When Night Falls(Pt17)
Sav shifted slightly in his sleep, his tongue swiped out to wet his lips. Turning his head the other way, a soft moan caught behind his lips. He was being dragged from sleep, his mind becoming more aware of the tingling sensation. Soft lips on his skin, sharp nips of teeth moving down his neck. A small smile touched his lips, titling his head up as Joe’s tongue danced along his neck.
“Joe…mmm…”
“I’m not Joe.”
Sav’s eyes snapped open, as he pushed the woman off of him to scramble from the bed. His feet tangled in the sheet, sent him to the floor. Flipping around on his rump, he stared at the woman propped up in his bed. Recognition set in as to who she was.
“Ev..Evelyn.” Sav took in her youthful appearance, she looked the same as the day he met her, but now, her eyes were golden and he could see her fangs.
Evelyn scooted from the bed and came toward him. The silk, rose colored knee-length nightgown, shimmered as she moved. “I didn’t mean to scare you Rick.”
Sav crawled backwards as she came closer. “What hap…”
”I’m hungry and you smelled better than what is in the bottle.”
“You will have to drink from the bottle,” Sav quickly told her. “I don’t have any to spare.”
Joe and Nick stumbled through the open door. Nick quickly went to Evelyn and pulled her to the other side of the room, shoving a bottle in her hand, firmly telling her to drink it.
Joe carefully hoisted Sav from the floor, a questioning look on his face.
“I’ll explain it later. Let me get her settled first.”
“Let Nick do it and explain it to me now.” Sav glanced at Evelyn. She had finished the bottle and Nick was guiding her back to the bed.
“You don’t remember anything?” Joe helped him on with his robe.
“Um…we went to Thomas’ funeral, you were mad at me about….”
”I wasn’t mad at you, very upset about Thomas.”
Sav tried to twist his head around to see what was poking him in the back, causing a few twinges of pain. “What the hell did you do to my back Joe? Give me carpet burns?” Sav heard Nick chuckle softly and shot him a heated glare.
“uh..no.” Joe smiled sheepishly.
“Go ahead. I can take care of Evelyn for now.”
“OK. Come on, we’ll go downstairs and I will explain.”
“Remember what we talked about Joe.” Nick called after them.
Once they were downstairs, Joe poured them both a drink, while Sav got comfortable on the couch. Joe sat sideways on the cushion beside him.
“Before I tell you anything, I want you to promise me that you won’t go flipping out and let me finish before you say anything.”
“O-OK.” Sav cautiously held his eyes.
Choosing his words careful Joe told him what happened. Sav’s face paled when he learned about Tracy and the three other innocent people that died. How close Evelyn came to being another one of this madman’s victims. He learned of the team of men that were out looking for Lily and Crystal and the ongoing search for the one that was ultimately responsible for all of it.
“What else?” Sav’s questioning eyes held his, “What else are you not telling me.”
Joe sighed heavily and moved closer to him, dropped his arm on the back the couch to twirl the softness of hair between his fingers, knowing it also had a calming effect on Sav. He also knew that the last part of the night’s events would send him flying across the room.
“The injuries on your back, aren’t from carpet burn. They’re gunshot wounds. The bullets aren’t there anymore. Nick pulled them out when he got home.”
A thoughtful expression crossed his face, trying to remember what happened. “I don’t remember anything that you told me. Evelyn, Tracy, none of it. I was…was, went to…” Sav’s eyes flew back to Joe’s. “I was hit first, that’s why I don’t remember.” Fear twisted his insides. “I..I was hug…Kyle…”
Joe was anticipating his move and held onto him around the shoulders. Sav fought back, he didn’t hear anything Joe was yelling at him. They wound up on the floor, Joe pinning him down.
“Kyle is fine…listen to me Rick.” Joe gripped his chin, forcing Sav to look up at him. Tears pooled in his blue eyes. “Kyle is fine, he’s upstairs sleeping.” Joe loosened the grip he had on his wrists and gently brushed the tears away that fell down the side of his face. “He’s alright Rick. Kyle took one bullet in his shoulder. The doctors removed it at the hospital. Phil brought him home a few hours ago.”
“I was hugging him Joe. Those three that I took, were meant for him, weren’t they?”
“Yes.” Joe whispered. “That’s what Nick thinks. He reached both of you before anybody knew what was going on. He kept Kyle out of the line of fire, shielding him with his body.”
