Chapter 17: New Years Eve Part 1
Andy pulled up to the camp site. It was nearly dawn and she could see a few more tents were up not too far from their camp. She parked the Jeep and turned it off. She rubbed her face with her hands and let out a sigh. Tonight was the night two big things were going to happen. One for her and one for Brian.
When the five were done cleaning the kitchen they joined Andy and Ethan in the living room. Andy changed the channel to the movie channel and she looked at Ethan when she saw that it was their favorite movie. He looked back at her and without looking at the TV they started to quote the movie.
Angel rolled her eyes as she sat next to Brian on the other couch. Alex laughed as he sat in on of the chairs next to Ethan. David grabbed a throw pillow and put it on the floor and took a seat. Lynn smiled at Andy and took a seat on the floor in front of the couch she was on.
"I can move a bit and you can sit with me," Andy said and she moved her right leg so it was hanging off the couch. Lynn looked up at her and smiled. She got up and settled in the space that Andy provided for her.
"How's your knee?" Lynn asked looking at the ice bag on her knee.
Andy shrugged, "Not too bad. It feels like a dull ache at this point. Kinda like a annoying pain that you can't shake."
"You had us worried there for a minute," Alex said looking at her.
Andy smiled, "I'm tough bug, I've been battered and bruised all my life. I'm kind of a klutz."
"Trust me, she is. Can't tell you how many times she's come home with a bruise or a scratch. Half the time she has no idea where they came from." Ethan said shaking his head.
"What's the plan for tomorrow morning?" Brian asked.
"Babe, were you not paying attention earlier?" Angel said sitting up looking at him and he shook his head.
"You, me, and David are going to grab the coolers and meet the others at the campsite."
"Ohhh yeah! Hey Alex did you bring your guitars?" Brian asked.
Alex shook his head, "I was thinking about it but I wasn't sure."
"Wanna go and grab them now?" Alex looked at him as if he grew another head.
"Come on, I'll take you both." Ethan said with a smile and stood up. This would be the perfect time for Brian to tell Alex about the proposal.
With a confused look Alex stood up and followed Ethan towards the front door. Brian kissed Angel's cheek and told her that he would be right back. When he got up and rushed over to the two leaving a confused Angel. But she shrugged it off. Nothing really surprised her anymore when it came to Brian. Maybe because it was the fact that they've been together for so long.
The ones that were left heard three voices saying bye and the four others echoed them back. They heard the door close and turned their attention back to the TV. They all sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes and then Lynn cell phone started to ring. She excused herself and got up from the couch. She walked into the kitchen and started to talk into her phone.
"Okay, Andy spill." Angel said coming over to her and she sat on the floor in front of the couch.
Andy smiled and shook her head, "What are you talking about?"
She looked at David who just shrugged and turned his attention back to the TV trying to hide his smile. "What do you know David?"
She looked back and forth between the two and then her phone went off. She took it out of her pocket and saw a text from Andy. She read the text and looked at Andy who was smiling back her and then back at David who again just shrugged and smiled.
"Well about time." She said with a smile just as Lynn came over to them.
"About time for what?" she asked as she sat with Andy.
Angel stood up and walked back over to the couch, "She was just telling me about one of those big tours she's never seen and she plans on going to it this summer."
"Which tour?"
"The Vans Warped Tour, never been to one. Plan on going to the one this summer."
Lynn sat up and looked at her, "How have you never been to one?"
Andy shrugged, "Either work, or just always missed it. Rumor has it this is the last cross country tour. So I'm gonna be SURE to see it this time."
"OH! I'll make sure you'll see it this time!" Lynn said shaking her head.
"Who was on the phone?" David asked.
"Oh, it was the magazine. I have to fly out to Ohio for the magazine cover by the first weekend of January. Then, while I'm there do the quick tour announcement. After that we start rehearsals, do a quick show in Pennsylvania. Then, kick off the tour in Atlanta. By the way, babe," she said turning her head to look at Andy.
"Mark wants to know if you and Ethan are able to meet us for our rehearsals. He wants you two to get acquainted with the equipment. Also for you to bring any cameras you have." Andy nodded and shrugged her shoulder.
"Okay, just let us know. We'll be in Georgia by then I think. Just tell us where to go and we'll fly up. I'm sure my Uncle will keep an eye on the house."
The door opened and all their attention was turned to see the three that left earlier. Ethan was carrying a guitar case and was followed by Alex carrying the other. Brian closed the door and locked it behind them.
They took off their coats and shoes, then set the guitar cases down gently. Once they were settled with everything they walked into the living and smiled at every one.
"So what did we miss?" Alex said taking a seat on the chair he occupied earlier. They all smiled and Lynn went to explain what just transpired.
Now here Andy was taking some wire cutters to the trap she and Ethan set up. She raised her small flash light when she heard a noise and saw some more people showing up to set up their camp. She was really happy they set up a day in advance. Otherwise some one would have taken their spot. She was pretty sure that some of these people would be leaving right after midnight.
She was just about finished when she heard the snow crunching and it was getting closer. She pretended to be working on the wire, while holding the wire cutters tightly in her hand in case she needed to protect herself.
"Excuse me," she heard and she couldn't help but know that voice.
She stood up and turned around, "Andy?" Nicole said with a surprised smile.
"What are you doing here?"
*********************************************************************************
"Andy where are you? Everyone's about to wake up!" Ethan said into his phone. Andy should have been back by now. It never took her this long to take down a trap. He was organizing the food, drinks, and any last minute things they needed for tonight. He was about to call Andy again when he heard the front door open and in walked Andy with two cup holders with seven cups of coffee.
