The morning was a rough one, Die would venture to say as much. Kyo had woken up close to an hour ago, taken a quick shower, and then trudged into the living room, seeming rather despondent. The boy had complained of feeling funny before settling on the couch and folding his arms over the small swell of his stomach. Thinking that maybe Kyo just needed a little something for breakfast to settle his stomach, Die made the boy a couple of slices of toast and a glass of orange juice.
Accepting the toast and juice, Kyo started eating it. His stomach didn’t feel much better, however, as he sat the half eaten slice of toast down on the table. Setting the juice next to it, the smaller redhead moved to curl up on the sofa. “It’s not helping…” Kyo groaned, holding his slightly extended stomach. Suddenly, he felt faint. Shaking his head, he rubbed his eyes and looked at the television that was on.
“Come here,” Die said, frowning. He came to the other and pressed his hand to the boy’s face and forehead, checking for any unnatural heat. “Are you sick?” the taller male asked, looking for any visible indications that Kyo might have been.
“I don’t know… I’m dizzy and… I feel faint.” He looked up at Die weakly, not knowing what was wrong with himself. Kyo felt his eyes close before slowly opening them once more, another dizzy spell hitting him. Suddenly, everything went black, his body going limp as he passed out.
Die startled, unsure of what exactly had happened for a moment. “Shit!” he cursed, suddenly jarred. Gathering Kyo up, he arranged the boy decently on the couch and tried to rouse him. The other did little to respond to Die, which worried the other greatly. Rushing off to find his keys and wallet, he returned to the living room and moved Kyo out to the car. Whatever was wrong, Die wasn’t going to wait until Kyo came around to figure out what it was. The boy needed to see a doctor. There was no way that Die was going to let something happen to Kyo or their baby.
Kyo didn’t wake from his dark slumber as he was transported to the hospital. He didn’t even stir when he was removed from the car and carried in. Once placed on the hospital bed, he was checked for pulse, eyes for dilation, and anything else they needed. A doctor sighed and shook his head, looking over to Die. “He just passed out. Was he doing anything strenuous to make him pass out?”
“No, nothing. He got up this morning and complained of feeling dizzy to start with. He’s a few months pregnant,” Die added fidgeting. “What could be wrong with him to make him just pass out like that? Could it be something to do with the baby?”
“Hm. It seems like he has the symptoms of gestational diabetes. It’s common in most pregnancies. Keep him on a strict diet for what he can and can’t have. It’ll only last until he has given birth, it should clear up soon after that.” The doctor said as he watched Die while the nurse worked on waking Kyo up, giving him an insulin shot.
“If he complains about being dizzy or passes out again, check his sugar level and if it’s low, give him something sweet to eat to raise it to a stable level. If it’s high, give him a shot of insulin.” He scribbled something down on a pad and gave the paper to Die. “Here’s the brand of a machine to test his blood sugar level and a pharmaceutical slip for some insulin and needles.”
Die nodded and accepted the prescription, a little upset by what had just happened. What would have happened if this had gone unchecked? Would it have harmed Kyo and the baby? When Kyo woke up, they would go and get another ultrasound done. Die was nowhere near thinking that this fiasco was convenient, but at least it had happened when they needed to be at the hospital anyway. The taller male was eager to see their baby again. The boy stirred gradually, and Die watched him with a slight bit of anxiety, worried about how he was feeling.
Groaning, Kyo rubbed his eyes and looked around, finding himself in the hospital. His features adapted a confused look as his attention went to Die. “Wha… what happened?” He asked, tilting his head and looking around the hospital once more. Kyo didn’t know how he got there, but all he did remember was darkness before waking up here.
“You passed out,” Die replied, reaching over to place his hand on top of Kyo’s. “The bad news is that you have gestational diabetes,” he elaborated, “The good news is that is should go away when the pregnancy is over with.” Die smiled in a way that he hoped would seem reassuring.
“That doesn’t sound very good… Will it hurt the baby?” Kyo asked quickly, looking to the doctor. The doctor chuckled and shook his head. “No, it won’t harm the baby, you’ll be fine. Just make sure you keep on the recommended diet.” He said as he handed a pamphlet to Die.
“If you follow that, your baby will be more than healthy. The diet explained in the pamphlet is very healthy and it will keep you and the baby in the best of health.” The man said as he watched Kyo. He was familiar with the patient, having been his family doctor for a while. The man didn’t pry in Kyo’s personal life, but the strange man and the pregnancy was enough for the doctor to know what was going on.
Die listened intently, even though the doctor had explained the same thing to him already. He wanted to make sure that he had everything correct, so that things would be easier to put into motion once they were at home. He and Kyo would have to make sure that everything went smoothly and that their baby would be born healthy.
