Chapter 18: Family Trip: The Journey
Andy made sure the overhead compartment was closed and she took her seat next Lynn. She quickly put on her seat belt and let out a breath. Lynn kissed her cheek and took her hand in hers.
"You would think after all the traveling you did, you would be used to flying by now." Lynn said.
Andy scoffed, "Yeah, no. Heights and I never mix. Remember?"
"I can't believe I'm on a plane!" Mila said looking out the window. Lynn and Andy looked at her and smiled.
"It's a long flight to Japan. You gonna be okay?" Lynn asked.
Mila nodded, "I'm so excited! I get to see where Andy spent some of her childhood and then back to where I get to see your hometown! This is amazing!" She sat back in her seat and took out her notebook, "I want to keep a record of this. Just gonna write down everything. Sketch what I see!"
Andy smiled then reached into her pocket, "I almost forgot." She pulled out a small pack of gum and offered a piece to Mila. She looked up at her confused.
"It helps with your ears popping when we takeoff and land." Andy explained as Mila took the piece of gum. She and Lynn also took a piece. Andy put the pack back in her pocket.
Lynn noticed how nervous Andy was and she smiled, "Babe we haven't even taken off yet."
Andy chewed her gum nervously, "I know, but I hate takeoff and landing."
"Okay, tell me the plan. You're gonna talk to yourself in the next ten minutes anyway about it. So why not tell me now?" Lynn asked.
Andy shook her head, "Nope. Can't. Gotta have my structure."
Lynn rolled her eyes and turned to Mila, "Little fun fact about Andy, she always needs a plan or a list. After we take off you're gonna hear her mumble all the connecting flights we have today. Then, she's going to mumble about Okinawa. What it's like and a few things we can see and do."
Mila looked at Andy and couldn't help but giggle, "Does she not like flying?"
"She doesn't like heights." Lynn turned in her seat a bit to fully look at Mila.
"When she flies she has to have these things. Coffee, beef jerky, her earbuds, her favorite book, notebook, pen, and motion sickness medicine."
"Really? She sounds so high maintenance." Mila whispered and Lynn giggled.
"Well, she kinda grew up with structure in her life. I've heard from her coworkers that if she isn't done with something at a certain time she gets frustrated. But she always comes through in the end."
"You seem so carefree and she seems uptight most of the time. I'm trying to figure out how you two are even together."
Lynn turned her head to look at Andy. She was getting her book, notebook, and pen ready. She had her earbuds in her hand already plugged into her phone ready to listen to her music.
She turned back to Mila as the flight attendant came over the intercom letting the passengers know they would be taking off in a few minutes. Without looking at Andy, she took her hand in hers and she felt Andy's tight grip. She brought Andy's hand to her lips and gave the back of Andy's hand a gentle kiss. She felt Andy's grip loosen a little bit.
She looked at Mila and smiled, "You know how they say opposites attract?" She asked and Mila nodded.
"She loves sports, I just like hockey, but she's big into almost every sport out there. She likes doing a lot of guy things. But she says women can do them too. I like staying home and just letting the day take me wherever it wants to take me. She likes plans, lists. I've actually heard her talking to herself in the bathroom of what she was going to do one day." Lynn chuckled and shook her head.
"Is she going to have lists and plans for this trip?" Mila asked nervously.
Lynn put an arm around the young girl and smiled, "Don't worry, I have it on good authority that there won't be any plans and lists on this trip. She just wants to take us around to the places she used to go when she lived there. She always said it was the best three years of her life."
Andy watched as the door closed and she knew what was coming next. She sat straight up and put her head back in the chair. The captain came on over the intercom telling the passengers they were clear for takeoff and would be pulling away shortly.
"If she hates flying, why does she do it so much?" Mila asked.
"Well, part of it is because she loves to travel. The other part is mostly her career requires it. Before Angel and Brian's wedding she was on I think about five different planes. But what really stressed her out was when she had to fly to Vermont from Florida. That's a story for her to tell you one day." Lynn explained. The plane started to move and Andy closed her eyes.
Lynn turned to her and Mila just watched as Lynn started to soothe a nervous Andy. She still couldn't understand how the two of them got together. She couldn't wait to hear all the stories the two have. Her attention turned to the flight attendants doing the safety briefing and she watched intensely.
When the briefing was done, Mila looked out the window and smiled. She couldn't believe she was going to another country. She still felt like she was in a dream. Andy and Lynn took her away from that awful foster home and she as put in their care until the adoption went through. She was going to be part of a family she always wanted. She thought her time had passed, but then the two of them showed up at her high school. It was like Fate brought all three of them together.
The plane started to move and Mila looked out of the window in awe. She felt as if she was in a dream. If she was she didn't want to wake up. She would be part of a loving family she always dreamed of. She was brought out of her thoughts hearing Lynn's voice.
"What?" She asked, turning her head to Lynn.
Lynn let out a soft chuckle, "I said, make sure your seatbelt is on, and your cell phone is in airplane mode or turned off."
Mila nodded and checked her seatbelt. Then she took out her cell phone and turned it off. She looked at Lynn and returned her smile. She looked over at Andy. She had her eyes closed and her head back on the headrest. She could see her knuckles turning white from gripping the arm rest.
"Is she okay?" Mila asked.
Lynn nodded, "Yeah, once we're in the air, she'll be fine. When we level out and reach altitude, she'll be right as rain. But right here is my favorite part. Taking off. Check it out." She told Mila and they both looked out the window. They felt the plane pick up speed and Mila took Lynn's hand in hers.
Lynn smiled seeing the look of awe on Mila's face. The plane sped up and started to take to the air. Mila let out a little laugh feeling the butterflies in her stomach. She leaned back feeling the plane incline as it took off. Still looking out the window she could see the runway become smaller and smaller as the plane began to climb in the air.
She could see the sun slowly starting to rise as the plane started to level out. The soft clouds were coming into view and she had her eyes pretty much glued to the window.
Lynn just took in Mila's reaction and couldn't help but feel so much love for the girl. When Andy and Mila were up on the stage she couldn't help but feel that she would be a part of her life somehow. She had this image of her playing with two toddlers. She couldn't shake that vision for a while. That's why she had to look her up when Mila mentioned she was in foster care.
She didn't think Andy was going to be up late that night. She was going to tell her in the morning. Lynn also thought Andy would be upset with her. She was surprised when Andy was on board with everything.
She felt Andy let go of her hand. She turned to look at her and smiled, "Feel better?" She asked giving her a kiss on the cheek.
Andy nodded, "Yeah, much better. How's Mila?" She asked looking over at Mila and smiling seeing the look on her face.
