Lucy stood at the forefront of the great army and didn’t know where the enemy would be coming from. On Frank and Jeremy’s insistence, she had separated the army into five battalions, one to surround each side of the city and a final one to be at her back, the smaller one. They wanted Anthony to think that they couldn’t find a great many people to fight this battle.
She heard the ground rumble and glanced up a mere mile ahead of her and spotted the rift as Anthony Iero’s head came out. His army began to come out around them and she whispered a curse under her breath. Had her father not decided to show up, they would have been crushed by the mass of nearly a million and a half dragons and demons that followed Anthony.
She commanded, with a single word, the entire army behind her to move forward and let them see her weak force. As soon as they were in eyesight, she heard Anthony laugh and call to her. “You’re leading this army? The daughter of Satan leading the army that was meant for the Queen of the mermaids? Pathetic.”
“Queen Naida is indisposed at the moment, so I was sent in her stead. If you think that you can win against my army, you can try.” She was confident, with his small numbers, that she would win this day. She was just hoping all was going well back at Bryar Enterprises with Naida.

“What? This wasn’t part of the Naida duty described to me.” Brendon stood with his back against the door, not allowing Naida or Josh near it. “I was told to keep her safe by all accounts. I will not let her do what you’re telling me she needs to do, Josh.”
“Brendon, if I don’t do this, as soon as Lucifer helps Lucy defeat Anthony, he’ll go back to Hell, raise the rest of his army, and bring them to use against us. I need to do this.” Naida had her hands on her hips and was staring Brendon down.
“I think,” Nia spoke up from the far corner where she was sitting with Emelie and the kids, “that you should let her go, Brendon.”
“What?”
“She has a point. If we don’t let her go today, we die tomorrow.”
“No.” Brendon didn’t move and Naida, hormonal but always easy to anger anyway, was pissed.
“If you don’t get out of my way, Brendon, I’ll show you something about myself that you missed while you were away and you all were kept in the dark about. Trust me when I say, you don’t want to see it.”
“I won’t move.”
“So be it, Brendon, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. Josh, get out of the way.” Josh moved without being told again and Naida closed her eyes, finding the dragon inside her.
She opened her eyes and heard Brendon gasp at the slit pupils. She raised a hand and moved a finger, sending Brendon flying across the room, landing at Nia’s feet. “He’s not hurt. I just knocked him unconscious. We’ll be back as soon as we can, Nia.”
“Keep her safe, Josh, or so help me I’ll kill you in painful ways.” Emelie allowed her darkness show through with the comment and Josh nodded, fear in his eyes.
Naida shook her head and pulled him through the door, heading straight to the portal they had opened in the basement to get back into Hell. For this to work, all of Satan’s army had to be up above, and most were. The others thought that Naida had permission to be in Hell, so she made it through smoothly.
They walked into the castle and into the throne room. She looked up at the throne and sighed. This would take awhile. Hopefully, Lucy was stalling well.

“You think that weak little army will defeat me, Lucifera?”
“Don’t call me that.” Lucy’s voice was pinched tight as she spoke. She had to keep stalling, at least to give Naida another twenty minutes. She had told the demons that they needed to stall to make sure everyone was in place and that all his people could get out of the depths, but her plan was deeper than that.
“But it is your name, is it not?”
“It is, but I left that name behind when I came up here. I was only Lucifera in my father’s court. I am no longer there, am I?”
“No, you are not, I am in your place instead. Though your father’s power will not last long once I take Earth.”
Too soon, too soon. Lucy knew that it was about to go south with that little threat. She heard her father moving through the crowd and knew that she only had an instant to decide what to do, so she let her mouth do what it did best: brutal honesty.
She laughed and shook her head. “You think you’re tough shit, don’t you? I hate to tell you this, but if you were that big of a guy, you would had your children behind you, but where are they?” She pretended to look behind him then hit herself in the forehead. “Oh, I forgot. They’re fighting on my side. Frank! Hayley!”
Frank and Hayley walked from the crowd and stood on either side of Lucy. They had been there in case something went really bad and Lucy needed another stall tactic. Her father was still moving through the group, so she had to do something. “Not so tough now, are you, Anthony?”
“Frank? What are you doing with this ice scum? And Hayley? I have not seen you since you were five, where have you been?”
“With a father who loved me.” Hayley spoke and it was strong and clear.
“And Lucy is not scum. She is the most caring person I know. Though she’s also a vindictive bitch who would also rip your throat out, I’m on her side so I’m safe in that aspect.” Frank smiled at Lucy and she shook her head. The three dragons, as well as Alex, had grown close over the last six months and Lucy couldn’t imagine life without them.
“See, Anthony? Your own children find comfort in me.”
“They are no longer my children. And, when I destroy Hell, you will wish you had been more like your father because he will be no more.”
Pete broke through the crowd at the last remark. “You will not destroy my kingdom, Anthony.”
Lucy knew in that moment that it was too late. She hoped that Naida had had time to plant their little plan, because otherwise, she was about to get some rather interesting company.

