When I exited the elevator hallway, I didn’t see Gerard anywhere. I approached the front desk and an older, gray haired lady looked up from her computer and smiled.
“May I help you?”
“Yes. I was supposed to meet someone here but I don’t see him anywhere.”
“Is he staying here?”
“Yes ma’am. Gerard Way?” She looked back at her computer and typed in something briefly.
“I’m not supposed to give his information out to anyone.” She cupped her hand over her mouth and lowered her voice to a whisper. “He’s a celebrity.” I couldn’t help but giggle at her behaviour.
“Yes I know. I’m his girlfriend.” I loved the way that sounded, however untrue it was at the moment. The lady didn’t have to know any different though.
“Oh. Well, let me phone his room to verify if you don’t mind.” She gave me a fake smile as she picked up the phone. I knew she didn’t believe me. I rolled my eyes and looked around as I waited. I didn’t stay in the bus that long and I thought for sure Gerard would still be in the lobby when I got there. That’s where he told me to meet him. The lady hung the phone up and looked at me again.
“He isn’t answering his phone.” I huffed and looked down. I didn’t know what to do. I’d never been in a situation like this, and I didn’t know how to convince her that I really did know Gerard.
“I’ll be back.” I turned and went back to the elevators. When one of them slid open, Frank was standing there holding a backpack.
“Thank God you’re here,” I said as he stepped out in front of me. He furrowed his brow in confusion.
“Why? What’s wrong?”
“The lady at the desk doesn’t believe that I know Gerard. He told me to meet him here in the lobby but he’s not here.”
“Okay. I’ll handle it. Don’t worry.” Frank walked past me and over to the front desk.
“Reservation for Frank Iero,” was all he said to the lady. She put his name in the computer and a smile swept across her face. I stepped up next to Frank and he looked over at me.
“She’s with the band,” he said, flicking his head at me as the lady looked between him and me.
“Oh. Yes sir. I’m sorry miss.” I just nodded and flashed a fake smile like she had given me.
“What room is Gerard Way in please?” Frank asked, leaning in a little closer to the desk.
“1213,” the woman said without hesitation. I was pissed. If I was going to be on tour with them for two weeks and we had to stay in anymore hotels, they were going to have to give me some sort of identification so I can go wherever they go so I didn’t run into anymore problems.
“You’ll be staying in the suite next to his Mr. Iero.” She handed him a key and he thanked her. We went back to the elevators and rode to the twelfth floor.
“Thank you for that back there.” I turned to look at Frank as we stood in the elevator. He was looking up at the changing floor numbers.
“No problem. I’ll have to get a pass for you so you won’t have that problem again.”
“That’s what I was just thinking about.” I snickered. The doors slid open and we emerged and turned left down the long hallway. When we arrived at Frank’s door, he put the key in the lock and turned the knob.
“If Gerard doesn’t open the door, can you call him for me or something?”
“Sure. Just knock if you need me okay?” I nodded and thanked him as I walked down to the next door. I heard Frank’s door latch shut as I noticed Gerard’s door was open about two inches. I thought that was very odd. I pushed it open all the way and cautiously stepped inside.
