Chapter 16: Pre New Years Eve
"How are the others doing?" Andy asked Ethan as she finished tying a knot. He looked over at the others and shook his head with a smile.
"Let's just say, they can't get it up." He said checking his rope and Andy stood up, looking over at the six others. Andy and Ethan were just about done with the three person tent. Everything was pretty much ready to go since they marked the spots yesterday.
Andy laid out everything while Ethan explained each part to them and they all nodded like they understood. Andy said whoever got done first would start working on the second tent. They nodded and Brian said that since there six of them they would beat them to it.
Andy and Ethan looked at each other and shook their heads. They told them good luck and they went off to work on the big tent.
Last night after Andy told everyone what she was going through she couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with love and care from everyone. They all started to feel like family to her and she couldn't be happier. Since October, she couldn't believe a lot has changed in her life. From just being a fan of one of her favorite bands, to now becoming really good friends, being able to get to know Lynn outside of the band, and magazine articles.
They all talked for a little while longer about their internal battles and a few tears were shed here and there. But they felt closer to each other. Everyone was opening up about what they were going through. As well as how the struggle of fighting the demons in their heads would always take a toll.
That's when Andy told everyone that every morning when she wakes up she thinks about the things that make her happy. Things that make it worth getting up in the morning. The first thing was always her family and who was going to take care of them if she was gone.
She told them what keeps her going is not only her Faith, but also her passions, and how she wants to change the world with her words. To say that just because some one is different doesn't mean they aren't perfect in their own way. Everyone has a uniqueness to them and everyone has a talent. Whether it's big or small, and everyone can change the world in some way. These are the reasons that kept her going. These are the reasons that push away the depression and the voices that tell she isn't good enough.
After her little speech everyone just looked at her with wide eyes and smiled. Angel, and Lynn had to wipe away a couple of stray tears. Ethan stood up and said that it was time for them to get some sleep. He also said after they set up the camp they should explore the basement and attic. Everyone agreed and they all started to get ready for bed. Andy helped Alex with the pull out couch and she noticed Kara standing there looking around nervously.
She asked her what was wrong and Kara said she didn't know where she was going to sleep. Andy was about to give up her room, if Lynn didn't mind sleeping with her in the downstairs spare room. But David spoke up and said that she could share the room with him. She looked at him with a nervous smile and he said that he would take the floor. Or sleep out in the living room on the other couch.
She shook her head and without a quick good night then she walked to the bedroom. Andy couldn't help but smile and took Lynn's hand. Everyone said good night. Andy made sure the lights were off before she walked into her bedroom and smiled at Lynn.
They got ready for bed and this time Andy asked if she could listen to a meditation instead of falling asleep to a movie. Lynn smiled and gave her a small kiss and told that it was okay with her. Andy smiled and looked through her phone and found her favorite one. Once it was all said and done the two gave each other a good night kiss and drifted off to sleep with the soft sounds of the meditation playing in the background.
The next morning, they loaded up the Jeep with the camp gear and they followed David to the campsite. They couldn't ask for better weather to set up. The sun was out and it was a little warmer than usual according to Alex. Andy said that it was perfect with a smile.
They unloaded the Jeep and everyone couldn't help but notice that Ethan and Andy were dressed in just long sleeve shirts, jeans, and their boots. They had their bonnet hats, sunglasses, and gloves. They knew the weather was going to get colder by the afternoon. They were all bundled up because of the slight breeze but Ethan and Andy were taking everything in stride.
Andy put the tents in the spots where the poles were and Ethan had everyone follow him. When Andy was done she started to lay out the parts and he was explaining everything. Every one just nodded as if they understood what he was saying, but deep down they had no idea. When he asked if they had any questions they shook their heads and smiled.
He nodded, gave them the instruction manual and went over to Andy and the two started to work on the big tent.
Now, the two best friends were putting the finishing touches on the big tent. Halfway through putting it up they started to get a little hot and took off their long sleeve shirts and now the both of them were in their tank tops. Lynn saw Andy take off her shirt and she couldn't help but blush. She blushed even more when she saw Andy's muscle's in action. Angel nudged her and then looked in her direction.
"Girl, if you don't tie that down I will." She said jokingly and Lynn gave her a playful push. Brian and Alex looked up and over at Andy and Ethan and saw what the women were looking at.
"Seriously? I feel like she has bigger muscles than me." Brian said a little out of breath. Alex couldn't help but notice how slightly toned Ethan was. He watched as Ethan pulled on some rope to tighten something up. He felt his cheeks become warmer for some reason. Lynn looked over at Alex and followed his gaze. She looked back and forth and it suddenly clicked for her. She didn't want to say anything. Not yet anyway. She wanted Alex to come to her first. For right all she could do was just keep her smile.
She turned her attention back to Andy and watched her pull on some rope as well. She felt a breath get caught in her throat. She swore the temperature rose at least sixty degrees. She was so lost in Andy that she didn't notice Mark showed up out of the blue.
"Hey guys," he said and everyone turned around and smiled.
"Hey Mark what's up?" Alex asked looking at two poles trying to figure them out.
"Well, news from the label again." He said just as Ethan and Andy were walking over. "Oh good, since you two are going on tour you can hear this too."
"What's up?" Ethan asked putting his hands on his hips and Andy crossed her arms.
"Well, the label wants to extend the North American tour until May. Then, we're heading off to Europe for some music festivals. Coachella is included in the tour as well. Both weekends. They also asked if Lynn wouldn't mind doing the tour announcement. The last stop would be in Maine. Plus two intimate shows in California. I know it was supposed to be a small tour, but since you three have been doing so well they just want to give you more exposure."
"Does Justin know?" Brian asked.
Mark nodded, "He's coming to town in a few days. We start rehearsals in few weeks. I just wanted to let you know."
