Disclaimer: This story is a work of fiction. I do not profit monetarily from this work. I don't know Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. |
I know it's been a couple weeks since the last update. School started though, so I've been really busy with stuff for that. I wanted to post this though because I had time to write this past weekend.
Really glad that you guys liked how cute the last chapter was, this first half is along the same lines, so I hope it's not too repetitive :)
Ch 18 pt 1
Kelly glanced through her pda at the list of her upcoming appearances that Jason had sent to her. She was glad that the shows were still on, though she wished she had a little more time to spend with Carrie. “Did you have fun when all of us were out celebrating?” Kelly turned her head a bit to see if Carrie was paying attention to her. She was right next to Carrie, actually resting comfortably against the taller girl, but Carrie was watching SportsCenter.
It took Carrie a moment to realize that Kelly had asked her something. She directed her attention away from the arguing sports commentators and smiled at Kelly. “What was that, Kel?” She had seen the games the guys were talking about, so she didn’t mind not listening to the commentators’ opinions. Kelly had been busy with the schedule anyway. Carrie put her arm around Kelly when the other girl gave her a look for her question. “Are you finished with reading your schedule, ‘cuz I can turn this off if you are.”
Kelly rolled her eyes at Carrie’s cute, although lame, attempt to cover up the blonde’s interest in the show. “Go ahead and leave it on, smooth talker.” She snuggled closer as Carrie grinned. She didn’t care if they watched sports as long as Carrie listened. “I was just asking if you had fun out with our friends last week at that club.”
Carrie happily put her arm around Kelly once the other girl was satisfied with their positions. “Of course I did. I always have fun with Jase and-” When Kelly giggled at her for the nickname, Carrie just smiled; she felt more comfortable with the nickname the more she hung out with Jason. “I had fun with everyone. Did you?”
Kelly nodded as she slipped her arm around Carrie’s waist. “You mentioned earlier that Tommy wants to get together. We could if you wanted?” She would like to get everyone together for an informal dinner; her only concern though was Tommy. She had noticed him watching them at the club. Kelly didn’t know if Carrie had noticed, or if Tommy had tried to talk to Carrie, but she knew something had happened between the two because of the tone Carrie had used earlier.
Carrie looked at the TV; she didn’t want to give Tommy the chance to ask her or Kelly anything if they went out with the other couple. “I don’t know if I want to do something with him and Hector.” Carrie didn’t want to tell Kelly about how the idea of Tommy knowing about them made her nervous. She felt like she could tell Kelly how she felt, she just didn’t want to tell. Carrie wanted to take her time with Kelly because their relationship was something she wanted; she didn’t want to deal with Tommy and how he would react. “I just want to spend this time with you.”
Kelly was happy to hear that Carrie wanted to spend so much time together, and Carrie had inadvertently brought up the topic she wanted to talk about with the other girl. “I want to spend time with you too, but I don’t want to keep you from your friends.” Kelly turned so that she partially faced Carrie. “I wouldn’t mind getting everyone together for dinner or something.” She wouldn’t make Carrie talk about Tommy, but she did want to know how Carrie felt about having dinner with everyone. She wanted to ask Carrie to come with her to Texas, which she wouldn’t if Carrie wasn’t comfortable enough to have dinner with their friends.
“We could do that.” Carrie would still prefer to spend the days off that they had together, but she would rather get together as a group than deal with Tommy on her own. She had seen the way he had stared when she had danced with Kelly at the club. Carrie leaned forward and kissed Kelly for a moment, and then she settled back and pulled Kelly along so she could put her arm around the other girl. “I’d really like it if we could stop talking about our friends though. I want to sit here with you. I like it when we’re like this.”
Kelly still thought that she had lucked out since Carrie liked to hang around the house like her. “Have I told you that I love your tomboy side?” She leaned up and kissed Carrie’s cheek, even though Carrie pretended to groan because of her comment. “You know we couldn’t just lay around watching TV if you were super girly. I’d probably have to get Ashley to put on my makeup and pick out an outfit for me if you were.”
Carrie just laughed while Kelly half hugged her since the other singer was lounging against her. “Yeah… weren’t you just telling me yesterday that you liked my girly side because I looked so cute when I met y’all at the airport?” She liked how Kelly let the feelings between them be known through casual conversation or jokes; it made it easier for her to do the same. Carrie patted Kelly’s side for laughing at her comment as she turned her attention back to the TV.
