“I never thought that
I had anymore to give,
You're pushing me so far.”

“Are you sure about this?”
“Kell, come on,” Carrie laughed softly. “How many times are you going to ask me that?”
“Until I’m sure you’re sure,” Kelly replied, studying her closely.
Carrie took her face gently in her hands, holding her there, “I am sure.”
“And how do you feel?”
“I feel fine. There’s nothing to worry about. The doctor said it was ok.”
“Yea, well, I’m starting to doubt the doctor’s credentials,” Kelly mumbled.
“Kell,” Carrie giggled.
“What?” she replied innocently.
“What’s wrong? I know you want to do this just as much as I do.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because I know you,” Carrie smiled. “And I know the only thing you love more than hanging out with me is hanging out with me and your friends, so would you please go open the door so they won’t have to keep standing in the hall like a bunch of weirdos.”
“I just don’t want it to be too much for you,” Kelly explained. “Why don’t we just do it one at a time?”
“Kelly, I’m ok. The doctor said it was fine. They’ve been over here waiting with you this whole time. I want to thank them. Plus, they’re kinda my friends too, you know?”
“Yea?” Kelly gave a small smile.
“Yes,” Carrie nodded. “And I wanna see them to let them know there’s nothing to worry about. So please, will you go open the door and let them in?”
“Alright,” Kelly finally relented as she stood from the hospital bed. She walked over to the door and opened it.
“Finally,” Ashley rolled her eyes as she walked into the room.
“Missed me?” Carrie smiled at her. “You know it’s cause you love me, right?”
“Shut it,” Ashley replied, swatting her arm before pulling her into a careful hug.
“Ash,” Kelly fussed.
“What?” she turned to her. “I hit her arm, not her heart.”
Kelly sighed as Kate and Jason walked into the room as well.
“How are you feeling?” Kate asked, pausing as she made a move to hug the country singer.
“It’s ok, you won’t break me,” Carrie assured.
Kate giggled, hugging her gently.
“And I feel fine,” she added, receiving a hug from Jason as well.
Kelly quickly reclaimed her spot on Carrie’s bed.
“She been giving you a hard time?” Jason asked, nodding towards his sister.
“She’s tough,” Carrie nodded, elbowing Kelly slightly. “But I can’t say I don’t deserve it…”
“Yea, about that. Listen Cowgirl,” Ashley began, but Carrie cut her off.
“I know, I know. I’m sorry. I should’ve never hidden this from y’all. It was stupid, and I’m sorry.”
“Why’d you do it?” Kate questioned softly. “Did you not trust us? Cause you know we would never--”
“No, no, I know y’all wouldn’t. I know. Like I said, I was just being stupid. I was afraid of how Kelly would react.”
“You still could’ve told us, so we would’ve known to look out for you and to make sure you were ok,” Ashley replied.
“And could I have trusted y’all to keep it from Kelly?”
Kate shifted in her seat.
“Well, not Clarkson junior,” Ashley nodded at her. “But Jay and I would’ve if it meant keeping you healthy and Kelly happy.”
“Hey,” Kelly protested. “You would’ve lied to me too?”
“Just until she was ready to tell you,” Ashley explained. “We would’ve made her tell you, but we would’ve kept it a secret until she was ready.”
Kelly nodded, “That’s better.”

“Go fish, biotch!” Kate exclaimed, causing Jason to curse under his breath.
Carrie laughed, squeezing her arm that was wrapped around Kelly as her other hand held her cards.
“He’s always sucked at go fish,” Kelly snuggled closer to her side. “Even when we were little, I always kicked his butt.”
“That’s because I let you,” Jason argued. “You were my little sister. I couldn’t beat you fairly.”
“Oh whatever,” Kelly rolled her eyes. “That’s just an excuse, and you know it.”
He snorted, his eyes going back to his hand.
Carrie giggled, kissing Kelly’s forehead.
“Got any threes?” Kate turned to Ashley.
“How did I get roped into playing this juvenile game?” Ashley glanced at Kelly pleadingly while handing over one of her cards to Kate.
“I’ve been wondering the same exact thing since you got dealt in,” Kelly smiled.
“So wait,” Carrie’s eyebrows furrowed. “If y’all have all been over here, then who’s been watching your house?”
“Alyssa,” Kelly reminded.
“As in your sister?” her eyes widened.
“Yea, I told you earlier that I was with her.”
“It so didn’t click then,” Carrie shook her head. “Why is she here?”
“She was worried about me because she saw how worried I was about you.”
“She saw?”
“The concert was being televised.”
“Oh God,” Carrie groaned. “What all did they see?”
“Not the whole you collapsing thing,” Ashley assured. “Just the you being rushed into the ambulance with Kelly by your side thing.”
“You rode in the ambulance with me,” Carrie turned to Kelly with a gentle smile.
“I’m pretty sure the doctors had to pry her away from you when y’all got here,” Jason teased.
Kelly rolled her eyes, “So I love the girl…so what?”
Carrie’s smile widened as she leaned forward and pressed their lips together lightly, “I love you too.”
“Isn’t this supposed to be a sterile environment?” Ashley questioned.
“Shut up,” Kelly laughed, pushing her playfully.
“So wait, your sister’s here?” Carrie’s eyebrows furrowed once more.
“Yea,” Kelly nodded slowly.
Carrie sighed, reading the expression in her eyes, “She knows.”
“Yea…”
“How’s that going?”
“It’s going…it’s going well. I mean, it’s going better than I thought it would, so that’s good, right?”
“And are you ok?” Carrie’s voice softened.
“You’re awake, and you’re healing,” Kelly smiled, reaching up to stroke her jaw softly. “I couldn’t be happier.”

