"The smile on your face,
I live only to see;
It's enough for me baby,
It's enough for me."

Carrie groaned as something pressing her against the bed caused her to wake up. She smiled, moaning softly as a pair of lips started to kiss along her neck, "Well good morning to you too."
"Mornin'," Kelly drawled against her skin.
Carrie shivered.
"Do you know what today is?"
"Hm..." Carrie thought playfully as Kelly's lips passed along the base of her neck. "It's a day in August, I know that."
"Nope."
"It's not?"
"Well, yea," Kelly quickly pushed herself up, kissing her on the lips softly before going back to her neck. "But that's not what I'm talking about."
"Oh, ok," Carrie giggled. "It's a Tuesday."
"Still not it," Kelly's hands moved under Carrie's shirt.
"It's a great day because I am so about to get some," she raised her hands allowing Kelly to tug off her shirt before wrapping her arms around the Texan, holding her close.
Kelly pressed their lips together gently, "It's the day my album comes out."
"Oh yea...I knew that," Carrie shrugged.
Kelly laughed, kissing her again, "Well, why didn't you say so in the first place?"
"Because I love the way your voice sounds in the morning."
Kelly giggled.
"You know what else I love?"
"What?"
"You."
Kelly smiled, kissing her firmly.
Carrie wrapped her arms around her tighter.
"Yea..." Kelly nodded against her lips. "You are so getting some."

"Cowgirl, what the hell is your problem?" Ashley asked as they walked into the CD store. "You've had that goofy ass grin on your face all morning."
"My girl is so good in bed," Carrie bit her lip, watching Kelly who was walking a few steps in front of them, hunting for her new album.
"Why do I even bother to ask now? Like, seriously..." Ashley shook her head, walking to catch up with Kelly.
Carrie laughed, falling into step with Kate, linking their arms together.
"Still no luck with the 'Cowgirl' thing?" Kate smiled.
"I've given up," Carrie shook her head.
Kate laughed softly.
"So how you been?" Carrie asked curiously. "I haven't gotten a chance to talk to you in a while?"
"Did Kelly put you up to this?" Kate raised an eyebrow.
Carrie smiled as they fell another step or two behind the rest of the group, "No, just asking as a friend."
"I'm good," she nodded.
"That's good," Carrie patted her arm. "You know she's just trying to look out for you, right?"
"I know," she smiled. "She's always been really good for that."
"She really cares about you a lot."
"You sure she didn't put you up to this?"
"She's worried about you," Carrie shrugged. "And I don't like to see her worried."
"I'm fine," Kate assured.
Carrie slowed to a halt.
Kate paused beside her.
"Do you know why she cares so much about you?"
"Because I'm her backup singer, and her band is her friends, and her friends are like family to her?"
"It's more than that."
Kate turned to her.
"You're right, you're in her band, and her band is her friends and her friends are her family. You're right about that, but it's not just that. When we first started...hanging out...she told me all about all of y'all. She was practically bragging about how she has the coolest band in the world. She went down the line and told me about each of y'all and your personalities and your histories, and she told me about you...do you wanna know what she said?"
Kate nodded.
"She said that she had a special place in her heart for you. She said that she looked after you so much because you reminded her of herself...an untarnished version of herself."
"Untarnished?"
Carrie nodded, "Pre-Idol Kelly. Before all the bullshit she's gone through with the music industry the past six or seven years. Before all the mess with the guys she's dated. You remind her of herself back when she was wide-eyed and optimistic about everything."
"Naive?"
"Perhaps," she allowed. "But she said that even though yea, she's learned lessons from it all, she can't help but miss being how she used to be sometimes because everything seemed so much easier then. That's why she looks after you so much...because she doesn't want that to happen to you. She wants things to remain easy for you. She doesn't want you to become jaded. She thinks that if she can teach you the lessons she's learned, then she can keep you from having to go through all the crap that she's gone through. I tried pointing out to her that the fact that she thinks that's possible shows that there is still a huge part of her untouched by everything, but you know how she is...she just laughed."
Kate slid her hands deep into her pockets.
Carrie sighed, "She is really worried about you. I told her that you're fine, and that she should let you handle it on your own because you're a big girl, but I think the fact that you haven't talked to her about it makes her worry even more because she said that isn't like you at all."
"I tried telling her not to worry because everything's fine."
"You know that's not gonna stop her. Once something is in her head, that's it, there's no changing her mind," Carrie reminded. "She's there for you. She wants nothing more than to be there for you when you need, so if you need, can you do me a favor and just let her be there? Please?"
Kate nodded, sniffing back a couple of tears that were threatening to fall.
"Thanks," Carrie gave her arm a gentle squeeze. "Now come on. We should probably make sure she doesn't buy every copy of her new CD and leave her fans with nothing to buy."
Kate laughed softly as they started walking, "She totally would."
"She's selfish, really...if only people knew the real her like we do," Carrie smiled, watching as Kelly signed autographs for a group of kids that was there, buying the album as well. She caught the Texan's eye, watching her face light up even more as her grin widened, proudly showing off the new album.

