Author's comment: This used to be my favorite story and the one I thought was written best :P Now my favorite one is Blurry Days :) But this vampire story is still precious to me. It is Kyo-centered, but I pity Kaoru more... And the most weird thing is that Blurry Days is also Kyo-centered, but up until now I only feel sorry for poor Kaoru -_-
Wonder why the hell that happened yet again? ... O_o
CHAPTER 15
Kyo wanted to get out of the hospital. Even if there was nothing waiting for him out there, he needed to get out. He was sick of the white room and of all the curious and pitying looks. He just wanted to be left in peace.
He had counted every day he spent there – nineteen days. Nineteen lonely and very sad days. Kyo was left to his thoughts all the time, without a TV or even a newspaper to keep his mind elsewhere. Nobody visited him of course. At first Kyo was sure that Kaoru would definitely come, but he didn’t. Later Kyo gave it a thought and understood that perhaps this was what Kisaki wanted by doing this to Kyo. Kisaki said that Kaoru would lose interest in him if Kyo couldn’t fuck… And his words were true. Kaoru didn’t show up at all.
Kyo didn’t want to admit to himself, but there was a very tiny bit of himself that missed Kaoru. They did have some pleasant moments… But Kyo now felt relieved that Kaoru was gone. Yes, he missed Kaoru’s company a bit, but Kaoru’s absence as if lifted a heavy burden off Kyo’s shoulders. He now was no longer in danger. He now was free of all of them. With Kaoru gone, all the rest of them were gone as well.
Kyo sighted and turned his head to look out of the window. It was snowing already. The winter has come and it was now getting dark so soon. Kyo itched for a cigarette today. But he decided to quit. After all, he hasn’t been smoking for almost a month now. It was a good opportunity to end this habit for good.
I need a new beginning… Or at least a decent end…
He was singing out from the hospital today. He was waiting for that moment and dreading it as well. Because he will have to think about the future.
Kyo sighted again and closed his eyes for a moment. He had even considered killing himself in those very dark, depressing nights, when all the hope seemed to have been sucked away from him. What else was there for him? Nothing whatsoever…
But when mornings came, he breathed easier and found at least a few tiny things to be happy about. His poems. And his voice. And the mare fact of living. Because he will die someday. And he will know what it is like to be dead. But he will never have another opportunity to live. And Kyo wanted to live. He wanted to be happy so much that it hurt. He had suffered enough and when he thought there was nothing worse that could happen to him, it happened. And it brought him to his knees and made him think of just giving up.
But with the light of the morning the tiny sparkle of hope appeared again, making him hope and think and dare to dream of a happier, more meaningful life someday.
There had to be something better destined for him. There had to be. Because if there wasn’t, he would quit fighting right now. He would jump from the hospital’s window and splatter his insides on the pavement because he would not bare more. He couldn’t imagine what else, even more painful and unfortunate, might happen to him.
So he had to hope for the best. He just had to.

Shinya looked at Kisaki’s back as he strolled after him leaving his footsteps in the thick snow. Kisaki wanted Shinya’s company that night and Shinya felt that he had to accept the offer. It’s been a while since he agreed to go with Kisaki for a walk and it was time already to do so not to anger him.
“Tell me, Shinya, are you happy?”
“Yes, of course I am” Shinya answered and caught up with Kisaki. He was now side by side with him.
“Your body soaked in the stray dog’s stench so much that it seems not to go away any more.”
Shinya kept on walking silently, listening as snow crunched under his feet. He didn’t say anything to that comment, feeling even a bit annoyed that Kisaki never called Die by his name.
“How can you stand it?”
“I love Daisuke. And for me his body’s smell is more than pleasant.”
Kisaki chuckled and turned to look at Shinya sideways.
“My baby Shinya has found a lowly stinky human for a company and for a good fuck… But it seems that you let him fuck you more often than the other way around.”
