Kaoru’s idea wasn’t such a bad one. He knew a woman who ran an onsen, and now here I was, following her to my little room as she told me the rules for working there. First was how I’d have to wear a work kimono. I had to get up at the crack of dawn to start my work day. We’d already stopped by this room she had to get me a work kimono. At the end of each day I was to change into the yukata Kaoru had bought for me, and wash the kimono I’d worn that day. Only then could I say my work day was done.
“Since Kaoru, that dear, asked that you not do anything too strenuous we’ll have you sweep the walks, and polish the wooden floors,” she told me.
I nodded. Yeah, like being on my knees for most of the day polishing with a cloth wasn’t too strenuous. Sigh. But oh well.
“This is a coed onsen.” She paused and glanced back at me. “You do know what that means?”
I flushed. “Yes,” I replied. “Men and women can share rooms and the pools.”
She nodded, and then kept walking so I followed her. “Good. I hope you are not prudish. I had a prudish girl working here, and she nearly attacked one of our customers for being in a pool with his lady friend.” Suddenly she stopped again, and turned towards me. “This is a coed onsen, but not a loose one. You will still show proper respect and decorum. I will not tolerate you coming onto all the male customers.”
I flushed more. This time partially in anger, but I held it in.
She sighed. “But Kaoru assures me you’re a good and virginal girl.” She smiled, a distant look coming to her eyes, and moistened her lips with her tongue.
I knew she was thinking of Kaoru again. She’d practically pounced on him when we’d gotten here. She’d been a little upset when he’d first asked her to take me in for a while until he’d told her I was ‘little Suji-chan’, raised with his baby sister and brother, and more family than anything else. So long as Kaoru wasn’t bedding me she was happy. Actually, I couldn’t picture myself with Kaoru or Kyo. They were, and always would be, brothers to me.
“This is your room,” she opened the sliding door, and I entered. It was very pretty with water colors in dark frames on the walls, tatami mats on the floor, a tall frond plant in a clay pot by the other sliding door that was opened to the pool for the staff and the garden surrounding it. A small dark wood chabudai was in the middle of the room with pink and light green cushions for sitting. Folded neatly in a corner was a futon with pink and light green bedding folded over it. The one light in the room was a small one on a low desk that also had a small flowering plant on it. One wall had a small closet.
I turned towards her and bowed. “Arigatou! It’s beautiful.”
“I’ll have someone come get you in the morning. Good night.” She slid the door shut as she left.
It was quiet. My mind was starting to rewind to the day’s events, and I wasn’t ready for that so I hurriedly went to the closet to put the few things of clothes I had away. But it didn’t take long to put the yukata and work kimono away. I’d been so upset earlier that I hadn’t remembered the luggage I’d had in the trunk of the car. And perhaps the others had understood that seeing the luggage would only make me think of what had happened at the airport so no one had forced me to take it. But that meant I’d need to go shopping for a few essentials.
Going to the desk I put my purse down beside it and found paper and pen in a small drawer. Making a list of what I’d need would occupy my mind for a while. But writing down the list didn’t take as long as I’d hoped. So finally I took my yukata, changed, and went to shower and then sit in the bath. The heat relaxed my body, and I felt exhausted all of a sudden. I welcomed sleep. I hoped it would be a deep and dreamless sleep.
I wasn’t so lucky. I had dreams of Die and Toshiya. In one dream Toshiya declared his love while he kissed me, and his hand slid to my breast. I moaned into his mouth, and pressed closer, wanting more. Pulling my mouth from his I looked at him to tell him not to stop, but the words caught in my throat as I looked into Die’s eyes. Eyes full of hurt and betrayal. Eyes that made me cry out in guilt. I woke suddenly, gasping, and stared at the wall, noticing that my vision was going blurry. Damn. Damn, damn, damn, damn!
…………………
Unable to sleep I was up before the sun, and already polishing the floors. I had to keep busy so I wouldn’t think. I didn’t want to think. Not yet. I wasn’t ready yet. By the time the owner came out I was already putting the polishing supplies away. She was startled. “Suji-chan, did you not sleep?” she asked, seeing the gleaming dark wood floors.
I bowed to her. “Good morning.” I gave a small smile. “I slept a little.”
“Well, come eat breakfast before you start sweeping.”
I enjoyed the sweeping. It was an old fashioned straw broom, but the air was fresh, and the scenery absolutely gorgeous. Done by noon I had lunch, and then went into town to get the few essentials I needed. I spent the afternoon exploring and after dinner showered and then soaked in the staff’s bath. I was exhausted early in the evening so went to bed.
Tonight the dream was an opposite. I was in Die’s car, and straddling his lap. His hands were up my skirt, stroking my thighs, and we were kissing wildly. He broke the kiss to nuzzle between my breasts as my bodice was undone. Forcing my eyes open I looked down at his dark hair. Frowning I caught his hair in my hands and pulled his head back some. I was shocked to find Toshiya looking up at me.
