AN: Things are getting interesting now, aren’t they?
Cassandra woke up the next morning, feeling positively delicious with all the luxuries that were surrounding her. She snuggled deeper into the pillow and pulled the blanket up over her head. There was no way it could be time to wake up. And anyway, didn’t Mom always yell for her?
Hammie crawled up the couch and rubbed his head against hers through the blanket. Cassandra froze. Oh, that was right. She wasn’t home at all, was she? She was in Vegas. And not in her car, either. On Criss’s couch.
“Meow?” Hammie asked, bumping his head against hers a little bit harder.
“I don’t know where he keeps your food, or when he feeds you or anything.” She hissed through the blanket. “I love you, but I really need to keep this job. I can’t do anything that’ll upset him.”
Most likely she was already skating on thin ice. Tap dancing would probably not be in her best interest.
Cassandra peeled back the blankets and sighed. She got off the couch and tiptoed towards the kitchen, intending to get a drink of water. It was morning after all, and she was dying of thirst. Probably slept with her mouth open again.
Of course, Criss was quite a bit taller than she was. So it made sense that he would put his glasses up in one of the top cupboards on the top shelf. Nothing much really seemed to be going her way lately. She sighed and pulled herself up on top of the sink.
Criss wasn’t still in bed as she had thought. He’d gotten up quite early, with the intention of waking her up to go running and then out to breakfast to talk. She needed to get used to a work out routine.
But when he saw her laying against the pillow, her lips parted, looking sweet and innocent, Criss just didn’t have the heart to wake her. Instead, he’d pulled the blanket up higher on her and scratched the cat behind the ears before tiptoeing out to go for a run.
And now he was walking inside, looking for Cassandra. They were going to have a talk today, whether she liked it or not. He thought he deserved to know why his assistant was living in her car, after all. Besides, what were they going to do with the car anyway?
He saw her standing on the sink, reaching up to get down one of the glasses.
“Cassandra?”
“Oh!” evidently he had scared her. When she turned around, her blue eyes wide and frightened, she lost her balance and began to topple off the counter. Criss darted forward and snatched her before she could crash on the kitchen floor.
“Are you okay?” he asked after they had both sat there for a minute, letting their heart rates go back to normal.
“I think so.” There was a pause. “You can put me down now, Criss.”
“Right,” why was he blushing? He gently set her on her feet. She seemed embarrassed too, fusing with the hem of the shirt she was wearing.
“So I thought we’d go out to breakfast.”
“Right. Sure. Sounds great,” she gave him a small smile before letting her eyes fall back down to her hands.
“I’ll just go and get dressed.”
“I’ll take a shower and change.”
“Okay,” she drifted back towards the couch where her clothes from yesterday were folded in a pile. Criss walked towards the bathroom.
How the hell was this going to work?