“It makes no difference for me. And please, Kisaki, could we drop this subject? I love Die and I want to be with him forever.”
Shinya looked Kisaki in the eyes and Kisaki smiled a bit. It was not a kind smile, but it was not a grin or a sneer either.
“I guess I have to give up someday of trying to change your mind. I honestly thought that you will get bored of that little shit someday.”
“I won’t. And please, could you call him by his name?”
“I could… for a little kiss from you” Kisaki pulled out a wry face. Shinya turned his gaze away from Kisaki and Kisaki laughed.
“You’re so pitiful, Shin-chan! You can’t even kiss me?!”
“I would if you demanded, but not on my free will. You know I love Die so much that I could do anything for him. So I could never cheat on him in any way.”
“How stupid!” Kisaki laughed but dropped the subject. They were always talking about the same things since Die appeared, so it was nothing new to Shinya. Kisaki always loved trying to make Shinya despise Die, but Shinya never did. And by time Shinya was already brave enough to speak his mind to Kisaki. And Kisaki, for some strange, twisted reasons, loved these little conversations. And especially he loved degrading Die in front of Shinya.
“How quiet and still the night is…” Kisaki mused loudly, looking at the sky. “Only the sky full of stars and the silent, cold, white night…”
Shinya looked around and smiled a bit. Yes, the night was beautiful. It made him a bit easier in his heart. They still had problems with Kaoru, but they were getting better. For Shinya it seemed that things were improving. Slowly, but steadily.
Suddenly Kisaki stopped and looked ahead. Shinya also stopped. At first it seemed that there was nothing or nobody ahead, but after a couple of minutes he sensed it as well. It was far away, but the appealing smell was slowly reaching his nostrils as well.
“Hmm…” Kisaki’s face turned in a cruel grin. “It seems that I’ll have a delicious peace of a blond, tall, muscular and plainly lustful virgin tonight for myself.”
Shinya tried not to show his surprise. He should be used by now, but he never was prepared to witness Kisaki’s power. He just smelled the sweet smell of virgin blood. How could Kisaki see all of other things was a mystery to him.
“You can go now” Kisaki suddenly said, turning to Shinya. “I will go, have some fun. Goodnight, Shin-chan.”
Shinya just managed to nod and Kisaki was gone. Only his footsteps in the snow remained. Shinya wrapped himself tighter in his coat and turned back. Daisuke was waiting for him and worrying. And he was not going to make Die wait more than it was necessary.

Toshiya made himself comfortable, putting his head on Miyavi’s firm stomach, his legs dangling over the side of the sofa. He felt as Miyavi put his hand in Toshiya’s hair and started gently caressing him. Toshiya looked up at Miyavi’s face and smiled.
Suddenly he heard Die grumble in annoyance and turned his head to look at him. Die sat on the sofa opposite of him, looking lonely and annoyed.
“Oh, just stop being a big, chubby baby, Die. He will be back soon” Miyavi teased and got a glare back from Die.
“I’m not fucking fat” Die shot back and turned to look at the window. They were at Miyavi’s place, on the first floor. As it was a bright and beautiful night, the curtains were drawn back so that the little garden covered with snow would be seen. Die sighted, wishing that Shinya would already be back.
“Maybe we should watch a movie…” Toshiya suggested, but immediately got a nudge from Miyavi. “What?” Toshiya asked looking at his lover.
“Don’t put ideas into his head. Because we’ll be forced to watch that same shit again!”
Toshiya chuckled and glanced at Die.
“Be calm, guys” Die just said, looking a bit amused. “I’m not in a mood for a movie now. But ‘Groundhog’s Day’ is not a shit. It’s the coolest movie on earth!”
“Yeah, yeah” Miyavi sneered. “Because it’s like about our lives, ‘cause in a way we’re re-living the same day every day. Blah blah blah! I’ve heard this bullshit so many times that if I’ll hear it again, I swear, I’ll go nuts!”