"I hate doing those things," Lynn said and Andy came up to her and stood next to her.
"I know it's not what we wanted. But your social medias are blowing up with your fans and also this is coming from Melissa, but she wants you and Andy to become official as soon as possible."
Andy took off her sunglasses and looked at Mark, "What? Now?" She asked and he nodded.
"Can I talk to you alone for a minute?" She started to walk away from the group and Mark followed her with a confused look. When she thought she was far enough she stopped and waited for him.
"What's going on?"
"I plan on making it official tomorrow night." She said and his eyes went wide.
"Do you want me to tell Melissa?"
Andy shook her head, "No, she'll find out through a post I'm going to do. Kara already gave me the go ahead for it. I plan on asking Lynn right at Midnight to be my girlfriend."
Mark smiled and put a hand on her shoulder, "About time."
Andy smiled, "Honestly I feel like it's too soon. I didn't have enough time to court her. But I just don't want her to think I'm doing this just because Melissa said so."
"Who else knows that you're going to do this?"
"Just Ethan and Kara. I'm sure the others will find out soon too. But I was going to ask David if I could have his permission to ask Lynn."
"Well aren't you old fashioned. Why don't we settle that right now? HEY DAVID!"
"MARK!" Andy said in a loud whisper. David looked over at them and saw Mark waving him over.
"Wonder what they want." Alex said as he watched David walk towards them. Everyone shrugged and went back to trying to figure out how to build the one tent they've been working on since they got there. Kara looked up and saw Ethan already starting on the second tent.
"Are you kidding me?! He's starting the second tent already and we haven't even gotten the poles together." She said with a frustrated sigh.
"I had to open my big mouth." Brian said shaking his head as he tried to tye a knot only for it to come loose again.
"What are we doing wrong?" Lynn asked trying to read the instruction manual.
"What's up guys?" David asked when he reached Andy and Mark.
"Andy has something to ask you." He said patting David on the back and started to walk back over to the group. Andy shook her head and watched Mark walk away.
"Everything okay?" David asked and she nodded. She looked up at him and took a deep breath.
"I was actually going to ask you about this later tonight, but um," she started to play with her sunglasses that were in her hands.
"Yes?" David asked trying to hide his smile. He had an idea of what Andy wanted to ask, but he wanted her to get it out.
Andy cleared her throat and looked at David, "Well, I'm kind of old fashioned and I guess it's the 'Southern Gentleman' in me, okay well woman. But um," she looked over at Lynn and smiled as she watched her for a few moments. David followed her gaze and shook his head.
"Yes," he said looking back at her.
Her head snapped back at him and chuckled, "I didn't even ask you."
He put a hand on her shoulder and took a small step closer to her, "It's either you want to marry her, or you want to be her girlfriend. I'm pretty sure it's too soon to ask for her hand in marriage."
Andy laughed and nodded, "Thank you for giving me your blessing."
"If I'm being honest, I thought you were gonna ask her on Christmas Day." He said and put his arm around her shoulders. They started to walk towards the group.
Andy shook her head, "I did ask her out on a date and we've had three proper ones. But I normally court before I ask. Plus I wasn't sure how these next few months were gonna go. Well, until my Uncle called and said the restaurant wouldn't be ready for a while."
David nodded, "I gotta say Andy, she's really taken to you, and you her. She's had crushes before but nothing like this, not even with Alexa. We talk every day and she mostly talks about you. It's like you hit a switch or something. But I do have to give you the obligated, 'If you hurt her, I hurt you' spill. You know I gotta do my job as the big brother."
Andy laughed as they came to a stop just a couple of yards away from the group, "I understand. I gotta tell ya, I never thought I would see myself here. It all started that night in October. I know it's only been two months, but I can't wait to see what the future holds."
David smiled and gave her a hug which she returned. When they pulled away Lynn came up to them and smiled, "So, we have no idea what we're doing." She said with a laugh.
Andy shook her head, "I'll be right there." Lynn gave her a kiss on her cheek and trotted off back to her friends.
"David, last night, did you sleep on the floor?"
She asked him and he shook his head, "No, Kara wouldn't let me. So I slept on one side of the bed and she on the other. We did have kind of an awkward morning though."
"What do you mean?" She asked crossing her arms.
He just shrugged, "Well, I kinda woke up with my arm around her. Then, she kinda pulled me closer to her." He said rubbing the back of his neck.
Andy couldn't help but smile, "Dude, I saw the way she looked at you last night. I think she likes you, and you her."
"What should I do?"
"Honestly, just let it play out. See how it goes, start small, maybe go for coffee one day, or just hang out for a day. Just feel it out. Who knows, you two might connect."
David nodded with a smile, "Think I'll do that."
Andy patted him on the back, "Come on, I think I'll send y'all on a food run or something. Since you can't seem to pitch a tent."
"I think that's a good idea." He said with a laugh and they started to walk towards the campsite.
**********************************************************************************
"You have got to be kidding me," Alex said as David pulled up into the parking lot. When he did; Alex who was in the passenger side saw that Ethan and Andy had set up the entire camp while they were gone.
When Andy and David returned to the group Mark said he had to get going and get ready for tomorrow. They all said bye to him as he walked away. Andy suggested that everyone but her and Ethan go and get something to eat. They would bring it back and they could all eat around the campsite to get a feel for it.
"How about a bet?" Alex asked with a smirk. Andy walked over to Ethan and they gave each other a smirk and they discreetly gave each other a fist bump.
"What's the bet?" Kara asked.
"If these two finish setting up camp by the time we get back. The five of us clean up and breakdown camp day after tomorrow." Alex said.
"Wait, isn't Kara joining us too?" Angel asked and Kara shook her head.