"I think she's already having the time of her life." Lynn said resting her head on Andy's shoulder. Andy smiled and kissed her forehead.
"Trip just started and she's ready to take on the world. Well this is the short part of the trip. We change flights in Chicago. From there we have about a seven hour layover in Seattle. My cousins want to meet for dinner. Then, off we go to Yokosuka for about three hours, then we fly into Okinawa. Still not sure about the time change though, but if I remember right it's a fourteen hour difference. So we're in for a LONG ride." Andy explained.
"Once we land I think Auntie Ava and Uncle Jacob are going to be picking us up. She's one of my eight Godmothers. They want to cook for us when we get there. Trust me, it'll save us some money. Okuma is a great resort. Mini golf, batting cages, beach, cabins, snorkeling, and jet skis. I think I spent half a day in those batting cages." Andy said with a chuckle.
Lynn just so happened to look at Mila and raised her eyebrows. Mila looked back at her with a shocked expression. Lynn discreetly put a finger to her lips, but smiled and gave Mila a wink. Both looked back at Andy as she continued to explain how the trip was going to go.
"Not that we need to save money, but it helps to budget. The seawall is amazing at sunset. Can't wait to take you both there. Let's see, Jusco also one of my favorite places. There's two now. The ferris wheel is great. Sure I'll freak out but it's great." Andy continued.
"She's gonna go on for about twenty more minutes." Lynn whispered to Mila.
"Does she do this often? Like how often?" Mila whispered back.
"Pretty much every day. It keeps her grounded. She's been through a lot and when she says things out loud, it helps her think and keep calm." Lynn explained.
"And you don't mind it?"
Lynn shook her head, "I honestly find it adorable. It's one of her perks that I find attractive. I don't know why. I just do. It's how she starts off her day. Or when there's a trip coming up. I never really asked her why. All she says is she needs her structure. Maybe we can find out together one day."
"Second base street is awesome. Lots of shops and places we can visit. Just WAIT until you see the way their McDonald's is. I swear the food is just like the pictures! What else? Hmmm...might be boring to see where all my soccer games were. So we don't have to go to those. We have to get day passes every time we go on base. Shouldn't be too hard. Wonder if we can just get temp passes for the time we're there." Andy continued to pretty much talk to herself at this point.
She put her earbuds in and tapped on her music app. She put her tray down and put her notebook, and book on top of it. Lynn smiled seeing the book and she turned back to Mila seeing she had a questioning look in her eyes.
"What is it?" Lynn asked with a concerned tone.
"It's Andy's book. It's my favorite book. Like ever. At the children's home it was one of the books on the shelf. I picked up and started to read it. I felt connected to the main character. Being an outcast, wanting to find love, but the ending is so sad. He gave his life so the woman he loved could live her life." Mila said softly.
"The copy she has is the one I gave her when we spent our first Christmas together. She loves to read. I'm sure you two will have a lot to talk about. She told me once, that this book saved her time and time again. Andy's been through a lot. She still has a lot of personal stuff, but as long as her family and friends support her, she'll be just fine." Lynn told her gently squeezing her hand.
The flight attendants started walking down the aisles' asking if any of the passengers would like something to drink and a light snack. When one of the reached their row Mila asked for a soda, Lynn asked for a tea, and Andy asked for some water. The young man smiled and gave them their drinks. He gave them their light snacks and the three of them told him thank you.
"I haven't seen you drink any soda Andy. In the short amount of time I've spent with you guys, it's something I've noticed. Why don't you?" Mila asked.
Andy smiled and took out one of her earbuds and looked at Mila, "Well I guess it was when I went back to work after ACL recovery. I was getting back to full duty and I wasn't sleeping well. So I would drink energy drinks back to back, then have soda to keep me awake. I worked long hours, and it would take me a long time to fall asleep." She said and took a sip of her water.
She continued, "My last energy drink was actually my trip back from seeing PVRIS in Charlotte on my birthday. I just kept feeling groggy and just horrible. I decided to just change it up. So now, the only caffeine intake I have is coffee. Sure I have a few cups throughout the day, but it's much better than feeling horrible."
"How did you overcome the insomnia you were having?"
Andy shrugged, "I found this meditation about lucid dreaming. I've always wanted to try it. So I put it on and I was asleep. After that, I found more and would just find one and play it. Within about five minutes of deep breathing I'm asleep. I would wake up refreshed and recharged."
"It's true. One night she asked if she could play a meditation instead of the TV being on. It was so relaxing and I never felt so peaceful. Don't get me wrong there are some nights we have the TV on as background noise if we're really tired. But the meditations helped. Especially on tour." Lynn told her.
"Is touring hard?"
Andy and Lynn looked at each other for a moment and Andy gave Lynn a wink. Lynn gently touched her cheek and smiled. Then she turned back to Mila and sighed.
"At first it's so exciting. You get to go to places you never thought you would go to. Meet amazing people. Not only fans but the crews that put the stages together. You make new friends and keep in touch throughout the years. But the downside is being homesick. In and out of hotels, planes, trains, buses, cars. Your immune system kind of gets shot because sometimes the climate changes. You're tired because you've traveled for so long, and running on little sleep. You do a show and it ends late. Then, you're right back on the bus trying to come down from that adrenalin rush.
Which takes a while. Then, you're right back at it the next day. So, it has it ups and downs. But at the end of the day you're surrounded by the people you created something with and they will always have your back and you have theirs." Lynn finished telling her with a sip of her tea.
"Will I be able to go on tour with you?" Mila asked sheepishly.
"We were talking about that the other night." Andy started to say and she looked at Lynn who nodded.
"So if it's a summer tour, of course you can go. But if it's a fall or winter tour, you can still go, but we will have a tutor for you. We want you to be in school somehow. Also you can't go to a show unless you finish your schoolwork. Does that sound fair?" Andy asked.
Mila nodded, "It makes sense. You want to make sure I stay in school. I'm still a freshman in high school. But wait what about my new school? Will I be held back?."
Andy chuckled, "We got you covered. We actually enrolled you already. We also told them that you're going on vacation and won't be able to come back until after Thanksgiving break. That being said we were able to get all your study guides, assignments, and any test or quizzes you'll take when you get back. Figured during the flight to Okinawa you could do some school work, and on the way back as well."
"You seriously think of everything don't you?" Mila asked with a chuckle and Andy nodded.
"Oh my God she does! Like everything! Even if it's last minute she'll think of something. She's pretty good at camping too. Trust me. When we have our New Years Eve camp out her and Ethan just figure things out. It's like second nature to them." Lynn chimed in.
