Everlasting Love(Pt18)
Nick was facing the blazing fireplace, he stood there in a stance that everyone, save for Kyle and Beth, had grown accustom to, his body ridged and hands clasped behind his back. The ‘arrogant pose’ Joe dubbed it a long time ago.
Kyle and Beth had been there less than an hour and received a 15-minute crash course on Nick and his relationship with the guys, especially Sav. While Nick was telling them, Phil would occasionally drop a sarcastic remark, to which Nick ignored. Kyle had never heard any of the stuff that Nick was telling him about. Sav opted to tell him very little in the beginning about his years with Nick, mostly the fun times. It also helped explain why Sav was sick now.
“You’re an arrogant bastard Nick.” Kyle was angry by the time Nick finished. “Your obsession just may very well have finally killed him.”
Nick turned slightly, a smug expression on his face. “So much like your father.” Nick rocked back on his heels and turned around. “He has called me worse, I assure you, but he still comes to me after all this time.”
“Why are you still here? It’s obvious to me since I came into the family that no one wants you here?” Kyle said and looked at Phil.
Phil in turn glanced at Nick, then just shrugged his shoulders.
“As mush as I would like to sit down and have an intelligent conversation with you Kyle, now is not the time. The reason you are here is for one thing…your blood. Then you can leave.”
Kyle stood up and boldly approached Nick. “I will stay here as long as he or Joe…or anyone for that matter needs me.”
“Once I have what I need, you are no longer ne…” Nick was cut off by the yell from upstairs. He brushed past Kyle and flew up the stairs to Joe’s room. He stopped at the door to see Joe franticly pulling at Sav’s shirt and running his hands over his bare chest. Nick rushed to the bed just as Joe turned Sav over to do the same thing on his back.
Crawling on the bed Nick grabbed Joe by his arms and pulled him around to face him, seeing the panic in his eyes. “Joe what is it?”
Joe focused on Nick, his eyes traveled down his chest, seconds later he was tearing at his shirt. Nick grabbed his wrists to stop him. “What are you doing?”
”H-he was, you were both…dead…Marcus…he d-drove…stake through…you were…”
Nick held Joe’s face between his hands. “Joseph it was another dream. Marcus is dead, Sav killed him long ago. He is not here. Look…” Nick finished pulling his shirt open, so that Joe could see that there was no gaping hole in his chest.
Joe ran his hands over the smooth skin and let out the breath that he had been holding.
“Philip my bag please.” Nick spoke in a hushed tone so not to startled Joe. He leaned over and fixed Sav’s shirt and covered him with the sheet.
Joe watched him in silence. Phil came back in the room carrying the bag that Nick asked for. He pulled a needle filled with Storm. “This will help you sleep.” Nick told him.
Joe slapped it from his hand. “I don’t want to sleep…the dreams come when I do.”
“Alright.” Nick said placing the needle back in the bag. “Kyle is here. Would you like to see him?”
“Kyle…yes, w-where is he?”
“I’m right here.” Kyle stepped forward, his eyes glued to Sav, trying to comprehend that the figure lying on the bed was his father. To him it didn’t look like the same person. “Why does he look so…?”
“He hasn’t feed in weeks.” Nick was telling him. “Our kind lose weight faster than the normal human.”
”And you say he’s still alive, but how? I barely even recognize him.”
“He is, we can all feel him through our bond, if we concentrate hard enough.” Phil said, coming to stand beside him.
“I don’t understand that bond thing.”
“You will one day.” Joe said softly as he stroke Sav gaunt face.
“Are you willing to offer your blood to help him Kyle?” Nick asked shifting on the bed.
“Um…yes…what do I do?”
Nick stood up taking his bag and went over to him. “Sit down, get comfortable and roll up your sleeve.”
Kyle sat on the edge of the bed and started rolling up his sleeve, then stopped. “Where is the doctor that is going to do this?”
“Nick is going to.” Joe said from behind him.
Kyle twisted around. Joe was sitting Indian style with his elbows propped on his knees.
“He’s not a licensed doctor is he?”