Kelly would have made another joke about losing Carrie’s attention to sports, but she looked up at the screen when she heard one of the men bring up the Cowboys. She almost missed it when Carrie started to rub her side while she watched to see what the commentators said about one of the teams she rooted for; however, she did see it when Carrie grabbed the remote to change the channel. “Hey, I want to see what they’re talking about.”
Carrie sighed. Of course, the one team Kelly would be interested in was the one with her ex. “Kel, why do you want to watch this? It’s not even about the Cowboys.” Carrie had to set the remote down when footage of her ex and the charity he supported started to play. “Seriously? Out of all the teams you could like, it has to be his?”
Kelly looked up at Carrie because she hadn’t heard the angry and annoyed tone in a few weeks; and certainly never directed at her. “I like the Cowboys and yeah, they’re not talking about the team, but it’s cool that they’re talking about-” Kelly quit talking as she remembered a conversation with Ashley. “We can change it, like you said it’s not about the team.” She hugged Carrie tighter and hoped that Tony hadn’t been the guy that had cheated on Carrie.
Carrie switched off the TV without another word. She knew she should say something because Kelly had probably figured out why she didn’t want to watch the segment about Tony’s charity work. She had hoped that Kelly wouldn’t find out which of her boyfriends had cheated on her, but it was her own fault since she had reacted so strongly. “He was the one I told you about, but I don’t want to talk about it. Do you want to play a game? I’m sure there’s got to be one that I have that you’ll like.”
Kelly didn’t have a problem with the change of subject. Carrie had told her about how Tony had cheated on her with another girl, had dated the both of them until the press had gotten pictures of him and the other girl, and that had been how Carrie had found out; though Carrie hadn’t used names. Kelly knew who the other girl was because of Ashley’s weird deal with reading tabloids. She remembered rolling her eyes when Ashley had told her about the triangle, and how she had said no guy was dumb enough to do such a thing when he got so much attention. Clearly, she had been wrong. “Want to play truth?”
Carrie gave Kelly a look for the ambiguous term; although she appreciated that there wouldn’t be any talk about Tony. “Like truth or dare?” Off Kelly’s grin, Carrie chuckled and sat up so that she wasn’t slouched down, though she regretted the shift when Kelly pulled away from her. She knew Kelly took games seriously because of the other girl’s competitive nature, but she wanted to hold Kelly after seeing Tony. “Okay, what are the rules for truth?”
Kelly didn’t want to play truth or dare, she just hadn’t thought out her words before she had spoken. It only took her a moment to figure out a way she could turn the situation into something fun. “We’ll ask each other a question, and if we like the answer given, the person answering gets a kiss.” When Carrie snickered at the game she had made up on the spot, Kelly rolled her eyes. She knew it wasn’t the best idea, but it wasn’t like Carrie had gotten any games out for them.
Carrie brought her hand up to the back of Kelly’s neck and brought the other girl in for a short kiss. “I liked your answer.” She had to grin when Kelly blushed. It was a silly game, though she didn’t care. “I also liked that you thought up a game that consists of kissing and talking. You totally set this up to be a game you win, but I’m pretty sure that you winning works to my advantage.” Carrie knowingly stared into Kelly’s eyes as the shorter girl leaned in to kiss her for her statement.
Kelly wasn’t sure what she had done for Carrie to feel the same way she felt, especially now that she knew about Carrie and Tony, so she softly kissed the other girl. She took her time because even though she casually talked about her feelings, she also thought that the blonde probably needed to know that she was serious. Kelly lifted her hands to Carrie’s hair as she continued to brush her lips lightly against Carrie’s. Despite her intentions, it wasn’t too long before their separation caught up with her and made her want to go further. Kelly leaned back and stared at Carrie for a moment or two before she spoke. “I think you’re stunning, and he’s-”
Carrie brought their lips back together so that Kelly couldn’t say any more sweet things. She didn’t want to waste their time talking about the past. If there was anything she knew for sure after the past few weeks, it was that Kelly wasn’t playing around with her, even with the time that they spent apart. Carrie wrapped her arms around Kelly’s waist so the shorter girl would understand what she needed. When Kelly tightened the grip on her hair and moaned, Carrie took the opportunity to slip her tongue past Kelly’s lips and deepen their kiss.
