Kikyo stirred in her sleep, but there was no noise or movement that woke her up. Uruha's apartment was deadly silent apart from the faint sound of someone breathing. The blanket she lay under was so warm that she didn't want to get up for fear of being cold. She was facing away from Uruha, but just as she turned over to look at him she realised he wasn't there. But his side of the bed was only just going cold, so that meant I wouldn't have been up for long. Kikyo blinked as she glanced around the room in the dark ... there was no sign of him. As she slowly sat up and angled her watch to the balcony doors, the light showed her watch to read half past five - she grimaced at having not slept very long. But then she realised again that Uruha was still missing and she silently stood up, crossing her arms tightly to keep warm.
In looking around again Aoi had almost disappeared under the blanket because only his hair was showing, Ai was bunched up in a tight ball as Kikyo could see by the swell of the blanket. Kai and Megumi were the only two who seemed to be sleeping normally, both on their sides and facing each other - it was Kai that Kikyo could hear breathing as he slept. Kikyo then tiptoed her way to the balcony doors to check if Uruha was outside and caught sight of a thin wisp of smoke somewhere to the right; it was very dark outside. Very carefully Kikyo opened one of the balcony doors and glancing once more to make sure she didn't wake anyone, slipped outside and shut the door again. As soon as she turned around, Uruha was already watching her from the chair in the corner, wrapped in his long black trench coat.
"What are you doing up? It's only five thirty".
Uruha whispered as he uncrossed his legs and stood up.
"I'm sorry, I just woke up suddenly. I normally sleep a lot longer than this, but when I realised you were gone I wondered where you were ..."
Kikyo explained in a hushed voice while rubbing her arms to keep warm - five thirty in the morning during winter wasn't cosy. Uruha drew back on his cigarette while he listened to Kikyo and then blew a stream of smoke out before smiling.
"So ... you were worried about me?"
"N-no, no ... I wasn't really worried, I just wondered what you were doing because it's so early ..."
She couldn't look at him while speaking, but he didn't once stop smiling at her - she sounded like a child trying to explain herself after being in trouble. Uruha stuck the cigarette to the corner of his mouth and then let the trench coat slip off his shoulders. Kikyo looked up in surprise when she realised he was holding it out to her.
"No don't take it off, it's cold out-"
"And you're a lot smaller than I am, so you'd feel the cold more. Put it on".
Uruha didn't wait for Kikyo to take the coat as he stepped forward to drape it around her shoulders - on him it was down to just above his knee, but on her it was only just above her ankle. He looked down at the length and gave a little laugh but Kikyo didn't mind. She didn't put her arms through the sleeves but just gripped the front closed. She smiled at him but then her eyes dropped again.
"Thank you ..."
She felt awkward ... no more than a couple of hours ago she'd shared a very romantic kiss with him and now suddenly she felt like it had been a dream. Uruha gestured for her to sit in the large comfy chair and not wanting to argue with him again, Kikyo sat down. Uruha then took up a seat on the arm of the chair and crossed his legs again as he drew back on his cigarette facing away from her - he didn't want Kikyo to have a cloud of smoke hanging around her face. Trying to avert her gaze away from his thighs, which were no more than a foot away from her, Kikyo cleared her thoughts to speak.
"Um ... Hey, this was a great party you put on. It was fun with just us, and not being out in a huge crowd for once. I had a lot of fun".
Uruha blew another stream of smoke and then smiled down at her.
"Well that's good, at least you had a good time. If Ruki and Reita had been here it would have been a lot louder and more exciting, but maybe next year. I'm glad you came though ..."
He than placed a hand on the back of the chair to support his weight as he leaned over to place a lingering kiss to the side of Kikyo's head. Kikyo felt like floating away - does he really like me after all? she thought, closing her eyes and smiling as she felt another small kiss to same spot on her head. Then as Uruha sat up again he placed a hand on her opposite shoulder, and Kikyo moved to lean against him. Suddenly she had the overwhelming urge to say something that had been on her mind ...
"U-um ... Uruha?"
"Hmm?"
Uruha glanced down at her - he couldn't see her face but he rested his lips on the top of her head.
