Chapter Three: Happily Ever Afters All ’Round
===============================================================
Rath shivered as Thatz’s fingers slid inside of him, moaning slightly as the other trailed kisses up and down his neck. After a few slightly painful but pleasant movements the fingers disappeared, but they were quickly replaced... Thatz stifled Rath’s half-scream, half-groan with passionate kisses, and after the Fire knight’s pain was gone he began to move cautiously inside him. Rath grabbed the other’s hips, needing him to be closer...
Rath shot up in bed, gasping and clutching his chest. He was drenched in sweat, he noticed. Worse yet, he was alone... After catching his breath, he cautiously felt the sheets and grimaced, wondering what the maids would say. Stupid dream; how embarrassing...
He got up and changed into fresh pajamas, but by the time he was done he didn’t really feel like going back to sleep - especially in *those* sheets... He walked over to the window and looked out, desperately wishing he was out there, and more specifically with a certain someone out there. They had never even gotten a chance to finish what they had started yesterday, in the dining hall. After Thatz packed, Alfeegi and the other officers managed to keep them busy the whole way till lunch, then they ate and Thatz and Rune headed off in different directions. Rath hadn’t been able to keep his mind on what he was doing all day and this stupid... but pleasant... dream was just going to make it worse.
Finally, after much thinking, he made up his mind. There was really only one thing he could do. He changed his clothes for a second time that night into something a bit more practical for being outside in, then grabbed a few things from around the room. Sneaking out of his room, he made a brief stop in the kitchens before leaving the castle without a second glance.
===============================================================
The sun was bright, and it was shining right in his eyes. Thatz groaned and rolled over, covering his head with the pillow. He had to remove the pillow after a minute though, as he was suffocating himself. He groggily opened his eyes and looked around, trying to get his bearings. Oh yeah, he had been staying the night at an inn... He sighed a little as he remembered what he was doing and where he was. Stupid mission... It was only around one in the afternoon of the second day, by the angle of the sun (he was very grateful Alfeegi wasn’t there or he would be dead for sure, some small part of his mind mused), and he already missed Rath. He could still remember the feeling of his soft lips on his, just before Rune had to go and walk in on them...
Thatz abruptly sat up, stretching and blocking those thoughts from his mind. Like it or not he was on a mission from the Lord, and he needed to concentrate on it. So he got up and got dressed before heading down to the bar on the first floor to get some breakfast before leaving.
While waiting for his meal to arrive he looked around, eavesdropping on the conversations of the people around him for lack of anything better to do. Most of it was typical discussions on things like crops and weather, but something caught his attention.
“Did you hear about what the Fire Knight’s done now?”
Thatz almost fell out of his chair in his hurry to find out who said it. “What did he do?” he demanded with mixed interest and dread.
The man who had said it raised an eyebrow at him, but apparently decided to let him in to the conversation. “Snuck out of the castle again,” he said matter-of-factly.
Thatz groaned. ‘Not again... Rath, I’m gonna strangle you.’
The other man smirked. “Yeah, I’ve heard about that. And that’s not all he did...” Thatz frowned in confusion. “It seems... he’s run off with a lady friend,” he finished dramatically.
Thatz rolled his eyes. “Has he now?” he said, trying to keep from laughing out loud.
“Don’t believe us? Eliza!” the first man called. “She works at the castle but it’s her day off; she’ll tell you.”
Thatz looked up, and saw to his dismay a middle-aged, strict-looking woman who didn’t appear to be the type who would *ever* lie just for the sake of gossip coming over. She certainly worked at the castle too; Thatz recognized her clothes. “No; absolutely not,” she said tiredly, once she was in hearing distance.
“Oh, just one more time; come on.”
She glared at all three of them. “Only if you buy me another beer.” The two men nodded eagerly. “Each.”
“Don’t be cheap!” the second man protested. “It’s just that we thought this stranger would find it more believable if he heard if from you; that’s all...”
She shot him a particularly nasty look. “I hate gossip; you tell it once and you have to tell it twenty times,” she said venomously, then sighed. “Oh, fine; you’re obviously not going to leave me alone about it. The Fire Dragon Knight is gone, and the whole castle’s saying he ran off with a girl because when I went to change his sheets the morning after he disappeared, wer were... um... messy. *Very* messy; not just rumpled,” she explained, blushing a little. “Now, you lot owe me two beers, and that’s being generous.”
