AN: Haha, Ero, I LOVE getting up to some shenanigans! I get into them all the time! Shenanigans is my favorite word, believe it or not. I HATE ZOMBIES SO MUCH!!!! We need to have a Zombie plan. Sheesh. And you're a real writer now. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Pluska, I'm so glad you're enjoying this!
I stirred first in the morning. I yawned and went to roll over. To my surprise, I wasn’t laying alone in my bed as I normally was. Rather, I was lying on top of something. Or someone. I opened one eye a crack and saw Johnny lying beneath me.
He was dead asleep, his head turned to the side, snoring lightly. His arms were around my waist, and one leg was tangled in through mine. I suddenly remembered everything that had happened the night before.
“Johnny?” I whispered, stroking his face. “Johnny?”
“Mmph! I want whipped cream, not sour cream!” he muttered, opening his eyes. “Oh, hi Charity.”
“Hi there,” I smiled. I loved it when people were really slow in the morning. It makes for so many evil plots. “I think it’s time for us to be awake.”
“Oh, but I was so warm and comfortable.” He groaned. I patted his head.
“Yeah, well, go to bed. I need to go and get some coffee and a newspaper.” I slid off him.
“But I get the paper delivered here, and I can make you some hot coffee.” He reached for my hand. I gently shook him off.
“I don’t want the kids to know I slept here overnight.” I whispered. I didn’t want them to wake up. Besides, it only seems fitting that one should whisper in the early morning. The world seems too still for loud voices.
“Why not? They’re too young to think anything happened. Which it didn’t anyway.” He added hastily.
“Because it gives off the wrong impression. And you haven’t even told them their mom isn’t coming. They’re old enough to know that parents share a bed, not nannies and daddies.” I picked up my shoes and slipped them on. I wanted to go home and get a shower, but I knew I wouldn’t have time.
I crept out of the house and headed down the driveway towards the gas station.

Johnny went upstairs, rubbing his eyes and yawning as he went. He made it to his door and was shocked to see a little lump huddled under a pink fuzzy blanket. Gently, Johnny knelt down next to the lump and pulled the blanket back.
Lily-Rose was curled up in her Minnie Mouse pajamas. Her hair was tangled, and her cheeks were pink. Johnny pressed the back of his hand to her forehead, but didn’t feel any fever. He bent and picked her up.
“Daddy? Where did you go in the middle of the night? I woke up because I had a bad dream. But your door was closed, and there was only a strange woman downstairs who told me you left. She said she was the baby sitter, but she wasn’t Charity. So I came to wait for you in front of the door, but you never came.” Lily-Rose sounded near hysterical.
“I’m so sorry, baby. I went out to see someone and fell asleep on the couch.” He took her to bed and laid her down. She snuggled up to him.
“Do you want to tell me what you dreamed about?”
“I dreamed that you and Maman left me.”
“Left you where?” Johnny asked, stroking his daughter’s hair.
“Just alone. You told me that you didn’t want me anymore, and you both walked away. And no matter how fast I ran, I couldn’t catch up to you. I couldn’t get you to come back and change your mind. So I was all alone.” She wiped at her eyes.
“You know that Maman and I would never do that, don’t you?” he brushed away the tears himself.
“I know that you wouldn’t.” Lily-Rose said carefully.
“And neither would Maman.”
“Yes she would. She already did, Daddy.” The little girl shook her head. “She sent us here all by ourselves, and she hasn’t come to be with us. I don’t think she loves me anymore. Or Jack. Or you.”
“That’s not true.” About the first two, Johnny didn’t say out loud. He swallowed. His daughter was getting dangerously close to figuring out the truth. This was not the way he wanted her to know.
“It is true, Daddy. I know it’s true.” She insisted.
“Come on, baby. You’re tired.” He made his voice as soothing and pacifying as possible. “Why don’t you and I have a little sleep before Charity comes over to make us breakfast?”
Lily-Rose obediently lay down, pulling Johnny’s comforter up high to her chin. He laid down behind her, humming gently. Soon, she was asleep. He sighed. Could life get any harder?

“Charity!” Jack opened the door for me. I scooped up the little boy and kissed his cheek.
“Good morning! Is Daddy awake?”
“Not yet.” He shook his head.
“Yes, I am.” Johnny appeared, carrying Lily-Rose. I smiled at him and felt myself turning red. I couldn’t quite look him in the eye. He put down his daughter.
“Charity---.”
“Why don’t I just go and make the kids dinner?” I cut him off.
“Because it’s nine thirty in the morning.” He was smirking at me.
“Breakfast then!” I hurried into the kitchen and busied myself with pulling out stuff to make scrambled eggs. I turned around and Johnny was suddenly behind me. I almost dropped the egg carton. He had the grace to look embarrassed as I put a hand to my pounding heart.
“Don’t DO that!”
“I’m sorry!”
I made to step around him the same time he made to step around me. We did that little dance where you both try to go the same direction for a few seconds before I finally stopped and angrily gestured for him to get around me. I hurried to the stove and begin cracking eggs.
“Look, Charity, I really need to talk to you about what happened last night.” Johnny began.
“Shouldn’t you go and make sure the kids are okay?” I blurted. He looked at me for a second before heading out to the living room. I turned back to the pan, trying to get my heart beat to return to normal.