"I um ... I really like you ... a lot ... and I was just wondering if, I mean when your not busy, maybe one day, a weekend or something-"
"I'd love to".
"-would you like to ... I mean ... what?"
Kikyo had been so busy trying to get the words out that she wanted to say that she only just noticed his response. She sat up and looked at him blankly, like she hadn't heard him right - did he just say 'yes'? Uruha looked at her, waiting for her to speak - she looked rather shocked, so he just went ahead and spoke first.
"I would love to go out with you sometime. Truth is ... I really like you a lot too, you have no idea ... but we have a small problem. Can I ask you something? You can just say no if you don't like it ..."
"What is it?"
Kikyo sat up alert, placing her hands on his bare knee without realising it - she was so eager to hear what he wanted to say. What could possibly be a problem? She felt a little panicked now.
"Are you willing ... to wait until after the Tour final? You see ... I wasn't intending to tell you how I felt so soon. I mean, between now and the 11th of March we've got the 'Hyena' release, our new album recording, video filming and then the second half of the Tour ..."
Uruha counted everything off on the hand that didn't hold his cigarette, before waving that hand in the air as if to say 'so many things to do, so little time'. Kikyo understood what he meant.
"So I was going to wait until after the final to tell you, then it wouldn't be like Ruki and Mika - he told her how he felt, but then he goes travelling across the countryside for a month. Don't get me wrong, I really believe Ruki loves her but ... he shouldn't have done it the way he did".
Kikyo nodded in understanding as Uruha went on.
"Now I'm afraid I've gone and done the same thing. I just think it's cruel to tell someone you like them, and then to disappear for god knows how long ..."
Uruha shrugged and reached across Kikyo to butt his cigarette out before he looked away. Kikyo noticed his expression was a mixture of frustration and a little bit of anger - was Uruha upset at Ruki? If so, then he looked far more troubled than to just simply be annoyed ... perhaps Uruha knew something that she didn't. But it was none of her business so she didn't press the subject. Or maybe Uruha was just distressed at himself for doing what Ruki did? Kikyo looked at the ground and gripped his knee firmly, again not realising it was his bare leg.
"Well ... if it will make you feel better, I'm not upset. I believe Ruki was just afraid that Mika wouldn't be single when you guys got back from Touring, and Mika doesn't hate him for being away. And anyway, I'm willing to wait for you but ... do you really like me that much?"
Kikyo glanced up at Uruha for a moment but then her eyes dropped again when he turned back to look at her. She then felt a hand lifting her chin up and then soft lips against hers - now she knew what Mika was talking about ... each kiss gave her more and more butterflies. Kikyo reached up to touch Uruha's face while her other hand gripped at the front of his shirt. Uruha again placed a hand on the back of the chair to hold himself up as he gripped the back of Kikyo's neck gently. Kikyo for the first time felt dizzy as his tongue lightly brushed over her bottom lip, and without hesitating, she met him halfway. The hand touching his face now clung to his shoulder tightly as the kiss got deeper and deeper. When the kiss finally broke Kikyo was a little out of breath as she just stared into Uruha's eyes, panting.
"Yes I do like you. I think you're the sweetest and most classy girl I've met in a long time ... and I hope that didn't sound too cheesy".
Kikyo giggled softly and shook her head. Uruha nodded and massaged the back of her neck.
"So ... your really willing to wait another ten or eleven weeks? I'm not asking you to wait, you might just turn around and decide you want to see someone else ..."
"But I really don't like anyone else, to be honest. The last guy I dated was probably when I was twenty, and that was the worst mistake of my life ... so then I kinda turned all of my attention onto you. It always cheered me up to watch you play".
Uruha gave a little laugh and lowered his head - he sounded embarrassed. Kikyo smiled warmly at him when he sat up again.
"In that case, I look forward to our first date when I come home. And a word to your ex ... he doesn't know what he's missing ..."
Kikyo found herself blushing more at those last few words as he softly poked the tip of her nose - she was seeing a completely different side to Uruha ... a real romantic side. He then stood up and held out his hands for Kikyo; she took hold of them and pulled herself off the chair. Uruha reached up to brush a few strands of hair away from Kikyo's face, and she cursed herself for being considerably shorter than him.