Part of Kelly was a tiny bit surprised by Carrie’s choice of interrupting her, but she wasn’t upset or worried by any means. She allowed Carrie to control their kiss because she didn’t want to move too fast, and for the chance to relish in her own response and feelings to Carrie’s exploration. She hadn’t felt as close to Carrie as she felt now even while they had danced with each other. As Carrie pushed her back down so that they were laying on the couch, Kelly ignored the rise in her excitement level at the fact that Carrie had managed the move without losing contact with her lips, and moved onto her side. She was unsure if Carrie had become unbalanced or had purposefully shifted their positions. Kelly tilted her head away to ask, but Carrie didn’t let her.
Carrie assured Kelly with a kiss instead of a verbal reply; and in return Kelly put an arm around her waist. She almost smiled into their kiss because she knew she had guessed what Kelly would have said. Carrie automatically moved her hand from Kelly’s side to the brunette’s hip. She was slightly disappointed that she couldn’t hold Kelly with both hands any longer, though that they were physically closer more than made up for the fact. The action of holding onto Kelly’s hips had been something that she had done without thinking when they had first started kissing, but now it didn’t have the same reassuring effect for some reason. Carrie uncertainly moved her hand up and over Kelly’s hip in a search for a form of contact that would give her more of the same feelings of intimacy that she had felt during their first kisses.
Kelly was caught off guard by Carrie laying them out, but she didn’t try to question Carrie’s actions when the blonde started to touch along her hip and side. She always thought about how their interactions might affect Carrie, though now Kelly thought that she had worried over nothing. She tried to keep her attention on their kisses, however Carrie’s roaming hand made such a thing difficult. Kelly almost wanted to grab Carrie and move the girl’s hand underneath her shirt so that she could feel Carrie without any barriers. Kelly slid her hand down to Carrie’s stomach, so that she could move her hand back to Carrie’s neck without dislodging the firm touch on her own body, but Carrie pulled her closer and moaned against her mouth.
Carrie loosened her grip on Kelly’s back when she realized she had inadvertently trapped Kelly’s hand in between them. She had felt too close to Kelly to let go completely though, and Carrie reverted to her previous motions of running her hand up and down Kelly’s back. The only thought in her mind was that she wanted to become more familiar with Kelly’s body; although when Kelly’s hand slid up her torso, Carrie forgot and pulled the brunette closer before she turned them so that she was laying on top of Kelly. Carrie just held Kelly with both of her hands while the other girl moved a hand to the back of her neck and brought her down for another kiss. She had always enjoyed their kisses, but the pop singer must have been holding back on her before for some reason. Carrie moved one of her hands to the couch to support herself better because Kelly’s insistent lips made her feel lightheaded; her other hand she slipped down to Kelly’s thigh so that she could move closer. Carrie ended their kiss and stared at Kelly when she realized what she was doing. She knew what she was feeling, but she was surprised and not surprised at the same time at how quickly their initial kiss had escalated.
It took Kelly longer than she would like to admit to figure out that Carrie hadn’t stopped because of couch issues or whatever. She lightly rubbed her hand along the length of Carrie’s back as they looked into each other’s eyes. Kelly only planned to continue the motion until she had regained enough breath to reassure Carrie with words. She thought Carrie looked relatively calm though, however she knew there was a good chance that she was just projecting what she wanted Carrie to feel because she didn’t want to think about how she should have taken it slower. “It’s all right. Are you,” Kelly didn’t want to ask if Carrie was okay, because of course there was a part of Carrie that was freaked out by their making out, so she left the sentence unfinished.
Carrie nodded and moved back onto her side. She couldn’t think about the different feelings if she was touching Kelly; she would only want to continue what they were doing, and she knew that wasn’t good for either of them at the moment. Carrie bit the inside of her lip when Kelly didn’t turn towards her. “I’m not upset or anything. I’m just kinda surprised.” Carrie reached out and put her arm around Kelly. She smiled a little when Kelly turned towards her and let her hold the other girl closer. “It was all… kinda fast, and that surprised me, but it didn’t too.” She noticed a worried expression cross Kelly’s face before the shorter girl could hide it, and she hurried to explain her thoughts. “I mean I’m not surprised because we’re good. I just thought it would take longer because of the past.” Carrie leaned in and brushed her lips against Kelly’s before they got off track. “I’m just glad no one called and interrupted.”
