Short chapter yes, but something to tide you over. Enjoy!
Orlando watched Kellie get into Dom’s car. He felt the jealousy burn in him. He knew he shouldn’t feel this way. Kate came to mind. He had just returned from an exhausting trip to Australia. He still didn’t know why he went down there. Kate was dating some model and had thrown him over as soon as Orlando’s plane landed. She had taken him everywhere and made sure they were photographed. For some stupid reason he had confirmed their relationship when someone had asked. Kate had been thrilled and then she had reminded Orlando why he wasn’t with her to begin with. She pouted and pushed to get her own way. She was selfish and it disgusted Orlando. He had just managed to disengage himself from one of her tantrums and was walking on the beach when Elijah had called him. Their argument and the realization that Kellie thought he was back with Kate had been enough for him to end his trip early. He left Kate crying and ranting at her apartment. He had no doubts that the male model was back in the picture. Now Elijah had talked him into staying at his house and finally reading the contents of the envelope. He had carried it around for so long. He never opened it, just looked it over every once in awhile. He felt like he was missing something. Elijah seemed to have read the articles. Johnny and Vanessa obviously had. Who else? Who else knew what he obviously didn’t? He wondered if Kate knew something. The thought that maybe she had deceived him made Orlando sick. Orlando watched Elijah walk to the rental and pull his suitcase out. He took the time to look up and down the street before heading back in. Orlando turned and walked out of the bedroom. He headed to the guest room. He had crashed there many times. He even left clothes in the dresser just in case. It was then that he remembered Kellie had been wearing one of his tee shirts. Did she know it was his? Probably not or else she wouldn’t have worn it. There was a knock at the door. Elijah poked his head in and smiled. “I got your stuff.” He said. He brought the suitcase in and place it on the bed. “Where’s the envelope?” Elijah asked. Orlando turned and looked at the bed. “It’s in the bottom.” He said. Elijah unzipped the case and began pulling Orlando’s clothes out. He put everything on the dresser until he came to the bottom. He pulled the envelope out. Orlando sat down and watched Elijah open it and slide the stack of papers out. “Positive, neutral and negative.” Elijah read as he separated the stacks. “I’m guessing the negative you’ve read.” He said. “Here’s the other two.” Elijah sat the negative pile on the night stand. Orlando separated the other two piles in front of him on the bed. He sat down and stared at them. He hated reading. His dyslexia made it all the more cumbersome. On the other hand he didn’t like feeling like he was in the dark. To many people knew something he didn’t. Elijah had been watching him. “Well happy reading!” He said. “I’ll be downstairs.” He left Orlando to his reading.
310 was packed, as usual. The line stretched around the building. Lucky for Kellie she was with people that were on “The List”. Dom and her led the way to the door where a very large bouncer guarded the door. He smiled at Dom and held the door for them. They immediately went to the VIP section and ordered drinks. The VIP area was separated from the dance floor by a wall of soundproof glass. It had couches and chairs arranged around tables. Kellie plopped onto an overstuffed couch and Dom landed next to her. She watched the crowded dance floor while he talked with some of his friends. Kellie couldn’t believe Orlando had showed up at Elijah’s. Still she had kept her cool and acted indifferent towards him. It was bad enough he’d broken up with her the way he did, but to go straight back to Kate? Ouch!
Kellie had worked hard to get over Orlando, or at least make everyone think she had. She avoided everything Orlando. She put all her LOTR movies out of site as well as any memorabilia. She avoided newspapers and magazines that even hinted at a story on him. She wouldn’t even know he was with Kate if Elijah hadn’t been watching the entertainment show. But still her life was a mess. She worked constantly. Jenna had figured out that the only time Kellie ate anything resembling real food was when she was around. She made it a point to take her to lunch everyday. Otherwise Kellie might grab a candy bar or a can of Pepsi. She had lost to much weight for her 5'6" frame. When she wasn’t working she partied and did it hard. This was why she was with Dom. They had bumped into each other the weekend following meeting up with Elijah. Since then they were together at 310 every weekend. They danced and drank until the club closed and then they left together. Kellie liked the fact that people stared and whispered. They all thought that her and Dom were a couple, which wasn’t true. They flirted, kissed and touched, but it had never gone any further. Dom had tried, but Kellie made it very clear she wasn’t interested in anything else. She liked Dom, even cared, but she’d never love him or anyone else again.