Andy shrugged, "Well, you can thank my mom for that. She always told me to be prepared for anything. Plus dad was in the military so he taught me certain skills to survive, if I ever needed to. If you ever want to learn how to survive in the woods, or camp, I can teach you."
"What else can you two teach me?!" Mila said getting all excited.
Lynn and Andy chuckled. Andy gestured for Lynn to talk first. She put in her earbuds and continued to focus on her book and notes. Lynn kissed her cheek and turned to Mila. The seatbelt sign went off. Lynn and Mila took off their seatbelts and faced each other.
"So Andy's more about planning, budgeting, staying on track, learning new things, teaching things, surprises, work, and other things. I'm about being carefree, letting the day take me away. I'm always creating something. Music, painting, sketching, and relaxing. What I can teach you, is that no matter how hectic life gets, there's always time to relax and just take in the moment." Lynn looked over her shoulder at Andy and smiled.
Andy was concentrating on her book and taking notes. She never asked why she had the same book every time. Or the notes she would be taking. She thought about it, and maybe she might ask on their way to Okinawa.
"Andy loves to work. She's a workaholic and it's really rare seeing her relax. She's constantly doing something. But she's also constantly learning. I'm sure on this trip though, she'll have time to relax. But back to you! What do you want to learn?" Lynn smiled looking at her.
The two continued to talk throughout the plane ride. It wasn't long until the captain announced they were about to make their descent into O'Hare. Andy turned took out her earbuds and started to put away her book and notebook. She put the pen behind her ear and continued to put away her things.
"She didn't take off her seatbelt once. Is she going to do that when we're on our way to Japan?" Mila whispered to Lynn as she put on her seat belt.
Lynn shook her head, "No, she's gonna have to get up a few times. Stretch her knee out." Lynn told her. The flight attendants started going around collecting their trash. The same young man came up to them and smiled. Andy collected their trash and put in the trash bag and he did a double take at Lynn. His eyes went wide but kept his composure. He gave them a nod with a smile and started to slowly walk away.
Andy smiled looking after him, "Think he recognized you babe." She said turning back to Lynn.
She just chuckled and took Andy's hand in hers lacing their fingers together, "I've been to Chicago, but not this airport."
"It's one of my favorites. Better than JFK if I'm being honest. All last year I had to fly to or out of O'Hare. I actually ran into some family friends. They were on their way back to the Philippines. I actually grew up with their sons." Andy smiled and started to chew on her pen.
"Babe, you're getting nervous." Lynn said. Andy looked at her with a confused look and Lynn pointed at the pen. She quickly took the pen out of her mouth and cleared her throat.
"How is it you know her so well after only a couple of years?" Mila asked.
Lynn turned to her and smiled, "She's an open book with me. According to Ethan she's never really opened up in her past relationships. But with me it was different."
"Why is that?"
She was about to answer Mila when the plane started to descend. Lynn pointed at the window and Mila excitedly looked out. She then turned to Andy and smiled. She could feel Andy's grip get a little tighter and she gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
The plane touched down and Andy let out a sigh of relief. Lynn kissed her cheek and let go of her hand. She put her arm around Mila and they both watched out the window. Andy looked over at them and smiled. She wished she could take a picture of this moment. Seeing the two of them together made her heart full.
The plane came to a stop and passengers started to get up. Andy and Lynn stayed seated as Mila started to get up. She looked at the both of them with a weird look. Andy caught her attention and smiled.
"I normally wait until there's a few people. Everyone's always in a rush to get out. Plus, we have our carry ons. It's gonna take me a few to get them down." Andy explained and Mila looked at Lynn.
"Okay, and I thought I was weird." Mila said softly and Lynn chuckled.
"It won't take long. See look she's standing up, but she's gonna wait. Oh watch, she's gonna say something about being separated."
Andy turned a bit, "If we get separated, meet by the gate?" She asked and Lynn nodded.
"So she might go first or let us go first. To keep traffic moving." Lynn explained to Mila.
Andy saw an opening and got out of their row. She opened the overhead compartment and started to take out their carry ons. She handed Lynn two small suitcases, then she was able to grab her duffel bag. She slung it over her shoulder and let Lynn and Mila go first.
"I'll meet you be the gate." Andy told Lynn and she nodded. She gave Mila a smile as she let her out and then she moved back into the row to let people pass through.
As Lynn and Mila were walking amongst the passengers through the tunnel Mila couldn't help but think about some of the things Andy does. She didn't think she had all these quirks that Lynn seemed to love. She looked behind her and could see Andy through the crowd. She was on her phone talking to someone. She was on the phone before they got on the plane in Boston.
Lynn told her she was mostly calling her parents letting them know about the flights and everything. They just wanted to make sure they were going to be safe. She went onto explain that Andy does the same with her friends. If she drops them off at their place she makes sure they get inside their house before she leaves. Then she lets them know that she gets home safe.
They made it out and waited for Andy. It didn't take long. She smiled meeting them at the gate. She was on her cell phone and she just nodded her head in the direction they were supposed to go in.
"Yes, mom we have our passports. Of course Mila has hers. If she wasn't able to get it, we would have waited to go. But she has it."
Lynn chuckled shaking her head, "She kind of has an overbearing mom. She worries."
"I wish I knew what that was like." Mila said mostly to herself but Lynn heard her. She put her arm around Mila and pulled her close.
"I think Andy may be like that to you. So don't get too mad if she gets like that with you."
Mila nodded, "I get it. She just wants us safe and okay."
"Exactly. She's a protector. Trust me. I've seen what she can do if someone threatens her or someone she cares about."
"Oh! I know! I saw that bar fight she got into! She picked that guy up like he was nothing!"
Lynn laughed as they reached their next gate. Andy found them some seats and she put down her duffel bag. Lynn and Mila set their suitcases next to her bag and she started to walk over to the departure screen.
Lynn and Mila took their seats and got comfortable, "You okay? Need anything?"
Mila shook her head, "I'm okay thank you. Those pretzels should tie me over until Seattle. Are we gonna get another snack and drink on this plane?"
Lynn nodded, "I'm sure. I've been on plenty of planes. We'll get meals on the way to Okinawa. Just hope things go smoothly this time around."
"What do you mean?"
Lynn sighed and looked at Mila, "Sometimes Andy has bad luck when it comes to flying. Sometimes she has good luck. It's like if she has bad luck, her next trip she'll have some sort of good luck. It's so hard to explain. I don't understand it, but it happens."
"Love you too mom. Okay, bye. Bye mama. Yeah, okay, bye. Mom. I gotta go. I'll call you when we get to Seattle. Love you too mom." Andy was able to finally hang up her phone and she shook her head.