Kelly giggled at the joke; she wouldn’t have laughed if Carrie had been upset at their making out, but Carrie was okay. If Carrie’s glances were anything to go by, Kelly thought that the other girl wanted to continue from where they had stopped. “We’re lucky Jason didn’t show up with a printed out version of my schedule. Hell, I’m still expecting him to start knocking on the door.” Kelly idly caressed Carrie’s back with one hand as Carrie laughed at her joke. She wanted to ask Carrie about her plan. She thought that Carrie would say yes. Kelly took a few moments to gather up her courage; unfortunately, Carrie began to kiss her sweetly. “There’s something I wanted to ask you, but I need a few minutes to remember what I planned to say because of,” Kelly looked down towards their close positions so that Carrie would understand without her embarrassing either of them. “And that means no more of your wonderful kisses also.”
Carrie tried not to grin, she failed though and Kelly lightly tapped her on her back. Even though she had gone with whatever she had felt while they were making out, it made Carrie feel good to know that she had affected Kelly. She knew that there shouldn’t be a difference in how she perceived her relationship with Kelly, and she hadn’t compared how it had felt to make out with Kelly to one of her exes, but she liked hearing that she had done something right for Kelly. “I love how you had no problem making out with me, but you totally have issues saying that we got turned on.” Carrie chuckled when Kelly blushed and softly hit her for joking about their current circumstances. “While you’re thinking, do you think you can let me know if you’re staying tonight?” She only asked because she thought Kelly might think leaving was the right thing to do or something.
Kelly shook her head at Carrie’s dumb question. She always stayed over; she didn’t know why Carrie would think any different. “Yeah, I’m staying here. We can’t really do anything at my house with Jason and Ashley running around interrupting people and all.” She paused for a second when Carrie pulled her closer and murmured an agreement. Kelly wanted to ask if Carrie was trying to make their conversation difficult for her on purpose, but she knew that she shouldn’t continue their banter. “I like your place, you know that? I really like that there’s hardly any interruptions, except for Ace. Did you see him tonight when he came in here and saw that we were snuggled up on the couch? I swear that dog thinks he’s the only one allowed to sit on this couch with you.”
Carrie interrupted Kelly’s nervous ramble with a chaste kiss. She knew Kelly liked Ace, so there was no other reason for the babble. She didn’t know if she should be worried or not. She was the one who was supposed to be nervous about stuff concerning them, not Kelly. “You’re not jealous over Ace being jealous, Kel. What were you going to ask me?”
Kelly had actually started to wonder where Ace was in the house, so she decided to forget about the whole jealous thing and just get on with her invitation. “Like I was saying, your place is cool. I feel like I can relax here, and you know I enjoy coming back here in between shows.” Kelly smiled and started to rub her hand along Carrie’s back again as she relaxed. “I want to go back to my home, back to Texas, before I get too far into this summer tour. And I was wondering if you want to come with me? It would be you and me, maybe a week?” Kelly knew she had to let Carrie think, she didn’t expect an answer for a couple days, but she wanted Carrie to know that the visit meant a lot to her. “I really want you with me, Care. I want you to see the other side of my life, you know?”
Carrie hadn’t seen that question coming. If she’d had to guess what Kelly wanted to talk about, she would have said that Kelly maybe wanted to ask her to come to a show. She did want to spend some time alone with Kelly. Even though they had privacy at her house, Matt could still drop by, or Tommy; not to mention now that she was out of the studio, it seemed like everyday that her family called her, which added up to a lot of time spent on the phone. “I have a few spots I have to do, so I’ll have to check my schedule.” Carrie wondered why Kelly had asked her now. Things had gotten heated between them, but she didn’t think she was ready to go on a trip with Kelly. She pushed her thoughts aside though when she saw the nervous look on Kelly’s face become more evident. “Of course, I want to come. I’ll call and make the arrangements.”
