Over the next couple of weeks after Louisa’s departure Josh floated around despondently something that didn’t escape the notice of his mother or Rachel. Late Christmas night five days after Louisa had left for Australia and four days after Josh, Josef, Sam and Ben had arrived in Bloomington and long after everyone had gone to bed Josh was sitting alone in the lounge room nursing an Irish coffee when Rachel padded down the stairs.

‘Are you still up?’ she asked in surprise ‘J its three o’clock in the morning’

‘Is it?’ Josh said distractedly staring into the dancing flames of the fireplace ‘I hadn’t noticed’

‘Have you gone to bed?’

‘Yeah but couldn’t sleep’ Josh said with a long protracted sigh.

‘Let me make a hot chocolate and we’ll chat’ Rachel said with a yawn ‘can you put up with your baby sister for a bit?’

Josh chuckled.
‘Yeah pull up a pew’ he said.

Rachel made herself a mug of hot chocolate and joined Josh on the couch.

‘Okay spill’ she said taking a sip of her drink and tucking her legs under her.

‘Spill what?’

Rachel rolled her eyes.
‘Your guts’ she said ‘you miss Louie don’t you?’

‘Yeah’ Josh said hugging a cushion to his chest with a sigh ‘am I that obvious?’

Rachel rolled her eyes again.
‘A balls on a bull’ she said ‘you’ve been sighing every ten seconds since you and Jo arrived from New York and have hardly picked up the Strad since you got here you didn’t pick it up at all yesterday and went for a nanna nap mid afternoon. You haven’t had one of those since Jo was an infant. And you’re hugging cushions like they are Louisa. And you daydreamed all throughout lunch today and I’ve never known you to daydream in my whole life. Why don’t you ring her?’

‘I have I only got off the phone to her an hour ago’

‘And how is she?’

‘Good eating lots of turkey, ham, pork and chicken and was about to start on some homemade baileys ice cream when I rang’

‘I think next year you should go to Australia and spend Christmas with Louie’ Rachel said sipping her drink ‘we’ve loved having you here as usual J but you’ve not been yourself your body is here but your mind is thousands of miles away’

‘Oh god Mom and Max must think I’ve been a right pain in the ass’ Josh groaned slapping his forehead.

‘No they don’t none of us do we just know you miss Louie like crazy’ Rachel said softly ‘we miss her too. The week you two were here for Thanksgiving was the best fun we’ve had in ages Louie brought a new vibrancy to the celebrations and a totally different vibe to the family dynamic’

Josh smiled reminiscently.
‘She did didn’t she?’ he said with a whimsical sigh ‘she’s brought a new vibrancy and different vibe to my life since I met her. She fascinates the hell out of me Rach and I don’t know why I just want to be around her twenty four hours a day seven days a week. And not just in the sexual way either. I just need to be around her. Watching her, holding her listening to her play. I’ve developed a new appreciation for Dvorak since I met her’

Rachel smiled.
‘Sounds like you’re in love’ she said ‘properly in love’

Josh went pink.
‘I am’ he said softly ‘I told her that’

‘Oh really? That’s lovely! What did she say?’

‘Do you want to know? It’s a long story’

‘Try me’ Rachel said tucking a cushion into the small of her back ‘I have a long time’

‘Okay it started a couple of weeks ago....’

And for the next half an hour Josh explained the lead up and fallout of him telling Louisa he loved her. Right from when Louisa ran off til afterwards and the ‘physical making up’ the day before her departure to Melbourne. Rachel proved a very attentive audience. Nodding, making suggestions and asking questions where appropriate. It ended when she finished her hot chocolate and began getting sleepy again.

‘I better head back to bed’ she said with a yawn climbing out of the lounge chair ‘I’m knackered. I think you’ve found the one for you J. I think Louisa’s you’re soul mate even if she isn’t ready to say she loves you yet. Actions speak louder than words and one day, and one day soon you’ll hear her utter those three little words’

‘I hope so Rach but I’m not going to push her I love her too much for that’ Josh said.