"I can never get her off the phone sometimes. Jeez." She said sitting down. Next to Lynn and started to go through her bag. She just wanted to double check everything. After she checked her back she sat back in her seat and let out a sigh.
Lynn smiled turning to her and was about to say something when she heard her name being called. She looked up only to see Erika walking up to them. Andy and Lynn stood up giving the woman a hug.
"Wow! Didn't think I would run into you guys! What are you doing here?" Erika asked.
"We're heading to Okinawa. Where are you going?" Andy asked.
"I'm heading back to New York. After your wedding I had to dip out and go to L.A. Trying to get this band under control. The lead guitarist left, and they just got rid of their bass player. They're about to go on tour and I had to do some damage control. They JUST released their EP and still causing problems. The label doesn't know what to do with them." She told them shaking her head.
"You remember Mila right?" Lynn asked and Mila stood up shyly.
"Of course I do! We weren't properly introduced yet. Hi Mila I'm Erika. I part of the team that represents PVRIS. You'll be seeing a lot of me in the next few months." Erika said with a smile, holding out her hand for Mila to shake.
The young lady shook the older woman's hand and gave her a shy smile. Erika bent down a little after they shook hands, "I have a mission for you." She said and gestured for her to come closer.
"Your mission is to make sure Andy doesn't stress out. Make sure she gets to relax during this trip of yours. Can you do that for me?" She asked and Mila smiled a genuine smile with a nod. Erika gave her a wink and stood straight up and looked back at Lynn and Andy.
"I never got to ask you. Did you ever call that guy?" Lynn asked and Erika started to turn red.
"Wait, what guy?" Andy asked.
"We'll talk once you get back." Erika said looking at Lynn. "I gotta get going. But I'll see you guys over the Holidays. Have a fun trip!" She told them giving each of them a hug. Then, she was off.
Andy looked at Lynn with a confused look, "Erika's seeing someone?" She asked as they all sat down.
Lynn shrugged, "From the looks of it she must be. I haven't seen her blush before. It was kind of weird. Anyway, what time do we start boarding?"
Andy looked at her phone and noticed the time change. She looked at her boarding pass and back at her phone. "About an hour. So we have some time to kill. Do you both want to stay put or walk around a bit?" She asked.
"I think I'll stay put. Your cousins are meeting us in Seattle right?" Lynn asked and Andy nodded.
"I'll wait til then. Mila what about you?"
"I wouldn't mind walking around a bit." She said.
Andy smiled and stood up, "Come on, I'll take you to this awesome bookstore. Little overpriced but they have some pretty cool books."
Mila smiled standing up. She watched as Andy leaned in towards Lynn and gave her a small kiss. They exchanged 'I love yous.' The way they smiled at each other gave Mila a whole new understanding of love. Andy stood straight up and looked at Mila, "Ready?"
Mila nodded and the two started to walk away from Lynn. She smiled seeing Andy put her arm around Mila. She let out a soft sigh and shook her head wondering what she did to get so lucky. She moved their carry ons closer to each other to keep a close eye on them. She sat back and opened her notebook and started to sketch away. The image of Andy and Mila still fresh in her mind she wanted to capture it without her camera.
The bustle of the airport as her background noise she was lost in her own little world. She thought back to the last year when Andy was gone and hard it was on her. Keeping their marriage a secret from her close friends was really hard on her. She wanted to tell the world, but ever since Ireland they wanted to keep it a secret. They always say that the first year of marriage was the hardest. For them it was.
Being away from each other for so long barely keeping in contact. Also keeping the pregnancy a secret was a big one. She would send Andy information from the clinic and she would send her feedback. Andy was so upset that she went to the appointments alone. But Lynn always reassured her she would be with her when she came back.
Sure enough Andy was by her side. Even before they announced their marriage, and the pregnancy. They had to be careful about it until everything came into light. Now that everything was out in the open, the media was having somewhat of a field day with her and Andy.
Luckily they had another exclusive with Robin and Maria after the reception to keep the record straight. Of course the one tabloid had to do their own little spin and the comments on social media weren't exactly nice. However, they weren't going to that stop them from living their lives.
"Oh my God you're Lynn Gunn!" Lynn heard and she looked up and smiled at three teenage girls.
"Hi! How are you?" She asked.
"We're huge fans! Can we get a picture with you?!" The redhead asked and Lynn smiled. She closed her notebook and stood up. The girls gathered around her and she put her arms around the two that were on either side of her.
The redhead outstretched her arm and took the picture with her phone. After a couple of them the three of them started to thank her. She just waved them off and thanked them. The three took off in a hurry and she sighed.
"More fans huh?" Andy asked coming up to her with a smile.
"Yeah, looked to be about Mila's age." She told them giving Andy a kiss on her cheek.
"So Mila got you something." Andy said with a smile looking at Mila.
"Oh, yeah what is it?" She asked with a surprised look at the younger girl. Mila gave her the small paper bag with a nervous smile. Lynn took it and took out a set of sketching pencils.
"Wow! I've been wanting a new set for a long time! Thank you!" She gave Mila a tight hug and kissed the top of her head. Then she turned to Andy and gave her a soft kiss on her lips.
"It was Mila's idea. I mentioned how long the flight was, and how beautiful Okinawa is. She wanted you to have a new set to sketch with." Andy said proudly.
Lynn smiled at Mila, "It's perfect thank you." She said giving her a hug again. They heard the announcement for their flight about to board. They started to collect their things. Andy mentioned for them to double check to make sure they didn't leave anything behind. When they were finished she heard her name being called to go up to the desk.
All three looked at each other confused and Andy just shrugged. She went up to the desk while Mila and Lynn watched.
"Oh I hope it's good news." Lynn whispered. Andy came back over to them with a bewildered look on her face.
"What's going on?" Lynn asked.
Andy cleared her throat and shook her head, "Um well, according to the airline, our seats were upgraded on this flight and the one to Okinawa."
"What do you mean upgraded?"
"Uh, well looks like we're going to be flying first class." Andy said still a little stunned.
"How is that possible?" Lynn asked snatching the boarding passes from Andy.
Andy just shrugged, "No idea. Something about my flier miles. I guess they were enough for the upgrades. I didn't use them all that time I was flying all over the country or out of the country. I don't even keep track of them to be honest."
Lynn was looking over the boarding passes still trying to believe what was going on. Andy bent down to adjust her brace a little bit and Mila was watching both of them. It didn't take long for the announcement to start boarding first class. Andy and Lynn looked at each other and just shrugged. They collected their things and fell in line. Andy made sure Mila was in front of them so she could keep an eye on her.
It's what her parents used to do. Have her and her sister in front of them any time they would go somewhere. It didn't make sense to her for a while, until she started taking care of her little cousins. Having them in front of her, was able to keep a close eye on them.
