Chapter 15: Make It Better
"What about right here?" David asked and Andy looked up and walked over to him and started to look around the snow covered ground. Ethan walked up to them and handed her long thin pole and she hit the ground with it. Ethan shook his head as she did it again just to double check.
"We're too close to the edge. You hear that?" She said to David as she hit the ground again and he heard a loud clunk.
He nodded and she started to explain, "That's ice. It may be supporting us now, but if we camp near here the weight could give out. We gotta move away from it."
Alex, Brian, Lynn, and Angel watched from the parking lot as the three of them started to look for a nice camping spot for tomorrow. Ethan brought the poles so that way they could mark where they were going to place their tents.
Everyone met at Andy and Ethan's rented town home earlier. One reason, so that Andy could dress properly for the weather. But just when they were about to leave, when an older couple walked up to them and introduced themselves.
Andy and Ethan smiled and shook their hands. They were the couple that they were renting the town house from. Ethan and Andy told them that they did have some friends over but they never had any crazy parties.
The couple just laughed and told them that it was fine, they just didn't want anything damaged. Andy and Ethan smiled and Andy told them that they were going to restock the shelves in the kitchen. The couple just waved it off and told them that they were rarely here and that this was just their rental property. They apologized for leaving early and it was the best friends' turn to wave them off telling them that they understood.
They said their byes and the couple told them that they would see them on the day they would leave to pick up the keys. They shook each others hands again and went their separate ways.
Now the four of them were watching the other three and Angel looked at Lynn and saw that she was deep in thought. She nudged her and her best friend looked her way, "You seem to be far away. What's going on?"
Alex and Brian looked at her too. Lynn took a deep sigh and started to tell them about the events of last night and this morning.
"Wendy what did you do?" Andy asked for the second time.
"Okay, okay," Wendy took in a deep breath and started to talk again. "Vicki got into contact with me the other day asking me if I knew that you were in Boston, because she saw you at her work."
"Uh huh." At this point Andy put Wendy on speaker so Lynn could hear what was going on.
"I told her yes, that you were up there on vacation and seeing about a girl. But I didn't tell her who because I didn't know if she knew who Lynn was. Anyway, she said that she gave you her number but she never heard from you."
"Yeah, because she wrote it on my hand and I washed it off. Took a while but I got it off. Since I want nothing to do with her anyway."
"That's what I thought. So we continued to talk and I mentioned Daniel and she gave me her condolences."
"Yeah we saw her tonight. Apparently she has two jobs and she mentioned she talk to you."
"Fuck! Okay this is the part where you can't get mad."
"Wendy stop beating around the bush."
"Okay, okay, I guess I was just going with the flow and I gave her your number." Andy closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, held it for a moment and then let it out.
She opened them back up, "Do you have her number?"
"Yeah, she gave it to me just after I gave her yours."
"I'm going to send you a number and I need you to tell me if it's hers or not."
"Okay." Andy looked through her phone and sent her sister the number that kept popping up.
"I sent it."
"Okay, hold on." They heard some rustling and then Wendy's voice came back on, "Yeah that's her phone number. Please don't be mad. I don't know what I was thinking. I was caught up in the moment. I thought she might have changed. I mean it's been nine years. I thought she would have matured at this point. Plus she's married and I think she said that she has kids now."
"Yeah? Well that didn't stop her from touching my shoulder at least four times tonight, and wanting me to hang out with her before I leave Boston. It's the same thing she did nine years ago. Asking me to hang out and telling me that I look good, and all that bullshit." Andy sighed and shook her head. She knew her sister meant well and she couldn't stay mad at her.
"Look, Wendy, like you said you were caught up in the moment and you gave her my number. I'll call the cell company tomorrow to have it blocked."
"You can do that on your own though."
"I know, but it'll just be easier if I do it that way. You know what she can do. She found a way to get into contact with me before."
"Yeah, you're right. Again, I'm sorry."
"It's okay, I'll handle it in the morning, but thank you for telling me."
"You're welcome. I'll see you when you get home. Happy New Year, I love you."
"Happy New Year, I love you too." Andy hung up her phone and looked at Lynn, "Well we know who it is now." Andy scoffed and shook her head, tossing her phone on the bed.
She walked over the window and looked out onto the street and watched as the snow glistened under the street lights. She put her hands on her hips and shook her head one more time.
Lynn came up behind her and put her arms around her waist and kissed the back of her neck. Which sent a small shiver down Andy's spine in a good way though. Andy turned around and wrapped her arms around Lynn and kissed her forehead.
They stood like that for a few more minutes just enjoying the skin contact for the second time that night. "Come on, let's get ready for bed." Lynn said in a whisper and Andy nodded.
It didn't take them long to get dressed into their pajamas and Lynn couldn't help but smile when she saw Andy in the clothes that she got her.
"What?" Andy asked as she turned around and helped Lynn pull back the covers of her bed.
Lynn shook her head, "Nothing, I just didn't think you would look good in pajamas." Andy laughed and they both got into bed. Andy put her arm around Lynn and she snuggled up to her.
"Are you going to teach me a thing or two about camping in the winter tomorrow?" Lynn asked looking up at Andy.
She smiled and looked back at her, "Only if you want to. Y'all said it was by the bay right?" Lynn nodded.
"So it's near water," she said mostly to herself, "We gotta watch out for ice, because even though it's frozen over, and the snow is pretty deep, the ice can crack and we don't know how deep the water will be. Plus, well winter." Again it seemed that she was talking to mostly herself. She heard Lynn laugh and she looked at her again, "What?"
"I just noticed when you try to figure something out you talk to yourself."
Andy laughed, "I do that?"
Lynn nodded.