Kelly was relieved that Carrie had said yes, although she had been sure that Carrie wouldn’t turn her down, there was a part of her that had worried. “Great. I was thinking we could go back after my next set of shows? Is that enough time for you to get everything squared away with your schedule?” Kelly was not used to making time for someone because of how long it had been since she had gotten seriously involved with someone, but she would put off her visit until Carrie could come with her. She would gladly arrange the trip to fit Carrie's timetable since the other girl hadn't needed to think everything over like usual. “I’d be completely willing to push it back until you have the free time.”
Carrie was fairly certain she didn’t have anything going on around the time Kelly wanted to go to Texas. “Yeah, I’m sure I can work it out.” Carrie nodded her head a few times as she sat up properly on the couch. She needed some time to think about what the trip meant for them, and for her. She patted Kelly’s leg and smiled at the older girl. “Come on. I’m tired and want to go lay down.” Carrie tried not to think about how couples usually took trips because they wanted some romantic time away; she was probably stressing over nothing.
Kelly quietly helped Carrie check the locks and turn the lights out, just happy that Carrie wanted to go home with her. She followed Carrie until they came to the guest room. She didn’t want to sleep in the room by herself since Carrie had slept with her in it the night before, but she knew that was only because Carrie had been too tired to get to her own room. She also didn’t want to overwhelm Carrie. “I know you’re tired now, but I’m going to be up for awhile if you want to talk.” Kelly gave Carrie a brief kiss on the lips, and then turned around.
Carrie reached out and caught Kelly’s hand before the brunette got too far away. She would call herself an ass if it wouldn’t make Kelly think that she was crazy. She didn’t know why she had even thought that Kelly planned to have sex with her while they were in Texas; the other girl didn’t even think that they were sleeping in the same bed. “Kel, I plan on sleeping in my bed until this trip to Texas, not the guest room.” Carrie knew she wasn’t ready for sex with Kelly, no matter what had happened downstairs, but she did want to sleep in the same bed again.
“Uh, okay.” Kelly didn’t really know what that had to do with her going to bed. She really hoped that Carrie couldn’t tell how confused she was, though she let go of that hope when Carrie wordlessly tugged on her hand and began towards the master bedroom. “Actually, you go on. I need to change.” Kelly wasn’t quite sure what Carrie wanted. She wanted to spend the night again with Carrie, so she sincerely wished that they were on the same page.
Carrie gave Kelly a look for the strange words. She didn’t want to flat out tell Kelly to get in her bedroom and embarrass the other girl, so she just held Kelly’s hand. “Kel, you can borrow something of mine. I promise you I have something you can wear without ribbons or bows. Trust me. I don’t want you kicking me during the night for giving you something like that to wear.” Carrie turned on the lights to her room since Kelly wouldn’t be able to find the switch. “You can have the bathroom first, and I’ll get something for you, okay?”
Kelly grinned goofily, not even bothered by Carrie’s joke about sleepwear. “Okay.” She wasn’t even halfway across the room when she noticed that Ace was on the bed. “I guess we found out where he wandered off to.” Kelly laughed that Ace had come upstairs because he had known Carrie would end up in the room at some point. Her laughter faded as Carrie aww’ed and went over to the bed to love on Ace. “You’re so not sleeping in the middle, dog.” Kelly shook her head and ignored Carrie’s laughter as she walked on to the bathroom. She couldn’t believe that she had actually thought that she had missed the little dog.
****
Carrie slowly woke to the sound of Ace barking at something, possibly her, though she didn’t care at the moment why. She rubbed her eyes and turned towards her clock to see just how early her dog had woken her up; she would have to withhold doggie treats for the day if Ace was barking at birds again. Carrie shut her eyes and rolled back towards Kelly when Ace jumped up on the bed. “Ace, mommy needs sleep!” She mumbled a few more choice words as she felt Ace walk over her and Kelly until he was right next to her face. She knew Ace needed to go outside and that it was past the normal time she usually took him out; it was Kelly’s fault though for staying up so late. Carrie closed her eyes when Ace laid down on her pillow.
She didn’t have a chance to fall asleep before Ace started to bark again. Carrie sighed and picked Ace up as she got out of bed. “You’re gonna have to stop that or Kelly’s not going to want you in the bed again.” Thankfully, Ace stopped barking as soon as she was out of her room. She carried him all the way downstairs and then out the backdoor. Carrie snickered as she thought about how Kelly had slept through Ace’s barking. She was just glad that she was on vacation; otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to stay up as late as Kelly liked. Carrie waited patiently for Ace, though she groaned when her dog decided to run around the backyard instead of come back to her. “Ace! You better get your butt back here now or I’m leaving you out!”