"As much as I want too, I can't I have plans with other friends in New York City." Andy couldn't help but notice the slight disappointment in David's face.
"And if we don't finish?" Ethan asked crossing his arms.
"Same deal. If you don't finish then, you two clean up and breakdown camp." Alex held out his hand, "Deal?"
Andy shook her head and took his hand; they shook on it, "Damn Andy! Gotta grip!" He said with a laugh. She laughed and just shrugged, then Alex held out his hand for Ethan and he did the same. Only this time the both of them felt a small shock. Ethan played it off as if he didn't feel anything and Alex hid his surprise.
Brian walked up to the two of them and shook their hands, "Not a deal if we all don't agree," he said with a laugh. Everyone laughed and shook hands locking in the deal. David said that he would text one of them when they found a place and ask what they would want. They nodded and watched as the six of them started to walk away.
They were about to get started on the tent that Ethan was working on when Alex turned around, "Hey! To make it even harder wait ten minutes after we leave!" He shouted out to them.
Ethan and Andy laughed, "Whatever you say!" Andy said and looked at her watch. The two of them crossed their arms and watched as they got into David's SUV and waited. Andy looked at her watch and started to time them after they left the parking lot.
When the ten minutes were up they both decided to make it go faster they would each take one of the tents. Ethan joked about how he already had a head start. Since he was working on the one that the others couldn't put up. Andy laughed and shook her head.
Ethan was almost finished with his tent and Andy wasn't too far behind him. Even though he started before her. That was when Andy's cell phone started to ring. She stopped what she was doing and walked over to Ethan, telling him it was David.
"So much for a text," he joked as Andy smiled and put David on speaker so they both could hear him.
"Hey we just stopped at a fast food joint. Are you two okay with burgers and fries?"
They heard and Ethan looked at Andy who just shrugged, "Think I'll be okay."
"Are you sure?" He asked and Andy thought for a moment.
"Do they have any chicken wraps or a grilled chicken sandwich?" She asked.
"Uh, hold on." He said and they heard him asking about a wrap or a chicken sandwich. After a few more minutes they heard his voice again, "Yeah they have a grilled chicken wrap, with lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing."
"Okay, that sounds good. Thank you. I'm good on the fries though, the wrap will be enough to tie me over."
"Okay, and Ethan, burger and fries okay with you?" David asked through the phone.
"Most definitely. Burgers are life." He said laughing along with Andy.
"Awesome. Andy, Brian and Lynn said you don't drink any soda, I'll see if they have lemonade or something. Ethan what about you to drink?"
"Mountain Dew if they have it. If not, Pepsi is fine."
"Got it. We'll see you guys in a few and be prepared to clean up!"
"Oooooo we'll see. See y'all soon." Andy smiled and shook her head. David said bye and the two went back to work.
Once they finished the tents, they started to make the fire pit. That took them a little longer than expected because they didn't expect the snow to be so deep. When they finally got it to where they wanted it to be; Andy started to make the barrier around it. She looked at her watch and wondered where they others were.
Ethan brought over some lawn chairs from the Jeep and started to set it up around the fire pit. After he set them up he started to look around and started to walk away from the camp. Andy looked up and watched him walk away. She stood straight up and watched him pick up something in the distance and started to walk back towards her.
When he came back she smiled as he threw down a log that was big enough to have at least four people on it. He told her that he saw a couple more and he started to walk back over to the same area.
When he brought them back they started to dig out some of more of the snow that was around the fire pit. When it was cleared out they started to re set up the chairs and the logs. They looked around and smiled at each other and gave each other a high hive.
"Do we know which sleeping back is who's?" Ethan asked.
Andy shrugged, "Um I don't think so. Are all seven in the Jeep?"
"I'll go check." Ethan said and started to walk away from the campsite. When he got to the Jeep he opened up the back door and looked inside. He saw the sleeping bags and laughed.
"ANDY!" He called out to her and she looked up seeing him wave her over. He didn't say a word when she met him. All he did was point to the sleeping bags and she shook her head. All the sleeping bags were the same color.
"You would think they would pick different colors." She said and started to grabbing some of them.
"Yeah, you would," he said grabbing the rest of them. He closed the back door and they walked back to the site to set up the sleeping bags in the tents. It didn't take them long to set up the sleeping bags. They took one more look around and smiled at each other. They gave each other a high five and they each took a seat in a lawn chair.
"I wonder how much longer they're going to be." Andy said.
Ethan shrugged, "Let's just enjoy this sunlight." He said leaning back in his chair with his hands behind his head. Andy agreed and did the same thing.
"If only we had some beer. It would make this perfect." Ethan said mostly to himself.
"I hear you on that." Andy replied.
The six were getting out of David's SUV and each of them had a look of disbelief on their faces. They couldn't believe that the two of them were able to set up not only the three tents, but the fire pit as well. They watched as Andy tossed Ethan his shirt that he had on earlier and they both put their shirts back on. As they got closer they could hear the conversation the two were having.
"It's crazy! Dude I swear, next to those lucid dreams I've had, this almost tops it." Andy said sitting back down in her chair.
"You HAVE to tell me what yours says when you read it." Ethan said slowly shaking his head after hearing about Andy's dream. They both heard snow crunching and they saw the others walking up to them slowly. The two best friends looked at each other and smiled. They stood up and faced the others.
Ethan threw his arms up and said, "Welcome to Camp New Year!" Andy rolled her eyes and laughed.
"How?"
"Wha-?"
"No way"
They heard and the other three were speechless. They didn't know what to say.
Andy walked up to them, "So are we gonna eat or what? Cause I'm starving." She started to reach for the take out bags as they were just staring at the campsite. Ethan came over and started to do the same.