“Done. Let’s get out of here, Josh.” Naida turned and allowed Josh to help her down the stairs, running as fast as she could manage back to the portal. She crawled through with little difficulty and closed it behind them, using spell after spell to close it and protect the building.
She turned and found Josh smiling wide at her. “What?”
“Nothing, Naida. You just did what you said would take forty minutes last night, in less than five. It was amazing to see you work that fast.”
“What? I thought I took longer than that. Maybe it’s just that I’m getting faster the more my powers mature. Whatever. Let’s get back upstairs and make sure Brendon’s okay. I hit him hard.”
Naida walked up the small stairs and climbed into the elevator, sighing as it opened on the floor where Emelie, Nia, and Brendon were waiting for her. She walked into the room and Brendon groaned, waking up as she leaned over him. “How are we doing now, Brendon?”
“How long have I been out?”
“About ten minutes.”
“Did you do it? Tell me you changed your mind and you didn’t do it.” Brendon looked desperate, like he was afraid she had done something stupid while he slept.
“It’s done. I’m sorry, Brendon, but I will have this baby in a world of safety, not in a world ruled by the Devil.” She turned to Emelie and held out her hand. “Give me the walkie.”
Emelie pulled the thing out of her bag and handed it to Naida who turned it on and pushed the button. “Now, Lucy, for the love of all that is holy, NOW!”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Naida’s voice came from Lucy’s walkie talkie and she smiled, knowing exactly what came next. “Poor, poor Anthony. You think you’ve won this because all I have behind me is some four thousand, and you have near a million. Let me show you how wrong you are.” She held her arms up and shot an ice rainbow out of her hands, the sign to move forward for the other four armies.
There was the sound of movement and the other armies moved into view. Fear shot across Anthony’s face as he realized he had already lost. Pete leaned into Lucy with that look and whispered low enough for only her to hear. “We can push them back into Hell with my army and use those with magical talents in yours to seal up the Vortex after us. We can deal with them better on our own turf.”
Lucy nodded. “Do it.” She knew that he would get them into Hell and give them the choice of dying with Anthony or serving in his army, so it was all the better for Lucy and her gang.
The demons in the army began to surge forward and all those from Earth began to make a circle, pooling their magical abilities together to keep the demons from fleeing past them. They made their own little done barrier to keep the bad in and the good out, knowing that it was the only way to save them all.
Lucy watched as Pete’s demons pushed Anthony’s people back into Hell, killing a few of them to make a point. They pushed them through the Vortex and Lucy’s people moved the circle in tighter, pushing their powers into the Vortex as the last of Pete’s people disappeared into the hole.
As the Vortex closed, Lucy turned to her people and raised a hand to silence their cheers. “This war is not over with yet, my friends. Pete will come back with a bigger army then he brought to help us and will use it to destroy us now that he knows our numbers. We must wait here until the other part of our plan is in effect.”
Jeremy stepped forward with a frown. “What other plan? That was all we had.”
Bill shook his head, identical frown on his face. “Don’t tell me you did something stupid, Lucy.”
“It wasn’t my idea, but I helped with it. Josh, Emelie, and I all did. Naida is the only one who can destroy Hell. She planted a time bomb down there that would activate as soon as my father sat on his throne again. All of Hell will be blown out, all the power destroyed. We will win in the end.” Lucy flinched slightly at the horror-filled look on Jeremy’s face. “I couldn’t tell her no.”
Jeremy, Alex, Spencer, Bill, Chloe, Hayley, Frank, and Ray all began to move through the crowds as fast as they could. They knew that if something went wrong, Naida would be the first target and they didn’t want that. Lucy followed after them, telling the rest of the army to break up and return to their homes.
She piled into the back of a truck with Jeremy at the wheel, Alex, Bill, and Frank in the car as well. They sped the entire way back to Bryar Enterprises, but would they be there in time to stop Pete / Lucifer if something didn’t go right with the plan?