“Shinya also thinks it’s a good movie” Die reasoned.
“Whatever” Miyavi said. They fell silent, looking at the snow slowly falling down outside. Suddenly Die sat up straight and looked at the doors. Soon Shinya entered, his hair wet and dripping with water from the snow. He took off his coat and shoes.
“Hi, guys” Shinya smiled. Die stood up and fetched him a towel from somewhere. Shinya sat on the sofa with Die and let Die mop his wet hair.
“Is it better?” Die asked, finally putting the towel aside.
“Yes, thank you” Shinya smiled and kissed Die on the lips.
“How was your walk with Kisaki?” Toshiya asked.
“As usual” Shinya replied, not wanting to tell the details. But he didn’t need to, because they knew more or less what usually Kisaki wanted to do when he went out with Shinya.
“Has Kaoru come back already?” Shinya asked, but he already had a pretty good idea that the answer was no.
“He’ll be back soon. He takes more time now to feed, but he’ll be back quite soon” Die said and made Shinya lean into him. He hugged Shinya’s slim waist, feeling Shinya’s back press to his chest. “Kaoru needs some time to come into terms with the new situation.”
“But…” Shinya stopped for a moment, looking at how Toshiya lie comfortably in Miyavi’s lap, looking relaxed and sleepy. “I’m afraid that he’ll go to see him again…”
“He won’t, Shin-chan” Toshiya answered. “He knows that too much is at stake if he does that. We’re more important to him. We’re his family.”
Shinya lowered his head and Die sensed how concerned his lover was.
“Tell us what’s on your mind, Shin-chan” he encouraged Shinya.
“I’m not surprised that Kaoru doesn’t want to spend time with us. We’re all cuddly. We’re usually making out in front of each other as we’re used to each other by now and it’s not something to be uncomfortable or ashamed of. But… but it must make Kaoru feel very lonely…”
Shinya felt how Die’s hold on him tightened.
“But what can we do about it?” Die asked. “Kaoru wanted the whore, but Kisaki obviously won’t even consider that. Kaoru just has to accept it. There’s no other alternative.”
“But it’s not fair… It’s just not fair…” Shinya whispered, feeling very sad. “Kaoru does everything like he was a zombie or something like that. He just sleeps, feeds and makes a simple conversation with us. But there’s no happiness in him anymore.”
“It will come back with time” Die said. “You’ll see.”
Shinya didn’t say anything more. There was nothing to say. Any of them could do nothing to help Kaoru. And there really was no other alternative just to suffer through it. But he hated seeing Kaoru sad. He hated it so much.
Shinya fell silent as suddenly Kaoru entered the room, also covered in snow and wet all over. The silence immediately fell in the room. Kaoru undressed himself, took of his shoes and only then turned to look at the people in the room.
“I’m sorry it took me so long” Kaoru said. “I know you’ve been waiting for me.”
“It’s ok. Shinya also just came back not long ago” Miyavi smiled. “Well, as we’re all here, I think we can do something together this time. It’s been a long time since we’ve all been in the same room.”
Kaoru smiled, but for Shinya the smile seemed to be fake. He knew that the other three also saw the same. Kaoru went to sit on the sofa and immediately lit himself a cigarette.
“Are you ok, Kaoru-kun?” Toshiya asked. He suddenly came to sit next to Kaoru and Kaoru looked at him confused.
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
Toshiya leaned down and put his head on Kaoru’s thighs. Kaoru smiled down at him and put out his almost full cigarette. He caressed Toshiya’s head gently and Toshiya closed his eyes.
“I’ll light the fireplace” Miyavi suggested. “You must be cold, Kaoru-kun.”
Kaoru nodded, still looking at Toshiya.
“What is it, Totchi?” he asked. “Why are you so clingy all of a sudden?”
