We Meet Again – pt 14
Daniel lay with his head propped up on his hand, watching Darren sleep. He looked so serene. The corners of his lips were turned up ever so slightly, and Daniel wondered what, or whom, he was dreaming about.
He gazed at the smooth expanse of Darren’s chest, so firm, yet so soft; lightly covered with fine hairs.
‘What I feel is right.’ He brought his lips to Darren’s chest in the gentlest of touches.
‘What I feel is good.’ Continued down his chest with featherlike kisses.
‘What I feel is an important part of who I am.’ He stopped a moment, and smiled tenderly at the sight of Darren’s Mini-Me boxers.
‘And by acknowledging this…’ He carefully laid his head on Darren’s groin. ‘I acknowledge what makes me whole.’
Daniel inhaled deeply, sighed softly. Smiled. Paul was right. The sentences were powerful. And Darren had been so wonderful these past days. So helpful. So supportive.
He’d never thought he would be happy again. Never thought he’d be with *Darren* again. He rubbed his cheek lightly on Darren’s groin. Smiled again as it began to have the intended effect.
Daniel carefully raised his head, and turned to watch Darren. He held his breath a moment as he studied the slow rise and fall of Darren’s chest. The eye movement behind closed lids that indicated he was probably deep into a dream.
Daniel grinned and wondered if Darren’s dream was anything like he had in mind, as he lowered his lips to Darren’s boxers.
Darren moaned as his body arched, waking him from the hottest dream he’d had in… well, as long as he could remember. He brought his hands to his face to rub his tired eyes.
As his brain began to process reality, he realized he was feeling rather sticky, and blushed.
He hadn’t had a wet dream in—
“Morning, beautiful.”
Hot lips met his own tenderly, as he struggled to blink the sleep from his eyes.
Daniel’s head drew back, and he saw the conspiratorial grin. He seemed unusually happy this morning.
“Danny?” He sounded like a parent questioning a child, but he couldn’t help it. Daniel just *looked* guilty. And damn sexy.
“Dazza?” Daniel teased in the same tone.
Darren blinked his eyes while he tried to think of something smart to say, but his brain seemed content to stay dreamily in the realm of post orgasmic bliss.
Failing at a comeback, he simply replied, “It seems I need a shower already.”
Daniel’s grin widened, became his bright, beaming smile. It was contagious.
Smiling back, Darren put his right hand on the back of Daniel’s neck, and pulled him in for another kiss. His tongue met Daniel’s, and they twined a moment, before he let Daniel’s tongue into his own mouth so he could suck on it.
Daniel groaned into his mouth. Darren smiled, drawing back to suck on Daniel’s lower lip before he broke away completely.
“Thank you, I think,” he replied, squirming a bit.
Daniel gently pushed some unruly locks of hair out of his face.
Darren could tell Daniel had something on his mind so he smiled gently, shifted toward him, and tenderly ran the fingers of his right hand up and down Daniel’s arm. Raised his eyebrows in amused curiosity and waited.
“I—Darren, I—”
Darren brought his fingers up to caress Daniel’s cheek encouragingly.
“I just wanted to say thank you.”
“What’re mates for?”
Daniel blushed lightly. “I—I’m just not good enough with words.”
Darren heard his frustration, and stopped his hand on Daniel’s shoulder. Gave him a little shake.
“There are more ways to show thanks than fancy words, Danny. You show me that every day. The way you look at me. The way you kiss me. The way you smile at me…”
He pulled Daniel closer, pushed himself up on his left elbow, and lowered his voice. His own embarrassment coming through in his tone now.
“The way you were there for me last night. Trust me, Danny. Your heart speaks very clearly to me.”
Daniel leaned in and kissed him again. Pulled back and nodded.
“Think you could fix coffee while I take a shower?”
“Okay. See ya downstairs, Dazza.”
“Daniel, we really should get some groceries today. We’re out of fruit. Fresh lettuce would be good, too; and salad fixings, chicken, onions.” Darren finished as he walked over to the coffee pot and poured himself a cup.
Daniel set a plate of bagels on the table, next to a small tub of cream cheese and a jar of strawberry jam.
Darren joined him at the table; watching as Daniel split his bagel, then spread cream cheese on it. He wouldn’t look at Darren.
“I don’t mind going by myself, Danny.” Darren spoke normally. He was a bit disappointed, but Daniel had made such progress; he didn’t want to push him, or his luck.
“But you get to put them all away, because I’m sure I’ll be simply exhausted by the time I return!” He finished in a high falsetto, leaning back in his chair, with the back of his right hand on his forehead, his eyes closed while he fanned himself with his left hand.
He smiled when he heard Daniel’s low chuckle.
“Cheeky sod.”
Darren sat back up, grinning cheekily in response. “But you love me.”
“That I do, baby.”
Darren’s breath caught in his throat at the desire in Daniel’s voice. His eyes locked with Daniel’s, and it wasn’t until Daniel began
chuckling that he realized he’d spaced out, putting as much of the jam on his fingers as his bagel.
He blushed lightly, cleared his throat nervously. Stuck his thumb in his mouth to suck the jam off.
“Dazza…”
Daniel’s husky voice reached his ears as his right hand grasped Darren’s left, and pulled it to his own mouth. The singer’s mouth opened instinctively as he watched Daniel put his sticky index finger in his mouth.
Opened a bit wider as Daniel’s lips closed around the digit, his tongue swirling around its entire length, as he began to suck on it.
“Aaooaahh…” Darren moaned involuntarily, his gaze still held by Daniel’s dark emerald eyes.
He found it hard to breathe as Daniel continued working on his finger.
Swallowed nervously.