The line started to move slowly. Andy took Lynn's hand in hers and kissed the back of it. She loved the fact that Lynn knew so much about her. She was comfortable with her. Which surprised her to say the least. She's still trying to figure out how she got so lucky. Not only having Lynn in her life, but now Mila. Everything just seemed too good to be true at this point, and she knew something bad would happen. But as of right now she's going to enjoy these moments.
They walked down the tunnel and once they reached the plane the nice young blonde flight attendant showed them to their seats. Normally they would turn right but instead they turned left and it was a new thing. Andy only ever flew first class once and that was on her way to Australia.
"Oh wow! There's more space!" Mila said in an excited tone. Andy chuckled as they found their seats. She took Mila and Lynn's carry ons and put them in the overhead compartment. Then she put her duffel bag next to theirs. She closed the compartment and took her seat. She smiled seeing the look on Lynn and Mila's faces.
The two were looking over everything and were in awe. Andy sat back and put on her seat belt. She did the same thing in the flight before this one. Making sure everything she needed was ready. Only this time she had a different book. She wanted to switch it up a bit this time around. Plus she hasn't read this particular book in a long time. She felt her phone vibrate and she looked down at it.
With a confused look she answered her phone, "Hey Sherry, we just got on the plane."
"Oh good! Did you like our gift?"
"Gift? What gift?"
"Well, my sisters and I realized we never really got you and Lynn a wedding gift. So we all chipped in and upgraded your flights." Andy could hear the smile in her cousin's voice.
"That was you?!"
Lynn and Mila turned to look at Andy and she held up her finger to let them know she would tell them in a moment.
"Yeah! Took some doing, but I'm glad we were able to get to you in time."
"Thank you so much! They told me it was because of my flier miles from last year."
Sherry chuckled, "We told them to tell you that. But just wanted to call and tell you about the upgrade. We'll see you three in a few hours. We'll be waiting for ya. Love you cuz!"
"Thank you and love you too. See you in a bit." Andy smiled and hung up her phone. She chuckled and put her phone on airplane mode. She looked at Lynn and Mila and shook her head.
"So this upgrade is a wedding gift from Sherry, Krista, and Rose." She told them.
"Seriously? Did they say why?" Lynn asked.
Andy shrugged, "Sherry said it was because they didn't get us a wedding gift. So this is their wedding gift to us. This upgrade to Seattle and the one to Okinawa."
"We need to get them something." Lynn said trying to rack her brain of what to get Andy's cousins.
"I'm way ahead of you. Figured I can buy them dinner tonight. They might say no, but I'll insist."
"What's Seattle like?" Mila asked looking at them.
Andy smiled, "It's nice. Kinda rainy, but nice. I'm actually about to open up a gallery there, and also in Roswell."
"I read about that! Are you going to check it out while we got time?"
Andy shrugged, "Maybe depends on how far it is from the airport. I've only seen the pictures Serenity sent me. Haven't really had a chance to look at it up close."
"Maybe on the way back we can check it out. Maybe stay a few days extra in Seattle? Change our flight?" Lynn asked hopefully looking at Andy.
Andy shook her head and smiled, "I'll think about it."
"Please, please, please, please, please," Mila and Lynn said together.
Andy laughed, "Okay, okay, once we get to the airport I'll see if we can get our flights changed on our way back. Here's the thing, we're going to be cutting it close for Thanksgiving. That's the only thing I'm worried about. Plus a lot of people are going to travel around that time..."
"Here she goes again." Lynn said with a chuckle and Mila shook her head. They all heard loud laughter and they turned in their seats. They saw four women laughing and making their way down the aisle. Andy quickly turned around and Lynn looked at her with a confused look. She was about to ask but one of the women took off their sunglasses and looked at Andy.
"As I live and breathe! Girls! It's Andrea!" The blonde said. Andy forced a smile unbuckling her seatbelt and stood up. She gave each of them a hug and smile.
"You know, we asked when were you going to another shoot with us your agent said you were taking some time off." The other blonde said in a sad voice.
Andy nodded, "Yeah, wanted to spend time with my wife and family. Speaking of, ladies this is my wife Lynn and this is Mila." She said with a smile. They all shook hands and exchanged pleasantries. But Andy could tell the four were forcing it.
"When did you get married?" The brunette asked.
"Last year, and not to long ago, we did the ceremony. We live streamed it. We're just getting away for a while as a family." Andy said winking at Lynn and Mila.
The redhead scoffed and shook her head, "Well, have a fun trip. We'll see you soon. Come on girls let's go." She took the blonde's hand and started to walk away. But each of them gave Andy a kiss on her cheek. Andy just nodded and smiled. Soon as they were out of eyesight she sat back down and put on her seat belt. She started to rub her cheeks.
"Every time! I hated doing shoots with them!"
"Okay what was that all about?" Lynn asked crossing her arms looking at her wife.
Andy sighed and looked at Lynn, "While I was away, I had a little time in L.A. I was doing a few photo shoots here and there. Well I was booked to do a magazine and they were the models. What I didn't know was that it was a lingerie spread. So I'm at the location setting up, and they walk in. I was setting up the back drop with my back turned-"
"What were you wearing?" Lynn asked.
"Why does it matter what she was wearing?" Mila asked.
"I'll explain in a second. So honey, what were you wearing?!"
Andy cleared her throat, "Uh, well, I was wearing my black basketball shorts, blue and black sneakers, and um my blue tank top."
"Really Andrea?!" Lynn said punching her in the arm.
"What?! I'm sorry! It was a last minute gig and I took it! I didn't know it was lingerie shoot until they came out of the dressing room! I had my ring on!"
"Yeah?! Well sometimes that doesn't mean back off!"
"Whoa! Whoa! Where is this coming from?! Do you think I had ANY interest in girls like that?! You should know that I had Shey with my the entire time until I had to go back on the road! Even when they were hitting on me and I kept brushing them off she would back me up! When Shey had to leave Serenity was there!"
"Oh! You had to have a friend there cause you don't trust yourself alone with them?!"
"I had friend there so I wouldn't lose my temper! I couldn't stand their giggles, or how they kept talking about their looks. Or how they wanted to do a line! Or the fact they would get drunk and throw themselves at me! If I lost my temper we would have another headline on our hands! Plus, I told Serenity I didn't want to work with them anymore!"
Mila looked between the two wondering what was going on. She knew she should be worried, but for some reason she was in awe about what was happening. She wished she had some popcorn. It was like she was watching a movie and it's at the part where the couple fights.
"What about the other models you had photo shoots with?! Did they throw themselves at you too?!"
