Lessons(Pt1)
Joe paced the living room, the house being smaller than the one on the beach, his long strides quickly took him to the other side. He stared out the window a moment before spinning around and going back the way he had come. With the three of them there it was just to confining. He and Sav shared a room, but that wasn’t anything new, having done it when they first started out in the band. Every morning when they would go to bed to sleep the day away, Sav would wrap his body around Joe. He pushed away the next thoughts that jumped into his head, not wanting to repeat the last time he was thinking such things. Joe grumbled under his breath and finely flopped down in the chair. He looked over at Nick, who was sitting across from him in that arrogant way he does, legs crossed, straight back and head bowed slightly reading a book.
“How many more times are you going to read that book?” Joe asked him.
“Ummm, first time I’ve read this one. I just acquired it yesterday, it’s been a wonderful read. It’s one of the few remaining manuscripts that recount Joan of Arch’s fight for the church. Perhaps you should read it and brush up on your history.”
“I don’t want to read it and I hate it when you get that uppity tone in your voice. You would figure after being with us all these years, the diversity in your language wouldn’t be so….so 13th century.”
Nick chuckled at him. “Your choice of words are amusing. The world is a far different place than when I was young lad and as an adult.”
“Barbaric I’m sure.” Joe grumbled.
Nick carefully closed the book and looked up at Joe.
“Don’t look at me that way.” Joe grumbled.
“In what way is that?” Nick smirked.
“Like I’m stupid. I read my history books, I know what happened then.”
“Much of what you read in those only hinted at that time. Perhaps you would like a history lesson?”
“No, I don’t want a history lesson.” Joe said sarcastically with a roll of his eyes.
“Maybe a game of chess to get your mind off of whatever is troubling you.”
“I don’t want to do that either.”
“Ok, then may I suggest a piano lesson? I could teach you one of Beethoven’s best works.”
“Just shut up Nick!” Joe finely yelled as he glared at him.
“Your rather testy this evening I see.”
“I'm going to test my fist out on your face, if you don't shut up.”
“What’s bothering you Joe?” Sav asked from his seat at the table.
“Look…!” Joe exclaimed, throwing up his hand towards Sav. “It’s not only dead, but it talks too. Imagine that, he actually takes his nose out of whatever he’s scribbling over there to say something.”
Sav glanced at Nick, an understanding passing between them.
“Is this how the next millennium is going to be? Boring.” Joe said.
“It’s what you make of it.” Nick replied.
“I’ve heard that before. Right now I’m making nothing of it.”
Sav closed his journal, stood up and left the room. A few minutes later he came back and went over to Joe. Taking his hand, Sav dragged him from the room.
“I’m not in the mood for that Sav.” Joe told him. But instead of going to the bedroom where he though Sav was taking him, he went to the front door.
Minutes later Sav was behind the wheel speeding down the road.
“Where are we going?”
“You’ll see.”
“No, I don’t see because you won’t tell me.”
“Relax Joe.” Sav told him smiling.
“What are you smiling about? I find nothing to smile about.” Joe looked at him. “Is that all you think about?”
“It hard not to when you’re like this. You’re very sexually aggressive.”
“Oh yea one of the things you like too.”
“Very much.” Sav replied with a side ways glance at him.
A deep groan rumbled from Joe’s chest sending shivers through Sav. “But not tonight, I have something else in mind.”
“Well that will be a first.”
They rode in silence the rest of the way until Sav pulled up in front of the other house.
“Damn not much of it left.” Joe commented, looking at the pile of rubble. Half the front wall was the only thing still standing, everything else that was in the house was scattered around. A few pieces of furniture were still intact, but the pounding of the waves destroyed the rest.
“Teach me to buy a house right on the beach.“ Sav mumbled. “Come on.” Joe followed him around the rubble to the beach.
“You’re not going to try and salvage anything?”
”Naa, nothing there I want. Everything can be replaced. The only thing I was worried about was getting you out, that’s all that matter.”
“So why did we come here then?” Joe asked.
Sav pulled him into his arms.
“I though you didn’t want to do that?” Joe managed to get out before Sav kissed him.