“No, but he can do it.”
“You’ll have to trust us on this one Kyle. Nick knows what he’s doing.” Phil put in. “He’s done it many times before.”
“What qualifications does he have?”
Nick rolled his eyes. “Does helping the soldiers in the Civil War count or should I waste more time in going home and digging out my certificate?”
“When did it expire?” Kyle pointedly asked.
“I believe in 1896 when I died.”
Phil stifled a giggle and cleared his throat when Kyle looked at him. “It’s alright Kyle, really.”
“May I continue or would you like to ask more question?” Nick pulled the necessary things from his bag and waited on Kyle to answer.
Kyle finally rolled up his sleeve the rest of the way and thrust him arm out for Nick.
Joe took the small tubing from Nick, uncapped the tube sticking out of Sav’s stomach and quickly attached it to the end. “Now don’t hurt him Nick, like you did me.”
”Be quiet Joseph.” Nick scolded him, easing the needle in Kyle’s arm.
“I don’t think I ever got you back for that.”
“I don’t believe you did.” Nick replied watching the blood travel down through the tubing. He saw the look on Kyle’s face. “It’s the only way to do this. I won’t be taking much, less for him to throw up.”
“Hopeful he wont.” Joe said softly.
“And if he doesn’t?” Kyle glanced at Sav.
“Then I’ll need to take more from you.” Nick said. “Don’t worry, it’ll be a little at a time. Then we can integrate ours with it.”
“How long will it take before you know if he can keep it down?”
”Probably before I decide to stop the flow.” Nick said holding Joe’s eyes and saw the hope in them.
No one noticed that Phil had left the room until he came back, carrying a glass of juice for Kyle to drink when he finished giving his blood to Sav.
All heads turned at Sav’s deep breath as he turned his head to face Joe.
“His occasional movements is another way we know he’s not dead, in a literal sense anyway.”
“The smell and site of my blood doesn’t bother any of you?” Kyle glanced between the other men in the room.
“Not really, we learn to control it.” Nick turned to Phil who nodded, then to Joe. “Well not all of us.”
Kyle twisted around again to look at Joe, his eyes had changed to a golden yellow and he was staring at the blood running through the tube.
“Joe maybe you should leave until we’re finished.” Nick suggested.
“No…no I-I’m alright. It’s just that I can smell Sav in him and it’s been along time since I was able to share a blood kiss with him.”
“Maybe when you have recovered enough from this exchange Kyle, you could offer your blood to Joe.” Nick gently squeezed Kyle shoulder.
”I-I’ve never done that, not even with Sav.”
Nick smiled. “It’s a pleasurable experience for both parties.”
“I’ll say.” Phil mumbled under his breath.
“I’ll have to think about th…”
A weak cough from Sav cut him off, his body jerked a bit, then settle. The minutes ticked by and Sav coughed again, blood oozed from his mouth. The muscles in his stomach involuntarily tightened, a larger amount of blood spilled out.
“Goddamnit!” Joe yelled.
Nick immediately stopped the flow of blood and unclamped the tubing. Rolling Sav to his side so his body could purge itself of the blood that was given to him.
“Phil…” Nick started. “Take Joe and leave the room.”
“What?” Joe yelled again. “I’m not leaving him.”
Nick looked at him hard, sending a strong message through their bond.
“But…I need to stay…” Joe said in a much calmer tone. He reluctantly slid from the bed. Phil took his arm and led him from the room.
“Is Joe going to be alright?” Kyle asked when they were gone.
“This is really hard on him Kyle. You would have to understand the bond they have, it’s incredibly strong.” Nick was telling him as he cleaned up Sav, then scooted him across the bed and removed the sheets. “I’ve never known two people, mortal or vampire alike with a bond they share, not in my entire existence.”
“And your entire existence would consist of how many years?”
”As a mortal I was born in 1196, then reborn as a vampire in 1228.”
Kyle stared at him in disbelief. “T-that’s a long time to live.”