"Oh my God Lynn! If you think I cheated I didn't! I told you once I'm with someone I'm with someone! My eyes don't wonder at all! I NEVER once thought you cheated on me! I trust you! I love you! If you want proof just ask Shey or Serenity, they actually took video and pictures. Because their agency didn't believe me! Once we land in Seattle call them and have them send you everything!" Andy shook her head and sat back in her seat.
Lynn sighed and rubbed her forehead, "Look, I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me. I just didn't think. I saw them and saw the way they were with you, I guess I just had a jealous moment."
Andy smiled and took Lynn's hand in hers. She turned towards her and kissed the back of Lynn's hand, "It's okay. I'm sorry for keeping it from you. I have no idea why I did to be honest. In the midst of everything going on I guess it wasn't important to tell you."
"Next time you have a model shoot, tell me?" Lynn asked softly.
"Of course! If you want, you can even come to one. I would actually prefer if you were there. You have no idea how bad I wanted to call you and just fly you out to L.A. But I knew Angel needed you." Andy gently touched Lynn's cheek.
"I love you." Lynn whispered leaning in.
"And I love you." Andy smiled meeting her lips in a gentle kiss.
The pulled away and Mila couldn't help but smile. One minute they were fighting the next they were apologizing to each other. Of course she's too young to be in a relationship and too young to understand love in such a way that Andy and Lynn love each other. She hoped one day she would feel that type of love with someone.
Once again they the heard the announcement about to take off. Mila asked Andy for a piece of gum and she gladly gave her one. Andy gave one to Lynn and she took one herself. Andy sat back in her seat and closed her eyes. She let out a breath and was ready for take off. She felt Lynn take her hand and she relaxed a little bit.
The safety briefing was happening again and the plane started to move. Mila was looking out of the window again. This time she wouldn't take her eyes off of the scenery. Lynn smiled turning to look at Mila. She couldn't wait to get some sketches done. She just had to memorize a few things and she would be off sketching.
She turned back to Andy and noticed she was going pale. She leaned forward a bit and put her hand on her forehead. "Sweetie you're burning up. Did you take all your medicine today?"
"I'm pretty sure I did."
"What about your motion sickness medicine?"
"Think I might have skipped that one. It's in my bag in the overhead compartment. It's okay, it's happened before. I just need to close my eyes and breathe." Andy said a little weakly.
"Once the seat belt light goes off I'll get it for you. Can you hold off until then?" Lynn asked with worry.
"Yeah. Like I said, I just need to close my eyes and breathe." Andy reassured her with a smile. She leaned back into her seat and closed her eyes.
"Is she okay?" Mila asked looking at Andy.
"She's burning up. Think she forgot to take one of her medicines. Once we're able to walk around I'm grabbing her medicine." Lynn told her with a small smile.
Andy took a few deep breaths. The plane was finally in the air and she just needed to wait a little bit longer. She just needed to calm down a little bit and she'll be okay. Lynn would get her medicine and she'll be just fine.
Lynn kept a close eye on the seat belt sign. It felt like a lifetime for her. After about ten minutes the seat belt sign went off. Lynn quickly took off her seat belt and stood up. She moved around Andy and stood in the aisle. She opened the overhead compartment and started to rummage through the side pockets. After a few tries she finally found what she was looking for. She grabbed the small packet and zipped up the side pocket.
After closing the compartment she moved around Andy again and sat down. She opened the packet and poked out two small little white pills. She closed the packet up and turned towards Andy. She put her hand on her cheek and watched as Andy slowly opened her eyes.
"Hey, I know you don't have anything to wash this down with, but can you still take them?"
Andy nodded, "Yeah, I'll be fine. Thank you." She gave Lynn a gentle smile and took the small pills from Lynn. She popped them in her mouth and swallowed. She let out a sigh and leaned back.
"Wake me up when we land. I'm just gonna rest my eyes for a bit." Andy whispered. Lynn nodded and kissed her cheek. She watched as Andy leaned back and closed her eyes. She reached over and hit the button to have Andy's seat lean back a little. She gently ran her fingers through Andy's hair and smiled. She gave her one more kiss on her cheek and settled into her seat.
"What did she take?" Mila asked.
Lynn sighed putting the small packet in her pocket before she turned to look at Mila. "Just some motion sickness medicine. I'm actually not sure if it's going to help. She said she's going to rest and to wake her up when we land in Seattle."
"Is she going to be okay?"
Lynn gave her a reassuring smile, "She just needs to sleep for a bit. I think it might be her body telling her she needs to slow down. She's been non stop for a while. Hopefully she can get some rest during the flight."
"She always seems like she's on the go." Mila said putting down her tray and she put her sketchbook on it. She looked over at Andy and started to sketch away. Lynn smiled and couldn't help but follow what Mila was doing it. Within moments the two were sketching in their notebooks.
It was another smooth flight for them, and Lynn wanted to wait to wake Andy up until the plane reached the gate. She gently touched Andy's forehead and cheeks as the plane started to make its way towards their gate. Lynn noticed Andy was still a little warm but not as hot as she was earlier.
"Well she's still a little warm. Hopefully she'll get some rest on the plane to Japan." Lynn said with a sigh. She and Mila started to put away their notebooks and waited until the plane came to a stop. After a few moments the captain came over the intercom announcing they have arrived and to have safe travels. Lynn gently woke Andy up and she gave her a smile.
"How are you feeling?" Lynn asked softly touching her cheek.
Andy cleared her throat and rubbed her eyes, "A little groggy." She let out a sigh and shook her head, "How are you?"
Lynn chuckled and shook her head. The four models walked by them saying bye to Andy. She said bye, but she didn't look at them. She didn't see the redhead roll her eyes when she saw Lynn gently run her fingers through Andy's silver hair. She also didn't like the fact that Andy ignored her when she and her friends said bye.
When they made it off the plane Lynn and Andy smiled seeing Andy's cousins waiting for them in the main area. They hugged each other and reintroduced Mila.
"So what do you guys have in mind for dinner?" Andy asked.
"Well, we actually have another surprise for you guys. It's about a ten minute drive from here. We have everything taken care of." Rose said as they started to walk towards the exit.
"Thank you guys so much for the upgrades! I still can't believe it!" Lynn told them when the reached Sherry's SUV in the parking lot.
"It's no problem. Least we could do. Plus with Andy helping us with our brothers in Virginia, it was our way of saying thank you." Krista said helping them with their carry ons and putting them in the back.
They all piled into the SUV and got settled. They insisted Andy sit up front. After she protested for a few moments it was Krista that pushed Andy towards the front seat. Once everyone had their seatbelts on Sherry started the car and they were off.