"Huh? Well I guess I never noticed it before."
"You think out loud, it's kinda cute."
Andy pulled her closer and kissed her forehead. Lynn closed her eyes when she felt her soft lips against her skin. She let out a sigh and then rolled away from Andy and turned off her lamp. She rolled back over and gave Andy a good night kiss. It didn't take long for the two of them to fall fast asleep.
"Then this morning I woke up to breakfast in bed." Lynn said with a smile.
"So it's been Vicki this whole time?" Alex asked.
Lynn nodded, "Yeah. While I was eating she made the phone call to the cell phone company and then called her sister. She had the cell phone company block Vicki's number. Oh and apparently Vicki sent her a friend request. Which I watched Andy block her on all of her social media."
"Wait, you watched her?" Brian asked.
"Well, she sat on the end of my bed and I kind of peaked over her shoulder and watched her do it." Lynn explained.
"Here's what I don't get," Angel said returning her gaze to now just Ethan and Andy talking and David walking up to them.
"They haven't seen each other in nine years right?"
The trio nodded.
"Okay, now I get wanting to catch up and everything but, why go through all the trouble of contacting her sister and trying to add her on social media? I mean clearly she should have gotten the hint when Andy never called or even tried to get into contact with her."
Lynn shrugged, "I don't know. From what she told us it was a bad break up. Maybe Vicki never really got her closure?"
David walked up to them and shook his head, "Well, I seem to suck at this." He said and leaning against the hood of the Jeep and watched Ethan and Andy start to put the poles into the ground.
"What happened?" Alex asked taking a sip of his coffee.
David shook his head, "Every time I found a spot there was always ice. No matter how far away I would try to get away from it."
Lynn gave him a small smile and went over to him and wrapped her arm around his waist, "At least you tried."
He smiled and put his arm around his little sister's shoulders, "But those two know what they're talking about. I didn't understand half of what they said. I told them that I'm gonna leave it to them."
"Good idea," Brian said with a nod and they all laughed and continued to watch Ethan and Andy.
"Okay, wait, what do you mean Wendy gave Vicki your number?" Ethan asked as he stuck a pole into the ground and it went through.
"Vicki got into contact with her I guess that day we went to lunch after the trio did their tour announcement." She was a few feet away from him checking the distance and she looked at his pole and lined it up.
"Of all the places to run into my first fiance it had to be Lynn's hometown." She said looking up at him and they started to walk in step with each other measuring out the distance.
"By the way, I couldn't help but notice you never came home last night." He said with a smirk and Andy picked up some snow and started to pat it down. She threw the snowball at him and he laughed.
"But seriously, details!" He looked at her then, they both looked at their poles and back at each other and nodded. They stuck the poles into the ground and started to walk towards each other.
"It got intense pretty quick, but something was stopping me. She told me that when we started to take off our shirts she was getting scared. So I guess I picked a good stopping point. Plus I haven't been with anyone since Nicole and you know I don't believe in one night stands, or random hook ups." They met in the middle and turned their backs to each other.
"So what? First base?" He asked still smirking and they started make a circle with their backs still to each other.
Andy shrugged, "I guess you could say that. Only things that were exposed were our abdomens."
"Oooo, look at you with the fancy words." He laughed and he felt her elbow in the his back.
"Shut up Ethan. Fuck, those two are off," she said pointing at the two farthest away from them.
Ethan looked, "Not by much though." He looked back at the others who were just watching them do their thing.
"Do you think they're wondering what the fuck we're doing?" He asked.
Andy laughed, "More than likely. I mean come on we just stood in the middle of six poles three on each side and made a circle with our backs to each other."
They reached the two poles and they readjusted them. They looked at each other and then back at their alignment. She nodded to him and he nodded back. They walked back to the center and started all over again.
"What the fuck are they doing?" Brian asked as he watched the two with their backs to each other and started to take steps making a circle. They others shrugged and were just confused. When they were done for the second time Ethan went over to the small tree and grabbed some more of the small poles and gave some to Andy.
"I think they're trying to figure out where the water and the land meet. Then, pre making the holes for the tents." Angel said and everyone looked at her.
She looked up from her phone, "What? I just looked it up." They all shook their heads and heard a car pull up. Everyone's head turned when they saw Kara walking up to them.
"Happy New Year guys," she said with a smile and they returned her greeting. She looked out and saw Andy and Ethan placing the poles in the ground.
"Everything okay?" Alex asked. They knew that if Kara was there then something was up.
Kara sighed, "I'm not sure. Andy's been getting attention."
"What do you mean?" Angel asked looking concerned.
Kara shook her head, "Well, her name isn't out there but the pictures that you all have been posting have been getting a LOT attention. Also, some magazines and news outlets want to know who Lynn's 'mystery' woman is. Plus a couple of women came forward claiming that they're exes of Andy's. When I asked who they were, they wouldn't give me their names. Only to ask Andy about certain things."
She looked back at Ethan and Andy who were just finishing up. Then she looked back at everyone.
"Did she mention anything about getting back together with anyone?" Kara asked and they all shook their head.
"Her ex fiance lives in Boston now. But Andy said that she wants nothing to do with her. They had a bad break up." Brian said and Kara nodded. Andy and Ethan walked up to them but Andy was on the phone and walked right past them.
Everyone looked at Ethan confused and he just shrugged and shook his head, "Hey Kara." He said with a smile that she returned.
"Ethan, has Andy ever mentioned getting back together with an ex in the last six months or so?" She asked him.
He shook his head, "Not in the last six months. I mean if you would have asked me about two years ago, I would have said yes. But no, she's been all about Lynn to be honest. Why?"