“I don’t…..well maybe later we can. But for now, you get your first lesson in flying.”
“Flying!” Joe replied loudly as he took a step backwards.
“Yes, it’s great. My second favorite thing.”
”Oh yeah and what is the first?”
“Sex.”
“I should have known.” Joe said rolling his eyes.
“Now I want you to concentrate on anything….other than that or we’ll never get off the ground. And we’ll find our self’s in the sand.”
“You started it before we even left the house. You’re the one that is always thinking about sex.”
“Can’t help it, you’re very addictive in that area.”
“Must not have been to addictive, you left me remember.”
“I didn’t forget about that. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, and I promise never to do it again.”
”Better not.” Joe grumbled.
Sav kissed him again, “Anyway, leave the past in the past, we’re together now. Ok.”
“Fine by me.” Joe replied.
“Ok back to the lesson. Let’s see…close your eyes…...think about…..about being on stage. The adrenaline rush you get, the energy from the fans. The way that it makes you feel, when you hear them singing back the same words you wrote. Looking out, you see them pumping the air with their fist in time to the beat of the music.”
“That’s a great feeling.” Joe cocked a half grin. He felt the ocean breeze change directions on his face and a sensation of floating.
“Open your eyes Joe, and look around you.” Sav whispered.
Joe did as he asked. He saw the house on the beach below them, the gentle waves washing upon to the beach. Directly below them the dark rippling water.
“Oh shit!” Joe almost screamed and clang tightly to Sav. “Don’t you drop me.”
”I’m not going to drop you.” he chuckled deep in his throat. “Let go and move away from me, keep thinking of being on stage. Listen to my voice.”
Joe was intimated about moving away from him, but did it anyway. “Just don’t use that seductive tone you love to use when you want to have….”
“I like using that tone with you. The expression on your face when you know that I want to take you to bed.”
“Your doing it Sav, don’t saaaaaa…..” Joe lost his concentration from what Sav was saying and fell toward the water. His arms swung in all direction until he hit the water. He came up spitting and sputtering. “I’m going to kill you!”
”No you wont.”
Joe glanced up and saw him hovering a few feet away. Swimming toward the beach, he crawled up to stop at Sav’s feet. He turned over and laid on his back glaring up at him.
“I told you to concentrate about being on stage.”
”And I told you not to use that voice!” Joe yelled. “I’m not fucking Peter Pan!”
Sav cracked a giggle, "I certainly hope not."
Joe glared up at him with puzzlement dancing across his face. " certainly hope not for what?"
Sav laughed at him some more, "That you aren't fucking Peter Pan."
"Oh, haha, very funny."
The laughter further up the beach drew their attention. Nick was perched on the front wall of the house holding his stomach.
“Ha ha Nick, bet you didn’t do any better. Shut the fuck up Sav.” Joe grumbled. He had a sudden brainstorm and swiped his legs out, knocking Sav flat on his back. Joe straddled his waist and glared down at him. “Now look who fell.” he smirked.
“Ooo foreplay.” Sav smiled and quickly turned the tables, now Joe was underneath him.
“Foreplay my ass. This is called getting you back for letting me fall.” They tumbled around in the sand until Nick called out to them.
“I thought this was a lesson on flying, not rolling in the sand?”
Sav jumped to his feet and hauled Joe up. “It is, we’ll have to continue this one later. Ready to try again?”
“Yes, but keep your mouth shut this time.”
“Aaa, but I wanted to rescue you from the water.” Sav pouted.
“I’ll pull you in next time.”
“Oh, more foreplay.”
“Shut up.” Joe growled. “Can we do this now?”
Sav wrapped his arms around Joe again and lifted off the ground and became serious once more, “The stage.”
Joe clamped his hand over Sav’s mouth to keep him from talking.
They spent the next few hours going over the same routine. Joe fell a few more times, but finally was able to stay in the air without Sav’s help. He moved around a bit grinning broadly at his accomplishment. Landing on the beach next to Sav he yanked him into his arms, growling that he was hungry from all energy he used trying to fly. Sav let him take his fill and called it a night. He led Joe to the car and took off for the pub to celebrate the nights events.