"What happened? You said you were going to be twenty minutes. It's been three hours. Everyone is about to get up!" He said as he helped her with the coffee.
"You're NOT going to believe who's going to be at the spot tonight!" She said in a loud whisper as they walked into the kitchen and set down the cup holders.
"Please don't tell me it's Vicki." Ethan said as he looked through some of the plastic bags.
Andy shook her head, "Worse."
Ethan stopped what he was doing and looked at her with wide eyes, "She can't be here! What the fuck is she doing here?!"
She took a step closer to him and brought her finger to her lips, "SHHH! She said she came up here to visit with Nate's family. That his family has been going to that spot for the last six years!"
"But wouldn't you think the trio would have recognized Nate when we were at Mary's?!" They heard a door close and they both looked at the door way.
"We'll talk about this later. Right now let's get the Jeep ready."
"This isn't over!" He said and then Angel walked into the kitchen.
"Good morning sunshine!" Ethan said and handed her a cup of coffee.
"No Andy coffee this morning?" She asked confused.
Andy shook her head, "Not this morning. I couldn't really sleep, so I got up super early and did a coffee run. Took forever though. But I got one for everyone."
Andy grabbed a few of the plastic bags and started to walk out of the kitchen.
Angel looked after her and then looked back at Ethan, "Is she okay?"
Ethan nodded, "Yeah, she gets kinda stressed out when she's gets behind on things. Good morning sweetness!" He said as Brian walked into the kitchen and
Ethan gave him a cup of coffee, "No Andy coffee?"
"Apparently not today." Angel said taking a sip of her coffee.
Andy walked into the kitchen on her phone, "Yeah, I'm walking fine mom, I promise." She looked through some of the plastic bags until she found what she wanted to take to the Jeep.
"I'll have Dr. Samson look at it when I get back." She stopped looking through the bags and rolled her eyes.
"No mom I'm not going to ask her out. Well for one she's married, two she's straight, and three I'm seeing someone."
"Good morning bright eyes!" Ethan said to Alex and gave him a cup of coffee he was about to ask what Angel and Brian asked.
"No Andy coffee today," Brian answered his confused look.
"Mom, please. I'm only twenty nine," she said and grabbed a few more bags and walked out of the kitchen.
Ethan couldn't help but chuckle, "Good morning bed head!" He said to David giving him a cup of coffee.
"There's no Andy coffee today." Alex said with a sad sigh.
Ethan smiled at him and put a hand on his shoulder, "Don't worry, you'll have ALL tour to learn how to make her coffee. Good morning star shine!" He said just as Lynn walked into the kitchen and he gave her a cup of coffee.
She too gave a confused look, "No Andy coffee this morning. She ran out and grabbed some for everyone." Angel explained as Andy came into the kitchen still on her phone.
"I know mom," she said as she walked up to Lynn and gave her a kiss on her cheek then went back to looking through some of the bags.
"You'll meet her mom, don't worry. I know mama," she grabbed the last couple of bags and walked out of the kitchen.
"She seems to be walking fine." Alex pointed out and everyone nodded.
"Haven't checked the bruising yet, but she seems to be okay." Ethan told everyone just as she walked back in and looked at him.
"Where's the fire wood?" She whispered to him and he looked around for a few moments and pointed towards the pantry and she looked.
"Yes mama," she said as she walked over to the fire wood and picked up a couple of logs.
"She's gonna be on the phone for about another twenty minutes." Ethan said with a shake of his head.
"Y'all better get ready. Soon as Andy's done loading up the Jeep we're heading out. Plus you three still need to pick up the coolers." Ethan pointed out.
"Shit!" David said and everyone scrambled out of the kitchen. He let out a small chuckle and started to help with the fire wood. He passed Andy on his way out and she was still on the phone with her mom. When they passed each other she just rolled her eyes and he couldn't help but laugh.
"Yes mama, I did go to Midnight Mass." She said as she passed Lynn on the way to the kitchen to grab some more fire wood.
Lynn walked outside and Ethan took her bag from her, "Did you bring extra warm clothes?" He asked and she nodded looking back into the town house.
"Her mom always worries about her. This is actually one of the longest conversations she's ever had with her." He told her as he put her bag in the back of the Jeep.
Alex came out with his bag and one of the guitar cases. Ethan rushed over to help him, "I'll take care of these and you get the other one." He said and Alex nodded handing over his bag and guitar case.
He walked back inside passing Andy, "Mama, I have to go, I'm loading up the car."
After Ethan put away Alex's stuff he grabbed the fire wood from Andy, "That's the last of it," she whispered to him and he nodded. She walked back into the town house passing Brian and Angel.
"Mom, I really have to go. I have a big day and night. I fly back on the third. Then, I have my doctor's appointment on the fourth." She said as she started to walk up the stairs.
"She just wants to do a full work up that's all. Mom, it'll be okay, she just wants to make sure everything is ticking fine. No you don't have to come it's okay. You'll just be getting home from work. It's fine, I'll come over with Ethan right after and we can have dinner."
She reached her room and started to look around for her duffel bag. When she found it she opened it up and started to go through it; to make sure she had extra warm clothes. Then she looked for the extra duffel bags that had the pillows and heated blankets. She heard a knock on the door and saw Ethan. She pointed at the four bags and he nodded. He grabbed two of them and started to walk out of her room.
"No mom you can't talk to her. Everything's still new. Mom! Listen! Mom!" Andy let out a sigh, "Okay, okay fine, let me go get her," she said as she grabbed two of the duffel bags and walked out of her room. She met Ethan half way down the stairs and he took the duffel bags from her.