“Let’s dance!” Kellie shouted. The music volume was louder than usual. Dom shook his head. Kellie crossed her arms and scanned the crowd. She finally decided to just go it alone. Kellie pushed her way into the center of the dance floor and began dancing to the techno music. She immediate had a couple of dance partners. Kellie didn’t mind dancing with guys she didn’t know until they tried to touch her. She made it clear that wasn’t allowed and they either dealt with it or found someone else to dance with. Dom would check on her from time to time. He never came out onto the dance floor, but as long as he could see her he left her alone. He knew how reckless she could be, especially if she was drinking. As long as he was the one buying her drinks it was ok, but as soon as someone tried to hand her a drink he usually intervene. Kellie seemed content to sway and move to the heavy beat, so Dom continued his conversation.
Orlando sighed and pushed the papers aside. He’d been reading for over an hour. He’d compared several articles to negative ones he read and was angry with Kate and himself. It was very clear that Kate had deceived him. He couldn’t lay all the blame on her, he had been an idiot. He had refused to listen to Kellie and had caused them both un-needed heartache. He got up and headed downstairs. He didn’t need to read anymore. Elijah and Jenna were sitting on opposite couches watching TV. Orlando sat in a chair between them. Elijah turned the TV off and they both looked at him.
“I’m a bloody fool.” Orlando said.
“No disagreements here.” Jenna replied. “What do you want to know?”
“Everything.” Orlando said.
From there on Jenna filled him in on everything that had been going on since Kellie returned to L.A. Orlando cringed at the picturers it conjured. “What should I do?” He asked.
“Go find her, make her listen to you.” Jenna said.
“She asked me not to contact her.”
“So what? She’ll listen, I know she will.”
Orlando ran a hand through his hair. He was starring at nothing when his cell phone rang.
“Hello.” He said. “Yeah mate what’s up?”
Elijah and Jenna went to the kitchen while Orlando talked.
“Do you really think she’ll listen to him?” Elijah asked.
“Yes, I see what she’s going through and doing to herself.” Jenna said. “She’s hutting herself down, Orlando is the only one that can help her.”
Just then Orlando came into the kitchen. “Well our chat is going to have to wait.” He said. “That was Robyn. I need to be on a flight to Japan in about 2 hours.”
“That was fast.” Elijah said.
“I knew it was coming, they said they were going to try to get a showing there first.” Orlando replied.
“Wait! What are you talking about?” Jenna cut in.
“My new movie Elizabethtown, they scheduled a showing in Japan .” Orlando said,
“Do you have to go?” She asked.
“Yes, I can’t let my fans down.” He said.
“Fine, then as soon as you can get back here.” Jenna said.
Elijah and Orlando looked at each other.
“What?” Jenna asked.
“Well, that won’t be for awhile.” Elijah said.
“Why not?” Jenna asked
“After Japan I have to go to Venice for the film festival there and then onto Toronto.” Orlando said. “Somewhere in between all that I’ll be filming Pirates and there’s also talk of a showing in Kentucky. “
“Whoa! So you’re talking like months.” Jenna said. “This can’t wait Orlando!”
“Don’t you think I know that? Maybe if you and Elijah tell her I read the articles and that I want to talk about them it’ll give her time to think about it and prepare herself.” Orlando said.
Jenna looked at Elijah. “I guess it’s all we can do.” She said.
“Look if she’s open to it, I’ll call her. Ask her and Lijah can let me know.” Orlando suggested. “I have to get to the airport.”
Orlando left the kitchen to go throw everything back in his suitcase and was out the door a little while later.
“I’m going home, I won’t be able to talk to her tonight anyways.” Jenna said.
“Ok let me know how it goes.” Elijah said as he walked Jenna to the door.
“Yeah, I’ll give you a call.” Jenna smiled and left.
She wasn’t sure how Kellie would react the the news.
