:2 years later, Bill’s POV:
“Bill, you better not be checking the fucking mags again!” Tom shouted across the isles of the grocery store. I growled at him and followed them to the check stand. We got out the door quickly and Gustav pulled a pack of Twizzlers from under his jacket.“Just like old times,” He smiled, opening the bag and offering us some of his contraband. I shook my head, hopping into the car and buckling my seatbelt quickly. Tom drove us back to our flat, since we only left for an alcohol run before Top Chef came on. The American show always had the best looking food, we just couldn’t resist. Georg started the show, glad we squeezed a Tivo out of our record label, and we gathered on the couch. I poured a liberal amount of Vodka into my cup before sitting next to Tom. I didn’t pay any attention to the show until I heard them all shouting around me. I looked up and felt my heart skip a beat. It was Marina, but she looked so different.
“Hi, I’m Marina Fischer, I’m 21 years old and I’ve been cooking since I was 12,” her voice rang over the TV set. She was smiling wide, and there was life in her beautiful green eyes, but her hair was shorter, barely hitting her shoulders, and a vibrant shade of blond. The clip cut and she seemed a little annoyed.
“Yes, it’s true that I dated Bill Kaulitz. He was amazing, but unfortunately it just didn’t work out,” she said, the light in her eyes temporarily dimmed. Seeing her on the screen made my heart skip before throbbing painfully. All the longing for her, all the feelings I still had came rushing back and tried to suffocate me. The group continued watching the show, but I couldn’t do it. I left my cup and went for a walk, buttoning up a heavy brown jacket and a scarf. The frozen air threatened to break me out of my alcohol stupor, and I breathed it in deeply, feeling a few frozen tears on my face. I walked down the sidewalk, trying to get her lovely face out of my mind. I stepped into the street before I saw the headlights coming at me.
: Normal POV:“That show was so rigged!” Emily laughed, turning of the premier of Top Chef. We finally got to watch it since we had both been working. I laughed, bringing our dinner plates into the kitchen.“Yeah I don’t know how I was beat by a 48 year old fireman!” I laughed. The phone rang and Em answered it, her face falling and handing it to me.
“Hello?” I asked, sitting at the computer to finish typing the last page of my recipe book.
“Marina, It’s Georg. We need you here in Germany,” He said quickly. He sounded out of breath. “Bill was in an accident. He’s in the hospital now, the same your grandmother was in. Gustav booked a ticket online for you on United. It leaves in an hour and a half. I’ll be at the airport to pick you up,” He said. I agreed quietly, hanging up the phone and automatically packing a duffle bag with a couple outfits and my necessities. I was running on auto-pilot as Emily drove me to the airport. I grabbed my ticket at the counter and boarded the plane within an hour of the call.
I saw Georg as soon as I stepped into the main terminal, and he gave me a tight hug.“Hey, we can go get your stuff-” he said.
“No, I’ve got everything I need in here,” I said, shifting my duffle higher on my shoulder. We walked out to where his car was parked in the street, emergency flashers on, and drove quickly to the hospital.
“Thankfully the car was already going pretty slow, but he’s still bad. He was knocked out and broke both bones in his lower right leg. He’s also got bad scrapes from the road on his arms, sides and face, and bad bruising across his chest and the hip where he was hit,” Georg briefed me as we walked towards the waiting room. I stopped him before we went inside the automatic doors.
“You aren’t telling me something. What is it?” I asked, reading the unease on his face.
“Tom is blaming you. I don’t know why, but he seems to be convinced it’s your entire fault Bill was in the accident,” Georg said. I swallowed hard and nodded, following him into the waiting room. I spotted the two quickly, Tom ignoring me and Gustav standing to give me a hug.
“Bill took off after we started watching Top Chef,” Gustav whispered in my ear as he hugged me. “I don’t know why he needed to leave, but he was drinking heavy since the split, and then you were on there on TV and…” Gustav trailed off, pulling away. I felt my heart fall further, now seeing why Tom blamed me.
“I don’t see why you’re here,” Tom muttered. Gustav kicked him as Georg pulled me into his lap.
“What? None of you are speaking up. She shouldn’t be here! We’ve been picking up the pieces cause she went and fucking broke his heart. Do you have any idea how much he’s been drinking lately? At least two bottles a night! Now he’s landed in the hospital and you come running?” Tom screamed in my face, tears in his eyes. I felt angry and hurt, hearing how our split affected him.
“So you think that it’s all my fault? Let me tell you something. He’s the one that broke us up because he felt it wasn’t fair to have a long distance relationship. Then shows up at my door and says I started this all. I don’t know what happened tonight, or why we broke up. But don’t you dare say I don’t know what it’s been like. I’ve been hurting just as much. I loved him, more than you would ever know Tom,” I yelled back at him. He stared at me, wanting to shout something back, but didn’t. Nick walked through the doors after our shouting match, spotting the boys and then me. He seemed startled to see me there, but came to the group as the doctor came over.
“Family for Bill Kaulitz?” The doctor asked, and we all gathered around him. “He’s awake now, tired and on medication, but he’s asking for you. We’ll let three of you go back at a time,” he said. Gustav and Tom were obviously the first two to go, but Georg held Nick back from stepping forward.