"Uh, bro, I think they're in shock." He said.
She nodded, "They'll come out of it soon enough." They took the bags over to the fire pit and they started to look through them.
Brian looked around and put his hands on his head, "I gotta learn how to do this stuff."
"You and me both," David said slowly walking to one of the lawn chairs and sat down.
Everyone else followed his lead and Andy walked up to him and held out one of the take out bags, "I don't know who got what," she said with small laugh.
He shook his head and chuckled, "Sorry, I was just taken back of what you two did." He took the bag and started to look through it.
"How much do we owe you?" Ethan asked reaching for his wallet.
Alex waved him off, "Don't worry about it. You guys set this up and you let us stay at your place more than once. Least we could do for you guys."
Ethan and Andy thanked them as David was passing out the food everyone. Andy was sitting on one of the logs and Lynn came over to join her. Andy smiled and kissed her cheek when she sat down.
"How long were we gone for?" She asked.
Andy shrugged, "No idea. I did check the time when we finished the fire pit. I thought for sure you guys would have been back by then. What took you guys so long?" She asked as David gave her the wrap she asked for.
"Well we did have to order for eight people," Brian said as he took a bite of his wrap. Andy nodded she couldn't argue with what he said.
"So, how did you guys get this done?" Kara asked sitting in the lawn chair next to David.
Andy had a mouthful of food and she looked at Ethan. He met her gazed and smiled, "I'm from Wisconsin originally and I used to go camping with my Uncle every December before I moved to Virginia. Andy, goes hunting with her dad every year when deer season comes around. They go for about what two weeks?" He looked at her for clarification and she nodded since she still chewing on her food.
Ethan laughed, "Slow down there buddy."
Andy shook her head and was finally able to talk, "Sorry, but I kinda skipped breakfast this morning. Only had some coffee, and then we were out the door." She picked up her cup and took a sip but before she could swallow it she stood up and shook her head.
"Andy?" Lynn asked. Andy quickly put down her wrap and walked away from everyone and spit out the liquid that was in her mouth. She used her sleeve to wipe her mouth. For a moment she thought she was going to vomit.
"Shit," David said. He got up and took her drink cup. He opened it up and saw the dark liquid.
"Guys, check your drinks. Andy's drink is supposed to be a fruit juice." Hey said and everyone checked. They looked around and shook their heads just as Andy was coming back.
"Fuck! I told them six Pepsis', a Mountain Dew and a fruit juice. I'm so sorry Andy." He said looking at her.
She waved him off, "It's all good. Not your fault. I think there's a bottle of water in the Jeep. I'll go grab it. Really it's okay David. Just took me by surprise when I tasted it." She told him with a smile and gave him a pat on the back and started to go in the direction of the Jeep.
Ethan watched her walk to the Jeep and he couldn't help but notice her slight limp. He excused himself and started to follow Andy. Everyone watched him walk in the same direction.
"It's like he knows her better than anyone else." Angel said and everyone agreed.
When Andy got to the Jeep she opened the passenger door and sure enough there was a bottle of water in the cup holder she had earlier. She grabbed it and closed the door, turning around she saw Ethan walking up to her.
"How's your knee? You didn't bring your brace today." He said.
Andy looked down at her left leg and then closed her eyes, "I wasn't thinking. Like I said we kinda rushed out this morning."
"I just noticed you limping a little on your way here. Did you bring anything for pain?" He was really concerned.
She nodded, "Yeah I brought some Motrin, but it's back at the house. I'll take some we get back. Promise." He nodded and she really looked at him.
"This is more about my knee isn't it?" She asked and he nodded.
She pulled him in for a hug, "We'll talk about it more when we get back to Virginia."
They pulled away from each other, "Do you want to come to my appointment with me?"
All he could do was nod and she did too, "Okay, hey, look at me."
He raised his eyes to hers and she smiled, "Let's enjoy this time with them and then we can get back to the real world. Plus we have an extended vacation soon as we get to Georgia."
He smiled and nodded, "I love you, I just wanted you to know that."
She smiled and hugged him once more, "I love you. Asshole."
"Bitch." They pulled away from each other and they started to walk back over to the campsite. Tomorrow was a brand new day and tomorrow night they would all ring in the New Year together.
**********************************************************************************
"There's so much history here!" Alex said looking through an old photo album.
Angel walked over and joined him, "Oh look at that one! That's at the Winchester House!" Andy's head whipped around and walked over to them and looked at the picture.
"Were they related to Sarah?" She asked.
Ethan walked over to Lynn, "That's on her bucket list."
She looked at him confused and he smiled, "To go to the Winchester Mystery House. Ever since that show 'Scariest Places On Earth,' she's always wanted to go. Then, she saw her favorite paranormal show investigate it, twice and it made her want to go even more."
"It's in California right?" She asked. Not looking up at her Ethan nodded as he looked into a box.
"Hey Andy, I found some first edition books." David said.
Andy walked over to him and she read some of the titles and her eyes went wide, "Holy fuck!" She got really excited and started to carefully handle one of the books. She felt like a little kid in a toy store at the moment.
Before they returned back to the town house, Andy and Ethan returned to the site and they finished their lunches. Kara started to collect everyone's trash and David offered to help. Before she could say anything he started to clean up as well.
"When we leave here, we should stop at the grocery store." Andy said looking around.
"Why?" Angel asked.
Andy turned her attention to her, "Gotta get some food, drinks, and even though there's snow, maybe some ice, some fire wood, also I think three big coolers should do the trick."
"We don't need to buy coolers. I have one and I think Brian's parents have a couple we could use."
"I'll be in charge of the alcohol!" Ethan said raising his hand. Everyone laughed, "I'll take request when we hit town."