"Mom, give me a second. I'm packing up for our overnight camp." She said and rushed back up the stairs. She went to her room and grabbed her duffel bag and hurried out of the room and down the stairs. She saw Alex, and Lynn talking to David, Brian and Angel while Ethan was organizing the back of the Jeep.
"Do you have your stuff?" She whispered to him and he nodded as he took her bag from her.
He closed the back of the Jeep, "I'm gonna take one more look inside." She just nodded and started to walk over to everyone.
"Okay mom here she is," Andy covered her phone and looked at Lynn, "My mom wants to talk to you." She said handing over her phone Lynn's eyes widened and started to shake her head.
Andy smiled and put her phone back to her ear, "Actually mom can she talk to you later? We have to go. Yes, I'll video chat you when we can. Okay, yes mama, yes mama, I love you too. Okay bye. Bye. Love you too, bye. Bye mom." Andy finally hung up her phone, "Finally! Fuck! Sorry guys, she's just worried about me."
"All good, mothers always worry, trust us we know." Brian said with a small laugh.
"Why did she want to talk to me?" Lynn asked.
Andy shrugged, "She probably wanted to tell you to make sure I'm taking my medicine that I'm careful and that I don't do anything stupid. Plus Filipinos love to talk."
"Okay, let's get going, everything's good to go." Ethan said coming up to them. They parted ways and told each other they would see them in a bit.
Before Ethan and Andy got into the Jeep Ethan stopped her, "Are you going to tell Lynn that you know who is there?"
"Might as well. I don't want to keep secrets from her ya know." Andy said taking out her keys.
Ethan nodded, "True. Don't wanna surprise her."
Andy nodded, "I was planning on telling her earlier. But my mother had to talk my ear off." He laughed and they walked to the Jeep and got in.
"Alright let's get this party started." Andy said and started up the Jeep.
***********************************************************************************
"So which camp is hers?" Ethan asked when they pulled up to the parking lot. Andy parked the Jeep and looked around.
When she found what she was looking for she pointed it out, "That one with the big ass glamping tents." Andy let out a scoff.
Andy told Lynn and Alex that Nicole was going to be camping by them tonight and that she was up here to visit Nate's family. She told them that the only people that know she's in Boston were her friends, family, work, and anyone who follows her on her social media accounts. But Nicole has her blocked on everything. Plus she thought Nate was from Chicago.
This is what Andy was scared about. It just seemed that every time she tried to move on an ex would some how come back into her life. Before she started to date Nicole, Jessie came back into her life, and so did Ashley. Now it was Nicole, Vicki, and Ashley. Ashley was the ex she moved to Michigan with.
Those other times she would have fallen back into their traps, but this time something just seemed different and she knew why. She knew the reason was because of Lynn and she couldn't help but smile at the thought. She turned off the Jeep and everyone got out.
Ethan opened the back of the Jeep and the four of them started to carry stuff towards their campsite. Lynn and Andy walked ahead of Alex and Ethan. The sun was out and it was a little warmer than yesterday.
Once they reached their site Lynn said she was going to go back for the rest so that Andy could start putting everything away.
Lynn was about to walk away but Andy stopped her and pulled her close, "I believe I owe you a proper good morning kiss," she whispered and Lynn couldn't help but blush and smile. They slowly leaned in and their lips met.
"She wasn't like this with Alexa," Alex whispered and Ethan looked over at him as they were getting closer to the site.
"Really?"
Alex nodded, "Yeah, I mean she was affectionate, but not like this." They reached the site just as Lynn and Andy pulled away from each other.
Andy kissed Lynn's forehead, "Okay, if we don't stop we won't get this done," Lynn whispered and Andy smiled and nodded giving her one more kiss on the lips.
"Babe, as much as I want to continue, we have work to do." Lynn said with a smile and then she bit her bottom lip.
Andy let out a long sigh, "If we must." She smiled and gave Lynn one more kiss on her forehead. She let go of Lynn and watched as she and Ethan started to walk back to the Jeep.
"Hey Andy can I ask you something?" Alex asked coming up to her and she turned to him and nodded."
What's up?"
"How did you know you were for sure into girls?" Andy looked at him a little surprised.
"What brought this on?" She asked.
He shook his head, "I'm just wondering is all."
She cleared her throat taking off her sunglasses and looked at him, "Well I knew in the second grade to be honest. I wanted to be this one girl's boyfriend. I didn't know any better. I didn't fully know I was gay until I was about nineteen."
Alex nodded and started to take sort through the bags.
"Alex, are you okay?" She asked really looking at him.
He looked up at her and nodded, "Yeah, I'm just getting to know you a little bit more. I've spent most of my time with Ethan and I know him a little bit more than I know you is all." He gave her a smile which she returned.
The two of them sorted through the bags and she would tell him what to do with some of the stuff. Ethan and Lynn made at least four more trips from the Jeep to site and started to help set up the last minute stuff.
About an hour later David, Brian, and Angel showed up with the three coolers and everyone smiled. Andy asked David if she could see the permit just to make sure it was okay to start a fire at some point. He went back to his SUV and a few minutes came back with it and showed it to her. She and Ethan started to look at it and she found the section about the fire.
"Oh sweet, that works," she said and he nodded.
"What works?" Angel asked as she sat on one of the logs.
Andy looked at her watch and then gave the permit back to David, "Keep that with you. We might need it."
David nodded and folded it up before putting it in his pocket.
"We can start a fire in about twenty minutes." Ethan told her as he grabbed one of the portable heaters.