The two men, of course, got in to an extremely loud argument with her. Eventually Thatz bought her both the beers just to shut them all up, but he wasn’t really paying much attention to what he was doing. ‘There’s absolutely no way Rath would do that,’ he told himself fiercely. ‘It’s just gossip; no matter how trustworthy she looks that lady must be lying. Or else there’s been some mistake; the sneaking out of the castle part sounds like Rath... But there is no way he would do something like that...’ He kept telling himself that until he felt like he believed it.
===============================================================
Rath squinted up at the sign of the inn; it was so grimy that it was hard to read. And it didn’t help that he was so tired... and so hungry...
He had left the castle at about three in the morning, and crashed at an inn around seven. He had gotten up again at eleven, though, and had been traveling since then. Even with Alfeegi around he got more sleep than that at the castle; he had eaten all of his food this morning just to stay awake and now he was starving. *And* it also didn’t make things any better that he was already beginning to fmaybmaybe just a little foolish about all this... But he was hoping, really hoping, that Thatz might be at this inn. He ought to be checking in right about now, wherever he was, as it was around seven at night....
He scanned the crowd around the bar briefly after he walked in, but didn’t see him and wound his way over to a man who he presumed to be the owner. “You haven’t happened to see a guy with green hair, about my height, have you?” he asked without any introduction, trying not to sound too desperate.
The man regarded him with interest. “Why, yes. He checked in just a little while ago; would you like me to show you to his room?”
Rath was about to nod eagerly - ‘And I was just beginning to think I’d never catch up with him!’ - but he realized that, if things were going to go the way he hoped, he ought to get his energy up... He couldn’t keep from grinning a little when he said, “Thanks, but I’d like to have somet to to eat first, I think...”
Once he got his food, he proceeded to wolf it down as fast as possible. He couldn’t stand the thought that Thatz was in the same building as him, and they could finally do whatever they wanted, and he was sitting here making a pig of himself. But he was so hungry... Finally he finished and allowed the owner of the inn to lead him to Thatz’s room, where the man left him with a bow.
After hesitating for just a second to try and figure out what the best entrance would be, Rath knocked lightly on the door. There was a short pause, then Thatz opened it.
“Konnichiwa,” Rath said, grinning, and before Thatz had a chance to react he grabbed him in a playful strangled hold. “You lazy bum; I can’t believe you’ve only gotten this far!”
Thatz shoved him off a little roughly, then gaped at him. “What are you doing here?”
Rath grinned, coming in and closing the door behind him. “I came to see you, genius.”
“But I thought Lykouleon...”
Rath rolled his eyes. “Hey, I’ve snuck out of the castle before, and I figured this was worth it. You wouldn’t believe how boring it gets around there with just the officers and maids and stuff...” He drew Thatz close and started to kiss his neck, but the other knight shoved him off again.
“Boring, huh...” Rath gave him a confused look. “Did you really come all this way just to see me?”
“Why else would I?” the black-haired boy asked blankly.
Thatz wavered a little. He had been trying to convince himself that there was no way Rath would cheat on him, but traveling had left him with hours in which to do nothing but think... Though he seemed utterly oblivious just now; maybe he was wrong after all. But on the other hand part of the rumor had already proven to be true; he was certainly out of the castle... The Earth Knight shook his head as if to clear it. “Maybe to be with a girl?” he suggested quietly.
Rath stared at him for a minute, sitting down rather hard in the room’s only chair, then snickered. “A girl? Yuck... Why the heck would you think I wanted anything to do with a girl?”
Thatz glared at him. “Oh, stop it. It could be a guy for all I know, but that’s not the important part!” he said irritably, though inside he was sort of wondering where the mystery girl or boy was. “I heard from a pretty reliable source - one of the castle’s own maids! - what’s been going on since I left, so you don’t need to play innocent.”
“Excuse me...?” Rath stared at him for a moment, then finally said, “Whoa, hold on. What do you mean, what’s been going on since you left? I’d barely know better than you, you know; I left the morning after you did, before everyone got up!”
Thatz rolled his eyes. “Well, yeah, that’s what I mean. You left that morning - with someone, apparently! You really are careless; if you didn’t want everyone to know you should have *cleaned up* before you left!”