"Or we could split up. A couple of us go and get the food, fire wood, and non alcoholic drinks, and the others get the alcohol." Andy said with a smile and they all nodded.
"I do hate to be the party pooper but, I do need to get back and get ready. I have to leave tonight for NYC. I still have to get my stuff from Andy and Ethan's place." Kara said when she and David returned from throwing away their trash.
"I don't mind taking your back." David said. Andy stood up and took out her keys and looked at Ethan. He didn't say a word and took out his keys and gave her a thumbs up.
She took the town house key off her key ring and gave it to David, "Just give it back to me when we meet back up." He nodded and put it on his key ring.
They all stood up and they each gave Kara a hug and told her to have a safe and Happy New Year. Before she left she did pull Andy aside so they could talk.
"Are you nervous?" She asked.
Andy nodded, "A little bit. I mean it's not every day I ask a rock star to be my girlfriend."
Kara smiled, "Do you know how you're going to do it?"
She smiled back at her and nodded, "Yeah, when there's about thirty or fifteen seconds left I'll just come right out and ask her. Give her time to process and hopefully when the clock strikes Midnight I'll have my answer."
"Then, you're posting a picture or video?"
Again Andy nodded, "With her permission first, of course. I just I don't normally ask out some one after about two months."
"Why not?"
Andy shook her head and crossed her arms, "I court a girl for about six months. You know kinda like what they did way back in the day. But back then the gentleman would take the woman he was interested in for walks or send her a letter. Show up with a trinket for her or a flower. Stuff like that."
"Why can't you be a guy?" Kara said.
Andy laughed, "I get that a lot. I asked David for permission to ask Lynn."
Kara shook her head, "So old fashioned I love it." Andy shrugged and smiled.
"What about you? Are you going to have a Midnight Kiss tomorrow night?" Andy asked. Kara looked over at David and saw him talking to Lynn and Alex.
"We'll see. NYC is a magical place on New Years Eve." Kara smiled and turn her attention back to Andy who just smiled at her. David walked up to them and smiled. He asked if Kara was ready to go and she nodded. She gave Andy a hug and wished her good luck for tomorrow night. Andy thanked her as they let go of each other and she watched as David and Kara walked towards his SUV.
She turned and walked back over to the group and took her seat on the log and smiled. Lynn took a seat next to her and kissed her cheek. She hooked her arm with hers and put her head on her shoulder. Andy kissed the top of her head and smiled. She looked around at her friends laughing and talking. She wished every day could be like this. Everyone just being so care free and just having a good time.
She was brought out of her thoughts when she heard Ethan's voice, "Sorry what?" Ethan smiled at her.
"I said how do you want to spilt up?"
"Who ever wants to go with me." Alex and Angel raised their hands and she smiled. "I guess you get Lynn and Brian, to make the alcohol run."
"That works out perfect because Brian knows what Alex's likes, Lynn knows what David and I like, and you know what Andy likes." Angel said.
Andy gave her a weird look. Angel shook her head, "I know it's weird but it works. Food wise Alex knows what Brian likes, I know what Lynn and David like and you know what Ethan likes. Again I know weird how my boyfriend knows his best friend and band mate more than me." They all laughed with Brian and Alex agreeing with Angel.
"Alright, we better get going before the stores run out of stuff we need since tomorrow is gonna be pretty busy." Andy said standing up. Ethan stood up and checked the tents to make sure all three tents were closed and there were little locks on the zipper so that no one could get in them.
"I know the perfect spot where we could go and hit everything at once." Brian said looking at Andy and she gave him a nod.
"We'll meet you guys at the Jeep. We just wanna do a final check to make sure no one is going to mess with the tents." Andy said as Ethan was grabbing something out of sight. The four nodded and started to walk towards the Jeep.
"So how are we going take this down without them knowing tomorrow?" Ethan asked giving her a pair of wire cutters.
Andy turn around, "I'll head out a couple of hours early and take them down. You let me know when everyone starts to stir awake. I'll just come back with coffee from Dunkin or Starbucks, as a cover."
"Sounds good." They fist bumped and started to set up a small perimeter trap around the camp so that it wasn't messed with overnight.
When they came back to the town house they put everything away and decided in the morning Angel, Brian, and David would pick up the coolers. Then meet everyone at the campsite when they would leave in the morning. Everyone decided to change into more comfortable clothes while Ethan and Andy took turns taking showers.
After their showers they decided to take the five of them through the basement and show them the passage way they found. When they got to the attic they wanted to explore. But Andy wanted to call the couple that they were renting from first to make sure it was okay.
Everyone waited for about ten minutes while she was on the phone. After she ended the phone call she said that they got to go ahead but just to be careful. Everyone smiled and started to carefully look through the boxes.
She and David were looking through the books when they heard some music playing. They looked up and smiled when Angel was walking away from an old record player that still worked.
The music coming from the record sounded like it was from the 1940's. Angel took Brian's hands and they started to dance. Without thinking Andy walked over to Lynn and offered her hand, which she gladly took. Alex, Ethan, and David looked at each other and smiled. They put their arms around each other and started to sway to the music. It was a nice little up beat song and Lynn couldn't help but hear Andy hum along to the song as if she knew it.
"You know this?" Lynn asked looking at her.
Andy shrugged, "It sounds familiar. Might have heard it when I was a kid at my grandparents place in Georgia or something. I'm sure I've heard it before." Lynn smiled and before she could lean in to give her a small kiss Andy's phone started to ring.
They stopped dancing and she took out her phone from her pocket, "It's my dad, I'm sorry."
She kissed Lynn on her forehead and answered her phone, "Hey dad what's up?"
Ethan watched as Andy walked away from Lynn on her phone. He broke away from Alex and David and walked over to Lynn and smiled. He bowed and held out his hand and she smiled and took his hand.