Andy was giving everyone hand and foot warmers, "We also brought some extras to put in your sleeping bags. Also we got some heated blankets too." She told them.
The five of them were sitting around watching Ethan and Andy go to work. They were placing the portable heaters, blankets, pillows, the hand and foot warmers into each tent. Then, they put everyone's over night bag into the tents they were going to be staying in.
Once they were done with all that they started to fill up the coolers. One was with food, one with regular drinks, and one with the alcohol. Ethan gave Andy a bag of ice and she started to fill up one of the coolers while he filled up the other one. She then filled up the last cooler and Ethan started to collect the trash and Andy started to set up the fire.
"I swear the two of you never sit still." David said and everyone laughed.
"Well when you work in a restaurant, there's no stopping really." Andy said stacking up the fire wood a certain way. Ethan collected the last of the trash and started to walk away from the camp to throw it away.
Andy got the fire started without any problems and she started to put together the small grill she bought yesterday. While they were at the store Andy almost filled up two carts of stuff. Angel joked about how she was going to buy the whole store. Andy chuckled at her statement and told her that she tends to over do things a lot just to be safe.
Ethan came back over and started to organize the pots, pans, plates, cups, kettle pot, and silverware they bought yesterday. After he was done with that he walked over to one of the tents and then came out carrying a plastic bag. Andy got the small grill together and placed it on the fire. She didn't have to look for the kettle since Ethan came up to her with what she needed.
"What are you doing?" Alex asked as he watched Andy and Ethan work together.
"Ever had camp fire coffee?" Ethan asked and they all shook their heads.
"If you think Andy's coffee is amazing wait until you try this!" He said as Andy put the top of the kettle back on.
"It's an old family recipe my dad had. He said it was passed down to him from my grandfather, and so on and so forth. When he first taught me how to make this on one of our hunting trips together he said that it was tradition for a father to pass this down to his son. But since he had two daughters he decided to break the tradition, because he wanted to keep this recipe in the family no matter what." She told them as she placed the kettle carefully on the griddle and Ethan started to get the cups together.
"You know how people put cream, and sugar in their coffees, or like a flavoring?" Ethan asked as he started to pass out cups to everyone.
They nodded and he smiled, "Well, I don't know what's in this coffee. She won't tell me, but let me tell you guys, I've never in my life liked black coffee until I had Andy's camp fire coffee."
"Well if it's as good as your regular coffee I'm sure this will be just as good." Alex said with a smile.
"Andy I have a couple of questions for you." David said sitting up in his chair. She looked up at him and nodded.
"What do you hunt?"
"Mostly deer. But if I'm able to get it off my dad and I like to go duck hunting too."
"How long have you been going hunting with your dad?"
"Since I was about four or so. Took my little sister around that age too." All of a sudden it got really quiet.
The only sound was the crackling of the fire, then Angel's voice broke the silence, "Did you ever shoot a deer?"
Andy nodded, "Oh yeah, got my first buck when I was five. Biggest one I got was last year. Got myself was a twelve point. Over the years I've gotten I think about eight that I can think of. Got three of them with a bow."
"As in bow and arrow?" Lynn asked and Andy nodded. Again everyone but Ethan looked surprised. She looked around at their stunned faces and just smiled and shrugged.
"When did you learn to shoot a gun?" Brian asked and Andy shrugged as she carefully rotated the kettle.
"When I was four. Started small, dad had this really old Smith and Wesson Revolver, I called it the 'Cowboy Gun' growing up." She said with a small chuckle.
"Anyway, we were near our camp site and he kneeled down next to me and he told me to stand in front of him. So I did. That's when he took out the gun and pointed it at the tree in front of us. He told me to put my hands on his hands and I did. He said there's going to be a loud noise and to not be scared. That I had the power in my hands. He counted to three and BANG! I remember crying because it was so loud and my hands shook. He told me that the older I get the more I'll learn."
"What about the bow and arrow?" David asked.
Andy thought hard for a minute trying to remember the first time she shot an arrow. "I was ten I think. Same situation, my dad showed me how to stand, how to hold the bow, how to place the arrow on the bow string, how to aim, where to shot. Breathing is a major factor in both bow and arrow and shooting a gun."
"Do you have a gun at your place back in Virginia?" Brian asked. Ethan and Andy both nodded.
"Andy has about three and I have two. We both take classes every six months or so to keep up with the safety laws or whatever. We both have concealed weapons permits and every Monday we go to the shooting range. On Sundays if we have off we go to her parents place and we clean our guns. Her mom just became handgun certified about four months ago." Ethan explained and he saw the disbelief looks on their faces.
"Ethan," Andy said and he looked at her as she nodded towards the kettle. He stood up and walked over to Lynn and nodded towards her cup. She gave him a small smile and gave it to him. He did the same to David. He walked over to Andy as she was putting on an oven mitt to pick up the kettle by the handle. Ethan gave her a cup and she carefully poured the hot liquid into it.
"Andy, that smells so incredible!" Angel said as she closed her eyes and let out the deep breath she just took. Andy smiled as she repeated her actions with the next cup. Ethan and Andy repeated their actions until all seven of their cups were full of coffee.
Alex stood up from his lawn chair and cleared his throat, "Before we indulge in this what I can already say amazing cup of coffee I would like to propose yet another toast." Everyone stood up and held up their cups.
"These last couple of weeks have been in a word amazing. Everyone here has made an impact on my life in some way shape or form. I get to make music with my two best friends. I get to come home to my other two best friends and now I get to go on tour with two amazing friends that I have become family to me. 2017 has been an amazing year not only for us but for you two as well." He said looking in the direction of Andy and Ethan who were smiling back at him.