“Yes it is. Perhaps, during your stay, we can get to know one another better, since we didn’t get the chance the first time. There is a lot you don’t know about me. If you want to learn more about the relationship between Sav and Joe, other than what they told you, ask Joe to read his journal and Sav’s. It’ll give you a deeper understanding and all became clear to you.”
“Ok, I think I’ll do that. So what do we do now?”
”Think Beth would offer her blood? If not, I’ll understand.”
”I’m sure she will. If hers doesn’t work, then what?”
”We keep looking, until we find one that will.”
“How long can he go without feeding?”
”A long time, but he slips further and further away.”
“Is he in any pain?”
Nick took a shallow breath. “Only what’s in his heart.” he replied softly. “You’ll sit with him for a while. I’m going for a walk.”
“Sure.” Kyle said watching Nick go out on the balcony and disappear.

Nick wondered around the grounds of Joe’s house. Stopping every so often to the look up at the dim light where Sav lay. 'Why can't I pull you from this sickness? What else can I do? My confidence slips more each day that you lay there....trapped in that dark void.' Nick turned from staring up at the window. Along with his losing his confidence, his fear grew. Fear of losing Sav forever. He had to hide his fear from the others, although they knew that he was.
Nick stopped his wondering mind and concentrated the on sounds outside. Saw Joe's silhouette and ambled over to watch him.
“You’re hitting those pretty hard.” Nick said as Joe swung the golf club in a high arch, his arms came down and smacked the ball. Nick watched it sail away into the darkness. “That one will probably land in the Atlantic Ocean.”
Joe chuckled and lined up another ball. “It might.”
“I haven’t seen you pull these clubs out in years.” Nick fingered 9 iron covered with a soft cloth.
“Yeah well…” Joe swung at the ball. “…it’s a good way to beat off the frustration and stress.”
“Maybe.”
Joe looked up from the next ball. “Would you rather I take it out on you, beat you senseless, cause that’s what I feel like doing right now.”
“It wouldn’t make the situation any better.”
“No and it wouldn’t make me feel better either.” Another ball flew through the air and disappeared. Joe turned to get another one, only to realize they were none left. “Damn I’m out of balls.”
“Maybe sharing your blood with me would make you feel better.”
”No, what would make me feel better, is for you to fetch me some more balls Fido.”
“Fido?” Nick said, amusement touching his voice.
“Ok then…Rover.”
“No, I don’t like that one either.”
”Spot.” Joe shot back.
“Can’t you come up with some a little more original?” Nick exclaimed.
“Um, lets see…” Joe brought the club up under Nick chin, pushing his head higher. “Nick the asshole.”
A smile played across Nick lips. “Now that is more like it.”
Joe dropped the club and grabbed the front of Nick’s shirt, yanking him to his chest. “A blood kiss you say.”
“Is that what you desire Joe.”
“No, my desire lies in that bed up there, out of my reach. Sav’s blood is the only one that can soothe my tormented soul.”
Nick ran his finger lightly up Joe’s chest, it come to rest on the vein in his throat. Joe shoved Nick’s shirt from his shoulder, exposing his throat.
“Take it.” Nick whispered.
Instead of going for his neck, Joe crushed his mouth with his, catching Nick off guard and again when he felt Joe’s tongue pressing against his lips. Nick gave into his demand, his mouth was invaded by his probing tongue. It was a brief kiss in the end and Joe made his way to Nick’s throat, sinking his fangs deeply to draw out the blood.
Nick titled his head for a moment, and enjoyed the pleasure of him. Gently pulling the collar of Joe’s shirt away, he eased his sharp teeth into his flesh, relishing in the taste of him again.
Joe pulled away first and licked the holes until the blood stopped flowing. He heard the soft rumble in Nick’s throat as he did the same. Joe leaned back and straightened Nick’s shirt.
“Now…go fetch my golf balls.” Joe smiled. “…Fido.”

Back up at the house, Evelyn excused herself from the conversation with Beth and Amber to answer the door. The bell rang again before she swung the door open.
Evelyn swept her eyes over the person standing before her. The black hooded cloak, shielding the figures face from view in the shadows.