"She's really close with her family huh?" She asked.
Ethan nodded, "Yeah, family means a lot to her. Especially now in light of recent events."
"Wait what do you mean there's going to be mix doubles this year?" Ethan heard Andy say into her phone.
"What does that mean?" She asked.
"More sports I'm sure," Ethan said smiling as he spun her.
"Wait, Shaun White's coming back?! I thought he retired! He's gonna be seeking redemption after Sochi."
"Okay, so it's either X-Games or the Winter Olympics." Ethan said shaking his head.
"Ski half pipe?! WHAT?! How are they gonna pull that off?! I don't remember that in Sochi!" At this point everyone stopped dancing and started to watch Andy pace back and forth while on her phone with her dad.
Angel walked over to the record player and gently turned off the music. Watching Andy on the phone was more entertaining at this point.
"Hopefully Vonn doesn't crash again. I mean, besides snowboarding we pretty much suck at the Winter Games."
"You have to be kidding me," Ethan said under his breath. Lynn looked at him with a confused look. He took out his phone and looked up when the Winter Olympics were and most of it was during the time they would be on tour.
"What's up?" Alex asked taking a few steps over to him.
Ethan sighed and looked at him, "So Andy loves the Olympics like A LOT! Well it looks like it starts in February, and some of the events are happening when we're on tour with you guys. So I'm pretty sure her mind will be of course on the tour, but her down time will be on checking the medal count and stats of all the events."
"Of course Russia is banned. That doesn't surprise me." Andy said and she found a chair and she sat down.
"I'm gonna have to download the app, because I'll be traveling for a while. But I won't miss the opening ceremonies or the closing ceremonies. What the hell is Big Air?!"
"Since when did the Olympics become the X-Games?!" Andy put her head in her hand and shook her head.
"She's gonna mention curling in a few minutes," Ethan told everyone. Just then Alex phone started to ring. He excused himself and took a few steps away from the group.
"We might take bronze in curling." Andy said and Ethan smiled and crossed his arms. He stood tall and proud. Angel and Lynn couldn't help but roll their eyes at him, but with smiles on their faces. Alex came back over to them and tapped Lynn on her shoulder and gave her his phone.
"It's one of the magazines we go through, they lost your number and found mine." Lynn nodded and took his phone and took a few steps away from the group.
"What did I miss?" Alex asked crossing his arms. He saw Andy look at her watch and nodded.
"Yeah, I'll download it the day before. The time change is gonna kill me but I'll be sure to watch the recaps if I can. Thanks for the heads up. Happy New Year, love you too, bye." Andy hung up her phone and stood up from the chair. She put her phone in her pocket and looked up and saw five people staring at her.
"What?" She asked raising her shoulders.
Angel smiled and shook her head, "You're such a jock."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Andy asked with a confused look.
Ethan walked up to her and put a hand on her shoulder, "I think she means to say that you love sports a little too much."
"What's wrong with that?" She asked with a smile and went back over to the box that had the books and started to look through them again. Lynn came back over to the group with a daze look. She gave Alex his phone back and shook her head.
"What's up?" He asked and she didn't know if she wanted to smile or frown. Andy stopped looking through the box and joined the the group.
"Um, that magazine wants me to be on the cover for their February issue. I told them that I wouldn't do it without you two though." She said looking at Brian and Alex.
Both of their eyes went wide and they smiled, "Lynn! You have to do it!" Brian said.
"We've done covers before, but everyone is looking to you! Do you not realize how much of a role model you've become to a lot of people out there?! This is huge!" Alex said and wrapped his arms around her as did Brian. Lynn was surprised by their reactions and couldn't help but let out a teary smile.
"I love you guys! But I wouldn't be here without you two. You know that!"
Brian and Alex let go of her and they both nodded. "But look at where we are now compared to eight years ago. We're selling out shows, we're headlining tours, and we're going to Coachella! We've been on covers, we've won awards, and now you're soloing a magazine issue! We couldn't ask for a better person to do it!" Brian said and kissed her cheek and Alex kissed her other cheek. They took a step back and Angel walked up to her and wrapped her arms around her.
"This is amazing! I can't wait to see it!" She said and let her go.
It was David's turn to give his little sister a hug. "You deserve this," he whispered to her as he hugged her and kissed her forehead. He gave her a gentle squeeze and then took a step back.
Ethan was next and he smiled as he walked up to her, "You've touched so many people just by being you. It's no wonder they're giving this to you." She nodded and smiled as they hugged.
Once they let go she met Andy's smiling face and she couldn't help but let out a small happy sob. She rushed up to Andy and wrapped her arms around her. Andy picked her up and spun them around a couple of times.
She put her down and moved a stray hair from Lynn's face, "I'm so proud of you. You've earned this. You've worked hard for this. You, Alex, and Brian mean so much to so many people. You're touching hearts, you're not letting anyone's bullshit drag you down. You keep your head up and you keep going. You're strong, you have an amazing heart, you're humble, and you are passionate. You're still you after everything, you stay true to who you are. Don't let anyone ever change you."
Lynn didn't know what to say. She leaned in and their lips met. Andy smiled into the kiss and lifted her up again and they spun around. They pulled away from each other and Lynn let her head back and laughed as Andy put her down.
"I don't mean to break this up, but what's for dinner?" Alex asked.
"Seriously? Why is it always food with you?" Angel asked rolling her eyes. Everyone laughed and Alex just shrugged.
"How about Ethan and I cook everyone something? I think we've been eating out too much lately." Andy said and everyone nodded.
"I could use a home cooked meal. What do you have in mind?" Brian asked.
Ethan and Andy shrugged, "Looks like it's blind cooking night." Ethan said with a smile.