“Ooohh… Danny… s—stop… please… I—I uh… need to eat or I’ll go crazy at the store…”
Daniel replaced the finger with the thumb Darren had just sucked on. Moving it slowly in and out of his mouth, his tongue curved around it as it slid, his eyes smiling mischievously.
“Danny… please… you know what I—I’m like in a store wh—when I do—don’t eat…” Darren pleaded.
“I love the way you taste.” Daniel said as he took Darren’s thumb from his mouth; then began placing small kisses on the palm of his hand, moving slowly up to his wrist.
Darren’s breathing became ragged as Daniel’s tongue lapped his wrist, and began a slow, lazy trip up his forearm.
Daniel glanced at Darren as he switched from licking up Darren’s arm, back to small kisses. Darren’s mouth still hung open, his chest heaving noticeably.
A small smile appeared on Daniel’s lips as he began to suck on the inner curve of Darren’s elbow.
Darren’s eyes closed as his head tilted back, yet another moan escaping his throat.
Daniel pulled Darren toward him. Smiled at the slightly dazed look in Darren’s dark sapphire eyes.
He moved in to capture Darren’s lips, quickly thrusting his tongue into Darren’s open mouth.
Darren melted into his kiss as Daniel put his right hand up behind Darren’s head, his fingers entwining themselves in Darren’s hair.
Slowly he drew back from Darren, smiling shyly.
“Thank you for understanding, Darren.”
Darren swallowed again.
“Uh… yeah… ‘s okay, Danny.” Darren nodded weakly. “Um… yeah.”
Darren still looked bemused as he began eating his bagel.
Daniel chuckled again, then turned his attention back to his own breakfast.
Darren pushed the basket ahead of him, while scanning the fruits and vegetables. Lettuce. Mushrooms. Vidalia onions. Broccoli. Sprouts.
He grinned. Bananas. Apples. Mmm, Papaya. Another smile… Strawberries. Whipped cream. Chocolate. Baking. Eating. Oh, yes, eating.
Syrup. Ice cream.
He almost laughed out loud at his thoughts. How cliché, how droll. But how mesmerizing!
Chicken, might as well save time by getting the boneless, skinless; easier to fix with less mess.
A variety of bagels, he decided. namonamon raisin, plain, and wheat. More cream cheese. Shredded cheese for baking and salads.
He remembered the pasta he’d seen in the pantry, but didn’t remember seeing sauce. Ready to heat, or do it yourself? Well, if he didn’t want to be standing all day, he might as well get ready made. And French bread to go with it.
‘Hmm. White or red wine. Maybe I should get that at the liquor store.’
He sucked his breath in as he suddenly remembered Daniel sucking the strawberry jam off his fingers.
Definitely need more jam.
He enjoyed shopping early in the day. Kids were still in school; most of the population was still—
“Excuse me, aren’t you Darren Hayes?”
Darren turned around. A young lady in a pantsuit. Straight brown, shoulder-length hair that ended in a flip. Large round brown eyes, and a perky nose.
But what put Darren on his guard was she had no basket. It was possible she didn’t need much, but still.
“Yes, I am.” He gave her a polite smile. The kind he might give a stranger on the street who was polite enough to acknowledge him
the same way.
“Hi, Christina Mauldin.” She held her hand out.
Darren sighed inside, but shook her hand.
“I’m a great fan, Mr. Hayes, of both you *and* Savage Garden. I was heart broken when you broke up.”
He nodded, and smiled again.
“The reason I stopped you though, was to ask a favor. One of my students, Natalie Walker, recently survived a terrible accident. She’s been left paralyzed from the waist down. She was a great fan of Savage Garden. I think it would be a great help if you could visit her.”
Darren felt his jaw drop. He’d never expected something like this. How old was she?
“You’re a teacher?” He couldn’t hide his surprise.
“Yes I am.” She smiled, and he knew instinctively that she truly enjoyed her work. “Third grade. Boonah State School in Ipswich. But I stopped you for Natalie, Mr. Hayes. She’s been so depressed since the accident. She’s so young. The SPOT team at Princess Alexandra Hospital said she should be able to adapt quickly, because of her age. But she’s heartbroken because she was supposed to be the lead in the class play, and she couldn’t because of the accident. She feels she let everyone down, even though we’ve all told her that’s not the case.”
“SPOT team?”
“Yes, a bit redundant. Spinal Outreach Team. They do excellent work with people who’ve been paralyzed by spinal chord injuries. Like Natalie. I’m hoping that you, and maybe Daniel, could visit her? Maybe encourage her, she’d be more receptive to therapy.”
Darren studied Christina while he considered. ‘Could she be lying?’
Trying to trap them?
‘Do you really think that, Darren?’ He chided himself.
“Well, I’m not sure about Daniel, but I’d be happy to visit her. If you’d write down the information for me, please?”
“Oh, thank you, Mr. Hayes!” She grabbed his hand, and quickly leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Then she blushed. “I’m sorry.”
She became intensely interested in rummaging through her purse, eventually pulling out a small notepad and a pen. She wrote quickly, then tore out the page and handed it to Darren.
“Thank you again, Mr. Hayes.” She smiled sheepishly, the hint of her blush still on her cheeks. “If anything can cheer Natalie, I think it would be you. Her classmates all miss her, and the quicker she pulls out of her depression, the quicker she’ll be back in school.”
“You’re quite welcome.” He returned her smile heartily, as she waved and walked away.
He waved politely, and then looked at the paper she’d given him. Natalie Walker, Children’s Ward, Prince Charles Hospital. He’d have to give them a call when he got back to Daniel’s. Just to be safe.