“Uh...” Suddenly Rath went fluorescent red as realization dawned, and fell off his chair with a resounding thud. “You mean the maids thought... that that was... oooohhh...”
Thatz glared at him. “Duh. What do you mean, ‘you mean the maids thought?’ I suppose you have some sort of an excuse?”
“I, I, I...” Rath went even redder, and covered his face in an attempt to hide it. “Yes, I mean... I had this, this... *dream*. And about you - you moron! - before you even think of something else!”
Thatz went a little red himself, but refuse to look at the other boy. “That’s the lamest excuse I’ve ever heard,” he stated bluntly.
Rath peeked out at him from between his fingers. “I could prove it to you,” he suggested.
Thatz snorted. “Yeah, I know; that’s all you want me for anyway.”
Abruptly, Rath stood up. Without a word, he wrapped his arms around the other boy’s waist and pulled him close. “I-!” Thatz squeaked, but any protest he might have had was drowned out as Rath caught his lips in a gentle but fiercely loving kiss. When they pulled apart, Thatz was shocked to see openness in the other’s eyes. Even when it was just the two of them, he did think he’d ever seen Rath look this open. He could see pain there, a lot of pain...
“I love you,” Rath said simply. “I didn’t used to think I could ever feel this way about anyone, and I didn’t think I deserved to either. It scares me sometimes, but I really do love you.”
At that moment, Thatz felt... immensely stupid. Imagine him, raised on the streets, actually believing a rumor! Usually he wouldn’t have, even from someone like that maid, but in this case... He buried his face in Rath’s shirt, shutting his eyes tightly. “I... I guess I was just so scared of losing you, that I... I’m sorry,” he whispered.
Rath smiled a little, burying his face, in turn, into Thatz’s hair. “Yeah, you better be, ya bakka. If it weren’t for you I would still be down there eating.”
The other knight almost choked, he started laughing so hard. “Way to ruin the mood...”
So suddenly that Thatz squeaked again, Rath pushed him down onto the bed. “Well, we’ll just have to do something about that, won’t we?”
Thatz merely grinned in response, and Rath could no longer be bothered to hold himself back. He attacked his love’s neck hungrily, and was awarded with a sigh when he flicked his tongue of the other’s pulse point. He smirked, and gently sucked the spot until Thatz let out a low moan. After a few moments, he deftly removed the Earth Knight’s shirt and proceeded to do about the same to both nipples.
A few minutes later, Thatz gasped as without warning a moist heat surrounded his length. When had his pants come off...? Not that it mattered, really; this felt so good that he could barely think straight. But when he groaned it was a mixture of pleasure and frustration; there was something he wanted to do, and if he let this go on much longer he might not get to...
“Mmm... Rath?”
“Hmm?” Rath smirked a little as Thatz inhaled sharply; that had almost felt too good, and for a moment he considered just forgetting about it. But he really wanted...
“Please... stop for a minute,” he managed to gasp. Rath raised an eyebrow, but he sat up.
“Why?” he asked warily.
“Because...” Thatz gave him a smirk of his own, then pulled Rath down next to him. “Don’t I get a turn once in a while?” he asked mischievously.
Rath blinked, then went bright red as a bit of his dream came back to him. He had been idly... or maybe more than idly... wondering how that would feel ever since he had had the thing. “Um... yeah, I guess...” he gulped, then snickered in spite of himself.
Thatz quickly removed the other knight’s clothes, then grinned down at him, realizing that he was blushing. “So, you have no problem with looking at me when I’m naked, but it embarrasses you like anything for me to look at you when you’re naked, is that it?”
Rath rolled his eyes. “Oh, hush,” he grumbled.
Thatz’s grin widened. “Don’t mind if I do,” he said, and took all of Rath in his mouth. The black-haired boy gasped, clutching at the sheets; well, he was certainly good at this... At the same time, Thatz inserted a single finger into the other’s entrance, moving it in time with his mouth.
Rath moaned, arching his back almost painfully. It felt so incredible; he’d never thought Thatz would be this good. The green-haired boy added another finger, making it even better. He could feel himself getting harder; he was going to...
Thatz stopped. “Thatz!” Rath moaned, shooting him the worse glare he could manage in his present state. “Are you trying to kill me?”