"My kind of night. Come on, let's check out what we got and y'all can chill out and watch some TV or a movie or something." Andy said and they all agreed. With Ethan leading them out of the attic they continued to talk about Lynn's cover shoot and how they were proud and excited for her. They couldn't wait to see what the issue was going look like.
***********************************************************************************
"Dinner's ready!" Andy called from the kitchen. Alex jumped over the couch and rushed to the kitchen and everyone laughed at him.
"Whoa! Slow down there bud!" Andy said as she watch Alex slide into the kitchen and almost fall.
"I'm sorry, but whatever you were cooking smells so good! My stomach is eating itself!" Alex said as he took a seat at the dining table. Ethan shook his head as he set the last plate on the table. Everyone walked in and took seats around the table and they all could agree with Alex on how good the smell was.
Before Lynn went to the table she went over to Andy. Standing behind her she wrapped her arms around her, "I believe you owe me a kiss." Andy smiled and wiped her hands on a dish towel.
She turned around, "I do. I'm sorry, my dad and I get crazy when it comes to anything sports. I was kind of a jock when I was a kid. But then focused a lot on academics and theatre in high school."
Lynn smiled and shook her head, "I find it hard to believe you focused more on school than sports."
Andy laughed and nodded, "Well it's true. Three days before graduation I was told that I had enough of a GPA to graduate with honors but some how they missed me and like fifteen others."
"I would have protested." Lynn said giving Andy a small kiss.
Andy just shrugged, "And I would have ruined my reputation." She said and leaned in and gave her a kiss, but this time she made sure it lasted a little longer.
"Oh my God! You two can get it on later! I'm starving!" Alex said rolling his eyes. They laughed as they pulled away from each other and Lynn walked over to the table and took a seat. While Ethan was placing homemade garlic bread on the smaller plates.
"Andy you ready?" He asked and she nodded. He grabbed Brian's and Angel's plate and walked over to her. He set the two plates on the counter and she started to plate the dish the two had prepared. Ethan walked back to the table and then grabbed Lynn and David's plate. He was purposely making Alex last.
He came back with Angel and Brian's plates and their eyes widened when they looked down at the food. Ethan then grabbed his plate, then Andy's and finally Alex's. Andy just finished plating Lynn and David's plate just as Ethan carried the last three plates.
When he brought Lynn and David's plate he looked over at Alex who looked like he was about to cry. Because he didn't have a plate of food in front of him.
"Alex you need to stop looking like some one shot your dog." Lynn said laughing with a shake of her head.
"It just looks so fucking good and I'm so damn hungry!" He said and Ethan finally came back with the last three plates. He set his down, then Andy's then finally Alex. Ethan watched as Alex closed his eyes and inhaled deeply and then let it out.
"This smells so good! What is it?" He asked and they heard a loud crash where Andy was.
"FUCK!" She yelled and Ethan rushed over to her. She was on the ground grabbing her left knee.
"What happened?" He asked when he got over to her. She shook her head and leaned back taking in a deep breath. She let it out and laid back on the kitchen floor.
"Andrea, what happened?!" Ethan asked again.
"I slipped on something and I couldn't get my right leg to get the blow so my left knee took it and then it knocked into the fucking cabinet door handle! Something popped dude! I don't what happened but something popped!" She let out an painful groan. Ethan stood up and looked at everyone. They were standing up and he knew they wanted to come over.
He held up his hands, "Go ahead and eat guys. I need to call her dad first."
"But," David said standing up.
Ethan just pointed at him, "Eat!" Every one looked at Ethan with a stunned expression and sat back down. He grabbed his phone and called her dad. After explaining what happened Andy's dad told him to switch to video chat to see if he could see any swelling.
Since Andy's dad was a Corpsman in the Navy she would always go to him first for any medical reason. When Ethan switched to the video chat mode he showed him Andy's knee. Andy started to explain to her dad what happened and he told her that he sees some redness and that she should be okay.
He asked if she could stand and she shook her head saying that she hasn't tried yet. He told Ethan to help her up and to gently start putting weight on her leg. If it was painful go to the E.R. to get an X-Ray. If not just put some ice on it and take some Motrin for the swelling.
Ethan told Andy's dad to hold on while he got her up. Ethan went behind Andy to help her up. He placed his arms under hers and he counted to three. With another painful groan and the help of Ethan they stood up. Andy put her hands on the counter for support and Ethan stayed behind her.
Andy caught her breath and started to slowly add weight to her left leg. Ethan slowly started to let go of her, as she used the counter as her crutch to help her walk a step. Ethan stood behind her ready to catch her if he had to.
She took another step, and waited a few moments and took another one. There was slight pain for her but not so much. She looked down at her knee and saw a small bruise starting to form around her scar. She let go of the counter and started to walk on her own. Ethan picked up his phone and started to tell her dad that she walking on her own, she just had a limp at the moment.
He said that it was a good sign that she was able to walk on her own. But for the next few days wear her brace and be careful. He told her to put ice on it and take some Motrin tonight and keep an eye on it. If the bruising gets worst and turns a certain color go to the ER as soon as possible.
Andy nodded and limped back over to the counter. They said bye to her dad and she started to walk around again just to get her bearings.
Ethan started to work on an ice pack for her. He found a zip lock bag and went to the freezer to fill it with some ice. Before he closed up the bag he let out any extra air. He closed the freezer and held out his arm for Andy to take. She gave him a weak smile and took his arm. Using him as her crutch they started to walk slowly to the dining table. He helped her sit down and used moved one of the chairs over to her so she could put up her leg. Before he put the bag of ice on her knee he rushed back over to the counter and grabbed a dish towel.
Lynn took Andy's hand and she looked at her with a small smile. "I'm okay," she whispered.