“Just hold on loosely,
But don't let go.
If you cling to tightly,
You're gonna lose control.”

“So how’s the record coming?” Carrie asked, running her fingers lightly up and down Kelly’s arm as the Texan lay curled against her side.
“It’s been put on hold for now,” Kelly shrugged, her eyes closing at Carrie’s soft touches.
“What do you mean?”
“It’s not like they have a recording studio in the hospital,” Kelly pointed out. “At least, not that I know of.”
“Kell,” Carrie’s hand paused. “You can’t just put your record on hold because of me. The whole point of this record was to get it out fast so you can finish your contract and be through with those buttheads at the label.”
“I’ve learned recently that there are more important things than butthead label execs.”
Carrie sighed, “And while I love you for being sweet, the truth is I’m going to be fine. You don’t have to be here every second anymore.”
“I haven’t been here every second,” Kelly frowned. “Your family’s made sure of that, remember?”
Carrie kissed the top of her head.
“The record can wait a few more weeks.”
“A few more weeks?” Carrie sat up, causing the shorter girl to do the same. “How is the label even allowing you to do this?”
“They haven’t been able to get in touch with me,” Kelly replied simply.
“What do you mean?”
“My phone’s at the house…turned off…”
“But what about everybody else? The label isn’t the only one that’s going to want to communicate with you. You have friends and family, you know?”
Kelly rolled her eyes, “If my family needs to reach me they call Jason or Alyssa. The band’s been checking in through Kate. They said to get better soon, by the way.”
“That was sweet of them,” Carrie smiled.
“They’re sweet guys,” Kelly nodded, resting her head on the country singer’s shoulder.
“But Kelly, I’m serious. You need to get back into the studio. You aren’t completely happy unless you’re doing something with music, I know you.”
“I’m completely happy just doing this,” she replied.
“Kelly,” Carrie sighed.
“Don’t stress yourself out over this,” Kelly said gently. “It’s not worth it.”
“I don’t like the thought that I’m the one keeping you from your music. That’s the last thing I’d ever want to do.”
“Fine,” Kelly sat back up to look at her. “Fine, I’ll get back to work on the album. Happy now?”
“Very,” Carrie nodded.
Kelly chuckled, leaning forward to kiss her. They broke apart at a knock on the door. The clearing of a throat was all it took to make Kelly scowl.
“I haven’t spent time with her all day,” Carrie said softly.
“And how long did I have to go without seeing you?” Kelly reminded.
Carrie laughed, shaking her head, “See, you’re already grumpy from being music deprived. Tell Kate I said to take you to a studio, any studio, I don’t care if it’s a karaoke studio, you hear me?”
“Care,” Kelly rolled her eyes again, this time giggling.
“I mean it,” Carrie poked her stomach softly. “Don’t make me have to call her to tell her myself.”
“You’re crazy.”
“You love me.”
Another clearing of the throat.
“I love you,” Kelly nodded, giving her a quick kiss. “So much.”
“I love you too,” Carrie smiled widely.
“We just had an argument,” Kelly pointed out.
“A little one,” Carrie allowed.
“When are you going to be allowed to have make up sex?” Kelly wiggled her eyebrows.
A coughing fit could be heard behind them.
Carrie had to cover her mouth to keep from laughing loudly. “Behave,” she whispered.
“When have I ever behaved with you?”
“Good point,” Carrie nodded before pulling Kelly into a tight hug, dipping her head to place a soft kiss on her neck before pulling away.
Kelly winked as she stood from the bed before turning around. “Hello, Mrs. Underwood,” she gave her cheeriest smile.
“Kelly,” Carrie’s mother forced out.
“Have a good visit,” Kelly waved before turning back to Carrie. “I’ll see you soon. Don’t stay up too much later. You’ve had a long day.”
“Go play,” Carrie motioned her out the door.
“Yes ma’am,” Kelly grinned. “I love it when you’re bossy.”
Carrie couldn’t help but blush at the look her mother gave her.
