"You're using me,
Do it slowly
Make it last until I have to go."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hey you," Ashley greeted, nudging Kelly as she joined her on the sofa. "So you're going home tomorrow. Excited?"
"Yea," she nodded, continuing to flip through the channels, trying to find something to watch. Television had never really been her thing, but she was trying her best to distract herself from her own thoughts. "You coming too, or going to L.A., or staying here, or what?"
"Um, I think I might go with y'all," Ashley replied. "I haven't been home home in a while, and I've been promising my mom and them I'd go visit."
Kelly nodded again, "Yea, I should probably plan a weekend trip or something to North Carolina soon. My mom said she's starting to forget what I look like again."
"Tell her to open one of those gossip magazines to the 'stars are just like us' section," Ashley laughed. "You're always in one of those."
"Yea."
"You ok?" she asked, eyeing her curiously. "Something seems off."
"I need a distraction," she replied.
"From what?"
"Stuff," Kelly shrugged.
"Ok," Ashley smiled. "For how long?"
"Tonight," she frowned, looking at the clock, wondering if Carrie had started getting ready for her date yet.
"I have the perfect thing," Ashley grinned.
"Yea?"
"Yea. I was planning on going out with some friends tonight. You wanna join us?"
"Ash, you know you and I have two completely different ideas of what going out means."
"I'm sorry, but I just don't see the point of going out to some hole-in-the-wall bar with like dollar shots. If you want that, just stay at home and drink," she laughed. "Come on. It will be fun. Girls night. Dancing. Drinking. And you seriously look like you could use some drinking right about now."
"Alright," Kelly sighed.
"Really?"
"Yea."
"Can I glam you up?"
"No."
"You never let me have any fun!" Ashley called out as Kelly walked to her room.
"Kell?" Carrie asked as she heard someone on the other end pick up the phone.
"Yea," Kelly replied, rummaging through her clothes, trying to find something to wear.
"I need your help."
"You ok?"
"Um, yea, just having a girl crisis," she explained, sitting on her bed surrounded by several outfits.
"Girl crisis?"
"Yea, can you come over?"
"Don't you have a date tonight?"
"That's part of the crisis," Carrie said. "I'm like freaking out right now."
"Nervous?"
"No...I just...please Kell," she begged.
Kelly sighed, knowing she could never say no, "Alright, I'll be there in a little bit."
"Thank you," Carrie replied, before hanging up.
Kelly let out a deep breath. She felt as if helping Carrie getting ready for her date was probably the last thing she wanted to be doing, she knew she could never turn the girl down once she asked for help. Besides, at least now she wouldn't have to go out with a bunch of ditzes. She loved Ashley to death, but they definitely had different ideas of whom to hang out with.
"So till the morning breaks
Go and make your mistakes
Dont be surprised if your heart hurts
Life is for the living, the forgiven and for leaving town alive."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Care?" Kelly called, finding the front door unlocked.
"I'm up here!" she heard the country singer reply from upstairs.
Kelly shook her head, seriously doubting her decision to come here.
"Hey," Kelly couldn't help but laugh as she found Carrie in her room surrounded by a sea of clothes.
"Help me," she pouted, looking up at her with big pleading eyes that melted the Texan's heart.
"If it was clothes you wanted help with, I think you called the wrong person," Kelly admitted. "This is more Ashley's area of expertise."
"It's not just the clothes," Carrie replied. "It's everything. I think I made a mistake."
"How?"
"I shouldn't have said yes."
"What makes you say that?" Kelly asked, trying to maneuver her way through the maze of outfits to join Carrie where she was sitting on the foot of her bed.
"I don't know," she shrugged. "I mean, I don't even like him. Well, I like him. But not in the way that saying yes to a date insinuates I like him. I just like him like him. Well, not like him like him--"
Kelly put a hand on her arm to stop her. For some reason, she found herself smiling at the confession of Carrie not having feelings for the guy. Or maybe she was just smiling at the fact that she was being completely adorable at that moment.
"Thanks," Carrie took a deep breath, realizing she had been rambling.
"Look," Kelly said. "Michael is a great guy, ok? He's sweet. He has a great job. He's kinda funny. It's just one date. Nothing major. You go out, have fun, get a free meal out of it," she said, making Carrie laugh. "Afterwards, you tell him you just want to be friends."
"You realize how awkward that's gonna be?" Carrie asked. "We have to work with him."
"I know, he's kinda our boss."
"Oh my God," Carrie frowned. "I'm dating my boss."
"Well that's one way to make it to the top, you whore," Kelly teased.
Carrie groaned as she turned, burying her face in Kelly's shoulder.
"It's gonna be fine," Kelly laughed, rubbing her back. "Like I said, he's a great guy. I seriously doubt he'd hold this against you."
"And if he does?" Carrie asked, not looking up.
"He won't," Kelly assured her. "And you never know, you might actually have a good time."
"Doubt it."
"If you go into this with that type of attitude, then it will definitely be awkward afterwards," Kelly commented. "Promise me you'll go into this with an open mind."
"I think I've had too much of an open mind lately," Carrie mumbled. "That's my problem."

"What time he said he was gonna pick you up?" Kelly asked, watching as Carrie hopped around her room, trying to put on her heels.
"Um, seven. What time is it?"
"A quarter till," she replied.
"Do I look ok?" Carrie asked, turning to face the Texan.
"You look great," Kelly smiled. "Almost too great. I mean, you want to let him down gently, not break his heart."
"You think I should change?" Carrie said, worriedly.
"No," Kelly laughed. "I was just joking. You look perfect, ok?"
"I feel like I'm missing something," she frowned, looking into the mirror.
"Necklace," Kelly replied.
"Oo, thanks," she smiled, picking up the silver necklace off the top of her dresser. "Help?"
"Sure," Kelly laughed, walking behind her. Carrie held her hair up as Kelly struggled to hook the tiny silver clasps together while her hands were shaking. "Got it."
"Ok," Carrie sighed, turning to face her. The doorbell resounded throughout the house. "He's early."
"That's a good sign," Kelly replied.
"How?"
"It means he's eager," she grinned.
"Not helping," Carrie replied, hitting her arm playfully.
"You're going to be fine," Kelly assured her.
"What are you doing tonight?"
"Oh no, I'm not being the third wheel."
"Not what I was asking," Carrie laughed.
"Oh, well Ashley wanted me to go out with them, but I'm not really in the mood."
"Well, you're welcome to stay here...if you want."
"Um, without you? Isn't that kinda weird?"
"Well, I mean, it's not like I'm gonna be gone all night," Carrie replied. "And I figured, maybe we could have one more movie night before you go back to Texas, cause I mean, the last one didn't end so greatly."
"What if the date goes really well?" Kelly said, scrunching up her nose. "I so don't want to be here for that."
"I'm not you," Carrie smirked. "I don't sleep with someone on the first date."
"Whatever," Kelly laughed as the doorbell rang again. "You better not keep him waiting. Poor thing's gonna think you stood him up."
"Yea," Carrie nodded, looking at her nervously. "Thanks, um, you know, for helping me tonight."
"No problem," Kelly shrugged.
Carrie hugged her quickly, catching her off guard.
"Oh, ok," Kelly laughed, nervously.
"I'll see you later tonight?"
"Yea, I'll be here."
"Good," Carrie smiled.
