said. “Only she never got the chance, Kate beat her to it.” Vanessa glared at the papers she had just thrown down. “We have to take these to Orlando and make him read them!” She finally declared.
“That’s what I’m going to do, but Kellie still doesn’t want to hear from him.” Johnny said. He began gathering all the papers back together. He then slid them in the envelope. “Are you going right now?” Vanessa asked. Johnny nodded as he gathered everything up. “I’m going with you.” She said.
An hour later they arrived at Orlando’s hotel room. They knocked for five minutes before Orlando finally answered the door. It was obvious he had emptied the mini bar and had barely slept. Orlando reeked of alcohol. His hair stuck up in every imaginable direction. He still wore his clothes from yesterday and his eyes were red and swollen. “What do you want?” He asked. Johnny didn’t answer him. He pushed the door open and forced Orlando to back up and let them in. Vanessa immediately began opening the drapes. She then called room service and ordered a carafe of coffee. Orlando had slumped onto the couch. He didn’t looked at either of them.
“I have something for you to look at.” Johnny said. He waited for Orlando to look up before he went on. “Kellie had this sent to me.” He held up the thick envelope. He watched as Orlando’s eyes pooled and he furiously wiped them.
“What is it?” He asked.
“It’s all the articles she collected about her past.” Johnny answered.
“I’ve read enough.”
“No, you read all the bad ones. Now you need to read the rest.”
Orlando sighed and ran a hand though his hair. “Fine! Leave it and I’ll read it later.”
“I’ll leave it, but you have to promise you’ll read all of it.” Johnny said.
Orlando looked at him. Johnny knew that Orlando would never break a promise to him.
“I promise.” He said.
Johnny place the envelope on the table in front of Orlando. Room service had arrived with the coffee and Vanessa placed that in front of him.
“Drink this and take a shower first.” She said. Orlando nodded and reached for the coffee. Johnny ushered Vanessa towards the door. “If you need anything call us.” He said. Orlando nodded as he starred at the envelope. Johnny and Vanessa left. The sound of the door shutting echoed through the suite. Orlando slide sideways to lay on the couch and that’s where he stayed for quite some time.
Jenna quickly looked around the apartment. She knew if she left the note a ring out where Kellie would see them she’s toss them. Finally she spotted a corner table that was obscured by a huge spider plant. Jenna hadn’t even realized it was a table until now. She walked over and began to move the long variegated leaves of the plant. She spotted a small drawer. She opened it and found it empty and dusty inside. ‘Perfect, she doesn’t use this drawer!’ Jenna slid the note and box inside. Just then she heard the kettle whistle. She glanced at Kellie’s door, all was silent for now. Jenna made herself some tea and settled on the couch for a long night.
Kellie woke with a start. She’d been dreaming, but couldn’t remember what it was about. She lay on her bed in a fetal position, still wearing her clothes. Her hair was coming out of the braid . Her eyes were swollen and hurt. Orlando came to her mind. ‘What if he’s the first and last thing on my mind every day for the rest of my life? I can’t deal with losing someone I love again!’ Kellie balled her fists and buried her face into the coverlet. “Love!” She spat. “I Love him!”
She sat up and stared into the mirror above her dresser. Her reflection reminded her of the days following the accidents. She hadn’t recovered from losing her children when the Naval officers had come to tell her about her husband. She hadn’t gotten out of bed for a week. That was how she felt now. Kellie got up and moved closer to the mirror. Tiny blood vessels had broken around her eyes and made her look even worse. She smoothed some of her hair back and leaned closer. Her face was blotchy and puffy. “You love him?” She asked her reflection. Immediately tears pooled and slipped down her cheeks. She cupped her face and backed up. When she felt the bed behind her she sat down. “Yes!” She sobbed. “I love him and it hurts!”
