The next morning at the stadium.

“Benny! This is stupid! Why am I so nervous.”

“Calm down it’s going to be ok .”

“I have to go to the bathroom.”

“No you don’t,” Kelly kept pacing Benny put his hands on her shoulders, “you need to calm down.”

She stopped, “I know,” Kelly replied taking big breaths in and out.

Carrie stood against the wall slowly breathing in and out. She saw Kelly talking to Benny *She looks so much better than before* Carrie thought.

“Hi Kelly, I’m Grant Mitchell.”

“Hi nice to you meet you, this is my body guard Benny.”

“Nice to meet you to sir,” Grant said shaking Benny’s hands.

“You too sir,” Benny replied.

“Ok now Kelly you will be standing not to far from the spot you are now.”

“Ok am I going to rehearse or is everything ok?”

“I think you will have to rehearse once so they can get the microphone in check and everything. They are worried about the halftime show and how to put the stage together.”

“Yeah I figured you guys wouldn’t need me that long.”

“Yeah you are more than welcome to hang out here though and watch so we will call you when we are ready for you if that’s ok?”

“Yeah sure that’s fine,” Kelly replied smiling.

“Thanks. You are amazing not an ounce of Diva in you.”

“Thank you sir,” Kelly replied Grant walked off to talk to a group of people. She stood and watched as the men and women around slowly started to put a stage together.

“Hey,” Carrie said

Kelly turned around and her breath hitched, “Hi.” The two stood not knowing what to do. Part of Carrie wanted to take Kelly in her arms but another part of her wasn’t ready to. Kelly on the other hand just wanted to throw her arms around Carrie and never let, but she didn’t instead they both stood there kind of awkwardly.

“Hey Benny,” Carrie said. Giving him a hug.

“Hi Carrie. I’m going to go over there and see if I can do anything to help,” Benny replied leaving the two girls alone.

“How was your trip?” Kelly asked.

“It was good yours?”

“Good.”

“You look good,” Carrie said.

“Thanks you do to.” The two stood in an uncomfortable silence.

“This is harder than I thought it would be,” Kelly informed Carrie.

“Yeah I know. I’m sorry I thought it would be easier. I mean I could talk to you on the phone and everything, but seeing you hear it’s not that easy.”

“I know.”

“Are you looking forward to Thanksgiving?”

“Yeah I am I miss my family I’ve been so busy that I haven’t seen them forever. How about you?”

“Yeah I get to meet the rest of Tony’s family,” Carrie said regrettably.

“That’s cool. So is he a nice guy?”

“Yeah he is.”

“Good because you deserve it.”

“Thanks.”

Kelly nodded and gave a small smile, “Well I think they probably need you over there, cause as of right now they don’t need me till later when they call me. So the guys name is Grant you want to talk to.”

“Thanks are you staying around then?”

“Yeah they just want to do one rehearsal with me so I don’t think we will be too long but I’m gonna go hang out with Benny while you do whatever you need to.”

“Thanks,” Carrie said as Kelly started walking away, “and Kelly?”

“Yeah,” Kelly said turning back around.

“It was nice seeing you.”

“You too,” Kelly replied as she headed toward Benny.

Carrie talked to Grant was told what she has to do and that was to wait for a little while, while they figured out how the stage was going to be set up. So she walked around to where all the concessions were. She saw a woman and 2 kids walking toward her looking very confused.

“Hey can I help you?”

“Hi yeah I am looking for Kelly.”

“Clarkson?”

“I know this is going to sound weird but yeah I am.”

“Ok why are you looking for her?”

“She told me when we got here to find her.”

“Oh,” Carrie said confused.

“Ok I’m sorry I’m Jennie, Benny’s wife and this is Caleb and Carly.”

“Oh ok I’m sorry I thought maybe you were just some crazy fan or something.”

“No Kelly flew us down here so we could be with my husband for the holiday.”

“She did? I’m Carrie by the way.”

“I know but nice to meet you. Yeah she flew us down here this morning. She called yesterday and asked if we would like to come down here so we could spend time with Ben. He doesn’t know we are here. She is just a sweetheart.”

“Yeah she is,” Carrie replied with a twinkle in her eye.

“And she even invited us to her family’s Thanksgiving since we aren’t from around here.”

“She’s amazing,” Carrie said as butterflies started to develop in the pit of her stomach.

“So now we are here and I have no idea where to go.”

“I can show you. She actually isn’t busy now for once,” Carrie laughed Jennie soon followed. “Ok she and Benny are right through there let me go tell her you are here so say here so Benny won’t see you.”

“Ok thank you.” Carrie smiled and walked toward Kelly.

“Hey Benny can I borrow her for a second?”

“Go for it,” Benny said Kelly mouthed to him “What?!” He just shrugged his shoulders.

“So I found some people wandering around the concession area.”

