There was a soft knocking on her window, and Kelly laughed as she looked out, seeing Carrie there, hanging on for dear life.
"You know, you could've used the front door," she smiled, opening the window and helping her through.
"I thought you didn't want your mom to know we're going tonight?" Carrie asked, happy for her feet to be on a firm floor once more.
"Yea, but I told her you were staying over," Kelly replied, slipping on a pair of worn out Chucks.
"I think it's time for a new pair of shoes, don't you think?" Carrie laughed.
Kelly raised an eyebrow, looking down at the shoes on her feet, "They look perfect to me."
Carrie's smile faded as she looked down at her own outfit, "I look ok, right? I mean, how do I look?"
"You look like you've never set foot into a bar," Kelly replied honestly.
"Why would it matter if I'd never stepped foot into a bar?"
Kelly just smiled.
"We're going to a bar?" Carrie squeaked. "But...but I've never been to a bar. I'm not even old enough to get into a bar."
"Neither am I," Kelly laughed. "Heck, I wasn't old enough the first time I went to one when I was fifteen, didn't stop me then."
"You went to a bar when you were fifteen?"
"It's not like I was drinking or anything. I just wanted to watch a band. No harm in that."
"How do you get in?"
"I know people," she shrugged.
"You seem to know a lot of people."
"Comes in handy," Kelly nodded.
"So...about this," Carrie said, motioning to her outfit.
"You're trying too hard. Come see," she said. "First. The shirt."
"What about it?" Carrie asked, looking down at her button up blouse.
"You got something under it?"
"A wife bea--" before the words were out, Kelly was unbuttoning Carrie's shirt off and tossing it to the side.
"Better," Kelly nodded as she reached out, tugging Carrie's jeans down a couple inches, revealing a small section of skin. "Much better."
"You sure?" Carrie crinkled her nose as she studied herself in the mirror, watching as Kelly pulled her hair back for her, messily. "It looks like I just woke up."
"And what's hotter than that?" Kelly smiled over her shoulder into the mirror. She hit her hip playfully, "Done."
"Well...I'm definitely more comfortable."
"Which is all that matters," Kelly replied, sitting on her bed.
"So a bar?" Carrie asked, turning to her.
"You'll be fine," Kelly reassured her with a laugh. "Seriously, it's nothing special. Plus, I'll be there. So will Ashley and Jebbie. There's nothing to worry about."
Carrie frowned.
Kelly stood back up, walked over to her, and enveloped her in a warm hug. Carrie melted into the embrace, loving how much affection the shorter girl always managed to put into it.
"What was that for?" Carrie asked as she pulled away.
Kelly shrugged, "You looked like you needed it. Did it help?"
"You give really good hugs...anybody ever tell you that?" Carrie laughed.
"It's a gift," Kelly smiled.

"So what?" Carrie asked as the four of them got out of Jessica's car. "We just walk up to the big security guard and what?"
"Well, first we gotta wait in line," Ashley pointed to the short line to get in.
"How long does that take?"
"It's not bad," Kelly assured her. "Usually about ten...fifteen minutes."
"One day, when Kelly's famous, we won't have to wait in line anymore," Ashley commented.
Kelly laughed, pushing her playfully "And what makes you think I'm gonna drag your ass around with me?"
"Who else are you gonna trust with your make-up?"
"True," Kelly nodded.
"So, what do we do when he asks for our id's?" Carrie questioned nervously.
"He's not going to," Kelly replied.
"But what if someone inside does?"
Jessica shrugged, "I'm old enough to get in. I guess I'll be the ones to bail you guys outta jail."
Carrie's face fell, and Jessica and Ashley laughed.
"Jebbie," Kelly scolded, but couldn't hide her smile. She linked her arm through Carrie's, pulling her to her protectively, her voice lowering so the other two wouldn't hear her reassurance's to the country girl, knowing they'd only give her more flak for it. "Don't worry about it, seriously. I know the guy at the front, and everybody who works here. Nobody's gonna card you or anything. Just stay close to me, ok?"
Carrie nodded, swallowing hard.
"Carrie?"
The taller blonde, turned her head to look at her.
"Relax," Kelly smiled.
Carrie found herself smiling back, unable to help it.

"Hey Joey," Kelly smiled at the large bouncer.
"Hey shorty," he smiled back. "Was wondering when y'all would arrive."
"How'd you know we were coming?"
"Come on now. Kelly Clarkson miss a Toadies concert? Not happening," his eyes landed on Carrie, and his smile faded slightly. "Kelly--"
"She's with us," Kelly replied quickly.
"I don't know," he frowned.
Kelly gave him her best set of puppy dog eyes, "Joey...come on. What's the harm in one more?"
"That's not the problem," he said, pulling her aside.
Kelly motioned for the other three to hurry in. Carrie opened her mouth to protest but Ashley grabbed her arm, dragging her inside.
"She just looks a little wet behind the ears."
"Meaning?"
"Meaning, I don't think this is the type of place for her. I know you can take care of yourself, but I don't think she can."
"Give her one chance," Kelly looked at him hopefully, knowing he'd never say no to that look. He was really just a giant teddy bear.
Joey looked over his shoulder, "Where'd they...they're inside, aren't the--"
"I take full responsibility for her," Kelly assured him as she rushed inside. "Love ya!"
He shook his head, laughing before turning back to the line with a tough face.