"I'm sorry to ask you to wait ... I'll make it up to you by taking you somewhere special, ne?"
"Uruha, I highly doubt I'd fall for anyone else between now and when the Tour finishes. You don't have to apologise ... although I do like the idea of going somewhere special".
Uruha grinned and bent down to kiss her once more before placing his hand to her lower back, guiding her towards the doors. Kikyo again very carefully opened it and tiptoed back inside, then hung up Uruha's coat by the door while he softly closed the door again. It was still very early and unlikely that the others would wake up any earlier than at least eleven or twelve. So Kikyo and Uruha silently crawled back into their bed, which was now cold, much to Kikyo's displeasure. But no sooner had she put her head down on the pillow but Uruha once again had his arm around her and holding her close to his chest. This time Kikyo also draped her arm around his body, marvelling at how broad his back was in real life. She smiled when Uruha kissed her forehead softly ... she was definitely going to wait for him. He genuinely seemed to like her ... and to Kikyo, that was a good enough reason.
* * *
Kira yawned widely and stretched out her body to its fullest length; her arms were pushing against the wall above her pillow that she was pushing herself down the bed. She blinked and glanced at the bedroom door - daylight was streaming through from the lounge room. Kira yawned again and rolled over to snuggle into Reita's back - it was already morning and she did not want to get up. When Reita felt a lump rolling up against his back, he rubbed his face firmly and turned over with great difficulty because Kira wasn't moving away from him. He lifted an arm up to rest the elbow on his pillow and prop his head up as Kira made a noise of disapproval before shifting so close her face was buried in his chest. Reita smiled and combed his fingers into her hair to soothingly massage her head.
"Good morning ..."
He said plainly. Kira gave a long groan as she tangled her arms around Reita's naked body - after their second time of making love neither of them had bothered to get dressed again. So for the rest of the night Reita and Kira had just fallen asleep together, stripped and in each other's arms. Once Kira felt like Reita had massaged her head for long enough she lifted her head from his chest, but didn't dare unwrap her arms from his body. She smiled weakly up at him.
"Morning ..."
Reita gave her a sweet kiss.
"How did you sleep?"
"Great ... I had no idea I'd sleep so well beside you. It was comforting".
Kira tightened her grip on Reita body and he laughed.
"It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact I kept accidentally touching her ass all night, would it?"
"Oh, was that accidental? I hadn't noticed ..."
And having to summon up a bit of strength, seeing Reita was quite heavy, she rolled onto her back and pulled him on top of her in a big cuddle. Reita had to use his elbows to support his weight; Kira was much smaller than him so the last thing he wanted to do was crush her. Kira kissed him feverishly and wrapped her legs around his waist. Reita was a little surprised at her assertiveness.
"What's all this now? Do you want to go again already?"
Kira blushed and wished she could look away ... but there was nowhere to look away.
"What do you do, take vitamins? No, I'm just going to miss you. I don't want to go home, and then wait for two months to see you again. I don't know how Mika did it for one month!"
"Well ... I believe Ruki and Mika are stronger than we think, but I also think you're a strong person too. Remember what I said before? Forever?"
Kira sighed lightly and then smiled - he was right.
"Okay ... then Mika and I can sulk together until you guys come back. Oh and we're still looking forward to the release of 'Hyena' too. And it's a shame we're going to miss Aoi and Ruki's birthdays. Mika and Ai will be especially sad".
Reita laughed and shook his head.
"Tell them not to be. We'll be in the middle of recording our new album, so birthday's won't be on the top of our 'must do' list. Tell them it's not important".
"Ai I'm not worried about ... but you want me to say that to Mika? Believe me, she won't listen".
Both of Kira's eyebrows were raised, her expression saying 'this is Mika and Ruki we're talking about'. Reita laughed again and nodded.
"Fair enough. Well ... I'm getting hungry so I'll make some breakfast. Why don't you go have a shower and it'll be ready when you get out".
"Why can't you just have a shower with me and then make breakfast?"
Kira looked sulkily at Reita but he just shook his head.
"Because I know what will happen ... and I want to go back to work tomorrow with full strength, thank-you very much. Because of you I now feel tired".