"I won't let you
Let me down,
So easily."

Carrie walked into the living room to find Kelly sitting by herself on the sofa, turning the CD case for her new album over and over in her hands. She watched her curiously for a moment before walking to her and straddling her lap, "Hey."
"Hey," Kelly smiled, kissing her lightly.
Carrie grinned, pulling her back to her for a deeper kiss.
Kelly allowed a giggle to escape as she pulled back.
Carrie kissed the tip of her nose, "What's up?"
"Nothing," she shrugged.
"You sure?"
"Yea."
"Positive? Because it seems like something's bugging you."
"A little..."
"Talk to me," Carrie urged, her hands soothing over the back of the Texan's neck.
Kelly scrunched her nose.
"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing."
"Kell, I'm your girlfriend. That means you have to talk to me, baby, remember? You've been doing so great with that lately, don't mess that up. Especially since I know how stressed you are with everything going on with the label hassling you about no interviews, and trying to make two albums at once--one for you and one for them--and the album that came out today, and Kate being distant, and Luke leaving, and the stuff with Alex's parents...please don't start cutting me out now."
"Care..."
"I need you to talk to me."
"Really...it's silly."
"So what if it's silly? I still want to know."
"It's my own fault," she shook her head.
"So? You think you making a mistake is going to make me not love you or something?"
She shook her head again.
"Ok, good. So just talk to me, Kell. You have to understand that me loving you as much as I do means that I want to know when something's bothering you, no matter how small or trivial it is. If it's upsetting you, then it's not small to me, ok?"
"I can't help but feel bummed," she finally relented.
"About what?"
"Today."
"But your album came out today."
"I know, that's kinda what I'm bummed about..."
"Why do you feel bummed?" Carrie asked, her fingers now scratching the shorter girl's scalp softly. She smiled as Kelly's eyes started to lightly close.
"I don't know, I just...I'm used to release days being so busy and exciting. You know, rushing from one thing to the next. Radio interviews and photo shoots and talk shows and magazine interviews and just a whole lot of promo."
Carrie nodded, even though Kelly couldn't see her.
"Today though," she sighed. "Today, we got up, went to the store to buy the CD, went out for lunch, and came back...that's it."
"So you feel like today was just another day, nothing special, huh?"
"Yea," Kelly opened her eyes to look at her. "And I know that it's my fault for not wanting to do interviews, so I shouldn't be pouting, but I can't help it."
"No, I get it. I'd probably be the same way if I were in your position."
"I'm starting to think I made a mistake," Kelly admitted carefully.
"With what?"
"The no interviews thing."
"You did it to protect Alex's privacy."
"I know, but at the same time, it isn't really fair to everybody else. I mean, I know I'm always butting heads with the record company, but they did put a lot of money into this project, and it isn't right for me not to do my part in promoting it. And my fans...I have an album out, they want to hear from me, they expect appearances and stuff."
"I'm sure they don't blame you."
Kelly shook her head, "I've gone about it all wrong."
"How else would you have gone about it?"
"I could still do interviews, just tell them not to talk about Alex. I mean, people do that all the time, right? They have like a list of questions the interviewer can't ask?"
Carrie nodded.
"So why didn't I just do that?"
"There was a lot going on, and everything was happening so fast so there could be as much damage control as possible...you made the best decision you could at the time."
"I wish I could change it."
"You still can," Carrie pointed out.
"How?"
"Call Narvel. He's a great manager. I'm sure he can line you up some promo for the next couple weeks, easily."
"Do you think it's a good idea?"
"I think so, yea," she nodded. "It'll give you a chance for some more performances, and I know how much you love that. Plus, it'll just give you something to do so you're not bored out of your mind like I know you've been lately. And I'm sure your band will be happy, poor guys have probably been just sitting around, itching to get back out there. Also, the hospital will probably be thrilled because it'd give you a chance to promote the concert that's coming up, so yea, I think it's a great idea."
Kelly smiled, "Thanks Care."
"Anytime," Carrie kissed her.
"You know, this talking thing..." Kelly smoothed a hand up the country singer's thigh. "It's kinda nice."
"It is," Carrie agreed with a grin.
"I love you," Kelly bit the edge of her bottom lip.
Carrie's heart melted at the softness in her eyes, "I love you too."
"You wanna come lay down and take a nap with me before I call Narvel?"
"Is this a naked nap?"
Kelly's eyes sparked as she smirked, "Totally a naked nap."
"Well, then absolutely," Carrie smiled as Kelly pressed their lips together in a firm kiss. She felt the Texan's hands gripping at her shirt, pulling her closer, deepening the kiss. "Bedroom..." she pulled back to catch her breath. "Now."
Kelly nodded, standing up with her and blindly making her way to her bedroom, her lips firmly attached to Carrie's.