"I honestly never thought I would see the day that two big fans would become two outstanding friends. I can't wait to go on the road with you and learn more about you. 2018 already looks better than ever. Here's to new memories, new traditions, and new beginnings!"
"Here, here!" Everyone said and they put their cups together for a moment. After they cheersed everyone took a sip. Besides Ethan and Andy everyone's eyes went wide. Ethan looked at Andy and winked. She smiled, shook her head and took a seat on one of the logs.
"Andy! You NEED to open a coffee shop, or something! Because this," Alex said and took another sip and closed his eyes. "This is fucking amazing!"
"What can't you do?!" Brian asked,
Andy just shrugged and Ethan pipped up, "Keep a relationship." Everyone laughed and she shook her head.
"I've been wondering that too." Angel said taking sitting back down on one of the logs.
"You've been in five relationships," she started to say and Andy nodded.
"In short terms explain what happened."
Andy sighed and thought about how she was going to describe each of them. She took a sip of her coffee and then took in a deep breath and let it out. Lynn sat next to her and smiled.
"Well y'all already know about Vicki, well after her was this girl named Jessie. We knew each other in high school. Lost contact, saw each other again. After our first kiss I actually wanted to vomit."
"Wait, why?" Lynn asked.
"I have no idea. Maybe because she was a bad kisser or something, but all I know is that every time we kissed I wanted to puke. So I ended that rather quickly. After her there was Ashley. We were great or so I thought. She broke up with me in the middle of Mary's told me I was stressing her out. I was stupid and tried to win her back. Hence the move to Michigan. Up there I met a girl Trisha, she was great, but that one I fucked up big time because of Ashley. When I moved back, I met Nicole and y'all know the story about her."
"Okay, so Vicki, cheated on you, Nicole cheated on you. You said you messed up with Trisha. You wanted to vomit because Jessie is a bad kisser. Why did Ashley say you stressed her out?" David asked.
Andy shrugged, "I think because I was trying to back to school and I wasn't working at the time. I was trying to become a singer/songwriter, and I guess not making much money was a damper on our relationship. Oh, and one more thing about Ashley," she started to say as she took another sip of her coffee.
"Four months before I left Michigan, I was asleep on the couch in the living room and she woke me up, and told me that she was pregnant."
Alex spit out his coffee, Angel dropped her cup on the ground, Brian looked at Andy as if she grew another head. David did a double take, and Lynn looked at Andy with wide eyes.
Ethan stood up and looked at her, "It's getting close to lunch, wanna start getting everything ready?" Andy nodded and stood up as well. They walked over to the coolers leaving everyone in a stunned silence.
***********************************************************************************
"Now I can't wait for dinner." Alex said finishing off his plate and everyone chuckled. Ethan was once again going around collecting trash and Andy was cleaning up the couple of pans and utensils they used.
"I'm still stuck on the fact your ex-girlfriend was pregnant." Angel said as she took a sip of her drink.
Andy looked at her, "Why?"
Angel shook her head, "I don't know. You said you weren't together, but I feel like she got pregnant to tie you into something."
Andy rubbed her hands together and then put the pans and utensils away. She stood up and put her hands on her hips and thought about what Angel said for a moment. After letting out her a small breath and raising her eyebrows she took a seat next to Lynn on one of the logs.
"What's wrong?" Lynn asked.
Andy looked at her then back at Angel, "I heard some one say that before. I just can't remember who. The memories are still coming back here and there. But I do remember feeling that I was going to be trapped in something I wasn't ready for." She started to say and Lynn moved closer to her hooking her arm through Andy's and lacing their fingers together.
"Do you not want kids?" David asked.
"I do want kids some day. But at the time I wasn't ready and I wasn't in a relationship with her. The day I want kids is the day I'm with the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. But I don't want to be pregnant."
"Why not?" Lynn asked.
Andy looked at her, "I just never pictured myself pregnant. So who ever I marry if they want to have kids with me I want her to understand that."
"Well what if she doesn't want to be pregnant?" Alex asked.
"There's always adoption. I do want a family someday and I do want to raise kids, but only when I'm ready."
"Ever thought about having a surrogate?" Brian asked.
Andy shook her head, "Not really. I've read articles that sometimes the woman would change her mind and keep the baby. So that I rule out." She told them and every one nodded their heads.
Ethan noticed someone walking towards them and he stood up. Andy saw him and turned around and saw Nicole walking towards them. Lynn could feel her hand tighten around hers and she looked as well. Andy kissed Lynn's temple and stood up.
"Hey, sorry I don't mean to interrupt but I have a question." She said stopping in front of Andy and Ethan stood next to his best friend with his arms crossed.
No one said a word and Andy was waiting on the question. Nicole looked around and saw that everyone's eyes were on her. But she avoided looking at Lynn because on her way over she saw how close her and Andy were. She cleared her throat and smiled looking at Andy.
"We can't seem to get a fire going and I was wondering if you could come over and help us out?" She asked tentatively. Ethan and Andy looked at each other, then back at her.
"Is your fire wood wet? Because that could be a reason it's not working." Ethan said looking at her with a hard look.
"Oh, I have no idea. Nate and his dad can't figure it out either." She said trying to again to not look at Lynn who stood up and stood behind Andy.
Andy looked over at Nicole's camp site and wanted to shake her head because she just saw a fire get started.
She pointed over and said, "Well looks like they got it going." Nicole looked behind her and tried to hide her disappointment.
"I guess they figured it out," she said as she turned back to them and gave them a weak smile. She didn't know what to say and she stood there for another few moments.