Reita said firmly but not to say he was mad - besides he also didn't want Kira to think it was all he wanted out of their relationship. Kira pouted a bit more but then smiled in understanding before he rolled off her and sat up, scratching his head as he felt around beside the bed for his track-pants. Kira stayed lying where she was and watched him adoringly, even when he stood up with his bare backside facing her so he could put his pants on. As he walked around the bed to head for the lounge, he looked at Kira, made a sharp loud whistle and pointed to his bathroom door - that was his way of telling Kira to 'move it'. Kira giggled and waved her hand at him as if to say 'yeah, yeah' before he disappeared. With one last glance at the ceiling, she pulled herself out of bed and dug around in her overnight bag to find a change of underwear and clothes. She then quickly darted into the bathroom and shut the door - the quicker she got under hot water; the better ... being naked wasn't helping to keep the cold air away.
--
"Hmm that smells great!"
Kira said dreamily as she walked into the kitchen to see Reita standing over the stove. He turned around and smiled at her before going back to watching the frying pans. Kira half stood behind Reita with her cheek resting against his shoulder and she watched too. He was making what looked like scrambled eggs with whole cooked tomatoes and sausages.
"Oh, the few times I've gone to America with my parents we always have a breakfast like this ... but the moment we're all back in Japan, it's back to traditional".
Reita laughed.
"Wow, it sounds like your parents love to immerse themselves in the typical style of food of whatever country they're in at the time".
"You have no idea. They're unusually in-touch with their feel for food. I guess that's why they were successful in establishing restaurants in America ... because of their 'flare'."
Reita nodded with real interest - they obviously loved creating food so much that it drove them to try weird and wonderful things, and the result was a thriving business. It sounded interesting and fun to be doing what Kira's parents were doing ... now he understood how Kai felt. He continued to alternate from poke the eggs around one pan, then doing the same with the tomatoes and sausages in the other pan. Kira still had her cheek against his shoulder, one hand now gripping his other shoulder - it was nice to watch him, considering she'd only ever heard about Kai cooking. Neither of them said anything else while they stood by the stove ... just watching the sizzling pans; Reita every now and then turned around to softly kiss Kira's forehead. Within a few minutes he turned off the gas and began to serve the food evenly onto two plates.
"Here ... it probably isn't as good as the way your parents make it, though".
He handed one plate to Kira who took it eagerly while he went to set the pans in the sink.
"Seriously, it smells great! That only means it will taste great, too!"
"Thanks ..."
Reita said softly, clearly embarrassed. He then took his own plate and walked with Kira back into the lounge area to eat on the sofa. No music or TV were on so it was nice to eat in peace and quiet ... noise and music had been going on for most of the night, which resulted in lack of sleep after love-making. Reita sat down and then Kira sat beside him, having a little giggle when he pulled her legs up to lay across his lap. He was now sort of using Kira's legs as a 'table' while he jagged random pieces of food with his fork. She was not only amazed but also happy at how comfortable he was just acting normal around her - he obviously knew he could be normal around her, and she wouldn't think any less of his. Kira hadn't realised she was staring at him until he glanced over while chewing his mouthful.
"You alright?"
Kira blinked and smiled.
"Oh ... yeah, I'm alright. I guess I was just thinking ... you know last night how I wanted to see the 'behind closed doors' side of you?"
Reita smirked as he looked back down at his plate and nodded, again jabbed at his food.
"Oh yeah? And what do you think?"
"I'm glad I did ... cause I don't just see 'Reita' anymore. Now I know you".
Reita turned to stare at her through his jagged fringe, again chewing on a mouthful. Kira felt a blush coming on and she immediately dropped her head to look at the plate, now busily digging in to her breakfast. Reita looked back at his plate and started pushing the eggs around.
"That's good then. And just so you know ... the reason I didn't have a shower with you is because I don't want you to think ... you know ... that's all I want from you".
They both looked up at each other at the same time. Kira now felt awkward - having made love twice within twenty-four hours ... maybe he was beginning to think that's all she wanted? She quickly shovelled a fork full of egg into her mouth, and just as quickly chewed and swallowed. Kira felt she had to say something before she felt too guilty.
"Reita, I'm sorry. I don't want you to think that's all I want either because I really do like you so much. I don't want you to think this is all happening because you're famous, either. Like I said, I now know you ... and I'm lucky, so I never want to ruin that".