Carrie smirked when Ace ran back towards her. She knew he wouldn’t let her go back to sleep, and neither would her body thanks to years of getting out of bed whether she had wanted to or not. She also knew that Kelly would be asleep for another couple of hours if the previous morning was anything to go by. Once she got Ace back inside, she went about her normal routine of starting some coffee and then setting Ace up with some food and water. While she waited for her coffee, Carrie thought about what she wanted to do for the day. She wanted to go for a run, but she had to wait for Kelly to wake up first. Carrie didn’t want to not be around after what had happened the night before. She wasn’t really sure what had her so… Carrie sighed at her inability to place what had gone through her head after Kelly had asked her to go to Texas.
Kelly had never pressured her in any way, not about talking out her feelings, or telling their friends. So, Carrie didn’t understand why she had just jumped to the opinion that Kelly would assume they would have sex on the trip. Carrie didn’t think that it was a horrible thing that she had thought about the possibility; people did normally go on trips to get away from stress, and couples usually went away together for romantic purposes. Carrie took a seat at her kitchen table; it was definitely too early for her to think about why she did anything these days. She didn’t like that she had misread the invitation. Her thoughts bothered her because she had been the one to take things further physically the night before, not Kelly. She had agreed to the trip, when she should have waited and thought over the idea. Carrie groaned and let her head fall to the table. “Please tell me I didn’t just screw things up.”
Carrie kept her eyes shut and focused on the coolness on her forehead from the table. She was so glad that Kelly was dead to the world, since it would be different problem altogether if Kelly found her talking to herself. She didn’t move a muscle until she heard the last gurgles of her coffeemaker finishing. Carrie got herself some coffee as she thought about how she needed to get a new coffeemaker; the old one had made the same sounds right before it stopped working. She sipped her drink and wondered how many of the little machines she had gone through since she had won Idol. Matt would know. Carrie froze as she thought about her best friend. She would have to tell him about the trip; she couldn’t just go off to Texas without telling him. “Shit.”
Carrie clutched her cup and started to drink her coffee as fast as she could. She needed to get the phone call with Matt out of the way, and then she could think about her conflicting thoughts. She did not want Kelly to overhear whatever excuse she came up with to satisfy Matt. It would be bad enough anyway that Matt would know that something was going on once she asked if he could take care of Ace for her. Carrie went back to the coffeepot and poured herself a new cup as she tried to think. She couldn’t use their friends as an excuse, or her family, or work. Matt would probably ask if he could come along if she said it was a sorority thing. Carrie took her cup with her as she headed for her house phone. While she reached the phone, she realized she didn’t have to lie at all. She could just tell Matt that she was going away with someone. After the way he had tried to push her at Sean, Matt would probably pack her bags for her.
She dialed Matt’s number and impatiently tapped her foot. Carrie couldn’t believe that she hadn’t thought of the solution before, though she just blamed her slowness on not being completely awake yet. “Matt? Hey, it’s me. Do you have a few minutes?”
Matt was glad that Carrie had called him. He needed to talk to her about Diana; he had planned to call his friend to see if she wanted to get together. “It’s good that you called when you did, Care.” He told Carrie to hold as Diana entered the room and rushed through it to get her things together for the day. Matt jumped off the couch and helped his girlfriend get out the door. With a kiss, his girlfriend was out of the apartment, and Matt picked up the phone. “You would not believe the morning I’ve had.”
Carrie sipped her coffee while Matt talked about something Diana had done. She usually didn’t mind letting Matt blow off steam about Diana, today though it seemed like her best friend talked about a million things the girl had done before he asked her what she needed. “I’m going away next week, and I wanted to know if you’d watch Ace for me while I’m gone?”
Matt slouched down and put his feet up on the coffee table. “Yeah, I’ll watch him for you. Where are you going, and how long is Diana gonna be mad at me for?” He knew that Carrie wanted to make it up to her family for missing a recent family function, so he was unprepared to hear Carrie say that she was going away with someone. “Hold on. As in you’re going on a trip with someone? Like a bona fide vacation where you’ll actually relax?”