Andy finally broke the silence, "Bye Nicole." Andy turned her back to her and smiled when she saw Lynn. Ethan kept his eyes on Nicole and when she final realized Andy wasn't going to talk anymore, she turned around and started to walk away.
Ethan scoffed and shook his head. He went back over to where he was sitting and sat down letting out a long breath.
"Guys, I just realized something." Brian said as he watched Nicole walk away. Everyone looked at him and waited for him to continue.
"Remember our first night at Mary's and she was there with her boyfriend?" Lynn and Alex nodded.
"Guys that's Adam Nathaniel Harris. His dad owns like half the hotels in New York City!"
"Why didn't we recognize him at Mary's?" Lynn asked as she turned and looked over at the other campsite.
"Well if I remember correctly he was a little chubby a few years ago, then he like disappeared for a while. Plus it was dark in Mary's and he has blonde hair now. I thought he had black hair at first." Brian explained.
"He's been going by 'Nate' too." Lynn said turning her attention back to the group.
"I'm pretty sure he would be at Woody's on the nights that we would perform too." Alex said.
Angel nodded, "Oh yeah! He had a HUGE thing for Lynn!"
Lynn sat down and put her face in her hands as she started to recall the memories, "Oh my God! I remember now! He wouldn't let up. Even when I told him I wasn't interested!" Andy smiled sitting next to her.
"Small world huh?" She asked still smiling and everyone chuckled.
Lynn looked up from her hands and shook her head, "He was there like every night we were and would be right there in front. Like dead center in front of me and singing along. He would always flirt with me. He didn't take it too likely when I told him that I had a girlfriend."
"But that still didn't stop him," Brian said with a scoff and Alex nodded.
"I remember him talking to you and you didn't look too happy and we came by to rescue you. But again that still didn't stop him either." Alex said.
"Look at it this way though," Andy started to say.
"He became successful in something and so did you. I mean he's clearly moved on with some one else. But what I can't help but think that maybe he might have a thing for lesbians."
Ethan chuckled and nodded, "That's pretty funny."
"I mean think about it. He's with Nicole right?" She asked and everyone nodded.
"Now, I don't know about his past relationships. But if he was still hitting on you even after you said you were gay, then I have to wonder if he's one of those guys that has the 'You haven't met the right man' kind of thinking. I mean I've heard that before plenty of times, and it gets old."
"You do have a point. I mean, there are guys out there that try really hard to get a lesbian. Either to brag to their friends that they snagged one, or they're just desperate to get a girl in bed." David explained and everyone looked at him with surprised looks.
"How do you know all that?" Ethan asked.
He shrugged, "Well, when your little sister is a lesbian and you go to bars with her, you can't help but over hear conversations. I've lost friends over those types of conversations."
"That explains why I haven't seen Matty, Drew, and Frank." Lynn said looking at her brother.
He nodded, "Cut ties with them after what I heard what they said, and some things were about you. Didn't like it and I left the bar. They called and texted me the rest of the night asking where I was. Told them that I don't want to be associated with people if they don't respect a woman's choice. They told me they were only kidding.
I told them that it didn't matter. They said I was over reacting. I just told them that when my sister's name comes out of their mouths, followed with what they wanted to do I can't be around them anymore. Of course they said the alcohol was talking and they didn't mean it. But it didn't matter. They made their intentions known and I wanted nothing to do with them. It's my job to protect my little sister in anyway that I can. Even when I'm not around her. It took all of me not to punch them in the face." He paused and took a breath and leaned forward in his chair.
"I mean, I've known those guys all my life and I grew up with them. Lynn grew up with them. Then they started to say things about her. At first it as all in fun and jokes, but then things started to get more detailed and I couldn't take it anymore." He shook his head and wiped a stray tear that escaped from his eye.
Lynn stood up and walked over to him. She kneeled down in front of her big brother and just wrapped his arms around him. He returned her hug and held her tight. No one spoke a word as the two siblings just held each other.
Angel couldn't help but take out her phone and snapped a quick picture. No one wanted to interrupt the moment between the two siblings. They stayed like that for a few more minutes and they pulled away from each other.
She kissed his cheek and smiled at him, "Thank you for always being there. I love you dork."
He smiled back and kissed her forehead, "Anytime. I love you too goofball." They smiled at each other and she stood up and gave his shoulder a squeeze. She walked back over to Andy and sat down next to her.
Ethan stood up and walked over to one of the coolers. He searched for a few minutes and found what he was looking for. He came back over with a few bottles of beer and liquor.
"Let's get this party started," he said with a smile and everyone laughed and cheered at the same time. Andy couldn't help but shake her head and she went to grab new cups for everyone.
"Okay, so I just brought over a few things but everyone knows where everything is. Make your drinks to your liking and we'll keep it going all the way until midnight. Let's ring in the New Year the right way!"
"Hear, hear!" Alex, Brian and David said.
Andy was making her drink when her phone started to ring, "Fuck!" She said and then answered her phone, "Hi mom, hi dad." Everyone turned around and saw that Andy was looking at her phone.
Ethan shook his head, "Uh oh video chat."
"Andrea you said you were going to call me and that was four hours ago." Her mom said.
"I'm sorry mom, we were setting up and then we just got done with lunch." She said and took her seat on the log.
"Where's Ethan? Let me talk to him." Her mom said in earnest. Ethan heard his name and walked over to Andy and sat down next to her.
"Hey, ma, hey dad," he said with a wave.
"Ethan, how is she really? How's her stomach? Is she eating okay? How's her knee?" Andy's mom started to ask. Ethan couldn't help but laugh.