“Oh my God Jennie, Carly, and Caleb! I forgot! Ok well not really but I forgot she didn’t have my number!”

“It’s ok I told them where you were and they are standing against the wall out here.”

“Thank you,” Kelly said taking Carrie’s hand in hers, Carrie pulled it away fast though. “Sorry.” Kelly said softly. She rounded the corner and saw Jennie. “Hey I’m so sorry I forgot you didn’t have my number.”

“It’s ok,” Jennie said coming closer to Kelly wrapping her arms tight around her. “Thank you so much. You don’t know how much this means to us. You are an amazing person.”

Kelly blushed, “Thanks,” she said in a whisper. Carly followed right after her mom giving Kelly a hug but her arms wrapped around her waist because it’s as far as she could reach. Caleb soon followed but he held up his hand giving her a high 5. Carrie watched the exchange between the family and Kelly and her heart melted. *This is the girl I fell in love with. I could so kiss her right now. No Carrie no she hurt me. I can’t let it happen again. I won’t let it happen again.* “Ok Benny is right by the field so I’ll go out and make him face away and I’ll have Carrie here watch me as so you won’t be seen and then I’ll motion for her to bring you guys up. Ok?”

“Ok,” Jennie, Carly, and Caleb said.

“Ok,” Kelly said turning to Carrie. “You don’t mind helping me out do you?”

“Not at all.”

“Thanks,” Kelly said walking back toward Benny.

“She really is an amazing person,” Jennie stated.

“Yeah she is,” Carrie smiled sadly.

Kelly approached Benny, “So what did she want?”

“Small talk you know.”

“Yeah.”

“So I think you should try and get passed me.”

“Please short fry you couldn’t stop me.”

“Wanna bet?”

“Yeah sure, ok come get me!”

“I will,” she ran after Benny jumping on him like giving him a big hug. She motioned for Carrie to tell Jennie and the kids to come out. She let go and put her feet back down on the ground. “Ha I win.”

“Yeah yeah I let you.”

“Sure you did,” Kelly said as Jennie approached the field. “You know Benny I think there are some people here to see you!” She exclaimed looking past him. He turned in the direction to see his wife and two children walking toward him. He turned back and looked at Kelly with a huge smile on his face. He walked toward his family and hugged them all.

“What are you guys doing here?”

“Kelly flew us here. She wanted you to spend the holiday with us,” Jennie replied. Carrie watched as everything unfolded. She was amazed. Benny walked up to Kelly. He lifted her a spun her.

“Thank you,” he stated.

“You’re welcome. Get out of here your wife has a car go sight seeing or shopping or something.”

“What about you?”

“Give me the keys to the car and I’ll be fine,” Kelly smiled, Benny handed her the keys.

“Thank you again.” Benny collected his family and they were off. Kelly sat down on a bench close to her. Carrie came up and sat next to her.

“I think that was the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen you do,” Kelly looked over at Carrie. “Well I mean you always did sweet things for me, but you got something out of it.”

“I didn’t do those things for you to get something. I did it because I loved you.”

“I know. You are something else,” Carrie paused, “I wanted to hate you so badly when you know, but I couldn’t. Part of me right now wants to still be mad at you, but I can’t because you go and do something like what you just did for Benny and his family. You are amazing Kelly. And I will never stop thinking that ever no matter what I do. I really want us to try and be friends. I forgive you, but I can never forget what you did. I wish you would have just let me in.”

“You shouldn’t forgive me Carrie. I shouldn’t be forgiven not now not ever. I did the worst thing I could ever do to you. I don’t understand why you would even want to be around me, I mean I am so thankful that you want to friends, but I don’t ever think I can forgive myself for what I did.”

“You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. I know you are a good person Kelly. We all make mistakes you just happen to make a bigger one.”

“You know Benny told me the exact same thing.”

“Great minds think alike,” Carrie giggled.

“Ok.”

“Ok what?”

“Friends.”

“Ok friends,” Carrie said, “there is one thing I need you to do.”

“What?”

“Let me in Kelly. You have these walls built up so high that no one can get in. Please let me in. Let me get to know you.”

“I can try. That’s all I can do is try.”

“Thank you.”

“Carrie you are something else too. I don’t even get why you didn’t slam the door in my face when I came to see you a while ago.”

“I thought about it, but I don’t know I just couldn’t.”

“Kelly we’re ready for you,” Grant said.

“Ok,” Kelly stood, “I’m guessing they will need you right after me so I’m probably gonna head back to my hotel, but it was really nice seeing you.”

“You too,” Carrie stood Kelly backed away and turned walking toward Grant. “Hey Kelly?”

“Yeah?”

“Would you like to get something to eat after I’m finished? I mean you could go back to your hotel and I can just meet you there?”

“Yeah I would like that. I’ll see you later than.”
