Everlasting Love(Pt14)
Phil fidgeted in the soft leather seat of the limo, darting his eyes back and forth to the driver and the scenery speeding by outside the window. The afternoon sun beat down on the lush green hills as Jason drove them on the windy roads towards Joe’s house.
Of the past 24 years that Phil had chosen the path to darkness, to become a creature of the night, this is one time he wished he could walk in daylight as a vampire. He would have flown faster to Joe’s house. The past sixteen hours were the most difficult hours in his life. Waking up in the middle of the day, an agonizing pain he had never felt before, filled his mind from Sav….then nothing.
Phil reached out to him through their bond over the vast miles and found nothing, not even a glimmer of being blocked, like before. He did however feel Joe, felt the turmoil, the fear in him. Phil finally managed to get a phone call through once the private jet was high enough. Evelyn filled him in on what was happening the best she could. Phil warned her to be careful while she attended to Amber, but to stay away from Joe and Sav until he got there.
He called several times through out the flight, the last time just as they landed. Evelyn told him that Nick was there and had no idea what was wrong with Sav. Phil sighed with a bit of relieve, but it still didn’t ease his mind.
Jason finally turned into the long driveway of Joe’s house, he pushed the control for the garage doors and pulled inside. Phil watched the door slowly close and leaped from the back when it was safe enough. He hit the door at a run and followed his link to Joe.
Racing through the vast home, upstairs he bolted in the door to Sav's room, quickly making his over to the figures on the floor, he dropped to his knees beside them. Although Evelyn told him what to expect, it didn’t hit him until then how bad the situation was.
Joe was leaning on the wall, his legs stretched out. Sav cradled in his arms, his head resting against Joe’s chest. The blood dripping from Sav’s mouth stained the front of hiss shirt.
Phil looked up at Joe, he had his cheek pressed against the top of Sav’s head, staring blankly ahead.
“Joe.” Phil said softly. He didn’t respond and Phil tried several more times, finally touching his arm and shaking it a bit. “That’s it…come on, focus on me.”
Joe’s blood shot green eyes came into focus. “Phil…”
“Yeah its me…I’m here now.” Phil reached up and cupped his cheek, wiping away the tears that spilled over. “Sav is going to be alright.”
Joe slowly shook his head. “I...I can’t feel….h…he’s dead...can’t feel him.”
“No he’s not.”
“…my fault…left him…h...he…Amber….dead….a…and ring…can’t feel him…all my fault.”
Phil scooted closer and took Joe’s head between his hands. “It is not your fault Joe. Sav is not dead…..”
Joe slowly shook his head.
“No! Listen to me. Sav is not dead, he loves you too much for that, now you have to pull yourself together and help him.”
“…not there…he’s gone…my fault…” Joe’s voice cracked and he starting crying harder. “…my fault…”
“Joseph Thomas Elliott!…” Phil yelled and grabbed his shoulders, shaking him. “...don’t you dare give up on Rick or yourself. Do you hear me…Rick is going to be all right?”
Phil watched his eyes glaze over as he slipped back into himself. Joe hugged Sav closer to him and moved to lye down. He buried his face in the croak of Sav’s neck.
Phil only caught a few of the words that he was mumbling. Standing up Phil watched him a moment longer trying to grasp what was happening.
“You couldn’t get through to him either?”
Phil looked up to see Nick standing on the other side of the room. He was unaware that Nick was even in the room until he spoke.
“No…he’s completely out of it…he recognized me but that’s it. Joe is blaming himself for what’s wrong with Sav.”
”Richard only has himself to blame this time.” Nick said.
“That’s not true Nick and you know it. You will take the blame this time. Neither one of them would be in this condition, if you wouldn’t have demanded that Sav leave with you. He didn’t have a choice, Sav never does where you’re concerned.”
”I thought I was doing the right thing, by making him tell Joe of his relationship with Amber.”