It was routine now for me to have the wood floors polished early. My yukata was hanging up to dry, and I swept the outside paths after breakfast. After lunch I would walk around, exploring. Dinner, wash my work kimono and hang it up, shower and then soak in a bath. And it seemed to be routine to have dreams about Toshiya and Die. Die and I marrying, and working on a family, but when the first child is born it looks like Toshiya. Die gives me that hurt and betrayed look. That look was enough to keep me awake the rest of the night.
…………………………
Kyo winced as he hit the wall hard. “Now, Totchi, why did you go and do that? Now I have to hurt you, and you’re just starting to look normal again.”
Toshiya glared down at the blond. “It’s been almost a week. Where… the fuck… is… she?” The last was said slowly through gritted teeth.
Eyes falling shut, Kyo let out a heavy sigh. “It’s been four days.”
“That’s fucking well almost a week!” Toshiya shouted, slamming his brother into the wall once more for emphasis. “Kyo, dammit, I have to talk to her! I have to explain. I have to make her see that I…”
“Do you really love her, Totchi?” Kyo tilted his head some, intently watching his taller though younger brother. “Die wants to marry her. He wants to make babies with her. Live happily ever after with her. What about you?”
The dark haired taller male backed up a step, and ran a hand through those dark locks. “I spent so many years trying to show I didn’t love her that I never really gave it a thought.”
The shorter blond poked Toshiya’s chest. “Yeah? Well, start thinking because Suji-chan is a good girl, and she’s family. She’s not going to be one of the many whose legs you crawl between. She deserves more than that.” He pushed by and into his room.
Kaoru had been lying there, reading. “What was that all about?”
“Totchi demanding to know where Suji-chan is.” Kyo tilted his head sideways in thought. “How come you never came to check see what it is?”
Kaoru snorted. “Please, I’m at a sex scene,” he lifted the novel to show Kyo. “Besides, since when do you need me to check on you?” He gave a fake gasp. “Are you… getting old and feeble?”
Shirt undone and half hanging off his shoulders, the blond flipped him the bird. “You only wish.” He tossed the shirt into a hamper, and started to undo his denims. “So when’s Saika bringing her boyfriend by?”
The eldest of the boys rolled onto his back, and stared up at the bunk above him, pursing his lips for a moment, and then running both hands tiredly over his face. “Know what’s scary? We can either help our sister to find the right man and get married so she’s protected and safe, or we can continue to keep her a virgin and have every asshole that’s a womanizer like us chase after her.” He saw Kyo opening his mouth to reply, and he held up a finger to stall him. “We can’t kill them all, Kyo. We’re getting old.”
“Speak for yourself!” the blond snorted, climbing on the top bunk in his underwear, and crawling beneath the covers. He knew his brother had a point. “Never did find out anything about this Toru guy, did we?”
“Saika might be more willing to talk about him now that she knows we know about him,” Kaoru stated. “Maybe we should…” Shinya had just entered the room he shared with the two eldest, and now Kaoru paused, sniffing. “Shinya, are you wearing perfume?”
The youngest of the five boys reached for his towel and the tee and sweats he wore to bed. “No.” He didn’t make it far before the scrambling of two people climbing out of their beds sounded and his arm was caught in Kyo’s grip. “What?” he demanded, scowling at them. He tried to bat them away when they started to sniff at his shoulders and chest. “What the… Stop it!”
Kyo glanced at Kaoru. “I do believe he smells like a woman.”
Kaoru nodded. “Hai. Either he had a sex change, was shopping for perfume for Mama’s birthday…”
“Mama’s birthday?” Kyo interrupted.
Kaoru sighed heavily. “Once again you forget? It’s tomorrow.” He yanked the youngest back when he tried to sneak off while they talked. “Now, now, don’t go anywhere yet, Shinya.”
Kyo pulled a facepalm. “Dammit! Why do I always forget? She’s the woman who gave birth to me!”
“That is a subject still being debated,” Kaoru stated, nodding and shutting his eyes. “I still say they either found you on the side of the road and you followed the parents home after they fed you out of pity, or you were hatched and it’s been impressed onto you we’re actually related so you won’t leave.”
“Fuck you,” Kyo snorted.
Shinya again tried to leave, but was pulled back by the other two. “I’m not going to get out of here at all until I satisfy your curiosity, am I?”
“I told you he was smarter than Die,” Kyo quipped.
“Fine! Fine!” Shinya turned his face away, glowering. “I… had a date.”
“A date?”
“With a woman?”
The youngest glared at them both. “Yes, with a fucking woman!”
“Ooh, and a fucking one,” Kaoru told Kyo, brows shooting up and eyes widening. “I’m impressed.”
Shinya yanked free and left the room. “Baka!” he grumbled on his way out.
“Wait, wait!” Kyo poked his head out of the bedroom door. “Does that mean you got laid?”
Kaoru laughed when a slipper smacked the blond in the face.