Kara repeated what she just said to everyone else and he crossed his arms listening to what she had to say. When she was finished he looked over at Andy who was pacing back and forth in the parking lot. He knew that when Andy was with someone she was loyal. She never strayed, not once. She was the committed type and would never let someone else in.
"Can I take a guess about one of them?" He asked and Kara nodded, "Look up a Nicole Mariah Dawson. She might be one of them. That's her recent ex, from what I've been hearing from our mutual friends her relationship with her new boyfriend isn't going so well."
"Noted, thank you. The other one said to ask Andy about Michigan."
Brian, Angel, and Lynn all looked at each other with wide eyes. Ethan scoffed and shook his head, "Seriously, that bitch too?! Wow! She can't let go can she?!"
"So you know about her too?" Brian asked.
Ethan nodded, "Andy's told me about her and how she pretty much put her through a rollercoaster of emotions for almost three years. Also the three jobs she worked every day for about four months with no sleep and very little food. Did she tell you about how she doesn't really remember it?"
Brian, Angel, and Lynn nodded, Ethan scoffed then shook his head, "I never met that ex, but from what Andy told me I also thank Kat for pushing her at that foam party." Andy walked over to them, she was smiling but it soon disappeared when she saw everyone's expression.
"What happened?"
**********************************************************************************
Andy roughly opened the door to the town house and rushed in. Everyone followed and Ethan watched as she rushed up the stairs, then he heard the door slam. When everyone was inside he looked at them and told them to make themselves at home. He went to check on Andy, he also asked if they could get them something to eat since it was getting close to dinner time. Before he got out of the Jeep he made sure to grab her medicine. He quickly put the small white bag on the kitchen counter, then made his way upstairs.
After Kara told Andy what happened she just stood there and nodded. She didn't say anything. She didn't know what to say. Her cell phone started to ring and it was her doctor's number. She answered it and after a few minutes she hung up. She said that she had to go to the pharmacy to pick up her medicine. Everyone agreed it was time to leave and Ethan invited Kara and David over as well. They nodded and said that would meet them there.
Andy was quiet the entire ride to the pharmacy. When she pulled into the parking spot she said she would be right back. Lynn touched Ethan's shoulder and he put his hand over hers in a comforting manner, "She's shutting down. This is going to happen. Don't worry, I'm sure she'll tell you at some point tonight."
Lynn nodded and sat back in her seat. It wasn't long until Andy came back into the Jeep and started to drive off towards the town house. Kara and David were already there waiting. Once Andy parked the Jeep and turned it off she got out and went over to Lynn's back passenger door and opened it for her. Lynn gave her a small smile and that Andy somewhat returned.
Now here she was taking off her gloves and threw them against the wall in anger. She sat on her bed and started to angrily untie her boots. When she finally got them untied she roughly took them off and threw them on the floor causing two loud thuds.
They were loud enough that everyone downstairs heard them and they jumped slightly. Ethan opened up her bedroom door and saw her trying to take off her sweater that seemed to be caught around her neck. He wanted to laugh but he knew she was upset.
"Here let me help." He said walking up to her and grabbed some of the sweater and pulled it off.
"Thanks." She said in a monotone. She then took off her long sleeve shirt and now she was down to her white t shirt. She started to undo her belt and had some trouble with unbuttoning her jeans.
"For fuck sake!" She said. At this point Ethan noticed she had tears in her eyes. He didn't say a word, he just knew that he had to close her bedroom door. Then, when he turned around she was in her sweat pants she wore under her jeans and she was sitting on the side of her bed with her head in her hands.
He could hear her sniffling and he didn't say a word he just sat next to her and wrapped his arms around her. That's when she couldn't hold it back anymore and let out a sob.
It just seemed everything was getting to her. From the stress of meeting all these people on the trio's PR team. To the move down to Georgia, to her doctor finding something wrong, to trying to be happy when everything seemed to be going great. It seemed to her that when it something great came along a setback would happen. This got her thinking that she wouldn't be good enough for Lynn, because it seemed her past kept getting in the way. She started to second guess herself again. Like she had many times before. Especially when she started a new relationship.
She could only stay strong for so long, until everything would just start to build up and just come crashing into her like a tidal wave. She's had moments like this before, but this was a little different than the other times. It was more of her not wanting her new friends to see her like this. This was supposed to be a nice vacation. But instead she couldn't help but feel it was more business than anything. Part of her started to reconsider going on tour with them. But the other part said it would be an experience of a life time.
Ethan got up from the bed and walked over to her jeans that were crumpled on the floor and took out her wallet, keys, and cell phone. He typed in her passcode and then started to scroll through until he found what he was looking for.
He walked to the other side of the room and placed her wallet and keys on the night stand. Then he heard the beginning of the song that was coming from her cell phone. The next thing Andy did was lay down on the bed. She laid on her side and brought her knees up to her chest. Ethan hit the 'repeat' button on her phone and set it down on the night stand.
He walked back over to her side and helped her get under the covers. He kneeled down and wiped way some of her tears. "What's going on?" He whispered and fresh tears continued to flow.
"Want me to stay with you for a bit?" He asked and she just closed her eyes and nodded.
He nodded, "Let me go down there and let them know what's going on, and then we'll talk. That okay?"
All she did was nod, "After we talk do you want Lynn up here?"
This time she shook her head, "I don't want her to see me like this."
He nodded, "I understand." He stood up and gave her a kiss on her temple, "I'll be right back. I'll have them bring up some food." Andy just nodded then buried her face into the blanket as tears started to form behind her eyes again.
Lynn looked up from the couch and saw Ethan coming down the stairs, "Is she okay?" She asked standing up.