"It's okay, I believe you're an honest and natural person ... I think that's why I liked you so much the first time we met".
Kira smiled warmly at Reita's words - she felt so much better now; he wasn't thinking what she thought he was. Now that little moral dilemma had been cleared up Kira went back to eating but had to look up again when she noticed Reita leaning towards her. A second later she felt his lips pressed against hers in a sweet lasting kiss ... just right. Kira felt the onset of melting again as she leaned into his kiss while also trying not to drop her plate. Reita hated the thought of going back to work the next day and not seeing Kira for another two months ... he knew Kira was thinking the same thing. His first girlfriend in about six years, he gets to spend a total of about twenty-two hours with her and then run off again for another two months to work ... the timing with just great, wasn't it? Reita really wanted to make it up to Kira.
* * *
Ruki slowly, and with a lot of effort, rolled over from his back to his stomach, and then letting out a long low groan - his head was border-line exploding. This was the reason Ruki insisted Mika never sleep on his sofa the first night she stayed ... and yet last night both of them did just that. Now he was paying for it ... with a combination of a few too many drinks, sex and then sleeping very heavily for the rest of the night for being exhausted. Ruki moaned again and felt around the bed beside him for any sign of Mika, but she wasn't there and her side was cold. She's up already? he thought as he grunted from struggling to push himself up to sit on the edge of the bed, the blanket was bunched around his waist. He firmly rubbed his face with both hands, than combed his fingers through his hair - he hadn't felt this bad in a long time.
Ruki squinted as he glanced slowly around the room for any sign of Mika; he couldn't hear anything so she obviously wasn't inside. He began to wonder if she'd gone home already and now a mix of panic and hurt was rushing through him ... until he heard a little yap coming from his balcony, followed by a little 'shh'. Oh ... she's only outside, he thought with a deep sigh of relief - he knew better than to think she'd leave without him knowing. So Ruki snatched his pants from the floor and just managed to push his legs into them without falling backwards into the bed. When he finally stood up, after using the coffee table for balance, he took his faithful big sunglasses and pack of cigarettes before slowly shuffling towards the balcony door. He could just see Mika around the corner to the right.
She was sitting on the large soft armchair that Ruki had wedged in the corner, much like Uruha had. She was wearing her red tracksuit and had her feet up on the chair with her knees cuddled to her chest. Mitsu was sitting beside the chair, panting and looking hopefully up at her; she was holding a large mug of something hand smiling as she shook her head at Mitsu as if to say 'no your not getting it'. Ruki had to put his sunglasses on now because for a change there was a bright blue sky and it was very glary - not a good thing for a migraine. It was then Ruki pushed open the sliding door and Mika looked up, smiling brighter when she saw him. Mitsu of course was very excited to see his owner and began dancing in circles around Ruki's feet, and barking ... also not much help for a migraine. Ruki's face scrunched up under those big sunglasses.
"Mitsu, shut-up will you ..."
Ruki didn't want to be mean to poor Mitsu but until his headache went away, Ruki wasn't in the mood to play. Mika bit her bottom lip, trying not to laugh as she clicked her fingers to get Mitsu's attention, thereby calling the little dog away from his cranky master. Ruki smiled weakly at Mika to say thankyou before again shuffling over to the chair, where Mika dropped her feet to let Ruki sit down - because they were both quite small it was easy for both of them to sit. Once Ruki was settled he pat his lap a couple of times, meaning for Mika to lay her legs across him, which she did. Mika could tell Ruki wasn't felling very well, even though he had his sunglasses on ... just his straight expression and occasional little scrunch of the face told her. She held out the mug to him.
"Here, do you want some coffee? I don't know how you like your coffee, but I tend to have mine kind of weak ... your welcome to have some if you like".
"Oh ... thanks babe ... I think I'm willing to try anything ..."
Ruki said in a quite voice as he took the mug and examined the contents before taking a decent mouthful. Mika took the mug back from him as he then leaned forward on his knees as he took a cigarette from its pack, and like always tapping the butt against the pack. He stuck it to the corner of his mouth and lit it, then blowing some smoke before scratching his head and looking at Mika.