Rachel ruffled Josh’s hair and kissed the top of his head.
‘I know you do J I know you do’ she said ‘just think only nine days til she comes home and you can resume your healthy sex life’

Josh went a magnificent shade of scarlet.
‘Shut up Rach I luv ya but I’m not sharing that sort of info’ he mumbled.

‘You don’t have to J everyone in a hundred mile radius can tell when you and Louie have been intimate wether it be entrée or the full main course you get around looking like a Cheshire Cat’ Rachel said with a giggle ‘but we’re glad you’re experiencing what a properly in love couple should you never had this sort of vibe in the whole time you were with Lisa that’s why Mom, T.J, Terry and I think Louie is the one for you. You’re different when she’s around you’re truly happier. Your soul is free when you’re with her’

‘I know that’s exactly how I feel’ Josh said with a grin ‘thanks for the chat Rach you’re a gem’

‘No problem J night poo face’ Rachel replied with a grin as she headed for the stairs.

‘Night chunky guts’

‘Ha ha!’

Eight days later Josh and his sons returned to a biting New York the day before Louisa was due to return from Australia. Only one more day. Only one more day til he was reunited with his soul mate.

Josh woke early the next day, the day of Louisa’s return to New York to Josef, Sam and Ben running into the bedroom and jumping on the bed.

‘DADDY LOO BOO’S BACK TODAY!’ they bellowed excitedly.

‘Oof Jo no need to jump on me!’ Josh groaned as Josef bounced on his father.

‘But Daddy Louie’s back today!’ Josef trilled as if Josh didn’t quite understand his excitement ‘can we go to the aipowrt now?’

Josh yawned and looked over at his clock radio which read ‘7:30AM’
‘Guys it’s only seven thirty in the morning Louie isn’t due to land for another twelve hours’ he said sleepily ‘that’s after dinnertime it’s too early to go now. Why don’t you come to bed?’

‘Aw Daddy we're awake now!’ Ben said

Josh sighed and sat up.
‘Well I suppose its breakfast time isn’t it?’ he said with a yawn ‘you guys hungry?’

‘Uh huh’

‘Alright then let’s get you in the shower and I’ll make bacon and eggs alright?’

‘Owkay!’

The closer the time came for Louisa’s arrival back in New York Josh found himself getting more and more excited. He burnt off energy by running on his treadmill and playing several songs on his Strad. Finally though the time came to leave for JFK.

‘Okay boys it’s time to go and get Louie’ he called from atop the second landing ‘go get your shoes on and we’ll go alright?’

‘Wreally Daddy you sure?’ Josef said excitedly.

‘Uh huh come on’

Josh, Josef, Ben and Sam wrapped up warmly ten left Gramercy Park shortly after six PM. The traffic was so bad they didn’t arrive at JFK til quarter past seven. They were then forced to race inside and didn’t arrive in the international arrivals lounge til seven thirty five.

‘W-we late Daddy?’ Josef puffed.

‘Only a little’ Josh said scanning the television screens displaying the flights to arrive in the next three hours. He immediately spotted ‘CATHAY PACIFIC 2020~ARRIVED’ flashing up in the screen ‘but her plane has landed, she shouldn’t be too much longer’

‘How long?’

‘Maybe half an hour she has to get some important people to look through her bags then she can come out’

‘Are you going to kiss her Daddy?’ Ben said with a toothy grin.

Josh picked Ben up and put him on his hip.
‘I am’ he said tickling his son ‘you can too but it’s my turn first alright?’

Ben squirmed and giggled shrilly.
‘Aw okay’ he trilled slinging his arms around his fathers neck ‘are you gowing to kiss her for a long time?’

‘That is none of your business young Mr Bell’ Josh said tickling Ben again ‘you know what happens to nosey young boys don’t you? They get tickled!’

Ben shrieked with laughter.
‘You thilly Daddy!’