Phil stalked over to Nick and grabbed his arm, yanking him around to face him. “The right thing? Look at them!” Phil pointed to the floor. “It was not the right thing to do. Joe would have gotten over it, just like before. I thought you understood the love they have for each other.”
Nick swiped away the tear that ran down his face. He knew that every word Phil yelled at him was the truth. His endless obsession to play mind games with Sav, to thwart his relationship with Joe, every chance he could to get Sav back by his side permanently, always failed.
“I’m warning you now. If either one of them dies, you are signing your own deaths warrant.”
“I wont let that happen.” Nick softly replied.
Gail came into the room and heard the last part of what Phil said. She could feel his anger towards Nick through their bond. Brushing it off as temporary she approached them. “I found this in Amber’s room after you left.” She hand Nick a bottle of pills.
“Evelyn and I already searched her room. We didn’t find anything.”
“Well apparently you didn’t look hard enough. It was under the bed in a locked box. I’m surprised you didn’t break it open.”
”Amber has had that box for years. I already knew what was in it. Her personal things that I never touched when we were together.”
Phil took another bottle from Gail. “What kind of pills are there for?”
”Medications for AIDS.” Nick finished.
“That’s impossible. Amber didn’t have AIDS.” Phil scoffed.
“Apparently she did. And didn’t want to tell anyone.” Gail told them. “I also found a letter from Jeremy’s sister. He died of AIDS related pneumonia over two years ago.”
“So she got it from Jeremy. That’s why she left him.” Phil mused. “But it doesn’t explain why Sav is sick just because he brought her across. I mean, we help people with fatal diseases die all the time.”
Nick stared off at nothing, deep in thought. “Not with AIDS.” He turned and with long strides left the room.
“What?…wait. What is that suppose to mean?” Phil ran after him down the stairs, into the kitchen where he snatched up the phone.
“Think Philip. Whenever you come across a mortal dying of a disease. What is the first thing you smell?”
“Um…decay mostly, a strong smell of metallic in their blood, but it…”
”Exactly!” Nick shoot back. “Even I couldn't pinpoint the reason for the different smell in her blood.”
“Uh…that doesn’t make sense.”
“You’re still a young vampire, you learn these thin…Felix...Nick de Brabant.” Nick spoke into the phone. “Yes…yes it has been awhile. Look I don’t have time for pleasantries. I need a favor.”
Phil listened to both sides of the conversation.
“It’ll cost you.”
“I don’t care. I need some Storm.”
“Oh...how much?”
“Whatever you have.”
“Do you plan on knocking out the entire vampire community Nick?”
“I don’t have time for this petty shit. Do you have any or not?” Nick yelled into the phone.
“Yes…yes of course I do.”
”How much?”
”Oh…2 million for what I have.”
”Fine. I need it within the hour.”
“Where are you located?” Felix inquired.
”Ireland.”
“Oh I don’t know if I can get it there in…”
“I’ll make it 5 million if you can.”
“Must be really important Nick.”
”It is.” Nick glanced at Phil. “Richard brought someone across that had AIDS.”
“Oh dear, not good. I’m on my way.”
“Thanks Felix.” Nick hung up the phone.
“What is Storm?”
“It’s the drug that will put a vampire to sleep.” Nick headed back upstairs. “I’ve used it several time, but not on Sav. Marcus did when he took him that time.”
“Oh.” Phil frowned at the memory. “And who are you going to us it on?”
”Joe.”
”Why?”
“Putting him to sleep is the only way to get Sav away from him. Joe will not relinquish his hold on Sav to anyone, not even you, once Joe is asleep, we’ll move him. Then take care of Sav.”
Phil followed him back into the room, once again grabbing his arm. “Is Sav going to die Nick?”
Nick looked him dead in the eye. “I’m not going to lie to you Phil. I don’t know, but you and I will do everything we can to prevent that from happening. Do you know what will happen if he does?”
Phil ran his hand over his face. “Joe will too.”