"Mom! I'm right here!"
"She's fine. She has her stomach medicine. Her doc prescribed new medicine for her heart. She's walking fine. She has a slight limp but she hasn't said anything was bothering her. Finally she's eating fine."
Andy's mom let out a smile and then her dad spoke, "Did you give them camp fire coffee?"
Both of the nodded, "Yeah it was a hit! They love it!" Ethan said.
"Andrea I want to see her." Her mom said and Andy looked up at Lynn who was talking to Angel and David. She looked at Ethan and he put his hands up shaking his head.
She stood up letting out a sigh and walked over to Lynn. She put her phone behind her back and when she reached Lynn she gave her a quick kiss on her cheek, "I'm so sorry about this." She said and Lynn gave her a confused look.
The next thing Lynn knew she was looking at Andy's parents, "Oh Hi!" she said and looked at Andy.
Realizing that Lynn didn't know her last name she quickly whispered it to her, "Mr. and Mrs. Hill. I'm Lyndsey."
"Nice to finally meet you." Kevin said and Susan just smiled.
"She hasn't been giving you a hard time has she?" Susan asked.
Lynn gave out a weak laugh and shook her head, "No ma'am she hasn't. She's been really sweet and amazing."
"Is she cleaning up after herself?"
"MOM!"
"Andrea!"
Lynn couldn't help but laugh a little, "Yes ma'am she has been. Also she's been an amazing host every time we come over to hang out. Her and Ethan both have been amazing."
"So you're in a band?" Kevin asked and Lynn nodded.
"You wouldn't happen to be in the band that she loves. The one with the weird name." He asked and Andy rolled her eyes.
"If you mean PVRIS spelled with a V instead of an A then yes." Lynn answered with a smile.
"When can we meet you face to face?" Susan asked.
"MOM!"
"Andrea don't make me count!"
Andy rolled her eyes and shook her head.
"I hope soon. We do have a show in Richmond in February. We start in Atlanta after Valentine's day. Ethan and Andy are going on tour with us, so hopefully I'll meet you in Richmond."
"I hope so too! It's nice to meet you. Hope to see you soon!" Susan said and waved. Lynn waved back and smiled.
"Andrea can we talk alone?" Susan ask and Andy nodded. She started to walk away from the camp site.
When she was far enough her mom gave her a look, "Andrea Michelle! What's this about you going on tour?!"
"I thought Uncle Chris told dad about the restaurant!" She said and Susan looked at her husband.
"I forgot to tell your mother."
"Thanks dad," she said in a sarcastic kind of tone.
"Well, what about the house? Or how are you going to pay your bills? Where are going to get money? I don't want you to blow your inheritance on this tour."
"Mama, I won't I promise. Uncle Chris said that if I wanted to take an extended vacation I could. I think I deserve this. I mean do you realize how many hours I've been putting in at work? Plus a good chunk of the money is going to you so you can bring over my new brothers and sisters."
For the first time Andy saw a surprised expression on her mom's face. "What do you mean a chunk is going to me?"
Andy sighed, "I was going to surprise before we left for Georgia." She started to say.
"I'm giving you and dad some money to help you bring them over because I know how expensive it can be."
"Babe, you don't have to do that."
"Mom, I want to. But hey I have to get back over there."
"Okay love you." Her dad said.
"Love you too."
"Andrea wait!"
"Bye mom love you!" Andy hit the end call button and walked back over to campsite. She saw Lynn sitting on the log and walked right over to her and sat down.
"I'm so sorry about my parents. Ever since Nicole they've been VERY selective of who I want to date."
Lynn smiled and touched her cheek, "It's okay. You dealt with my parents it's only fair." Andy kissed the heel of her hand and smiled.
Lynn leaned in and gave her a small kiss on the lips. When she pulled away they both smiled at each other and rested their foreheads against each others.
"So how long do you think before they actually do it?" Angel whispered to the others.
"I don't want to hear about my little sister's sex life thank you ver much!" He said trying to stay quiet.
"They came close the other night but Andy stopped it." Ethan blurted out then he covered his mouth. "Shit."
"Oh no you don't!" Angel said and she looked at him with a big smile.

"Are you sure? It's only nine." Andy said looking at Brian.
She, Brian and Alex went to the Jeep to grab Alex's guitars. Andy thought Lynn and Ethan brought them out earlier. But they said that they kept them in the Jeep just to be safe.
"Yeah, I'm sure. I'm ready." He said with a smile.
Alex smiled and gave his best friend a hug, "I can't believe you're getting engaged! I'm so happy!" He said and they pulled away.
Andy hugged Brian as well, "I'm happy for you! It's about time."
They pulled away and he nodded, "Okay, come on, before they suspect something." He said and they laughed. Andy closed the trunk of the Jeep and the three started to walk towards the campsite.
"We can put the cases in your tent for now and then when it gets close to midnight we can put them back into the Jeep."
Andy told them and Alex nodded, "Sounds good."
As they got closer to the campsite the three made their way over to the tent Alex was going to stay in.
Brian kept patting his pocket and Andy shook her head, "Calm down. You two have been together for a long time. This should be a piece of cake." She said as she opened up the tent while Alex was taking out the guitar from the case.
Brian nodded and took the case and gently laid it down inside the tent. He did the same thing when Andy took out the other guitar from the case.
Andy and Alex took the straps on the guitars and put it over their shoulders. They started to tune them.
"So how do you want to do this?" Andy asked. Brian looked over at the rest of the group and then back at the two.