Finally twenty minutes after touchdown the passengers on Louisa’s flight began filtering through to the arrivals lounge. Josh eagerly scanned the flow of people til he finally spotted Louisa pushing a trolley laden with baggage her dark red hair pulled back in a tight braid. His heart swelled and a lump formed in his throat as he pointed the younger woman out to his sons.

‘There she is guys’ he said waving to catch Louisa’s attention ‘why don’t you call her I don’t think she can see us’

‘LOO BOO OVER HERE!’ Josef called waving both arms above his head ‘LOOOOUIE!’

Josef’s shrill call finally caught Louisa’s attention. Her round face broke into a wide smile and she waved pushing the heavy trolley toward them.

‘Go on you go say hello first’ Josh said putting Ben down on the ground ‘go on’

Josef and his brothers ran off toward Louisa engulfing her booted legs in a crushing hug. Louisa scooped each oen of the boys up and swung them around.

‘Hey monster how are ya? Oh I missed you!’ Louisa exclaimed tickling Ben hard then hugging him ‘how was your Christmas? Has Daddy been a good boy?’

‘Uh huh so have I!’ Josef said his little face alive with excitement ‘we missed you!’

‘I missed you too kiddo how was Christmas? Did you get lots of presents?’

‘Uh huh I got some Wiggles stuff an’ Sesame Street stuff an’ Daddy got me an’ Tickle Me Elmo an’ Gramma got me a racing car an’ Mommy got me a twuck an-‘

‘How about you show me all this stuff when we get back to the apartment?’ Louisa suggested to the excited toddler sitting him on top of all her luggage on the trolley ‘I want to see it all’

‘Wreally?’

‘Uh huh come on let’s find Dad’

Josh watched his sons and girlfriend have a spirited conversation as Louisa pushed her trolley toward him. He had to use all his self control not to race toward her with their enthusiasm. Eventually though she reached him and held her arms out. Josh hugged her hard and kissed her pressing his tongue against her lips wordlessly asking her to open her mouth. She parted them an in an instant their kiss deepened to something more intimate, romantic and needy.

‘God I’ve missed you’ Josh murmured when they eventually pulled apart ‘it’s so good to have you home’

Louisa hugged him as if she never wanted to let him go.
‘It’s good to be home’ she whispered kissing him passionately again ‘I’ve missed you too....so much’

Josh and Louisa stood in the middle of the arrivals lounge kissing til Josef and the Twins started getting restless.
‘Okay boys I think it’s time we get you home and got you into bed’ Josh said ruffling his son’s hair ‘c’mon you’ve had a long day and it’s way past your bedtimes’

‘Aw Daddy!’ Sam whined.

Louisa picked Sam up and put him on her hip.
‘I brought something back from Australia for you and your brothers mister’ she said ‘promise me you’ll go to bed when Dad says so and I’ll give it to you tonight okay? You have to be good though’

Sam nestled into Louisa’s side.
‘Okay’ he said happily ‘I'm sweepy’

‘Has Dad been wearing you out?’ Louisa asked with a grin as they left the arrivals lounge and began heading towards the short term parking tower ‘you look tired’

‘Uh huh we went ice skatin’ today Daddy fell over’ Sam said with a giggle ‘he made an owie’

‘Dad made three owies’ Josh said going bright pink ‘both knees and my butt’

‘Well I’ll see if I can help your Dad get better okay Sam?’ Louisa said with a grin ‘did you make any owies?’

‘Nuh uh I stayed up I laughed at Daddy’

‘So did everyone at Rockefeller Plaza’ Josh said dryly rolling his eyes ‘I felt like a right idiot’

‘Ah it happens to everyone’ Louisa said with a grin ‘I probably would’ve laughed at you too’

‘Oh gee thanks sweetheart you’re not off the plane forty five minutes and you’re already teasing me’

‘Hey I’ve been away for nearly three weeks I’ve been saving it up’ Louisa said with a great snort of laughter.

They reached the short term parking shed and Louisa put Sam and Ben in their booster seats while Josh stowed all her baggage in the trunk and on the backseat.

