We would love to have you join the resort. When can we meet you? . . . Really? . . . Well, just so you know, we have an event planned for much of the day tomorrow, so . . . If you insist . . . Thank you so much. We'll see you then.
Madalina hung up her cell phone. She had just spoken with a model Captain discovered recently and really wanted to have as a member. He had contacts in the modelling industry, so it was easy to get hold of people. In fact, that was how most of the women from the last resort got there. Madalina redirected her attention to the banquet hall where she and Captain were planning Florence’s birthday party.
You ever go to a bar mitzvah and get one of those little pieces of paper that has your name and the location of the table where you’ll be sitting? Captain had those made for the event and was at a table arranging them alphabetically by last name. He did this by picking a paper at random from a cardboard box he had placed at his feet and putting it in the right order between the papers already on the table while he muttered the names quietly. He thought it was more intellectually stimulating that way.
“Eiza González . . . Ivana Baquero . . . Sonoya Mizuno . . .”
Madalina approached him.
"Captain?"
“Yes? What did she say?"
"She says she can get here tomorrow morning.”
Captain stopped sorting the names momentarily.
"Really?! That's fantastic."
“How did you hear about this woman anyway?"
“Well,” Captain resumed sorting the names and placed Lily James between Chanel and Alexa, “I was browsing the Instagram page of this photographer I like who worked with Raven and Daniela.”
Daisy Ridley went between Emily Ratajkowski and Margot Robbie.
“I saw a recent video he also posted on his page of this woman wearing denim shorts. The camera was just right up behind the shorts.”
Dorothy Martin went between Raven and Lauren Mayberry.
“Then she takes the shorts off, and they added the sound of the T. Rex roar from Jurassic Park. I guess the joke is that her butt is just as awe-inspiring.”
“Is it?”
Charli XCX (her real last name is Aitchison) went between Jhené Aiko and Ana.
"You tell me. I sent you a link to it."
"Oh, you did? I am so sorry."
"No worries. Just give it a look and you'll see. Maybe lower the volume first."
Madalina took her phone back out. Captain did indeed text her a link to the video he described.
Cortney Palm went between Rita Ora and Barbara Palvin, Captain glanced at Madalina out of the corner of his eye as soon as he heard the T. Rex roar. Madalina considers Captain to have good taste in women, and Madalina's reaction showed that this one was no exception.
"Verdict?" he asked.
"Well," she chuckled, "you have done it again, sir."
"Thank you, dear."
Silverrr (a model from Poland) went between Ava Sambora and Lili Simmons.
When he looked inside the box for the last paper, it was gone. Charlotte had been on the floor next to him, drawing in a coloring book while he was sorting out the names. She had just taken the paper with the very clear intent to draw on it. Madalina couldn't see Charlotte doing that because she was watching the aforementioned video and didn't even notice Charlotte had it until after Captain did.
"Charlotte," Captain sat down beside Charlotte and spoke calmly, "did you ask Daddy if you could take that? Please give it back."
Charlotte dropped the paper. Captain picked it up and kissed Charlotte on the top of her head,
"Thank you, sweetie."
With Jojo Levesque now in place, Florence's party was one step closer to being ready.