Lynn put her other hand over hers and Andy gave her a small squeeze. "I think you should get it checked out."
Ethan place the dish towel over her knee and then gently placed the bag of ice on top.
He looked at her and she nodded. "If it gets worse I'll go. But I'm able to walk so that's a good sign. I'm not missing out on anything while I'm here. We have a few more days left and I don't want one of them to be spent in the hospital." She kissed the back of Lynn's hand and gave her a wink.
"Are you okay?" Angel asked.
Still looking at Lynn she answered, "Yeah, I'll be okay. If it gets any worse I'll go have it checked out." After a few more moments looking at Lynn for a few more moments she turned to everyone and gave them a reassuring smile.
"I've had worse trust me," she said still smiling.
"Come on let's eat. Alex is pretty much almost done with his plate." She said and Alex looked up from his plate with a mouthful.
"What?" he said and everyone just laughed.
"What did you guys make? Because this is seriously really good." David said.
Andy shrugged, "Just our take on a dish we haven't really done in a while. Fruit De Mer in a white sauce with penne. Added some broccoli, yellow and red bell peppers for color and flavor. Hint of garlic butter for flavor and thickness. Plus I like using garlic butter anyway. Much easier and it tastes better."
"You two ever think about becoming personal chefs?" Angel asked. Ethan and Andy looked at each other and started to laugh. Everyone looked confused and when the two were done laughing Andy took in a deep breath and let it out.
"I'm sorry, we don't mean to laugh, it's just we've been asked that before." Andy said looking at Angel with an apologetic smile.
"We're just so used to a fast pace type of cooking that when we cook at home we always wonder what's taking so long and we get impatient." Ethan explained.
"So just imagine you're trying to have a romantic meal with your spouse and you have me and Ethan in your kitchen pretty much making a mess of things. Yelling at each other on what to plate and how to plate it." Andy said adjusting her ice bag.
"But we didn't hear you guys while we were waiting." Brian pointed out.
"Well, that's because we're comfortable with all of you, and you've had our cooking before. Well the three of you have." Ethan said pointing at Brian, Lynn, and Alex.
"Granted it was at our work, but you know what we can do." He finished and Andy nodded.
"Besides half the time we're lazy and we do the quick meals we could just pop in the oven or microwave."
"Or your mom just brings over a shit ton of Filipino food." Ethan said with a small chuckle.
Andy nodded her head, "That she does."
"I gotta try some Filipino food!" Angel said and everyone nodded.
"You have GOT to try Andy's lumpia! So fucking good!" Ethan said finishing his plate and standing up. He started to collect the empty plates and Angel stood up.
"Okay, you two go into the living room and we'll take care of the kitchen this time." She told them.
"Are you sure?" Andy asked.
Lynn stood up, nodding her head, "You two have done a lot for us lately and have put up with a lot of our stuff. Least we could do." She kissed Andy's forehead and smiled. Ethan came over and helped Andy up as she struggled because her leg was straightened out for so long. He picked up her ice bag and the dish towel.
"I'll help to the couch and get you a new one." He said and she nodded. They started to walk out of the kitchen and this time the pain wasn't as bad as before. She was able to walk a little better but still had a limp.
She got to the couch and put her legs up. Ethan put a couple of throw pillows under her knee and they both saw the bruising coming through. Not a lot of bruising but they were going to keep an eye on it. He gave her the remote to the TV and she immediately turned it on and put it on a sports channel.
"Gotta catch up on some sports." She said and Ethan just shook his head and walked back into the kitchen. He smiled at everyone when he walked into the kitchen. "
Are you serious?!"
He heard Andy yell and everyone looked at him. "Sports Center." He said as he stood next to Angel at the sink and emptied out the ice bag. After emptying the bag he tossed it into the trash can and grabbed a new bag.
"Does she ever NOT watch sports?" Angel asked and Ethan shook his head while getting ice from the freezer.
"I mean she watches TV shows and movies and all that cool stuff. But she's really into sports. I guess since she wasn't able to actually play professionally this is her way of coping with that." He zipped up the bag and grabbed the dish towel and walked out of the kitchen. Brian followed behind him.
As Ethan was gently setting up the ice bag for Andy, Brian came around the couch and kneeled next to Andy.
"Andy, do you know this song?" He asked her showing the lyrics on his phone and she nodded.
"Do you know the acoustic version?" Again, she nodded.
"Okay awesome. Later tonight I'm gonna ask Alex if he can get his guitars. He knows the song too. I plan on proposing to Angel." Andy's eyes widened and so did Ethan's. Brian put his finger to his lips telling them to keep it down.
"Dude that's awesome! When do you plan to do it?" She asked.
"Thank you. I don't want to be cliche and do it during the countdown. So I think around eleven thirty you and Alex could start the song and when it's towards the last few lines I'll be behind her on my knee and I'll ask her."
Andy smiled and opened up her arms, "Bring it in." She said and he smiled and gave her a hug.
They pulled away and Ethan went in for a hug as well, "Congratulations!" he whispered.
"Thank you. I feel like it's the perfect time." He said as he and Ethan pulled away.
"Love is gonna be in the air tomorrow. Because Andy's gonna ask Lynn to be her girlfriend." Ethan said and it was Brian's turn to be surprised.
"Are you serious?!"
Andy smiled and nodded, "Yeah I've been planning on it since we got here." This time it was Brian's turn to give her a hug and then Ethan.
"Okay, I gotta get back in there, but I'm so excited!" He said and rushed back into the kitchen. The two watched as Brian went up to Angel and gave her a kiss on the cheek and started to help with the kitchen.
"Ethan how did we get so lucky?" She asked still looking at the group in the kitchen smiling, laughing, and talking. Ethan crossed his arms and shook his head with a smile.
"I have no idea."