‘You went away with less stuff’ Josh said after he returned from stowing the trolley in the collection bay.

‘I always do when I come back from a trip away’ Louisa said ‘I bought lots of stuff for the house and one or two things for four special men’

‘Didya get Daddy a pwesent too Loo Boo?’ Josef asked as Josh started the engine.

‘Uh huh but like you he only gets his is he’s been a good boy’ Louisa said reaching across the console and resting a hand on Josh’s thigh ‘tell me has Daddy been good?’

‘Yeaaaaaah!’

‘I get into my pyjamas and brush my teeth when I’m told’ Josh said reversing out of the park ‘I’ve missed having someone tuck me in though it’s a bit hard to do it on your own. And reading a story on your own without someone to do the voices is downright boring’

‘Louie can you pwease wread us a stowy tonight?’ Josef asked hopefully ‘please?’

‘Okay matey but you have to start getting ready for bed as soon as we get back to Dad’s place okay?’ Louisa said ‘promise?’

‘I pwomise’

An hour later they arrived back at Gramercy Park and had to make two trips from the car to the apartment to move all of Louisa’s belongings inside.

‘I don’t think they're going to make a story they're zonked out’ Louisa whispered as she carried Ben inside ‘what did you do to them today? I’ve never seen them zonk out so early’

‘Ice skating, ball pits indoor sliding I purposely tired him out so when you got back we would have some alone time’ Josh said as they headed upstairs ‘I’m hoping they’ll wake up late tomorrow morning too’

‘When does they go back to Lisa’s?’

‘Tomorrow night’ Josh said as he pushed open the boys bedroom door ‘if your jetlag isn’t too bad would you like to go to Valentino’s? I’d be nice to have a date night’

Louisa smiled.
‘I would’ she said softly as Josh retrieved a pair of Josef’s pyjamas form the set of drawers on the other side of the room ‘I like an excuse to dress up’

Josh undressed Josef and wrapped him up warmly in a pair of pyjamas while Louisa helped with Sam and Ben. He then tucked him in and pressed a kiss to the sleeping child’s forehead.

‘Night Jo’ he whispered.

‘You’re an exceptional father you know that?’ Louisa whispered as Josh bade the Twins goodnight and switched on the stars and moon night light ‘god you’re good at being a parent’

‘Aw dunno sometimes I wonder’ Josh said closing the door behind them ‘especially when they’re in a mood’

‘All kids have moods Josh my cousin’s second child Christa cracked the shits big time on Christmas Day and she’s exactly the same age as Ben and Sam’ Louisa said ‘and how often are they in a mood? Since I met them at the beginning of November I may have seen them a bit cranky once and that was when one of Jo's teeth came out early and it bled everywhere’

‘Well you’re right he’s not often in a mood’ Josh said as they headed downstairs to the living room ‘he’s a pretty well adjusted kid considering his parents hate each other’

‘You and Lisa don’t hate each other you’re just not fans of each others fan club’ Louisa said sagely ‘if you truly hated each other you’d drag the boys custody through the courts and have screaming matches in front of him. Of all the separated parents I’ve come across in my life you two get on the best’

‘I’m not sure you’d call it getting on’

‘Well you’re being civil’ Louisa said ‘and not a lot of separated, broken up and divorced couples are like that’

‘Hmm’

‘Well I think you’re doing a brilliant job with them they’re brilliant kids’ Louisa said firmly ‘I just hope when I have kids one day they turn out half as good as he has’

Josh flopped down onto the sofa and pulled Louisa down with him.
‘God I’ve missed you’ he said showering her face with kisses ‘don’t go away again’

‘I can’t do that’ Louisa said with a soft smile ‘my family would disown me if I didn’t go home to visit at least at Easter and Christmas. There are several people back home who don’t like me dating you already if I stayed back here to spend time with you I’d cop even more flack’

‘Who’s been having a go at you?’ Josh asked in concern rubbing her arms ‘tell me what happened’

‘You don’t want to know’ Louisa said making a face.

