Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not know Orlando Bloom. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
So, once again sorry, that it took me so long and thank you kindly for all yor reviews. I wouldn't have thought that you would all still read the story, but would have given up on me. Was glad to learn that you didn't.
Fanny - Of course everything is okay. I'm just studying literature, so I'm actually happy if I can spend some time NOT in front of my computer writing something. However, I really, really want to bring this story to an end at some stage.
Quinn - Well, I'm glad that you found me again. Hope this chapter makes you as happy as the others.
And just to tell you: There are better times to come...I just thought that losing a baby is something one has to deal with for a very long time.
Which brings me to the next one:
Anon - Why did I kill off the baby? Sounds so harsh, but I guess that's what it was. To be honest, I don't really know myself. The Story seems to have developed its own life. I just felt that the whole " and they lived happily ever after thing" - is not meant for this story. I'm not a big fan of that anyway (at least not when I am writing the story), because life, after all, IS full of conflicts and bad things that we have to deal with. maybe I just wanted to add a touch of reality - and drama - to it.
I hope that answer is satisfying. If not let me know and I will do what I can. ;-)
If you (or anybody else) have any other question, please, don't hesitate to ask. I will happily answer as soon as I find the time.
So, I guess that's all from me then. Enjoy.
Chapter Seventeen
It was dark and the house was cold and lonely. The rain outside hammered against the window and a cold breeze
caused Katie to shiver. She got up, out of the lonely bed and walked towards the window to close it. When she
closed the curtains again another breeze stroked her. She turned around in search of another open window, but
they were all closed. She shook her head in disbelief and shuffled back to the bed. When she was just about to
lie down again, she hesitated. What was that noise?
She turned and looked all over the room. She hated being alone in this house. Another breeze. The door shook
lightly. Katie shivered again. God, this feels like these awful horror movies, she thought and then climbed back
into the bed. She pulled her covers up to her nose. Then she stared at the phone and wondered. Should she call
him? No. She couldn’t do that. He had probably had a bad day and there was nothing he could do for her now.
Better not worry him. Just go back to sleep.
Another breeze, again the door shaking. Katie sat up and switched on the light. Ha! Not like the horror movies
after all. I know where the lights are!
She grabbed for Orlando’s shirt that he had left for her and slipped it around her shoulders. It was cold. Maybe
she had forgotten to close a window somewhere…House was big enough for that. Well, then she could just do it
tomorrow. But what if it was the door to the terrace? She was scared to bits, but knew that she would not be
able to fall asleep again, unless she had checked everything. Now be a woman and do it! She told herself. Then
she got up, slipped into her slippers, grabbed the baseball bat, which she always kept beside her bed, when
Orlando was not here. Being a very clever girl, she had also grabbed the phone.
What did she have a baseball bat for anyway? She was still wondering when she was already at the door. She took a
deep breath and then flung it open quickly, ready to hit. But nobody was there. Just to make sure she also
checked the sides of the door she could not see from her angle and then switched on the light. Another deep
breath. “You should really stop watching horror movies!” she muttered. She left the room, then hesitated. She
licked a finger, stretched it and waited for another breeze. And waited… And waited… And felt slightly stupid.
But then there it was. She shivered and had goose bumps all over her back. But not from the cold. There was
something odd about these breezes. She walked into the direction of the breeze, always ready to hit. Until she
came to the door. The key was in the lock. The door rattled slightly and she felt a breeze at her feet. She
sighed. No, not this door, please. But the breeze came again.
“Okay, Katie Stratford, you have to be a brave girl now…And you have to stop talking to yourself.”
She took another deep breath and turned the key. The door opened with a loud squeal. The bat ready to hit, there
was suddenly a warm light around her. The lovely sound of a baby melody was playing and she heard the squealing,
quaking sounds a happy baby made.
At that moment she realised she was dreaming.
But she didn’t want to wake up. With tears in her eyes she approached the cot and looked at the baby. She cried
silently and watched the baby. She didn’t want to move, for fear the dream might suddenly be over. And so she
stood there until the morning light once again, separated her from her son.

“So, what do you think?”
“Yes, yes, that sounds great…”
Orlando sighed deeply. “What sounds great?”
Katie hesitated. “What…-ever you just said….”
He grunted disapprovingly.
“I’m sorry, baby, really… I’m just….I don’t know…Just tell me again, I promise to listen this time.”
“What’s wrong with you? Are you okay?”
There was a crackling noise in the line and Katie raised her voice. “Orlando? Are you still there?”
“Yes, yes, I can still hear you. So?”
“I had another dream about him.”