“Yes. I mean a real vacation.” Carrie rolled her eyes as Matt teased her. She drawled her next words so Matt would quit. “Vacation. Ace.” She was going to smack Matt. “You know that I hate to leave him behind, but this trip is…” Carrie wasn’t sure what to say, and she was surprised that Matt hadn’t asked her if it was a solo trip or not, though it wasn’t like he had given himself the chance. “It’s an important trip. I’m going away with someone.”
Matt still couldn’t get over the fact that Carrie was taking a vacation that didn’t involve her family in some way. He wasn’t going to tease her about it any more though since he could tell Carrie wasn’t fully awake; she kept mentioning that she was going with someone. “I’m happy for you. I’ll take Ace, and I’ll call everyone and let them know that you’ll be out of touch for a couple weeks. The family and your manager are your own issues though.” Matt laughed at Carrie’s groan because of his reminder.
Carrie was waiting for all the questions that she was sure Matt had for her, so she was surprised when he started talking about some new movies he had bought. “Stop talking about that for a minute. Don’t you have any questions? And why did you say two weeks? I’m only going to be out of town next week.” She had finished her second cup of coffee and felt much more awake than when she had taken Ace outside. Carrie shut her mouth before she accidentally made Matt suspicious.
Matt chuckled at Carrie’s questions; it was a nice change of pace from the fight/make up cycle that he had been in with Diana lately. “Can’t a guy be glad that his best friend is taking a vacation? I mean are you really gonna make an issue of me letting people know that you’ll be out of touch for a few extra days?” Matt wanted Carrie to go on vacation, and if it was an important enough trip that she wasn’t taking Ace with her, then he wasn’t about to say a word that might make her reconsider. “Say: thank you, Matt, you’re the best. And promise me we’ll hang out before you leave.”
Carrie felt like the conversation had gone too easily, but she would take the out and go with it because it meant one less thing for her to worry over. “Thank you, Matty. You’re the best kind of friend I could ask for.” Carrie talked to Matt until he reminded her that she needed to call her manager as soon as possible about her vacation. She didn’t know what to think that Matt hadn’t asked her about the trip or about who she was going with. Although, she guessed that he could just be waiting until they were face to face. She didn’t like lying to her friends; and Matt always seemed to know when she was actively hiding something from him.
Kelly halfheartedly took a few swipes to turn the bathroom light off, but she gave up and shuffled her way back across the room to the bed. She didn’t know what had woken her up; she was too tired to figure that out and where Carrie had gone. Kelly practically fell back into the bed and made herself comfortable under the covers once more. It seemed like she had just gotten back to sleep when she heard someone say her name while the bed dipped down gently. Kelly smiled and turned over so that she could see Carrie. “Still sleeping. Come hold me.”
Carrie silently laughed and got back under the covers so that she could get back in bed as Kelly had asked her. “You awake enough for me to say that I made sure I could go to Texas with you?” She had called her manager and checked on Ace before she came back upstairs. She was a little sad that Kelly was awake, but she thought it would be nice to lounge in bed for a little while, not to think about the things on her mind.
Kelly shifted so that she could rest her head on Carrie’s shoulder and the blonde could still hold her. “We’re not leaving right now, are we?” She yawned and almost missed feeling Carrie shake her head no. “Then let’s talk about it later. I was having this real good dream.”
Carrie raised an eyebrow at Kelly’s words. She wondered what Kelly had dreamed about, though she wasn’t sure that she should ask. “So you’d rather dream than say… go on a run with me? Or maybe just watch some TV in bed?” Carrie looked down at Kelly to see if the other girl was still awake.
Kelly liked how they were too much actually to wake up enough to think about Carrie’s question; let alone get out of bed and go for a run. “Not getting out of this bed.” She stroked Carrie’s arm so that the girl would be quiet and let them sleep for a little while longer. “The bed’s comfy, Care. You’re in your cute jammies. Just go with it.”
Carrie laughed and rolled them over so that she could see Kelly clearly. “We have the whole day to ourselves and you want to sleep it away?” She got up to her knees and started to tickle Kelly. “I don’t think so! I think you should get up, and-” Carrie laughed as Kelly squirmed to get away from her. “Not, uh, Kel! Wake up!”