"How about," he said putting a finger to his lips and then smiled, "You two start the song from here. But Andy don't start singing until you get to the fire. I'll stay behind you two and then after the final chorus you two separate and I get down on one knee and give a little speech and ask her. Oh and if she says yes," he started to say and both of them looked at him.
"She's going to say yes." They answered at the same time.
He chuckled, "Well in the good news she's says yes, Alex would you be my best man?"
Alex smiled really big and nodded, "Of course!" He said and pulled his best friend in for a hug.
They heard the guitar let out a sound. "Oh shit!" Brian said and Alex checked it, "We're good."
"Are you ready?" Andy said smiling. Brian looked at the both of them and nodded.
"Alright let's go." She said and started to play the song. Alex stood next to her and started to play the rhythm part of it. Brian stood behind them and he took a deep a breath breath.
"You ready?" She asked him.
He nodded, "Yeah, let's do this."
"You got this bro," Alex whispered. Andy smiled and she nodded to Alex with a smile. He smiled back and they started to walk towards everyone.
"I mean, how could you not like that movie?!" Ethan said with a laugh and everyone joined in.
"I know, Kendrick was so good in that movie I can't wait to see the new one." Angel said and then she looked up and saw Andy and Alex walking up to them.
"What are they doing?" She asked. Everyone turned and saw the two of them playing the guitars and they slowly started to walk up to her.
The two wanted to make sure that Brian was hidden behind them. Ethan, David, and Lynn saw him behind the two and he motioned for them to be quiet. Ethan gave him a wink and a thumbs up.
"What are you guys doing?" Angel asked with a nervous laugh.
"Where's Brian? I thought he left with you two."
Alex and Andy looked at each other with a smile and then Andy started to sing the words of the song Brian had requested.
"So maybe I've got a lot to learn
Or maybe I'm just hangin' on my words
Maybe it's not a big concern
But, if I raise my hand will I understand why I'm better with you?
So maybe there's not a lot to say
Or maybe I've grown doin' things my way (Yeah)
Or maybe things will be okay
But if I get it together and do something clever, I'll make it better with you
Angel looked at the others who just shrugged. "Guys come on, where's Brian?"
They ignored her and Andy smiled as she got ready to into the next verse.
So tell me, where did I go wrong before you?
Before you came along, well it seems like I was lost
You showed me how to do things right, now I'm, so glad that now you're mine
So let me say it all again
Lynn took out her phone and started to take a video of what was happening. This was something that she was sure Brian wanted to capture.
So maybe there's not a lot to do
Or maybe I'm just makin myself confused
Or maybe I've got nothin' to lose
But if I get out of line, just tell me you're mine, and how I'm better with you
When Brian texted her earlier today about what he was going to do she had to hide her excitement. She wanted to jump up and down but she knew she couldn't. Not when she was around everyone.
So tell me, where did I go wrong before you?
Before you came along, well it seems like I was lost
You showed me how to do things right, now I'm, so glad that now you're mine
Andy smiled as she and Alex started to slow down the melody. David and Ethan both took out their phones as well and they started to take video of what was happening.
So use me, don't let me screw it up
I believe you lord, I need your touch
Just a little spice of you could never be too much
I believe you lord, I need you now
To make it better all somehow
To make it better all somehow
"Okay seriously guys what's going on?" Angel asked again with a nervous laugh.
So tell me, where did I go wrong before you?
Before you came along, well it seems like I was lost
You showed me how to do things right, now I'm, so glad that now you're mine
The smiles on everyone's face were getting bigger, they knew what was coming next. Alex and Andy slowed down the melody again and Andy sang the final verse.
So use me, don't let me screw it up
I believe you lord, I need your touch
Just a little spice of you could never be too much
I believe you lord, I need you now
To make it better all somehow
To make it better all somehow"
(Song and Lyrics by Five Times August)
Towards the end Alex and Andy both stepped aside and Brian walked up to Angel. He got down on one knee and took out the small box. When he opened it up Angel gasped and looked around. Alex and Andy were playing a soft melody in the background as Brian cleared his throat.
"Angel, the first day I met you I knew we had a connection. Little did I know that it would take us this far. I never thought I would fall in love with anyone, then you came along. You turned my whole world upside down. You stood by me when I went off touring and you stood by me when I started to live out my dream."
Brian took Angel's hand in his, "I love you with all my heart and I can't picture myself with anyone else. Angel Marie Smith, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
Angel wiped her eyes with a teary smile she nodded, "Yes, of course!"
Brian's eyes went wide, "Yes? You said yes?" Angel nodded again and Brian let out a breath. He took the ring out of the box and put it on her left ring finger. They both stood up and they gave each other a kiss. Everyone around them let out a loud cheer and started to clap. They hugged each other and they couldn't be happier for the couple.
When Brian and Angel pulled away from each other they started to hug everyone else. After the hugs Ethan started to pass around cups with a shot's worth of whiskey in them. Lynn was gushing over how beautiful Angel's ring was.
"To Brian and Angel!" Andy said.
"To Brian and Angel!" Everyone repeated and they took their shots. Lynn and Angel were still talking and Ethan walked over to Andy handing her a cup with her favorite drink in it.
"Well Brian asked his question. Are you ready for yours?"
Andy shook her head, "No, but I'm sure I'll be okay. Definitely not gonna have a repeat of Charlotte when I blurted out everything." Ethan laughed and patted her on the back.
"You'll be okay." He said.
She nodded, "I mean it's not every day I ask a rock star to be my girlfriend."
"No it's not. 2018 here we come." They put their cups together and smiled.
"Gonna be the year of our lives." She said with a smile.
Ethan put his arm around her, "Couldn't ask for a better way to ring the New Year."