Silence on the other end of the line. She could hear him breathe. When he didn’t reply she decided to keep
talking. “It was okay. It wasn’t a bad dream, really. Dr. Pecker would be proud of me. It was a good. I could
just see him babbling and squealing and laughing…I mean, I was sad when I woke up, but it was okay. I mean that’s
natural, right?”
“Yes, yes, that it is. I’m sad all the time.” His voice was hoarse. He sounded like he was suppressing something.
“I’m sorry, I…I didn’t wanna ruin your day or anything…It just felt good to tell somebody.”
“No, no.” he coughed. “You didn’t ruin anything. I just…it came by surprise; you didn’t have one of those dreams
in a while. I’m glad that you told me. After all, that’s what I’m here for.”
She could hear him smile, but knew it was fake.
“Yeah, I was thinking of going to the cemetery later on…”
“Really? I thought you were only there last week?”
“Yay, but the grave looked really neglected…it was very hot here and only very little rain, so I thought I could
water the flowers a bit.”
“Yeah, yeah, good. Go ahead and do that.”
“I will. So…What did you ask me earlier?”
“Well, as the doctor said that you’re all okay again and ready to travel, I was wondering if you could take a few
days off and come and see me…I’m missing you, you know.”
“Yeah, I know. I miss you, too. I like that idea. Really, I do. A change of location would do me good I guess.”
“I’m sure it would. Besides, I’m in desperate need of a hot woman here…ha-ha”
“So you’re doing a Hollywood movie and there are no hot women around??”
“Nope, none at all. Disappointing I know.”
They both laughed.
“Well, alright, I’ll talk to my boss and then call you again, okay?”
“I don’t know when I’ll be off, so I better call you, okay? Oh shit, here they come, have to go now, baby. I’ll
talk to you later, okay?”
“Okay. Bye. I love you!”
“Bye.”
He just hung up. Something was wrong with him. He had acted strange. Even over the phone she could tell that
something bothered him. Maybe it was a good idea to fly in and spend some time with him away from home. Away from
all the memories.
*
He hung up and sighed. Her last word still echoed in his head. “I love you.”
“I love you, too, baby…” he whispered. Then he got up and walked along the beach. He wouldn’t have to be back at
the set until in about two hours. He sat down in the sand and started throwing small rocks into the sea. He could
still be talking to her. He had been looking forward to it the whole day. He always counted the minutes until he
could finally call her.
What was wrong with him? Why did he tell her that he had to get back to work if he didn’t have to?
He took his phone out of his pocket and dialled her number…but then hung up again and put the phone away, before
it could connect. He rested his head on his knees and took a deep breath. Then he got up again and suddenly
started jogging along the beach. It felt good to run. He did it every morning, but so far he’d never done it
during the day – or in his costume. The sun was burning down on him. He ran until he could hardly breathe
anymore. He was sweating all over and tried to regain control over his breath. He kept walking for a while until
his heart beat and breathe were more or less back to normal.
He felt tired, but restless. Tired and restless at the same time. His bones were itchy and he felt like he needed
to run all the time. Just run away from everything.
He needed to get Katie over here. He needed to work everything out with her. She needed to get over that baby and
start over again. Maybe they could move…He could surprise her with a nice place on the coast somewhere…She had
always like the Sea.
He walked around a cliff and then he saw it: The set. It looked absolutely impressive. And he was the lucky guy
to star in that movie. How could he be so unsatisfied? Where did the restlessness come from?
He needed to get Katie over here.
*
Katie breathed in deep and then out ad in again…There it was. Her baby. Her son. His grave. She knelt down in
front of it and put down the white rose she had been carrying. “You know, your daddy’s been acting a bit weird
lately. I don’t know what’s wrong with, and for some reason, he doesn’t wanna tell me. But I will find out. I
promise you. I will talk to my boss tomorrow and ask her to get some time off, so I can go and see him. It’s
about time. I have to check if there’s really no hot women around. I’m not gonna let him slip away, no, no way. I
did that one, if he thinks he can get rid of me again he’s on the wrong train. And I will stop it if I have to. I
love your daddy. I mean, He can’t do that now, can he? He can’t just make me fall in love with him and then run
off, right? Not again. No, no, no. I’m gonna go see him and then I will ask him straight out. No beating around
the bush, just ask him.
I know he doesn’t admit it…but he misses you, too. I know it. It drives him insane, just like it nearly did to
me. But what can we do? You’re over there now…and we’re here. I guess we’ll just have to make the best of it
until we meet again.
Funny, you’re the only one I can really talk to. And you’re my baby…”
She sobbed quietly, tears filled her eyes.
“I should better go now. Or else I’ll be late for work. I love you, my baby. Bye bye…”
having said that Katie got up and sighed deeply. She cast another glance at the grave and then went away without
turning around. Back to her life.