He sighed and walked into the living room and stood in front of everyone, "She's having a moment. I think she's having a breakdown of some kind. I've seen her do this before. She let's things get to her and she holds it in until she bursts." He looked at his new friends and each one of them had a worried expression on their face. Especially Lynn, he gave her a small smile and went up to her and took both of her hands in his.
"This is Andy. She has breakdowns, she has outbursts of anger, she shuts down. Right now she doesn't want you to see her like this. But I'm sure in time she'll let you in. She wants me up there with her for a little bit though, and I'm pretty sure when she's ready she'll come down. But if she ends up falling asleep I'll let you know."
He sighed and really looked at Lynn this time, "If you truly want to be with her, you have to accept her with all these flaws. She will shut down on you. She will think she's not good enough for you. She's going to worry that you're going to leave her for some one else just like the others. This is her Lynn. Take her or leave her."
Lynn listened to what he had to say and she nodded, "I understand, and I don't need to think about taking her or leaving her. I want to be with her. Flaws and all. Everyone has internal battles, everyone has demons, and everyone has issues. We deal with all of those things in our own way. If this her way of dealing with them, then I get. I've been there. Plus I have a great tutor standing in front of me in case I need to learn a thing or two about her when she gets like this." She finished with a smile and hug. Ethan smiled returning her hug and gave her a kiss on her cheek.
"We're here for the both of you. Whatever you need." Alex said giving Ethan a nod as he and Lynn pulled away from each other.
"Thank you," he said softly.
Brian and Angel nodded, "Same goes for us. We got your backs." Brian said.
Angel stood up and gave Ethan a hug, "Anything she needs, and anything you need. No matter where we are we will be a phone call away."
Ethan returned her hug, "Thank you." When they pulled away from each other he let out a sigh.
They all ended up giving Ethan a hug and he became overwhelmed with love for his friends. He cleared his throat and smiled, "Um did you guys order dinner yet?" They shook their heads.
"We were waiting for you." Kara said.
Ethan nodded, "Since I'll be up there with her for however long, text or call me where you're getting food from and I'll let you know what we want."
"Um, we were wondering if we could all stay over again?" Brian asked.
"Since we're setting up the camp tomorrow and we know you guys want to set up in the morning and it just makes sense to stay over." Angel explained seeing his confused look.
"I'll be staying too." Kara said.
Ethan smiled at her, "Okay well. We have the spare room downstairs for who ever wants to take it. It just has all the camping stuff in it, but there's room to get to the bed. Um, I take it Brian and Angel you'll be staying in the same room?"
They looked at each other and nodded. Ethan looked at Alex, "Pull out couch?"
"You know it," he said with a smile.
Then he turned his attention to Lynn, "Um, if she falls asleep, I'm sure waking up to you would make her morning."
Lynn gave him a smile, "I was just thinking the same thing."
"Come on, Kara and I will drive everyone to get packed for tonight and tomorrow." David said standing up, "We'll stop for food on our way back and let you know where we are." Ethan nodded and reached into his pocket and gave him his keys.
"Angel and I will go with Kara and we can meet up with you three to get food." Brian said and everyone nodded in agreement.
"Just in case we don't answer when you get back." He said and David nodded taking his keys. They all gathered up their coats and said they would be back in a couple of hours. Ethan nodded and he walked with everyone to the front door. He opened it for them and watched as Alex and Lynn got into David's car. While Angel and Brian got into Kara's car. He watched as they pulled away and he closed the door and locked it.
He sighed and as he looked up the stairs and he went into the kitchen and started to make some hot cocoa for the both of them. He smiled when he remembered the first time he had hot cocoa with Andy. He was really homesick and he was just out of sorts for a few days.
Even though it was summer time Andy took him to Rick's and she ordered two hot cocoas for them. He asked her why was she ordering that since it was so hot out. She smiled at him and told him that no matter the weather, hot cocoa always makes things better.
After he poured the hot milk into the cups with the cocoa mix. He stirred up the liquid and put a dollop of whip cream on top of both cups and found some cinnamon and sprinkled some on top of the dollops of whip cream. He took the took mugs and walked out of the kitchen and slowly started to walk up the stairs.
**********************************************************************************
"So she doesn't know exactly what's wrong?" Ethan asked and Andy shook her head. They found themselves downstairs on the couch, after about an hour of them being in Andy's room. She did fall asleep for a little bit after they drank their hot chocolate in silence. Ethan sat next to a sleeping Andy. He turned off the music on her phone and turned on the TV and started to watch a movie while she slept.
When she woke up she looked over at him and gave him a small smile. He asked if she was okay and she told him that she didn't know. He suggested they go downstairs to talk and she nodded. But first he wanted to change into something more comfortable and she said the same.
After about ten minutes, they were both changed into sweat pants, tank tops, socks, and a zip up hoodie. When they came out of their rooms they couldn't help but shake their heads and laugh a little.
Andy explained that she felt this vacation seemed more business like to her instead of enjoying her time with everyone. How she felt that when she seemed to be moving forward her past always tries to block it from happening. Then, she finally got to the one thing that was really troubling her. The phone call from her doctor.
She shook her head at Ethan, "She wants to do a full work up. Stress test, EKG, blood work, the whole nine yards."
"It doesn't run in your family though right?" He asked and Andy shrugged.
"I'm not sure I mean, I almost lost mom that one time because she had that clogged artery. But that was because she had to change up her diet and she's fine now. I even asked doc about it and she said that this is unrelated to that."
Ethan nodded and he heard his cell phone start to ring. "It's Brian," he answered his phone and stood up and started to pace back and forth in the living room.