“I just missed you, Kaoru. And I want you to be happy…”
Kaoru suddenly felt the urge to cry, but managed to hold the tears in. It was no good in showing them how weak and powerless he truly felt these days. He was the oldest of them all. He was their shore of safety. He had no right to disappoint them. It was his duty to protect them. If not for them… If it was only his life and wellbeing at stake, he would have gone to Kyo weeks ago…
“How’s your work progressing?” Die stirred Kaoru from his thoughts and Kaoru looked up. “Have you written more songs?”
“Yeah, a couple of them… I’ll need to work more. I’ve been neglecting music for some time now…”
“Me and Shin-chan have some new material for you.”
“Thanks.”
“You don’t need to thank us” Shinya said. “It’s our addition to the budget” he smiled.
“How about you, lazy ass” Kaoru asked Toshiya, who was dozing in his lap. Toshiya cracked one eye open and giggled.
“Why do I need to work? Myvs does all the work and I just get all I need by being cute and charming.”
“And slutty!” Miyavi added, currently kneeling in front of the fireplace. Kaoru slapped Toshiya on the head playfully and scolded.
“Have some dignity. Don’t sell yourself for sex!”
Kaoru’s smile faded out immediately. He suddenly pushed Toshiya off his lap and stood up.
“I’ll go take a hot shower. I’m still too cold.”
He vanished in another room and closed the door behind himself. Toshiya looked pleadingly at Miyavi and his lover dropped what he was doing and came to Toshiya, hugged him and let Toshiya hide his face in his lover’s embrace.
Shinya sighted and turned to look out the window. He heard Die lit a cigarette and soon the smell of smoke reached his sensitive nostrils.
***
Kyo looked at the snow falling down outside. He sighted and turned his back to the window. He couldn’t sleep. It was very comforting to come back home, but the feeling of safety was false. Kyo didn’t feel safe anywhere now. He should just leave Kyoto for good.
He paid so much for the treatment at the hospital that only less than half of what he had was left to him. He had to forget the stupid thoughts of studying. He should do everything he could to find some other job. Maybe he could be hired as a boy who opened the hotel doors if he managed to cover all his tattoos. Or maybe he could just clean the streets. Anything sounded appealing to him now. There was no way he was going back on streets. He would die of shame if he let people, especially the scum that usually fucked him, see him like he was now…
Kyo whimpered in displeasure. He still couldn’t get used to the sight between his legs. His dick now just looked plainly stupid and funny, hanging all alone between his thighs. Kyo tried to make himself horny. He tried so hard, but failed. Of course I failed… but… But he just had to try and see for himself. He had to try and see what it felt like for real not being able to get horny. Not being able to make his dick hard.
In the end it turned out to be a disappointing tryout. His dick just hung looking stupid. It would never be as it was.
Kyo hated himself the moment he felt the tears gathering in his eyes again.
What the fuck should I do?! Why did this happen to me? Why?
Kyo shut his eyes tightly and gripped the sheets with his hands. It was not fair. He didn’t know how to deal with it. He felt so lost and so scared. He didn’t know what to do. And he didn’t have anyone to turn to.
A knock on the doors echoed in his silent apartment, making Kyo jump from unexpectedness of it. Kyo tensed and listened. He couldn’t have heard a knock on the doors. He must be hearing things…
The knocking repeated itself again and Kyo sat in bed. He looked at the dark corridor in front of him, scared and confused. Could it be Kaoru? But…
Somebody knocked for the third time and Kyo stood up and headed to the doors. If it’s Kaoru then so be it… He was tired of fighting for himself anymore.
Kyo took in a breath and opened the doors. But it wasn’t Kaoru. Kyo looked with wide eyes at the person in front of him, thinking he must be dreaming. But the person did not vanish. He was here, standing right in front of him, alive and breathing.
“It’s you” Kyo said in a weak voice. The person stepped inside the room and closed the doors, because it still kept snowing and Kyo stood at the doorway only in his pajama pants.
“Hello Kyo-kun” the man smiled. “I have missed you.”