The chatter was light. Mostly about the trip, work life, family, catching up on things they all haven't been able to catch up on. They reminisced about the wedding, and the party in Georgia. Lynn and Mila were sitting in the seats between the front and the back just listening to Andy and her cousins exchange banter. Lynn had Mila's hand in hers and she looked at her with a smile. Mila returned the smile and nodded.
"Okay, we're here." Sherry said turning down a street and coming up to a building. Andy looked around confused.
"Uh, cuz, where are we?"
Sherry shook her head and laughed. She pulled into a parking spot. After turning the SUV off everyone took off their seat belts and got out. Andy looked at the two story, brick building. After looking at it for another moment her eyes widened.
"Wait, is this what I think it is?!" She asked and her cousins smiled and nodded.
"While Serenity and Erika were looking for places for your gallery, they contacted us to help out." Sherry started.
"Since we live here, it was perfect for us to help pick a building you would like." Rose told her with a smile.
"So after about a week we found this building Of course she sent you pictures of the other buildings before you decided on this one." Krista said.
"With that being said, we were able to get a private chef and she set up a wonderful dinner for the six of us. Now, come on I'm sure you three are starving and would enjoy some amazing food." Sherry smiled taking Mila and Lynn's hand leading them inside.
Rose and Krista both hooked their arms around Andy's and followed them in. Sherry opened the doors and they were greeted with a table set for six. With a full on plate setting at each seat. They were greeted by a young man in a three piece suit and he lead them to the table.
Andy was seated at the head of it while the others were seated on either side. Andy looked at Lynn, "Hey doesn't he look a little familiar?"
Lynn looked at the young man when he came back around and started to tell them what was on the menu for them. Lynn grabbed Andy's arm and leaned in, "Oh my God! Andrea! It's our waiter from our first date! What was his name?!"
Andy tried to remember. She was racking her brain trying to remember his name. She looked at the flickering candle on the table and all of sudden it dawned on her. "Travis!" She said a little too loudly.
"I'm sorry?" He asked confused looking at Andy.
Andy held up her hand, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you. But did you use to work in a little restaurant in Martha's Vineyard?"
He nodded, "Yeah, a couple of years ago. The chef and I actually started our own little thing about six months ago. Why do-wait! I remember you two!" He said with a smile.
Lynn looked around the table and she chuckled at the confused looks on their faces. She started to explain, "Andy and I had our first date after Christmas day. We went to Martha's Vineyard and went to have dinner at this small restaurant. Travis was our server and he was amazing! The food was amazing as well. I can still taste that balsamic chicken and the broccoli. It was so delicious! I went back a while ago but it was closed and I was really disappointed."
"There is a reason for that." Travis started to say, "Turned out our boss was pretty much stealing money from the company so of course he got caught. But like I said, the chef and I kind of started our own thing and it's been taking off."
"You know I do need someone to cater for my gallery openings. Do you guys have a card?" Andy asked and Travis's eyes lit up. He fumbled around in his pocket and found a business card. He gave to Andy and she smiled.
"Well, these two know what dinner has in store for all of you. Now, there was a request for no wine at dinner, but we do have different grape juices, and sparkling cider for dinner tonight. I will return with the list." Travis smiled and walked away.
"We decided that we didn't want you to feel left out. So we just kept wine out of dinner. Grape juice kind of looks like red wine anyway." Sherry said with a wink at Lynn.
"Thank you. You three are so thoughtful! Thank you so much." Lynn said and the three reached over and they gave her hand a gentle squeeze. Travis came back with a small booklet and gave it to Andy. She smiled and passed it to Lynn. The booklet made its way around the table until it reached Andy again. She just smiled and gave it back to Travis. They all told him which juice or sparkling cider they wanted and then he turned to Andy. She asked for a coffee and water. He chuckled and gave her a nod, then left again.
"Um, if you ladies don't mind, I'd like to take a look around." Andy said and they all nodded. She smiled and stood up. They watched her walk away from the table.
"So Mila, how are you? I'm sure this is a lot to take in since the wedding." Sherry asked.
Mila nodded, "It is, but it's all so worth it. I feel like I'm in a dream, and I don't wanna wake up if I am. I mean I'm about to be part of a famous family! Lynn being the lead singer of my favorite band! Andy a famous photographer! What more can I ask for?!"
They all chuckled just as Travis came back with their drinks. After handing them out he asked about Andy. Krista explained she went to take a look around. He nodded and told them the appetizers would be up shortly. He left them again and they all thanked him.
Meanwhile on the second floor Andy was walking around. She smiled taking it all in. Sure the building was a little run down, but that's what drew her to it in the pictures. She loved fixing up things. She didn't know why. That's one of the reasons she picked this place. She couldn't wait until January. She just had to tell Lynn about it. One conversation she was dreading.
She walked over to the window and leaned against the border. She crossed her arms and looked out at the orange sky. She let out a sigh and just took in the moment. With everything going on, she just needed to stop and take in this moment. Lynn was right about just living in the moment and just taking it in. She was so lost in her thoughts she didn't hear the footsteps approach her.
She jumped a little when she felt someone touch her shoulder. She turned and saw Lynn standing there with a smile, "Hey you're missing out on some great food." Andy put her arm around her and pulled her close.
"I'm sure it's amazing. I just wanted to take all this in. Needed a moment to just decompress from everything the last few months. Taking in the moment."
Lynn kissed her cheek and pulled her close. She understood Andy needed some time away from things every now and then. That's why she never really bothered her when it came to her just walking away from certain things. They stood like that for a few more moments until Andy suggested to join everyone. The two walked together with their arms around each other in a comfortable silence.
When they came down the stairs Travis was just setting down the main course for the evening. Andy could smell the aroma of the food and she didn't realize just how hungry she was. They both sat down and Andy looked at her cousins. She knew they wanted to say a little prayer before they would start to eat. She held out her hands and smiled. Rose took her hand and Lynn took the other. Mila looked confused for a moment before taking Lynn and then Krista's hand.
"Oh, I'm sorry we say a little prayer before we eat. It's kind of a thing with us and every time we get together with Andy she honors it." Rose explained.
"Andy would you like to do the honors?" Sherry asked and Andy nodded.
"Let's bow our heads," Andy started and they all bowed their heads. After a moment Andy began to speak.
"Heavenly Father, we thank you for this meal in front of us. Thank you for all the blessings we have throughout the years. We ask that you watch over those less fortunate than us. We also ask that you watch over those that can't be with their families. We ask you to bless this food we are about to receive and may it nourish our bodies. Thank you Lord for all that you do and continue to do. Thank you for watching over us and keeping us safe. In your name we thank you. Amen."