Andy took out her phone and she saw a text from Lynn saying that she hoped that she was okay and that she was here for her no matter what. She wanted to respond but she wanted to wait until she got back. She would break the news to everyone. This was something she knew she couldn't keep a secret anymore.
Ethan sat back down on the couch and started to type something in his phone, and then he looked up at Andy, "They're stopping at the one place we went to for lunch when we went Christmas shopping. Do you want anything from there?"
Andy nodded and told him what she wanted and he typed it into his phone. After Ethan hit send he put his phone back into his hoodie pocket and looked at his best friend.
"There is a bit of good news in all of this," he said and Andy looked up at him from her phone.
"What's that?"
"Well, they all said that they are here for us no matter what. Plus, Lynn said and I don't know what possessed her to say it," he said the last part jokingly rolling his eyes, "But she still wants to be with you."
"Asshole," she said with a smile.
"Bitch." They laughed.
She looked at him, "She really said that?"
He nodded, "In a sense. I told her that this was you. Mental breakdowns, anger outbursts, shutting down, not letting anyone in for a while. I told her she had to take you or leave you and she didn't hesitate and said that she would take you. You know what I mean by 'take you.'" He said with his goofy grin and a wink.
Andy blushed and grabbed a pillow and buried her face in it. Ethan reached over and tried to grab the pillow away from her but she held on tight.
"Oh no you don't! You give up the pillow or I tell Lynn EVERYTHING about your sex life!"
Andy shot up and gave him the pillow, "You wouldn't!"
He just gave her his goofy grin again and her eyes went wide, "Ethan! I swear! You better not! She already knows that I went eight hours!"
"But she doesn't know about what you CAN do!"
Her eyes went even wider, "Ethan James Chandler! YOU WOULDN'T!" She said standing up from the couch.
He smirked and put his hands behind his head and sighed looking up at the ceiling, "Should I mention the handcuffs? Or the blind folds? Or the silk rope ties? Or the hot wax? Or your favorite position? Or the fact that when it's good I notice the scratches on your back? Or that you're a fan of those fifty shades books?"
"I will kill you where you stand!" Andy said and hit him with a throw pillow.
"The fuck was that?!" He said in shock. He was so busy thinking about how to embarrass her that he didn't see her pick another throw pillow.
"You just got bitch slapped motherfucker!"
Ethan quickly stood up, "Oh it's on!" He said and picked up another throw pillow. Andy squealed and laughed as she started to run away from him.
"You can't run forever!" He said and started to chase after her. He was glad to see her laughing and smiling again. Lynn was right about everyone having demons and having internal battles. Andy has them all the time but she always pushed through. It may take her a while but he knows that in the end she will always be okay.
*********************************************************************************
After knocking a few times and not getting an answer. David opened the door to the town house and noticed that all the lights were off, "Guess they fell asleep." He said and started to help Kara with her over night bag.
"Why is it so dark?" Angel asked walking in behind him and he shrugged. He reached for the light switch. When the light came on he saw a note hanging by the coat rack and saw six Nerf toy guns under it.
"We're some where in the house! Come find us! Each Nerf gun has six darts! Use them wisely!
P.S. You get tagged, you're OUT! Let's have some fucking fun!"
David read out loud when everyone came in. They heard a shuffling upstairs and Angel grabbed onto Brian. Alex shook his head and smiled. He took off his coat and shoes and grabbed one of the toy guns.
"Alex!" Kara said.
He turned his head to look at her, "Oh, come on, they wanna have some fun. There's six of us and two of them! How hard can it be to find them?"
"I'm game!" Brian said taking a toy gun and joined Alex. The two of them waited for the other four to join.
Lynn rolled her eyes and smiled, "Fine, I guess we could use some fun." She grabbed a toy gun and waited for the other three.
"Some one is gonna get hurt, and my money is on Brian." Angel said taking a toy gun and joining the other three. Kara and David looked at each other then back at the four.
"Well, can't beat them, join them," Kara said shrugging off her jacket and taking off her shoes.
David closed the front door and smiled, "Didn't think these two would want to play a game." He followed in suite and joined them, "Okay what's the plan?"
Alex looked around and walked over to the light switch to turn off the light. "Okay, what do we know about this place?"
"Andy's room is the closest to the stairs, Ethan's room is on the other end of the hall." Lynn started to say.
"The master bedroom is around the corner, and the upstairs guest room is by the bathroom." Brian said look up at the stairs.
"And remember Ethan said that there was a spare room downstairs where all the camping gear is." Alex said looking around the living room.
"The kitchen and the living room are across from each other." Angel said.
"Okay let's do this in twos. David, you and Kara take the kitchen. Angel and I will take upstairs, Brian and Lynn you take the living room. Keep it dark, stay quiet and tag them when you see one of them. But remember there's only six darts in these so don't just shot anything that moves." Alex told them.
"Jeez, you play WAY too many video games." Lynn said with a laugh and everyone joined in.
Alex shrugged, "It's what I do. Okay let's go. Wait," he said and put the toy gun down. He rushed to the front door and grabbed the three plastic bags that had their take out food in. He rushed into the kitchen and then came over to them.
Lynn couldn't help but roll her eyes and laugh, "Of course, he has to save the food first."
Alex smirked, "Oh you know it!" They laughed and they started to break off into their teams.
But Kara stopped everyone, "Guys, wait, take off your shoes!" She said looking at Brian, Angel, Lynn and David.
"We'll be quieter that way." She said when they looked back up at her with confused looks. They looked at each other shrugging and nodding. They put down their toy guns and started to take off their shoes.
While the others were out getting their things and something for dinner. Andy and Ethan discovered the basement and attic to the town house while they were having their pillow fight.
Ethan wasn't able to find her anywhere. Then she came up behind him and whacked him with the pillow almost knocking him down to the ground.