Kelly tried to get out from underneath Carrie, but she couldn’t stop laughing. “Stop!” She fought to control her giggles as she attempted to grab Carrie’s hands; it took her a minute, though she eventually stopped Carrie’s tickle attack. Kelly held Carrie’s hands against her stomach as she stared up at the younger girl. “I like right where I am, nothing’s getting me out of this bed. Not even getting to see you in some tiny shorts for your run.”
Carrie smiled at Kelly for a second. She couldn’t think of a time when she had found Kelly so cute. The pop singer was in some sweats and an old t-shirt of hers, hair all over the place, and Carrie couldn’t stop smiling. “Nothing?” She easily reversed it so that she had a hold of Kelly’s hands, and then she moved their hands to the mattress while she lowered herself so she and Kelly were face to face. “What if I cooked you breakfast?”
Kelly would have considered the offer if Carrie wasn’t on top of her. She leaned up and gave Carrie a small kiss. “No.” Kelly knew that she wasn’t going to get to go back to sleep. She didn’t have to let Carrie know though that she had changed her mind. Kelly stared at Carrie's eyes so that she would stop thinking about how the girl was only in some shorts and a tank top. “I like this bed. I might just stay in it all day.”
Carrie snickered at the comment. She knew what game Kelly was playing. Carrie didn’t speak up though because she suddenly understood why she had gotten upset the night before. She had been the one who had thought the trip was about sex. She had also been the one to escalate things between them. Carrie let go of one of Kelly’s hands and brushed back some of the brunette’s hair while she organized her thoughts. “You…” Carrie sighed and let her forehead rest against Kelly’s. “You’re so…”
Kelly didn’t know what to think when Carrie kissed her instead of finishing the sentence. Frankly, she wasn’t very concerned with what Carrie wanted to say since Carrie was looking at her so tenderly. The thing was though; she didn’t want to ignore whatever it was Carrie wanted. Kelly wrapped her free arm around Carrie. “You want to know what I want? I want my shows to already be over so that you, me and Ace can be in Texas right now.”
Carrie ran her fingers through Kelly’s hair as she thought about what it might be like. She was scared to have Ace out on Kelly’s ranch since it was such a big place. However, she did wish that they were in Texas, away from all the things that seemed to make it so hard on them. “I want that too.” Carrie moved a little so that all of her weight wasn’t on Kelly, but also so that she could still look into Kelly’s eyes. “You want to stay in bed a little longer?”
It wasn’t even a question that she had to answer; Kelly tightened her grip on Carrie and lifted her head to look for the remote. “Where’d you toss the remote to? I want to watch some cartoons. I totally won, so I get to pick what we watch.” A morning in bed sounded good, not as good as being home in Texas, but still good. Kelly reminded herself that she would have to tease Carrie about calling for the trip after getting out of bed. She stretched when Carrie pulled away to find the remote for her, although when she saw Carrie’s toned legs, Kelly took a deep breath and tried not to think about how cartoons definitely paled in comparison to making out in bed.
Carrie turned the TV on for Kelly as she ignored her thoughts. She had never noticed Kelly’s drawl in the morning; well she had, but she had never thought anything of it before. There were so many things that she had thought were cute, or quirky about Kelly. Now that they were dating though, it seemed like things were constantly changing. Carrie curled up next to Kelly since she couldn’t make herself stop thinking about them. She could at least be comfortable while she thought. Carrie had imagined them together once, while Kelly was out of town, although it hadn’t been until the night before that she had actually considered the idea of them sleeping together as something that would happen. It confused her that their relationship was like her past relationships because she had honestly thought that it would take her more time to get comfortable with the idea of kissing Kelly, and then sleeping with Kelly. She didn’t know what it meant. “You know you’re lucky you’re so good at snuggling because cartoons in bed is so-”
Kelly lightly hit Carrie’s side so the blonde couldn’t finish the joke. “No joking. We’re watching cartoons and snuggling. Then we’ll go get some breakfast and do that crazy running thing you mentioned.” Kelly would run, swim, even shop for clothes if it meant that they could spend the day together. She was not excited at the idea of going home and telling Jason and Ashley that she was going back to Texas without them. Carrie had made it so that they didn’t have to worry about others. “We’re just gonna think about us today, okay?”