"Amen." They all echoed. The silverware clattered and everyone started to eat. No one said a word. They were all giving each other looks as if to say how good the food was. Nothing but just the clatter of forks and knives cutting into the chicken, or the vegetable medley, or rosemary seasoned potatoes.
Andy was the first to finish and she wiped her mouth with her napkin and sat back, "Goodness that was amazing! I would LOVE to learn this recipe." She said tossing her napkin on the plate and leaning back in her chair.
One by one everyone finished and Travis came back to clear off the table, "Dessert is almost ready. I'll be back to refill your drinks."
"Would you like any help?" Andy asked standing up but Travis shook his head.
"I got it. No worries." He said with a smile. He expertly stacked the plates and walked away. Andy shook his head with a smile.
Lynn reached over and took her hand, "He reminds me of you." She whispered with a smile. Andy gave her a wink and Lynn tried to hide her blushing cheeks.
"After dessert we have to get you three back to the airport. We know how you get cuz. If we don't leave in about an hour you're gonna get nervous and not tell anyone." Krista said slightly rolling her eyes.
"Hey, no I don't!"
"Oh yes you do! You always time out what you want to get done and if you don't you go into panic mode!" Sherry said and they all laughed.
"I bet you twenty bucks in the next five minutes you're going to check your watch." Sherry said.
"You're on!" Andy smiled taking a sip of her coffee.
It wasn't long until they all found themselves back in Sherry's SUV. Andy did have to shell out twenty dollars for losing the bet. She ended up checking her watch and she was getting a tad bit nervous as time went on.
Before they left Andy asked if they could meet the chef, but Travis said she doesn't really like meeting her clients. She understood and she hoped she would be able to meet her one day. They gave their compliments and they were off.
The ride back to the airport was the same as the ride to dinner. It wasn't long until they reach the airport. They hugged each other and said their byes. Andy thanked them for an amazing dinner and it was time for them to head their separate ways.
Once they were inside the three went checked in and went to their gate. Andy said that since they had dinner at the gallery site, they didn't have to extend their stay when they came back. But she promised they would return soon. The two agreed and smiled. They had a few more hours to kill until they boarded and Andy said she was going to just rest her eyes again.
Lynn looked at her with a concerned look and felt her forehead and cheeks again. Andy was still a little warmer to the touch. She just hoped she would be okay on the plane ride. Lynn knew exactly what to get. She asked Mila to stay with Andy and their carry ons and she nodded. She stood up and started to walk away.
She wondered for a little bit and finally found a small shop that sold what she needed to get for Andy. After purchasing the items she returned to Andy and Mila. She smiled at the sight. Mila had her head on Andy's shoulder and she had her eyes closed too. She came up to them and gently put a hand on Mila's shoulder. She opened her eyes and smiled.
"Hey, you okay?" Lynn asked.
Mila nodded, "Yeah, just a little tired, been a long day."
"I understand. You'll get used to it. We did go through a couple of time changes, and we're about to hit a major one." Lynn said with a smile and took her seat next to Mila.
"What did you get?"
"Andy's home remedy when she's feeling sick. Lemon lime Gatorade, her favorite orange juice, water, crackers to settle her stomach, she's gonna get some hot tea on the plane. BUT, she's gonna want some honey, sugar, and lemon. Since there wasn't any lemon, I found some lemon juice. She won't really eat anything. If I was able to I would have some chicken noodle soup for her. Campbell's to be exact. She seems like a handful, but in all honesty she's really not.
She's full of surprises, and always keeps me guessing on what the day has in store sometimes. She's a romantic, caring, loving, beautiful person. She'll listen to your problems even when she's dealing with her own. She had a great upbringing, but she has also been through a lot. I know she still has skeletons in her closet and when she's ready she'll open up to me."
Mila smiled shaking her head, "Does she ever do anything for herself?"
Lynn shrugged, "I like to think so. She's following her dreams and she's living the way she wants to. Sure it's not glamorous but she loves it."
The two talked some more and even went through their sketches together. They talked about what they would like to do while in Okinawa. Mila mentioned even though she lived in a place where there's beaches for miles she never really saw the ocean. Lynn was a little shocked and told her they would be flying over one. So she'll be able to see the Pacific Ocean from the plane if it wasn't too dark out.
They talked some more and it wasn't long until they heard it was time to start boarding. Lynn gently woke up Andy and she opened her eyes. She let out a groan and shook her head. She rubbed her eyes and stretched her arms out a little bit. They gathered their belongings and got up to stand in line.
Lynn had her arm around Andy's waist and could tell she was a little light on her feet. She was worried and she really looked at Andy. She looked a little pale, "Did you take your stomach medicine before dinner?"
Andy nodded, "Yeah, right before we met them in the main area. I don't know what's going on. It's like I'm a kid again. I was feeling like when we moved to Okinawa. I wasn't feeling good in O'Hare, and we went to LAX, I was still a little groggy. We come to Seattle and I was full blown sick. We have a long flight. I'll just put on a movie and rest up a little bit. I should feel better by breakfast."
When it was their turn they presented their boarding passes and passports. The young woman smiled and told them to have a safe flight. They walked down the tunnel and made their way onto the plane. They found their seats and Andy made sure Mila had the window seat.
Lynn and Mila took their seats. Then, Andy after she placed their carry ons in the overhead. She sat down and put on her seat belt. Her eyes were heavy again. But she kept her eyes open. She took out her earbuds and plugged them into the headphone jack. She placed them in her ears and leaned her head back. It was a long flight and she just needed to rest.
The safety briefing happened and they were off. Andy looked at the small TV screen and started to scroll through the movies. After searching for about five minutes she found one she loved to fall asleep too. She hit play and she hit the button that let her chair lean back.
She gave Lynn's hand a gentle squeeze and she closed her eyes. She just needed to rest and hopefully feel better when she woke up.
Lynn turned to Andy and saw that she was down for the count. She leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek. She turned to Mila and smiled, "Well she's gonna be out for a while. So are you ready for a big adventure?"
"I'm so ready! I still can't thank you enough for what you and Andy have done for me. I'm sure it won't hit until the adoption goes through. But this is a good opportunity for all three of us to get to know each other. I can't wait to hear all the stories you two have!" Mila said smiling.
"I can't wait either kiddo. It's gonna be one hell of a roller coaster." Lynn told her with a big smile. She pulled Mila in for a tight hug and kissed the top of her head.
They both couldn't wait to see what this trip had in store for them. It was a new adventure for both of them. All their worries were put aside to just enjoy the next three weeks. Adventure awaited them and it was only just beginning.