‘Tell me’ Josh said holding her chin and kissing her softly ‘whatever it is it’s bothering you, I can tell’

‘D’you really want to know?’ Louisa said laying her head on his chest ‘not a lot of it is real complimentary about you’

‘I’m made of stern stuff sweetheart you can tell me anything you know that’ Josh said holding her close.

‘Alright then’ Louisa said with a sigh ‘on Christmas Eve everyone in the family went to my Uncle Tony and Aunty Angela’s place to meet up before we went to this big outdoor Carols by Candlelight and two of my cousins Finlay and Sarah asked be about my love life because they’d heard from Fred that I was dating you. They called me a desperate whore for dating a single father thirteen years older than me and they hoped it didn’t work out. They didn’t think it was becoming of someone of my social status and education should be dating a ‘lowly musician’ they totally shit it when they found out you’re of Jewish background. I was so upset it took Leisl an hour to calm me down. I haven’t cried that hard since we had that argument before I left’

Josh wrapped his arms around Louisa and hugged her tightly.
‘You didn’t deserve that’ he whispered as she began crying.

‘Josh it hurt me so much!’ Louisa sniffed ‘just when I was getting used to being in a relationship again and starting to feel confident about myself Fin and Sarah dump on me. Stupid bitches’

‘You don’t have to stop feeling confident about yourself because of what those girls said’ Josh said stroking her hair ‘it’s only the opinions of those who love you most they being your parents and brothers and sister and me that should matter. And what’s this about your social status?’

‘Back home my family is rather well known in the corporate and financial circles’ Louisa said ‘Mum is one of the leading lawyers for the Victoria department of public prosecutions and Dad’s an accountant for Price Waterhouse Coopers the biggest accounting firm in Australia. My whole family is loaded. We all went to the best high schools and Universities and Finlay got a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford to read medicine. Everyone in my family either studied law or medicine. Fin and Sarah think because I chose to study veterinary medicine I’m somehow not as good as them that my education is wasn’t as valuable as theirs. They also think it’s not a good look for me to be the last unmarried childless person in the whole family. I don’t know why they’re like that Jamie and Harry their brothers are two of my favourite people’

‘Well no offence sweetheart but they sound like a pair of snobs’ Josh said ‘so you didn’t study law or medicine big deal. What you do is no less valuable than what they do’

Louisa snuggled up to him.
‘Thanks’ she mumbled her voice muffled by his neck ‘I tell ya Christmas Day was awkward. I had to keep going off by myself for a bit of a cry’

‘Well that explains why you sounded like you had a cold when I rang you Christmas Day’ Josh said ‘you had been crying hadn’t you?’

‘Yeah I had been’ Louisa said sheepishly.

‘And you didn’t tell me’ Josh said ‘you should’ve you know I could’ve tried to make you feel better’

‘You did just by ringing’ Louisa said kissing him softly ‘one thing that is going to make me laugh one day is when you meet Sarah and Fin and they recognize who you are. They’re both cellists but know who you are. I so felt like screaming in their faces ‘I’m dating Joshua Bell who makes more money in a month than you two do in a year and has more of a heart than either of you two and he’s brilliant in bed. That would’ve shut their cats bum faces’

Josh let out a great snort of laughter.
‘Cats bum faces?’ he said with a chuckle.

‘Oh you know the puckered lips look anyone with a pole up their arse has’ Louisa said running her fingers through his hair ‘you know they’re the only two snobs in the whole family everyone else is cool’

‘I hope it didn’t ruin your Christmas’ Josh said pushing aside her shirt collar and kissing her neck.

‘Nah not totally’ Louisa replied shivering slightly as he nibbled on her neck ‘took the gloss off it a little though’

‘Can I put the gloss back on?’ Josh whispered huskily slipping his fingers under the waist of her trousers and kneading her backside.

‘Uh huh but this time we’re heading up to bed’ Louisa said kissing him then getting up and holding out a hand ‘come on’

Josh eagerly followed Louisa up the glass steps of the apartment to the second landing turning off the lights as he went. As soon as the bedroom door shut behind them he picked Louisa up carrying her over to the bed and laying her down on it. He pulled off his shirt and lay down next to her kissing her hungrily.

