hey y'all, just wanted to a quick thanks for all of y'alls reviews and suggestions. and about the flashforwards, there will be more, just sparingly because the way it is, i have to like drag out like an hour of flashforwards over an entire fic, so i realized after a couple chapters that i kinda need to do it sparingly, or else i'd be screwed, so yea, lol. anyway, here's another update.

"Seems the road less traveled
Shows happiness unraveled,
And you got to take a little dirt
To keep what you love.
That's what you gotta do."

"Hey," Kelly greeted as she answered her phone.
"How's home?" Carrie asked from the other end of the call.
"It's great," she replied. "Very relaxing."
"So, what are you doing right now?"
"Right now, I am taking a walk around my land," Kelly said, feeling the soft grass brush underneath her bare feet.
"You have a lot of property out there?"
"I have some, yea," she smiled. "So what's up?"
"Oh, nothing much. I just have someone right here that wanted to say hi," Carrie replied, handing the phone to the small girl sitting on her lap as they played cards with a group of kids.
"Ok?"
"Kelly?" the tiny voice asked.
"Hey munchkin," Kelly laughed. "What's up?"
"Nothing," Alex replied. "Teaching Carrie how to play go fish."
"How's that going?"
She lowered her voice, "Between you and me, she's not that great."
"Hey..." Kelly heard Carrie's protest. "I'm doing just fine thank you very much."
"Sure you are," Alex replied in a soothing voice, making Kelly laugh openly.
Carrie smiled at the sound of it.
"So Carrie said you're in Texas," Alex told her.
"Yea, I had a small break and decided to come home for a bit," Kelly explained.
"You're coming back to visit soon, right?"
Kelly felt her heart crumble at the insecurity in the small child's voice. "Real soon," she promised. "I'm only gonna be here a few more days, but as soon as I'm back in Nashville, I'm all your's."
"You have a lot of toys at your house?" Alex asked.
"Tons," Kelly smiled
"Like what?"
"Well, I have go carts and a play house and video games and a lake..."
"You know, maybe one day, on a good day, when I'm feeling better, maybe I could go with you when you go home?"
"Yea," Kelly nodded, thankful that she was only speaking to her through the phone as she wiped away a tear. "Of course you can."
"Cool beans," she beamed. "Carrie wants to talk to you," she said, handing Carrie the phone as the country singer picked her up and put her on the side of her so she could stand.
"I'll be right back," Carrie told Alex as she walked away so she could talk to the Texan. "Hey again."
"So, um, how's my girl doing?" Kelly asked, sniffing.
"She's good," Carrie nodded, watching the children playing. "She seems to be feeling better. The nurse said she's eating more. She still talks about you all the time."
"Good," Kelly replied, sitting beneath a tree.
"Are you okay?" Carrie asked.
"I just feel like I'm not doing enough," she admitted, rubbing her eyes tiredly.
"Kell," Carrie sighed. "You're already doing way more than what any other person would."
"But there has to be something more."
"Yea, there is."
"Really?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded. "You can stop beating yourself up about something that is out of your hands."
Kelly groaned.
"No, listen to me, ok? You've already given that little girl way more than is necessary. You've given her the opportunity to grow up and live a full and happy life. What more could anyone ask from you? You're paying for the best doctors and the best technology. You're here with her all the time. There's nothing left to do but pray."
"I've been doing that."
"I know," Carrie smiled softly. "It's in His hands now, alright?"
"Yea," she mumbled.
"Kell..."
"Alright," she replied, more firmly than before.
"Good," Carrie replied. "You're a great person, Kell--"
"You don't know me well enough to say that yet."
"I've gotten to know you plenty over the past couple months, and I think I know you perfectly well enough to say it. So...you're a great person, Kell--one of the best I know, actually. I just wish that sometimes you could see it too."
Kelly sighed, resting her chin on her knees that were pulled up to her chest.
"Well, I've got to go. Alex is starting to give me those eyes, telling me that I better get back there or I'll be in trouble. I swear, you taught her that."
Kelly laughed softly, "Alright."
"So, I'll talk to you soon."
"Ok," Kelly replied. "And Care, could you just..."
"I got her," Carrie smiled.
"Thanks."