Thatz’s only reply was a semi-apologetic smirk, and then he flipped the Fire Knight onto his sch. ch. He kissed the other boy on the back of the neck to distract him, but Rath still winced a little from the pain as Thatz slowly inserted himself. Once Rath had relaxed, Thatz moved his hips slightly, and Rath gasped when he brushed a certain spot and bucked his own hips in response. Their pace quickly became more frantic, and the small part of Rath’s mind that was still working registered the fact the he probably wouldn’t be able to walk properly for the next week or so - not that he cared.
Thatz was so glad they weren’t doing this in the dragon castle; he was practically at the point of screaming. Rath was so tight; he hoped he wasn’t hurting him, but then, his koi certainly didn’t seem to be complaining. He was using one hand to support his weight, but with the other he reached around and started massaging Rath’s length in time with his thrusts. It felt so good to be doing this, to be making him his own... In what seemed like no time at all they both came, and Thatz barely managed to avoid landing on Rath when he collapsed.
Rath was the first to speak up, after their breathing had slowed. “Now, see, I couldn’t have done that with a girl.”
Thatz rolled his eyes. “Well, yeah, I suppose not...” He wrapped his arms lightly around Rath, and after a few moments Rath yawned.
“Going to sleep?” he asked, mildly disappointed.
Rath glowered playfully at him. “I’ve been chasing you day and night; what do you thinkut,”ut,” he added, grinning, at Thatz’s slightly frustrated expression, “You can wake me up in a couple hours if you’re still awake.”
“Oh, I’m sure I will be... Aishitaru.”
There were a few moment of silence, and Thatz was just beginning to think Rath had fallen asleep - again - when he whispered, “I love you too.”
===============================================================
They didn’t wind up waking until around two - the next afternoon. Thatz winced at the thought; it looked like this mission was going to take a bit longer than it was supposed to. But the funny thing was that, when he kissed Rath (who had, for some strange reason, developed a slight limp ^_^) good morning, that didn’t really seem to matter.
They naturally would have wound up staying in that room all day if they could have, but that wasn’t exactly an option. After last night’s activities, neither would have lasted long without breakfast. So they reluctantly made their way toward the front room, and that’s when what was probably the most terrible thing to happen to Thatz during this entire fic occurred.
He would recognize that teal hair until the day he died. “Alfeegi!” he hissed, and shoved Rath unceremoniously under a table. “He’s probably looking for you!”
Thatz tried to move under the table as well, but it was too late. “Thatz!” Alfeegi called, coming over. The ex-thief gulped, quickly moving in front of the table.
“Why have you only gotten this far?” the white officer demanded.
“Um, eh, well, you see-”
“And have you seen Rath?” Alfeegi plowed on, not waiting for an answer. “He’s disappeared, and the maids are all saying that he’s run off with some girl, but the other officers and I are pretty sure he’s off hunting demons again. I’ve been looking everywhere for him.”
Thatz sweatdropped. “Um, nope, haven’t seen him, eh...”
The officer shot him an odd glance, but didn’t comment. “Oh, and one other thing.”
“Uh...”
“I was hoping I would run into you, because I wanted to let you know that your mission’s been canceled.”
“What?!”
Alfeegi sighed. “It turns out that the last batch of dragon fighters took care of the thief problem Zul had been having, but then the idiots had a party the day before leaving the island, got drunk, and got lost. Of course, his Lordship finds it all very amusing so I can’t do anything about it, but-”
“Um, Alfeegi?” Thatz pleaded. “Can I eat now?”
The older man frowned. “Oh, very well. I suppose I should continue my search. But if you happen to bump into Rath on your way back, you have my permission to bring him back bound and gagged if necessary.”
Thatz sweatdropped even more. “Uh, okay, thanks. Eh, good luck.”
It was only after the white officer had left that that Thatz allowed himself to sink, shivering, into the nearest chair. “He scares me, Rath,” he whimpered.
Rath nodded solemnly. “Yeah... Man, that stinks. Since your mission’s been canceled, that means we have to go... back,” he said, pouting a little.
Suddenly, Thatz grinned. “Please don’t pout like that in public; it’s just too tempting.”
Rath grinned too. “Sorry... well, not too. Now, I have just one question. Exactly how long do you think we could drag getting back to the castle out?”