“I almost lost him Joe.” Sav’s voice broke.
Joe sat up and pulled him into his arms. “But you didn’t, you saved his life Rick. Kyle is going to be just fine.”
Sav pushed away. “I have to see him, to make sure.” He struggled to his feet with Joe’s help. Gently pulling his arm free, he made hiss way upstairs.
“Do you need some help?” Joe called after him.
“No…I..I can make it.”
A few minutes later Sav quietly opened to the door to Kyle and Beth’s room. A small lamp illuminated the room, casting soft shadows across Kyle’s face. Sav could clearly see the bandage on his chest, just below his collar bone, a deep bruise spread out from underneath, another one spanned his upper left arm. Sav cocked his head slightly sideways, listening to his strong steady heartbeat. Beth lay beside him, her arm draped across his stomach. Sav reached down and eased the blanket further up on the sleeping couple.
Nick eased up behind him, slipping his arms around Sav’s waist, then resting his chin on his shoulder. Sav linked his fingers through Nicks.
“I couldn’t save him, but Kyle…”
”Don’t torture yourself about Thomas. You did everything you could, you risked your life to save his, and we know that. It’s in the past Rick, put it behind you for now and concentrate on the future.”
Taking a deep breath, Sav exhaled slowly. “Thank you.”
Nick tightened his arms. “That’s the second time I’ve heard that tonight. Joe did the same thing not to long ago.” Turning his head, Nick placed a lingering kiss on the soft skin of his neck, wanting desperately to taste the blood that he still yearned for. Reining in that desire to do so, he stepped back, still holding his hand. “Let them rest. You can talk to him tomorrow.”
Sav glanced at him, then back to Kyle. Watching him a moment longer, he allowed to Nick to pull him from the room and back downstairs.
Joe was lounged back on the couch when they returned. He quickly swiped at his face, giving them a half grin. Sav sat beside him.
“You…” Joe leaned forward to kiss him. “…broke your promise.”
“Sorry. I should have let you finish before I flew off the handle.”
“Don’t worry about it. At least you didn’t destroy the living room.” Joe chuckled and started kissing him again, diving his tongue for a taste before pulling away. “I’m going to stay with Evelyn for the day. I don’t expect you to sleep with us, but you’ll know where I am if you need me.”
“She needs you more right now than I do.” Sav trailed his finger down Joe’s chest and stomach, then back up to lightly brush his nipple through the thin fabric of his t-shirt.
Joe took his hand, pulling it to his lips. “Plenty of time for that later.” Placing a soft kiss on his lips. “I’ll see you in a little while.” Joe stood up and left the room.
Sav glanced at Nick who was sitting in the chair, seemingly deep in thought. “When was the last time you got any sleep?”
“Why is it that you and Joe repeat the same questions to me?”
“Maybe because we both worry about you.”
Nick scoffed and turned his gaze elsewhere.
“You have to get some sleep Nick.” Sav scooted down on the couch and patted the place in front of him.
Nick rolled his eyes, but couldn’t resist the temptation to lay with him. Kicking off his shoes and removing his light dinner jacket, he folded it neatly and draped it across the chair. Stepping over the couch he went to lay down when Sav stopped him.
“You’re going to sleep in your clothes?”
“um...yes. You are...besides, less temping to indulge myself from some one so willing.” Nick said quickly and lay down in front of him.
Sav pulled the light blanket over them and settled behind him, slipping his arm around him. “Willing...maybe, tired, sore...yes. This isn’t so bad.”
“Easy for you to say.” Nick grumbled.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve done this.”
“Too long.” Nick sighed heavily. “You and Joe should really try and curb your thoughts and feelings during passionate romps in bed.”
”Why?”
“I was the brunt of much laughter and…ribbing while picking everyone up at the airport. It’s frustrating and uncomfortable for me.”
“Why would it be frustrating?”
“Because I deny myself the pleasure of joining you. I don’t want a repeat of the first and last time that happened.”
“No we don’t.” Sav replied. “You should try and get some sleep.” Snuggling closer to him. Despite everything that Nick put him though in the past, the danger he still poses where he is concerned. Still living in fear that at any moment Nick could revert back to the old ways of controlling him...he wanted to stay. Sav tried to fathom what his life would be like if Nick wasn’t in it. He couldn’t, no more than he could without Joe.