"Where THE FUCK did you come from?!" He asked regaining his balance. She laughed and told him to follow her. There was a door under the stairs that no one noticed. She opened it and turned on the light and he saw a stairway.
"Found the basement, but that's not the best part." She and started to go down the stairs with him behind her. She turned on another light and they saw boxes that were organized on the shelves and labeled.
"Come on!" She said and grabbed his hand. She led him to another door and she opened it. Again they were met with a stairway.
He looked at her confused and she just smiled, "Come on," she said and with him following behind her she led him up the stairs. She turned on another light and there as another stairwell.
"Where are we?" He asked.
She smiled and pointed at a small little door, "This leads to the kitchen," she said and opened it. "It's in the pantry."
"Wait but I lost you upstairs." He said.
She nodded, "I know. I hid in the closet and I lost my footing and this one door opened. It had two ways. One to go upstairs and the other to go downstairs. I haven't been up those stairs yet, but I think they lead to the attic."
She said and they started to walk down the hallway. "Who ever built this was a genius!" She said and they came upon the closet she was talking about. She started to climb the stairs with Ethan behind her.
Once they reached the landing it was dark and Andy waited for her eyes to adjust. In the dim light coming from the window she saw a light bulb and walked over to it. She pulled the string and the room lit up. It was also organized with boxes on shelves.
Ethan's eyes went wide and then he smiled, "Dude! I can't believe we're just finding out about this!"
Andy nodded, "I know!" She said and saw a box that marked "TOYS" she went over to it and opened it up.
"BRO!" She said and started to dig through the box and pulled out two Nerf toy guns. Ethan rushed over to her and gave her his goofy grin.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" He asked and she nodded. He picked up the box and started to head towards the staircase.
"Before we leave this place we should look around more." Andy said turning off the light and then followed Ethan.
"Most definitely. But for now let's have some fun!"
"They won't know what hit them!" She said and they started to come up with a plan.
When everyone split off Kara and David started took look around the kitchen. Even in all the cabinets. Kara couldn't help but chuckle and David looked at her with a confused look. She looked up at him and shook her head.
"I just couldn't help but think of what we put these two through since they've been here. The meetings and trying to stay off of social media for a while. Andy being the way she is. At first I thought she all serious, but I never thought she would go for something fun like this."
David nodded, "I got to know her a bit more and I can tell you I've never met anyone like her. Or Ethan for that matter. Both really do have their feet on the ground."
Kara smiled and nodded then she felt something hit in the back, "What the fuck?!" She said turning around ready to shoot her toy gun. She looked on the floor and saw a toy dart.
"Well, looks like I'm out." She said with a smile picking up the dart. David looked around the kitchen trying to figure out where the dart came from. Kara put her toy gun down on the counter and sat in one of the chairs at the bar counter. She watched him as he started to move around the kitchen.
He walked behind her and then he jumped which caused her to let out a small scream. "Fuck!" He said and he saw a toy dark on the ground.
"I'm sorry didn't mean to scare you." He said picking up the toy dart and tossed it on the counter, "Well looks like I'm out too." He put down his toy gun and sat next to her.
Just then Brian and Lynn came running into the kitchen, "What happened?!" Brian asked slightly out of breath.
"We're out. We got tagged," David said getting up and turning on the kitchen light.
Brian and Lynn started to walk around the kitchen and they looked confused. When they looked at the two of them they shrugged. Brian opened the pantry and looked around but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
Ethan could slightly see Brian through the crack and he had his hand over his mouth trying to hide his laughter. When he didn't see Brian anymore he stood up and started to make his way to Andy's position.
"Let's go back to the living room. We might have over looked something." Lynn said and Brian nodded.
"We'll set up the table for dinner." Kara said as she and David started to go through the plastic bags.
They nodded and walked out of the kitchen. Brian walked ahead of Lynn and their eyes started to adjust to the dark.
"GOD DAMN IT!" They heard upstairs. They looked at each other and rushed up the stairs and saw Angel holding at toy dart. Alex was rushing through the rooms and then came out of the master bedroom.
"Did you see where it came from?" Lynn asked.
Angel shook her head, "No! Damn! Where are they?!"
Just then Brian jumped when he felt something hit his chest. "What the fuck?!" He yelled when the toy dart landed on the floor after it hit him.
Lynn and Alex looked at each other with confused looks, "They can't be THAT hard to find!" Alex said and started to make his way to Ethan's room.
"Well babe, I guess we're out." Brian said with a smile and he took her hand. She let out a frustrated sigh.
"David and Kara are setting up for dinner. Guess that's what the losers are going to do," Alex said with small laugh. He and Lynn watched as the couple walked downstairs.
"Guess it's just you and me," he said with a smile and Lynn smiled back.
"So the question is, how are they getting us?" Lynn asked as she opened the hallway closet and turned on the light.
Ethan met up with Andy at her position and they both watched as Lynn looked around the closet. Both were trying to hide their laughter as Alex came over and the two were trying to figure out where they were.
"David and Kara got tagged in the kitchen, Brian and Angel got tagged up here, where could they be?" Alex asked.
"We haven't really checked that spare room downstairs." Lynn said.
"But how would they get from the kitchen to up here so fast?" Alex asked and Lynn shook her head.
"Come on, like you said you haven't fully checked that spare bedroom downstairs." Alex said. Lynn nodded, turning off the light to the closet.
Ethan and Andy quickly and quietly started to make their way to their last position. Alex and Lynn made it down the stairs and they heard everyone else chatting in the kitchen. They looked at each other and smiled and turned the other way. Lynn heard something move on the far end of the living room and panicked. She didn't even bother aiming her toy gun and just shot it off in the direction of the noise.
