"You are an enigma walking
Make no excuses
For the way that you carry on."

Carrie cursed under her breath as she reached out for her phone quickly, hoping its ringing wouldn't wake the sleeping girl in her arms. She silenced it, looking at the clock that read 10:30 am.
"Who's that?" Kelly asked, her voice rough as she moved slightly to become more comfortable, not even bothering to open her eyes.
"Nosy much?" Carrie smiled.
"Well, whoever it is woke me up, so I think I have to a right to know. That way I can hunt 'em down and run 'em over."
"I tried to get it before it woke you," Carrie apologized.
"It's ok," Kelly replied, nuzzling into her neck, knowing something wasn't right with this picture, but way too comfortable to worry about it.
Carrie laughed softly at the touch, "Besides, it's nearly eleven. When were you planning on getting up?"
"When food became a necessity."
"Sounds good to me," Carrie said, looking at her phone. "It was a text...from Michael."
"What's it say?" Kelly mumbled, finding her eyelids growing heavy already.
"Had a great time last night," Carrie read. "Hope to do it again soon."
"Chemistry," she yawned, making the country singer laugh again.
"That's what I thought. What am I supposed to tell him?"
"You spent the night with someone else," Kelly smiled. "That's usually a deal breaker."
"I spent the night with you."
"He doesn't know."
"I'm not gonna say that," Carrie shook her head. "I don't wanna hurt him."
"Invite me to the wedding," Kelly sighed, her eyes closing once more.
"You going back to sleep on me?" Carrie asked with a laugh.
"Yes ma'am," she replied, her accent coming on strong.

"Care?" Kelly asked, as the Oklahoma native put a plate of food before her.
"Yea?" she asked, sitting next to her.
"You know that I didn't mean what I said earlier, right? About what you should tell Michael? I mean, I don't want you thinking I'm some jackass."
"Of course not," Carrie smiled, elbowing her playfully.
"But I do think you should talk to him," she said. "You don't want to get too far into this if your heart's not really there. You'll only ending hurting the both of you even more."
"I know," Carrie nodded. "But what am I supposed to do? Tell him I don't think he's attractive?"
"Way to bruise a guy's ego," Kelly laughed. "Besides, that's not it, is it? I mean, it's not like you can't bare to look at him or anything."
"No," she shook her head.
"Ok, then just tell him the truth. Tell him there's just no spark."
"You know, you're a lot better at this girl talk thing than you give yourself credit for."
"Yea, well, you learn to give good advice when you've experienced just about every crappy situation there is."
"And with a charming personality like that, I find it hard to believe you're still single," Carrie smiled cheekily.
"Yea, well at least I have an excuse," Kelly smirked. "I mean, look at you. You're absolutely gorgeous, and you're a complete sweetheart. You must be pretty bad in bed for you not to be able to hang onto guy."
Carrie's jaw dropped as Kelly laughed, her eyes sparking playfully.
"You're wrong for that," Carrie laughed, not being able to get mad at the adorable grin that Kelly was wearing.
"You started it," Kelly pointed out, taking a bite out of the peanut butter sandwich the other singer had made for her. "Mmm, Carrie, you are a goddess."
"I know," Carrie shrugged, standing. "You want something to drink?"
"Foclat dealk," Kelly replied, her mouth full.
"What?"
She swallowed hard, "Chocolate milk."
"What are you? Four?" Carrie teased.
"Hey, four was a good year," Kelly defended.
Carrie shook her head, laughing, "You're something else, you know that?"
"Never understood that phrase," Kelly commented. "Something else compared to what? Compared to myself? Cause how I can I be something other than what I am? Or something else compared to other people? Cause I mean, duh, I'm not them, so of course I'm gonna be something else. That's like saying water's wet."
"And you've just proven my part," Carrie grinned, placing a glass full of chocolate milk in front of the Texan.
Kelly could feel the country singer's eyes on her as she gulped down the drink, washing down the peanut butter that was still stuck to the roof her palate.
"Did you drug this or something?" Kelly asked, growing nervous under the gaze.
"What? No, sorry," Carrie blushed. "Just zoned out for a second. Um, so what time you're leaving to go back home?"
"Later this afternoon," she replied, looking at her watch. "I should probably get going."
"Alright," Carrie nodded as Kelly stood, throwing her plate in the trash and bringing her glass to the sink. "How long are you gone for?"
"Um, about a week and a half, I think," Kelly said as they walked to the door together. "Then I've got some more studio time scheduled, so I'll be back then. Tell Alex and them I'll visit them as soon as I get back?"
"Of course," Carrie nodded as they looked at each other for a moment before Kelly pulled her into a hug.
"Take care of yourself," she whispered.
"It's only a week and a half," Carrie laughed in her ear.
"Yea, but I don't need to be worrying about you getting sick when I'm not around."
Carrie smiled, turning slightly to give her a friendly kiss on the cheek, "I'll be fine."
"Call me if you need," Kelly smiled back, opening the door.
"Same goes for you."