“Mina, you go with them,” Georg said, eyeing Nick and his eagerness to be first in. I followed Tom and Gustav into the hospital room. The doctor shut the door behind us, and we saw Bill lying in the bed with his eyes closed.
“You look like hell,” Gustav said, breaking the silence. Bill smiled, eyes still closed.
“You’ll never guess who rushed here to be by your side,” Tom said, disdain dripping from his voice. Bill opened his eyes and immediately spotted me, and frowned.
“Get out,” he said quietly.
“Bill, she just flew red eye with ten minutes notice to be-”
“I don’t care. Get the hell out of my room,” He shouted, screwing his face up in pain as he tried to shift in his bed. I left the room and went back to the waiting area, tapping Georg on the shoulder and sending him back.
“So I take it he didn’t want to see you?” Nick asked, a smug smile across his face as he scrolled around on his blackberry.
“No he didn’t,” I answered shortly before walking out the glass doors.
I stood outside in the cold air, dialing Bee as I paced.“Dude, you do remember it’s 6 am here now right?” Buick groaned.
“I know. I need you to pick me up from the hospital. Same one Oma was in,” I said, sniffing and pulling my jacket tighter.
“You’re back in Germany? Without telling me?” She asked, fully alert now.
“Yeah, and I’ll tell you why if you come get me,” I said. She hung up, and I knew it’d be maybe fifteen minutes before she was here. I sat on the bench, pulled my knees up to my chin, and waited for her.
:Bill’s POV: “Georg, could you get me water?” I asked. He nodded silently, leaving the room. “Tom, why was she here?” I groaned, feeling like everything in my body was on fire. My leg throbbed and so did my chest, and not just from seeing her. It was worse than the TV.“Georg called her to bring her over. She’s really torn up too you know,” Gustav told me when Tom refused, sitting with his arms crossed over his chest. I rolled my eyes.
“I don’t believe you. If she hurt so bad she wouldn’t have left so easily,” I said, looking my brother in the eye. Georg came back in the room with the water I asked for and clearly pissed off.
“She didn’t break up with you,” he said simply. I furrowed my brows, looking at him. “I just think the whole thing was sketchy from the start. I feel it in my gut that something is off,” He said. That must have been the most I heard him speak in the last two years.
“Where is she?” I asked. Georg shrugged.
“Went outside. I don’t know where she’s going, or what she’ll do since her bag is still in my car,” he said. I nodded, thinking. Whatever drugs they had me on, they were making me work much slower than normal. Nick tapped on the glass door and opened it quickly.
“I think it’s time for you guys to head back home, there’s going to be lots of press about this situation in a few hours and you should all get some rest,” he said, his mood more cheerful than the rest of the room. The boys each muttered goodbyes, Tom giving me a tight hug before filing out the door. I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, but images of Marina and the hurt look on her face as she left wouldn’t leave. My whole body ached, and not from my injuries.
“Nick, can you try to find Marina?” I asked quietly. At first I didn’t think he had heard me, until he let out a deep sigh.
“Why don’t you focus on recovering, and we can figure out how to keep her from talking about your condition later?” he countered. I opened my eyes to narrow them on him.
“I don’t care if she tells them I’m having hookers visiting me in the hospital. I want her back, Nick. I can’t stand not having her around any more,” I shouted. He stood, and for a moment I thought he was finally listening to me.
“You don’t get it do you? I spent years building up your public appeal. Years working on your innocent yet dangerous appeal to thousands of girls! The fact that few girls have gotten close, but none have ever had you. But by “accident”, this nobody girl from the States that has no idea who you are finds her way into your bed? In a week? She could have destroyed my life’s work in one interview!” He yelled. “She’s just some faceless nobody in a highly populated city-”
“How did you know she said that?” My whole body was numb from hearing her words again
“BECAUSE I WROTE THEM! I needed her out before press got wind that you were sleeping with this tramp and ruined your reputation!” Nick screamed, launching spittle projectiles as his anger boiled over.
“You’re worried about the press? What about my life? I WAS HAPPY, Nick. It may have been a week, but there were too many coincidences to ignore what had so obviously been put in front of me! Losing her almost killed me, almost broke up the band, for the sake of public image?” I wished I could walk, so I could punch him and his career goals.
“You’re fired Nick. Get out and never try to contact any of us again,” I said, my fists balled against my side. It was as if a bucket of water had hit him, and he paled.
“Bill- y-you don’t... It’s the meds talking. We’ll find her a-and figure something out,” he tried to back pedal as fast as he could but I held up a hand.
“No. You will no longer be handling any of our affairs. And any word to the press about your time with us, including your separation, and we will take legal action. Now get the fuck out of my room.” I picked my phone off the small table next to the bed and dialed Gustav as Nick stormed out of the room.
“You ok? Need me to come back?” He sounded panicked already.
“I need you to find Marina. I fired Nick, he’s the one behind our break up, behind everything. I have to tell her and get her to come back. Please,” I felt my control over my emotions slipping, and quickly wiped a stray tear away before clearing my throat.
“Yeah, we tried outside, she was gone already. I’ll try Bee. Hang in there man,” he said softly before hanging up. I leaned into my pillows further, hoping they could find her in time.