‘I need you’ he whispered huskily nibbling on her bottom lip.

‘Help me then’ Louisa moaned starting to undo her blouse.

Josh rushed to help Louisa strip off. With every spot of bare skin that appeared his kissed her, teasing her with what was to come.

‘You’re a tease Joshua Bell’ Louisa squeaked helping Josh out of the rest of his clothes ‘don’t prolong things please I need you’

Wordlessly Josh parted Louisa’s legs and dipped his head where he latched onto her warmness. As soon as intimate contact was made Louisa arched off the bed and squealed.

‘T-that’s n-n-ot FAIR!’ she groaned as Josh slipped two fingers into her and pumped them in and out.

Josh flicked her nub of arousal with his tongue feasting upon her warmness as if he were starving and her wetness was his only sustenance.

Josh nipped at the nape of her neck.

After a few moments of recovery Louisa wiggled out from under Josh and wrapped her fingers around his hardness.

‘I’ve thought about this every single day since I left’ Louisa breathed as Josh nibbled on the sensitive spot behind her right ear ‘I’ve missed you’

Josh groaned loudly as Louisa started pumping him.
‘I-I’ve m-missed you too’ he moaned huskily.

Louis pushed Josh down on the bed and trailed her tongue over his chest and abdomen before taking his arousal into her mouth. Josh gritted his teeth and swore loudly as her wet cavern enveloped him.

‘You’re the one that’s been away let me show you the good time’ Josh murmured kissing her softly ‘we’ve got all night there’s plenty of time for you to have your turn’

‘Aw but I’m on a roll’ Louisa pouted crossing her arms across her chest.

Wordlessly Josh grabbed her wrists and pushed her down onto the bed. He kissed her hungrily then positioned himself over her pushing his hardness into her tight warmth.

‘Shit!’ Louisa yelped wincing slightly.

‘Are you alright?’ Josh murmured in her ear.

‘Uh huh it’s just been a little while I have to readjust’ Louisa said holding him inside her ‘it’s a little like our first time. Go slow and I’ll be alright’

‘I don’t know how long I’ll be able to hold off sweetheart’ Josh said resting all his weight on his forearms and suckling on her neck ‘I really-‘

Louisa cut him off by putting a finger on his lips.
‘Kiss me’ she whispered ‘distract yourself. I’ll let you know when you can go hard’

Josh pressed his muscular body against Louisa’s and lowered his head to kiss her hungrily she responded with equal enthusiasm placing a hand on the back of his neck and drawing him in, the energy of the past two weeks without each other flowing through them like a tangible current of electricity. For his part Josh could feel the heat rising off Louisa’s body and as the minutes passed was finding it harder and harder to control himself. He started nibbling on her neck and thrusting into her with all the restraint he could muster, Louisa wrapped her legs around his hips and matched his moves.

‘Let go J I’m ready’ she moaned breathily ‘go hard I’ll match you’

‘Uh huh there’s time later on to take the boys with us’ Josh said entwining his legs with hers ‘it’ll be a miracle if he didn’t wake them up. My ears are still ringing because of you’

Louisa playfully slapped his chest.
‘You were pretty loud too Mr Bell’ she said with a giggle ‘I think we’re pretty safe. He slept through the entire ride back from the airport and you putting his pyjamas on. If that didn’t wake him up I doubt anything will. The Ice Skating and ball pits worked I think’

‘So next time I want to have some alone time with you I should tire him out during the day?’ Josh said with a chuckle as he nipped at her neck.

‘Well it worked this time’ Louisa replied with a giggle as Josh kissed a ticklish spot on her neck ‘ah you shit that tickles!’

Josh stopped and brushed her cheek.
‘It’s good to have you home sweetheart’ he said kissing the bridge of her nose.

‘It’s good to be home Josh it’s good to be home’