"Isn't this great?!" Kelly yelled over the music.
"What?!" Carrie called back.
Kelly leaned up, putting her lips next to Carrie's ear, "Isn't this great?"
Carrie laughed, "Yea."
"Hey, you wanna crowd surf?"
Carrie's eyes got wide.
"One step at a time, huh?" Kelly chuckled. "How about something to drink?"
"Definitely," Carrie nodded, allowing Kelly to pull her out of the tight crowd. "Where's the bathroom?"
"Right over there," Kelly pointed. "I'll get a couple waters."
"Thanks," Carrie smiled, walking away as Kelly hopped up onto a bar stool.
"Hey you," the bartender smiled. "How many?"
"Two," Kelly smiled, holding up two fingers.
He nodded, grabbing two bottles of water out from the ice chest under the bar, waving her off as she went to pull out a couple dollars, "You know better than to even try kid."
Kelly watched as he mixed a drink for a guy down the bar, "When are you going to stop calling me kid?"
"When you stop reminding me of my thirteen year old sister," he teased.
"I'm almost eighteen, you know."
"You're still a kid," he nodded, frowning as he glanced over her shoulder. "You want me to get your friend?"
Kelly turned, seeing a rather large man sliding near Carrie as she exited the bathroom, "No, I can handle it."
"Yell if you need," he called out as she jumped down from the stool, leaving the two waters.

"Let me buy you a drink," the man leered down at her.
"Um, no thanks," Carrie shifted uncomfortably, looking everywhere for Kelly.
"You sure?" he asked, moving to slip his arm around her. "You look like you could use a bit loosening up."
Carrie tried to move away, but he stopped her.
"Excuse me?" Carrie heard a raspy drawl behind her, and she let out a sigh of relief.
"Are we in your way?" he smiled, grabbing Carrie's elbow and pulling her out from in front of the bathroom door.
"No," Kelly shook her head, pulling Carrie to her and placing an arm around her, slipping her hand in her back pocket. Carrie's face flushed. "She's with me."
The man smirked, "Two for the price of one."
"She's seventeen," Kelly shook her head in disgust.
"Even better."
"Ok, how's this, you lay a hand on her again, and I swear to God, I'll castrate you," Kelly glared.
Carrie's jaw dropped at the fire in her eyes as the man scowled, "Whatever bitch."
Kelly watched, making sure he walked away before turning Carrie to her, "You ok?"
"Yea," she nodded as Kelly brought her hands to her arms, rubbing them comfortingly.
"Sorry bout that. He's just a creep."
"I could've never done that," Carrie admitted, gazing at her admiringly.
Kelly laughed, "There's just a few things you need to learn, and you'll be fine. One, don't leave my side again."
"Deal."
"Two, you've got to be tougher. Doesn't matter if you're scared, put them in their place before they even have a chance of thinking they got you, ok?"
"Ok...and what about...um...what you said...about us."
Kelly grinned, "If you can somehow convince them you aren't straight, when they scurry back to their buddies, they'll tell them it's a waste of time, and you won't have to worry about the rest of them either."
Carrie nodded.
"You sure you ok?"
"Yea...just a little bit shaky..."
Kelly smiled softly, wrapping her in a hug.
Carrie let herself relax, whispering a "thanks" in her ear.
"No problem," Kelly replied, pulling back. "Now come on. We're missing the show."

"That was so much fun," Carrie said, still breathless from their night out as she and Kelly lay side by side in the small bed.
"See," Kelly laughed. "You were scared for nothing."
"I wouldn't say nothing," she shook her head. "Did you see that guy? He was huge."
"And smelled like he hadn't bathed in a week."
Carrie giggled, "Week and a half easily."
"I'm sure y'all's children will be beautiful."
"Shut up," Carrie laughed, nudging her playfully.
"Don't make me kick you out the bed," Kelly warned, giggling.
Both girls took a deep breath as they settled down.
"Can I ask you something?" Kelly asked after a moment of silence.
"Would I stop you if I said no?"
"Not really."
"Ok, go," Carrie smiled.
"Why am I the only one you open up with?"
"What do you mean?"
"I'm the only person I've seen you relax around. Why?"
"I don't know," Carrie shrugged, looking up at the ceiling. "I'm just really shy I guess."
"Not with me," Kelly pointed out.
"I guess I trust you."
Kelly nodded, chewing on her bottom lip.
"Go ahead," Carrie laughed softly, knowing she wasn't finished yet.
"Why?"
It was Carrie's turn to nod, "You remember that first day we met when you were supposed to be showing me around?"
"Yea."
"I upset you when I made that comment about your dad, and you took off?"
"Yea, I'm still sorry about that by the way," Kelly apologized. "Does Mr. Johanson still give you a hard time for being late?"
"I swear he waits until the exact moment when I zone out to ask me a question."
"How do teachers do that?"
"I don't know," Carrie giggled before growing serious again. "But that day...you came back. I knew I had hurt you on some level, despite barely knowing you, and you came back. You had no reason to. You could've just let me fend for myself, but you didn't. That really meant a lot to me."
"I had promised to show you around," Kelly shrugged. "I don't go back on my word."
"I know," Carrie nodded. "Which is why I trust you and am comfortable around you....plus you're way dorkier than me, so, you make me feel good about myself."
"Shut up," Kelly laughed.