Alex held up his toy gun and went over to where she shot and let out a small laugh. "The heater kicked on. You hit the fake plant next to the vent." He said coming back over with her toy dart.
"I totally just ignored the, 'Don't shoot anything that moves' rule." She said and then Alex jumped when he felt something hit his back. He looked around and found a toy dart.
"Oh COME ON!" He said picking up the dart. Lynn looked behind him and she couldn't really make out anything in the dark. She got her toy gun ready and started to slowly walk towards the spare bedroom.
She was almost there when she felt something hit her stomach and she let out a small scream. She looked and saw a toy dart and picked it up, "Oooo they're good." She said and Alex walked up to her.
"Okay that's it! Lights are coming on!" He said and he walked over to the wall and turned on the light to the living room. He then walked over to the downstairs bathroom and started to look around. Just as Lynn started to look around the downstairs spare bedroom.
The two walked out with confused looks then saw Ethan and Andy in the living room giving each other a high five.
They turned and saw the other two and smirked, "So did you guys have fun?" Andy asked. The four others came out of the kitchen with wonderment expressions on their faces.
"Where the hell did you two come from?" Angel asked.
Ethan and Andy shrugged, "We just play a lot of video games." Ethan said. Andy noticed Alex raising his toy gun and Lynn following his lead. She nudged Ethan and he saw what they were doing. The four others saw as well copied Lynn and Alex's actions.
"COVER!" Andy yelled. Her and Ethan hit the ground and they hid under the coffee table as toy darts started to fly their way. The two couldn't help but laugh. This trip didn't turn out too bad after all.
***********************************************************************************
"Okay, but seriously, where did you get us from?" David asked finishing up his dinner. After they all emptied out their toy guns and still failing to tag Andy and Ethan they all pitched in and picked up the toy darts and set the toys aside so they could eat dinner.
The kitchen table was all set for the eight of them. They all sat down and started to talk about the little fun game they had. Ethan and Andy looked at each other and smiled.
"Should we tell them?" He asked.
Andy shrugged, "Up to you. I mean if they want we can do some discovering tonight."
"Come on! I hate being the dark!" Angel said in a whiny voice and they all laughed.
Ethan went on to explain that he and Andy got into a pillow fight and he ended up chasing her but lost her upstairs. Then she came out of no where and hit him with a pillow almost knocking him over. Everyone laughed and after the laughter died down Andy took over and explained she found some sort of secret passage way in the closet.
"I KNEW IT!" Lynn said looking at everyone, and the kitchen was filled with some more laughter. Andy smiled and took her hand and kissed the back of it. She went on to say that they found a small door that led to the pantry and that's how Ethan got David and Kara.
"See! I knew something was up in that pantry!" Brian said snapping his fingers.
"So the closet is how you got me and Brian?" Angel said and Andy nodded.
"Then, I took out Alex and Andy took out Lynn from the basement door under the stairs." Ethan finished and stood up. Andy followed his lead and started to clear the dishes off the table.
She met Ethan over by the sink and he looked at her, "How do you want to do this?" Andy turned around and looked at everyone laughing and talking.
She smiled and then turned back to Ethan, "I guess just bring everyone into the living room and tell them straight up. I mean, it's not like I can keep this secret going. It's just weird you know. I workout and I haven't any problems, and all of sudden out of nowhere this happens. I just don't get it. I know I've always had it, but it never came back like this before."
"Thinking about doing it before we explore the basement and attic?" He asked and Andy nodded. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her in close. He kissed the top of her head and then let her go. Lynn couldn't help but watch the exchange between the two best friends. She knew something was going on and as much as she wanted to know. She knew Andy would let her in at some point. She turned her attention back to the conversation and Ethan came over and started to clear away more dishes.
"Okay, weird question, but why do you two always do the dishes when company is over?" Brian asked.
Ethan shrugged, "To be honest, Andy started to do it at our apartment. I think it had to to with her mom growing up. You would find the both of them in the kitchen at the end of a party doing dishes. That's what she told me one time. So, I guess she just wants to be a good host and take care of the dirty work. Plus y'all set the table, so this is us saying thank you." He said smiling then walked back over to the sink with the dishes.
As if on instinct Andy took out her cell phone from her pocket and put on some music. Ethan shook his head when he heard a boy band song play and Andy couldn't help but laugh. "Oh come on these guys were overshadowed by the others." She said and started to sing the song while washing the dishes.
"I swear if you weren't my best friend," he said with a smile and started to organize the dishes for her. It didn't take them long to finish washing, drying, and putting the dishes away. Ethan asked if everyone could go into the living room and they would meet them there. Everyone stood up and started to walk toward the living room. Andy was finishing up cleaning around the sink and Ethan went over to wipe down the table and push in the chairs.
Andy looked around the kitchen and so did Ethan. He walked up to her as she dried her hands with a dish towel and grabbed her phone. She turned off her music and leaned against the sink. She could feel her heart start to race and she couldn't catch her breath. Ethan rushed over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. They didn't have to talk because this happened before.
She pointed to her medicine that she got earlier and he didn't hesitate. He opened the bag and took out the pill bottle. He read the instructions and opened the bottle and took out a small white pill. He grabbed her water bottle off the counter and gave them both to her. She took the pill and put in her mouth followed by a sip of water. She put her hands on the counter and shook her head.
She closed her eyes and tried to control her breathing. While Ethan was rubbing her back. This would only happen when she would get really nervous or when something big was coming up. He knew this was a big thing to tell them and one of Andy's concerns was worrying everybody. She always hated burdening people with her problems. That's one of the reasons why she shuts down and doesn't really let anyone in.
