Daniel stood motionless, letting the lukewarm soothing water run over his body.
Shower felt damn nice, he didn’t want to move. He didn’t want to think.
The water was hitting a softly achingly pulsing spot on his shoulder where Darren bit him last night. Daniel smiled. The bastard really did it, didn’t he? Daniel shook his head and run his hands through his wet hair, taking them away from his face. He raised his face to the stream of water. He closed his eyes. Did he like it? He didn’t remember. It felt like he wasn’t even there. He couldn’t really recall anything that happened. Did it even happen to him?
Daniel shivered involuntary and turned the water warmer. He threw his head back to shake the water out of his hair and gasped as now warmer stream hit his nipple. Still sensitive skin reacted to the touch, suddenly feeling sore. Daniel felt a strange itch and turned the water hotter. He moaned as he remembered Darren’s teeth on his nipple. Touching it gently, then holding it in a deadly grip, twisting it between his lips, biting it with no mercy… The itch seemed to turn into something else as the water got even hotter. Daniel felt shivers of delight running through his whole body as the water burned his skin taking the itch away, or maybe making it stronger? Whatever it was, it felt excitingly good. Daniel turned the water as hot as it would get and let it caress his skin.
He remembered Darren laying on top of him and smiling that angelic smile of his… Such an evil spark in his eyes as Daniel screamed his name asking for more. He remembered it all now.
Tonight, Daniel thought… And that thought grounded him from his fantasy world back to earth with a loud thud. They are going to Darren’s parents, aren’t they? Which means he already had to be out of the shower and ready instead of having those… thoughts… Damn, poor Darren will have to shower in cold water… Daniel chuckled as he turned off the water and stepped out of thowehower. He looked at himself in the mirror. Skin on his chest disturbingly ree che chuckled again. “What a couple,” he whispered.
Darren was sitting on the edge of the bed and already pouting.
“What?” Daniel asked sitting down next to him.
“What takes you so long?” He eyed Daniel suspiciously.
Daniel laughed. “It’s not what you think, silly!” He pulled Darren for a kiss. Darren leaned into him and wrapped his arms around Daniel’s waist.
“Besides,” Daniel whispered, breaking the kiss, his lips still barely touching Darren’s. Just barely. “I wouldn’t even think of it after last night’s exhaustion.”
Darren smiled a wide smile. Daniel’s lips formed the same smile against Darren’s lips. They pressed them together again for a quick kiss and let go of each other.
“Must we go there?” Darren asked sheepishly, getting up.
“Yes, Darren, we must!” Daniel rolled his eyes and let his body fall onto the bed again. “Go and get ready!”
He heard Darren sigh and close the bathroom door behind him.
Daniel parked the car right across the street from Hayes house. He looked over at Darren and sighed loudly.
“Darren, you’re alright?”
“Yes, I’m fine,” Darren looked back at him and smiled.
“I mean… you asked if we must go and I said we do, but it’s all up to you…” Daniel said running a back of his hand along Darren’s jaw line. “Whatever makes my angel happy…”
Darren’s smile widened.
“I know it needs to be done. Can’t hide forever. This is as good a day as any!” Darren said as he opened the door and got out of the car. Daniel followed him across the street and caught up with him as Darren rang the doorbell.
Julia Hayes, Darren’s mother, opened the door immediately, like she was standing there and waiting… Maybe she was, Daniel thought as he looked at her questioningly. Her face was pretty, she was one of those ladies who just stay pretty all their life. Her blond hair was too light to be natural but she looked kinda classy.
“Daniel?” she addressed him, and Daniel realized he has stayed on the doorstep looking at her when Darren was already inside the house. “You look at me like you’ve never seen me before. Come in, please!”
Daniel thought he really hadn’t seen her before. He’s never really looked at her before. And the thought crossed his mind that she probably has never looked at him before, either. Not the way she was looking at him now. Daniel tensed, remembering all the love bites his neck carried at the moment. Well … Aren’t we all only human, he thought to himself as he walked in and closed the door behind him, witnessing a rather uneasy scene of Darren and his mother looking at each other.
With a silent sigh, Julia opened her arms and hugged Darren. He hesitated for a short bit, probably out of surprise, and then hugged her back.
They looked at each other again when they parted and smiled shy relieved smiles. “I missed you, son,” Julia said, then turned to Daniel and gestured towards the living room. “Well, please… come on in…”
The three of them walked into the living room and found Darren’s father sitting in his chair, a magazine in his hand. He couldn’t possibly be reading that just now, could he, Daniel thought of a little spectacle that was created for them. Right there, Richard Hayes is reading a magazine on fishing as his son brings home his male lover. Daniel couldn’t hide his smile as Darren’s father raised his head, put down a magazine and stood up to greet them.
Richard gave Darren a quick hug and shook Daniel’s hand, as he had done many times before.
Darren and Daniel sat down next to each other on a sofa and Julia uncomfortably sat by her husband’s side in another chair. She was the first to speak, “I will get you all something to drink… It’s just that I wanted to say first… I’m glad you made it here at long last!”
She smiled. Darren smiled back. Daniel just sat there looking around, like he hadn’t seen the place before. Richard was looking at Daniel. Darren must have caught his gaze as he looked at his father questioningly.
“I’ll be right back, everyone’s in the mood for coffee?” Julia asked as she got up and left the room without waiting for anyone to answer.
Three men left in the room just looked at each other for a while. Daniel felt Richard’s eyes on him but didn’t look back at him. Richard knew Daniel feels his stare. Darren was challenging his father to look at him instead. After a long while, Richard turned to Darren and asked, “So, how are you, son?”
“I’m good,” Darren felt uneasy. He knew the subject is gonna come up. One way or another. His father… Well didn’t he want to ask anything? Now when Darren was there and opened himself to the questions about his life, he expected his father to take some interest in what and how happened. Darren wasn’t looking forward to those questions, but he wanted to get them over with as soon as possible.
Daniel felt Darren’s tension and knew exactly how he felt.
“I saw you guys on TV, mother and I … we watched that interview yesterday…” Richard smiled a friendly smile, “and then the other day we saw that song again, you guys are doing well!” He obviously wanted to ease tee tension. Darren just nodded. Daniel felt the urge to reach his hand and take Darren’s hand in his, but resisted this urge and just put his hands together and let them fall in his lap. Richard shot him another look.
“Is there anything…” Darren started speaking, his voice slightly trembling, “anything you want to … ask? You don’t have to feel uncomfortable…”
Richard’s smile was genuine.
“Son, I see everything I need to know. Besides I don’t want to make YOU more uncomfortable than you already are, if that’s even possible!”
Darren blushed. Daniel couldn’t hide his smile again. Richard was so right. Darren was the only one in the room who actually felt most uncomfortable.
“Darren, I see you deeply disturbed by the situation here. I see a person next to you trying to overcome his desire to touch you, since you entered the room. I see you both not being very confident about it. What have I got to ask? You probably don’t have the answers anyway!” Richard looked over their heads to his wife standing in the door, with a full tray in her hands. “Right, Julia? We won’t torture them with questioning!”
She smiled a warm smile and nodded. They were prepared. Darren and Daniel were not. Why didn’t they think about talking it through before and deciding on how to go about it? Daniel cursed himself. He didn’t even suggest Darren they should maybe attempt to be just… well normal. Daniel grinned again thinking back to last night. Wrong phrasing. Images that were racing through his mind…
“I just have one question if you don’t mind,” Richard winked at Darren, “What’s Daniel grinning at all the time?”
