She thought she was dreaming when she woke up. A smile was still fixed on her face, a new, permanent attatchment, even though she could almost feel the bandages that she had only been able to take off a week ago. Everything is finally right...she thought dreamily. She reached her arm accross the bed, but knew that Frank had been gone for some time. It was still early, and he usually went out first thing in the morning so that she didn't even know he had left. He didn't like leaving her alone anymore. And she didn't like being alone, especially if she didn't have to.
She opened her eyes to find the sun lazily creeping in through the curtains. It wasn't as light as it should have been, probably from the clouds that had been creeping in the day before. But she didn't mind. She liked the rain. It made her feel....creative....cozy.....and it was so fun to dance in. She laughed a little to herself as she thought of her and Frank dancing in the rain. Yeah, if it did rain, she'd drag him outside and make him dance with her in the street. She knew he'd enjoy it.
She flung her legs over the side of the bed and hopped in the shower. Ever since that night, she'd been avoiding the bathroom. It was such as blatant reminder of what she'd done. She could picture the blood, even though she hadn't really seen it, pooling on the floor, running in rivulets down her hands into the drain in the tub.....it gave her goosebumps to think about what she had done to herself. She never ever wanted to be in that dark place she had been that night. But Frank told her that she was a different person now. She didn't have to repeat that ever, if she didn't want to. He didn't want her to. And that was reason enough. She washed the grime from her hair, revelling in the feel of the warm water coursing over her body. She got out, drying herself off and choosing an outfit to wear, then went into the kitchen to find herself something for breakfast.
She was in the middle of making toast when someone knocked on the door.
Probably Frank with an armload of something. He seemed to never tire of buying her presents lately. Like he was worried she didn't appreciate everything he had already done for her. He cared for her so much, it sometimes made her ache that she had really thought that he was better off without her. She knew she would never be better off without him. She opened the door, expecting to see his smiling face.
But that's not what she found.
Gerard stood there, clad in a dark coat and pants, black hair hanging around his solemn looking visage. He was holding flowers. He stood awkwardly, as if not quite sure what to do with himself.
She tried to mask her dissapointment, and the tinge of guilt that she felt every time she saw him, which thankfully wasn't often.
"Hey, uh, Gerard. What are you doing here?" she asked, attempting to make it sound like a pleasant surprise. Gerard could see that it was otherwise.
"Um, can I come in?" he asked trying to sound as meek as possible. She searched his eyes, trying to detect any hint of guile, and, finding none, sighed, opening the door a little wider so he could come in. He walked into the kitchen, holding out the flowers in his hand.
"I got these for you." He held them out further, intending her to take them. She reached out and grabbed them, setting them down on the counter. He looked around and finally sat down in a chair by the dining room table. Things remained quiet until he finally spoke up.
"So....how are things, you know, between you and Frank?" He looked at the ground. Stupid, stupid, STUPID! Think of something better to say you IDIOT!
She looked at him blankly. Is he serious?! As if that's why he's here.... "Fine," she answered simply. He didn't say anything else for a while, and she knew he wasn't here to ask her about her and Frank's relationship. So she finally just said, "Gerard, what are you doing here?" She crossed her arms as she stared down her nose at him, looking very much like a unimpressed school teacher. His eyes finally met hers. The look she saw there stopped her breath in her throat.
"Luca.....I don't know what to say to you." He swallowed hard, and looked around the room, as if trying to draw inspiration from something, anything, that would tell him what he needed to say to her to make things right. "When I thought you had....you know....I was so worried about you.....I thought that I had lost you forever....and I realized how awful I had treated you......and I just....I wanted to say that I.....Luca I can't.......I love you." She half expected those words to come out of his mouth, but that didn't detract from the shock she still felt when he said them. She looked at him hard.
"Gerard, we've been through this already....Frank...I love Frank, and he loves me. What happened between us, well, it was a mistake. And I'm sorry if I've hurt you, or lead you on at all, but I thought that you knew that there was nothing between us." She watched the expression on his face change from dissappointment to confusion to disbelief with each word that she spoke. By the time she had finished speaking he was shaking his head profusely.
"No. No. Luca, you know that's not true." He stood up, and started coming towards her. "Luca, I love you. You love me too, I know you do. You know you do..." He trailed off, his hand reaching up to cup her cheek. She turned away from him, stepping back a few paces trying to keep her distance from him. Something about his manner was...off. He seemed too calm or something, she just couldn't put her finger on it.
He watched her back away from him. He moved closer again. "Luca, don't run away from me. We are meant to be together. Why else would all this have happened?" She looked at him incredulously.
"Gerard, all of this" she motioned her finger back and forth between him and herself, happened because I made a mistake. The first night, it wasn't anything! We hardly kissed and then you, like, never talked to me again. And then that night when we..." She couldn't even put it into words. "I thought that I had lost Frank, and I made a big mistake. I hurt Frank, and I hurt myself. And I don't want that to happen ever again!"
No, she doesn't know what she's saying. "Luca, don't talk like that! I know that you care about Frank, but you know we didn't make a mistake! I know how badly you wanted me! You still do! That night was incredible, and you can't tell me that you've never thought about it since then...." He trailed off, a dangerous look in his eye, and he grabbed her around her waist, bringing her body tight against his. She braced her hands against his chest, trying to push herself away from him.
"Gerard! No!" She cried as he tried to pull her into a kiss. She pounded her fists against his chest, but she was no match for his strength. One hand went behind her head, holding her still as his mouth crushed against hers, grinding her teeth into her lips. It hurt. But worse, she felt his other hand moving down, down her stomach to feel between her legs. She felt his fingers slipping into the waistband of her pants to tease her sensitive skin. She kept pushing at him as hard as she could. His mouth moved down her throat, biting savagely at the tender flesh around her clavicle. This had to stop before he got out of control. But no matter how hard she pushed, he didn't budge. In fact, the more she struggled the tighter he held her. She couldn't think of anything else to do. So finally she screamed "STOP IT!" this time slapping him hard accross the face. "Gerard, I said no! What's WRONG with you?!" She yelled at him stepping away from him as he rubbed the stinging red print on his cheek. He looked up at her.
"You shouldn't have done that." He moved towards her again. She backed away until she felt the fridge pressing against her back. "Luca, you didn't need to do that. Don't fight me. You know you want this." He grabbed her wrist in mid-air as she moved to strike him again. "Uh-uh, we can't have any of that. No sir." He pulled her along by the wrist as he searched the kitchen drawers. He finally pulled out a roll of duct tape motioning for her to hold her hand out in front of her.
She felt tears stinging her eyes as she looked up at him pleadingly."Gerard," she breathed, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you....but you don't need to do this...Frank will be home soon.....Please, don't do this!" He looked down at her, the pain and sincerity that had shown in his eyes just moments ago replaced by a look so cold it froze her blood in her veins.
"Oh, don't worry. I'll take care of Frank when he gets here. Now you just make sure you sit nice and still for me while I take care of those nasty palms you have..." He started wrapping layer after layer of tape around her wrists. After that he decided that he didn't want her talking either, so he taped her mouth shut too. She didn't try to stop the tears anymore, and they fell down her face as he worked. Her nose ran, and she couldn't even reach up to wipe away the wetness covering her cheeks. Frank, she thought desperately as she Gerard dissappeared into the bedroom, coming out a few minutes later, pushing her ahead of him and commanding her to lay on the bed.
Please Frank. Save me....