“Okay… Well, we have an ultrasound to get to…” Kyo hesitated to say before he stood from the bed with some help. “I’ll get you a wheelchair, can’t have you falling down if you’re still dizzy.” The boy nodded and waited for the doctor to bring over a wheelchair. Taking a seat, he was pushed to the ultrasound technician with Die following, giving them a bow before leaving.
They headed back to a room where Kyo’s ultrasound could be performed. The smaller man was helped onto the padded table where he could lie comfortably for the procedure. Die watched, familiar with the routine, as Kyo’s shirt was lifted and his pants were pushed down low enough to clear his abdomen. The taller man had almost forgotten that the boy was still in his pajamas. In the urgency, wardrobe had not been a thought at all. Die continued to wait while Kyo’s slightly distended belly was coated in gel and the monitor was turned on, eager to see how their baby had formed.
Not caring that he was still in his pajamas, Kyo looked over to the monitor. It should have been developed enough to be recognizable. The boy sighed and yawned, looking to the monitor once more looking for the gray images, hoping to spot the baby without having it pointed out, but he was disappointed when he couldn’t find the baby on his own.
Die looked carefully, ready to see their baby. He wasn’t doing a great job of seeing it without aid, though. When the technician instructed them to look, the taller male focused in on the indicated area. A smile took over his face and warmed him, making the worry from earlier that morning fade. Safe within the confines of Kyo’s body was their baby, comfortably curled up. It still hardly made a dent in the space available, but it had definitely grown.
Kyo smiled at the small figure that was their baby. He smiled softly, his hand finding Die’s and holding it, squeezing firmly as he watched the small figure. It was slightly distinguishable, but it was still a small blur of gray. The boy looked over to Die, the same smile on his face only growing when he saw Die’s. A feeling of pride swelled in his chest. Had he been with his parents still, there would be no baby. He figured they were thinking he couldn’t do it and Die would get rid of him fast so he would crawl back to them, but here he was, proving them wrong.
The older male only moved his eyes from the monitor to look down at Kyo’s fingers, entwined with his own. In an odd way, Die felt ultra-connected to Kyo and their child at that moment. Maybe it was the fact that they could see the baby, but it made the taller male feel oddly sentimental. He gave the other’s hand a slight squeeze and smiled at the boy, feeling immensely thankful that he simply had Kyo to start with.
Looking back to the monitor, Kyo smiled before accepting the printout of the picture of the baby. Holding it close, he looked at it carefully as the technician cleaned off his stomach carefully. With it clean and his clothes put back into place, Kyo stood from the table, getting a slight head rush. Leaning back against the table, he put a hand on his head and shook it. “I think I got up too fast…”
Die winced, standing up and placing a steadying hand on Kyo’s arm. He had a feeling that he would end up hovering over Kyo and babying him for the rest of the day. Hopefully, that wouldn’t bother the kid, but Die suspected that it would be difficult for him to do otherwise.
Placing his hand on Die’s, he patted it softly before pushing his hand away and standing up straight. “I’m fine, really. Let’s just go home, okay?” He asked, holding the picture as he started to walk towards the door, only to be stopped in his tracks by dizziness. “Alright… so maybe I’m not as okay as I thought.” Kyo sighed and shook his head, closing his eyes and taking in a deep breath and letting it out in a slow exhale.
“Take it easy,” Die warned. “Do you want me to carry you?” There didn’t seem to be a reason for him not to offer. It wasn’t a problem for the taller man, but somehow, he felt uneasy because they were in a hospital. This was not his turf at all. More than anything, he just wanted to get Kyo home.
“Please?” He asked, looking over his shoulder to Die with a pleading look. Kyo didn’t really want to ask for help, but he needed it. The boy thought maybe a wheelchair would be better, but he liked it when Die carried him and he felt more comfortable with him.
Die nodded, going to Kyo and taking him up as carefully as he could. The taller man made sure not to jostle the other and make his head feel worse as Die transported him out to the car. Gently, he deposited Kyo in the passenger seat, waiting a moment before shutting the other’s door and heading to the driver’s side.
“Thanks, Die.” Kyo smiled over to him and leaned over to give him a kiss once in the passenger side. The boy yawned, leaning against the door of the passenger side and looked out the window. “Um… When I get on that new diet later today, you’ll do it with me, wont you?” He asked, looking over to the taller redhead from the corner of his eye.
Die raised an eyebrow slightly, concentrating on the road as they left the hospital and headed home. “Sure,” he said, not seeing any harm. Most likely, Kyo would want some support and a partner in the whole process of changing and monitoring his eating habits, so Die didn’t mind.
Smiling and giving a hum, Kyo rested his head back against the glass of the window. He held back the urge to sleep, knowing that they’d be home soon, so he could rest then. Kyo sighed, watching the scenery so he wouldn’t manage to drift off, but it was useless as a yawn passed his lips before his eyelids became too heavy and fell.
+Chibi-- I do want those goodies... Kittens, cupcakes, cookies; what kind of story is this? o.O