When she finally calmed down she looked at Ethan and nodded. He gave her a worried look and she nodded and gave him a thumbs up. She took another sip of her water and gave him one more nod. He gave her a gentle pat on the back and the both of them walked out into the living to explain what was going on.
Before she fully walked into the living room she took in a deep breath and let it out. She watched as Ethan took a seat on the couch next to Lynn and then she made her way towards the front of the room. She put her bottled water down on the coffee table and looked around at everyone.
She was trying to find the right words to say about her breakdown and this was the last thing she wanted to tell them. That something was wrong with her heart. They had other things to worry about and she didn't want to add it to their lists. But since she and Ethan were getting close with everyone she didn't want to keep secrets from them. She cleared her throat and started to speak.
"I first want to apologize for my behavior earlier today." She said and everyone waved her off and told her that it was okay. She gave everyone a small smile and a quick thank you.
"When Kara said that a couple of my exes came forward claiming to know me and that one of them was saying that we were talking about getting back together, I got really pissed off. Only because it seems that when I try to move on and move forward with some one new they seem to know. It always happens, I don't know why but it does. So there's that. The other thing that has been bothering me is that I couldn't help but feel that almost the entire time that Ethan and I have been here we've done nothing but meet with the PR team." She paused for a moment and looked at Kara.
"Now, I understand y'all want to keep them safe and as well as us. At first that's what I thought this trip was about, instead of enjoying our time with everyone. I mean we had our fun times don't get me wrong. But I just couldn't help but feel that this was more business than pleasure. I'm also not saying that I'm not having a good time, I am. I just wanted to let everyone know what I've been feeling."
"I understand," Kara said nodding and everyone else agreed.
"I'm also kind of nervous about the move down the Georgia. I know I have family down there and I know I've left my home twice. But this move is a big step not only for me but also for Ethan. Plus with the restaurant not being ready and we get to go on tour with you, is a bit nerve wracking. Again don't get me wrong, I can't wait, it's just we've never done anything like this before and I'm really nervous about it."
"We'll take care of you both," Alex said with a smile and Andy returned the smile.
"I know, I just never thought in a million years we would be joining y'all on your adventures. Another thing I'm scared about is being with Lynn." Everyone's attention turned to her and eyes widened.
"Let me explain. I want to be with you I do, it's just with my past keeps trying to stop me and I'm scared that it's going to scare you away too. I don't have the best track record with relationships and I never understood why. Plus I never thought in a million years my school girl crush feelings would turn into genuine feelings.
I've only ever broken up with one girl and all the rest broke up with me. All because I either never communicated with them, or I work too much, or because I would shut them out and they would find some one else." Andy looked down at the ground at this point and Lynn stood up and walked over to her.
She gently took Andy's face in her hands and made her look at her, "I told Ethan earlier that everyone has demons, and battles that they face. I understand about the shutting out, and not being able to let anyone in. I'm with you every step of the way and I don't plan on going anywhere." She softly kissed Andy's lips and she returned the kiss. They pulled away and wrapped their arms around each other. They stood like that for a few more moments and then Andy pulled away from Lynn and kissed her forehead. Lynn smiled and stood next to her and took her hand into hers interlocking their fingers.
Andy cleared her throat and looked around the room, "The final thing, is honestly the one that scares me the most, is that my doctor found something wrong with my heart."
"Is it serious?" David asked and Andy shook her head while shrugging her shoulders
"She doesn't know. But when I get back she wants to do a full work up on me just to make sure everything's okay."
"What did she find?" Angel asked. Andy sighed and she felt Lynn give her hand and gentle squeeze for reassurance.
"Before I travel I always do a quick physical, mainly for my knee. She noticed that my heart murmur may not be the 'innocent' type that she thought. Just something more. There are times I do tend to have trouble catching my breath and my heart rate spikes up out of nowhere. Or when I get scared the same thing happens. She doesn't know what's wrong for sure yet, but when I get back and do the tests hopefully she will."
"But you're so active. How did this come to be?" Brian asked.
Andy shrugged, "I don't know. When I work out I try to keep my heart rate and good level and I try not to go above one eighty eight. Last time that happened it wasn't a pretty picture. Anyway, I guess with all this going on I just kinda had a breakdown and I didn't know how to handle everything.
When I feel like things get really tough, I just shut down and I never know how to let it out. Sometimes I'll just go for a run and I'll end up somewhere, or I write it down, or I punch a wall a few times, or I just cry. But I know in the end I know some people will make it better."
Alex stood up and walked over to her. He put a hand on her shoulder and smiled, "Hey, we get it. We all try to cope with things and everyone handles them differently. We're all the same when it come to holding stuff in and when it gets to much we try to find a release. We won't judge you just because you had a breakdown. We all have them. We may not show it but we do. But we're going to support you, just like you support us. We've known you and Ethan for a short time but you two are starting to become family to me."
Brian stood up, "I couldn't have said it better myself. We all go through changes too, big or small. But in the end we can always count on each other."
Ethan stood up and smiled, "I've been with you through thick and thin. I'm not going anywhere." David, Kara, and Angel stood up as well.
"We're not going anywhere. No matter how bad things get we're here," Kara said.
Andy smiled and she could feel the tears coming down her face, "I feel like I've cried too much on this trip." She said with a small laugh and everyone joined in.
"Y'all are amazing." She said and everyone wrapped their arms around each other and they had a big group hug. In that moment Andy knew things were going to be okay. She had an amazing support system and she couldn't believe things were turning out they way they were.
She never thought she would be here. Surrounded by an amazing group of people that wouldn't judge her because of what she goes through from time to time. The new year was definitely off to an amazing start.