"How are you feeling? Are you alright?"
"Don't worry about me. You're the one that doesn't sound all right. Can I do anything?"
Mika sat up to lean towards him anxiously, rubbing his shirtless back gently. Ruki smiled, this time a little brighter before turning back to the cigarette again.
"No ... I'll be fine. I'm actually talking about ... last night. Are you sore? Or do you regret it now? I was concerned when I woke up and you were gone. I thought you'd left ..."
Mika continued to rub his back, but he didn't look at her - he was worried.
"Well, yeah ... I am a little sore but that's normal for first time, I know that. And no, I don't regret it at all. And I wouldn't leave here without telling you. Why all of a sudden do you have all these worries when I'm the one that does the worrying?"
"Because I don't want you hurting ... like now that it's happened, I hate to think that you'd want to take it all back. And it's been so long since I've really loved, that ... I don't want to loose you".
Ruki looked down at his hands, palms up, before clenching them tightly, almost crushing the shaft of his cigarette at the same time. He cradled it to his mouth, still not looking at Mika, but more like waiting for her to answer. He wanted to know from her that she was happy. Meanwhile Mika was stunned at how ... scared he sounded. What happened to the strong side of Ruki she saw on stage?
"Ruki, what's this all about, you're scaring me. Why would you think you'd loose me? I decided last night that enough was enough and I wanted to be with you ... of course it was a big decision for me, but I wanted to. You talk about not wanting me to be hurt, well ... the physical pain is natural, I'm not so naïve that I don't know that ... but if your referring to something else, then what?"
Don't tell her, it will only hurt even more, Ruki argued with himself, it's too soon. He properly turned around to look at her concerned face, really wishing he could take his sunglasses off so she could look into his eyes. Ruki swapped hands with his cigarette so he could keep it away from her as he leaned over to kiss her deeply.
"I'm sorry, it's nothing. I guess emotions are still running high from last night ... I can still feel you".
"Oh don't say it like that, I feel embarrassed".
Mika blushed and giggled at the last words he said, which followed by him grinning like a Cheshire cat - he looked even creepier with the sunglasses. Ruki laughed at her but then his face scrunched up again at feeling a sudden stab in his right temple. He gripped Mika's legs as he now leaned back into the chair and crossed his legs, leaning his head back as he drew back on his cigarette.
"So your sure your alright? How long have you been up anyway?"
"Stop it, I'm just fine, it'll go away. And I've only been up for half an hour. I just went to your room to change, Mitsu decided to get up too. I went and made a coffee and then we came out here. It's a nice morning so I thought it would be nice to sit outside".
Ruki made a disgusted noise and Mika laughed at him.
"A nice morning, she says. Tell me if there is such thing as a nice morning when you have a migraine, and then I'll keep my mouth shut".
"I think you just need food, coffee, a shower, and a good nights sleep tonight. At least you'll get to have a decent rest for tomorrow when I go home later".
Ruki turned his head to look at Mika but not lifting it from the back of the chair.
"Please don't talk about you going home. I'd just like to enjoy your company for as long as I can without thinking about that ..."
Mika smiled apologetically and reached over to grip his arm reassuringly. She didn't want to think or talk about it either but Mika was determined to not be sad; it wasn't like she was never going to see him again ... he would just be away a little bit longer this time. Besides, there were exciting times coming up and Mika wouldn't have time to be sad - she was starting her University course near the end of January, the new 'Hyena' CD release ... which was going to be interesting because it involved going to a busy music store to claim their pre-order copies first. Chances are Gazette fans wouldn't have forgotten her and the other girls yet but they were determined not to be afraid. Mika leaned forward and gave Ruki another deep kiss - she was going to be brave for him ...

NOTES:
1) Uruha & Kikyo: Even though Uruha let Kikyo know how he feels, they are not 'officially' dating just yet, because of course they wouldn't be seeing each until after the Decomp Finale
2) Uruha upset with Ruki?: There's that feeling again, that Uruha is hiding something ...
3) Kira's parents: If you don't remember, they're big restaurant business owners in Japan and America
4) Ruki's angst: Here again we have Ruki wanting to say something but then it's gone again. Somethings going on ...
