Chapter 1 – Affect
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stacy wiped the cold sweat from her forehead again. Her body was aching but she didn’t complain. She stood in the center of the ring along with Trish, Molly and Victoria. It was late and Fit Finley was finishing his instructions about power holding.
It was a long training session; all four divas learned top rope falls and over the rope bumps. Stacy was the only one who had to do them repeatedly before she got them right. She hated how she was such a slow learner. Fit, however was very patient and worked with Stacy well enough for her to at least land a couple perfectly.
“All right you all did great, see you next week.” He ended.
As Stacy climbed out of the ring she took notice that her right shoulder was really hurting
She knew it was from being thrown over the top rope one too many times. She winced as she tried to move it.
“You really took a beating.” A voice sounded.
She turned to find Randy Orton smiling at her. His sleeveless shirt showed off his arm muscles. They were dreamy.
“Oh you were watching.” She dumbly replied.
“Just the last fifteen minutes.” He said. “You looked like you were getting the hang of it.”
Stacy rolled her eyes. He was just being nice. She looked like a ragged doll getting thrown around by Victoria. She decided to change the subject.
“You here to train?”
He nodded. “Just a few things before tomorrow. I have to master taking the tombstone.” He added glancing at Glen Jacobs who was warming up.
Stacy followed his gaze. Ever since the Droz incident, the company was really careful about who delivered and received the dangerous move. She knew she’d never agree to take it.
“So, you wrestling tomorrow?” He asked turning back to her.
Stacy snapped her attention back to the handsome wrestler. “If you call rolling around in my underwear with Christy wrestling, then yea.”
Randy smirked. “Actually I’d call that heaven.”
Trying hard not to blush like a teenage girl Stacy just returned a light smile. “You and the rest of the American males.” She remarked.
Randy innocently shrugged. “Hey, we’re only human.”
“Hey Randy let’s go!” Fit called from the ring.
The wrestler turned to Stacy and smiled. “Talk to you later.”
“Bye.” Still smiling she watched as he slid into the ring with game face on.
The locker room was almost empty when Stacy entered it. Trish was showered and lacing up her shoes already.
“Hey Stace, great work out there.” She greeted when she saw her.
Stacy grunted. “Yea right, not as good as you.”
“Don’t be so hard on yourself. You just began training, no one said you’d change overnight. Look at me, it took me two years before I knew how to punch properly.” Trish smiled.
Stacy didn’t say anything as she pulled the ponytail out of her hair and began undressing. Trish’s smile faded, she must’ve sensed something.
“I have an idea, why don’t you come out with Lillian and I, we’re going to this hot nightclub where Chris is performing. I mean Fozzy.” She quickly corrected. “It’ll be fun and it’s been forever since you came out with us. I think Matt said he’s bringing Amy.”
Stacy forced a smile but just shook her head. “Not tonight, my shoulder’s really bothering me.”
Trish didn’t look convinced but she wasn’t going to push anymore. “Fine, maybe next time then.” She said grabbing her bag and jacket. “Later.”
Again Stacy forced a smile until the door closed behind the leaving Diva.
God it did sound like a blast. Stacy knew Trish was really trying to get close her since they were the last single divas and their closeness in age. But recently she has been shutting the poor woman out.
It was obvious to her that there was no time to have fun anymore. How could she possibly party with her friends when they have no idea what she was going through? At first it was easy to hide behind her distracting smile, but now she was beginning to feel that people were seeing through it, especially Trish.
Stacy sighed as she stepped into the shower stall. The warm water on her body was soothing. She watched as the drops ran down the bruises all over her skin. Memories of the marks ran through her mind as she remembered how violent Shane was toward her last week.
Her breasts began to ache from how he crushed them repeatedly in his hands. The nub of her center throbbed from the harsh thrusts he pierced her with. The feeling of his mouth all over her, the thought of his eyes burning through her…suddenly Stacy’s knees buckled and she collapsed to the tiled ground.
The taste of vomit travel up her throat and she found herself throwing up all that she tried to eat this morning. The tears ran down her face as sobs overcame her. She hugged her legs to her chest and just let the shower drain away her pain, the water was suddenly cold.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<4 Months Earlier>
“Stacy, Shane McMahon would like to see you in his office.” An assistant informed while Stacy sat in make-up.
“What for?” She wondered out loud.
Lindsay, the Divas make-up artist shrugged as she applied blush to the blonde's high cheekbones. “Probably to invite you to some promotional thing in England he’s in charge of. Some other superstars were already asked to go.”
“Like who?” She had to ask.
Lindsay squinted. “Well so far I heard Shawn Michaels is going. Um, Chris Jericho, Adam, Trish was just asked, Hunter, I think all of Evolution is going actually.”
Excitement tickled Stacy’s stomach as she thought about Randy Orton going. If he was going, then she would. She felt like an immature schoolgirl always daydreaming about him, but she couldn’t help it. Ever since her break up with Andy, Randy has really been impressive, not just in the ring, but as a man. No one looked better in an Armani suit than him.
As she made her way to the McMahon’s office she couldn’t hide the smile from her face. She was really thrilled in going to England, she loved it there. Shane is such a sweetheart for inviting her.
Truthfully Stacy wished she got to know Shane a little more before he disappeared from screen. She’d never forget the fist time she saw him, he had billionaire written all over him. When he approached her to sign a contract to the WWF at the time, she was more than thrilled. He even escorted her out to the ring for the first time; she loved how nice he was.
Approaching the door she took a minute to run her fingers through her hair and flatten her skirt after putting a nice smile on she lightly knocked.
A muffled ‘come in’ sounded and she opened the door.
He sat at his desk, leaning back in his chair reading some sort of file. His eyes connected with hers before he threw the papers on his desk and stood to greet her.
Stacy took his hand and genuinely shook it while smiling a hello.
His smile reflected hers, he really had a nice smile, he was just as handsome as his father.
“Nice to see you again Stacy, please have a seat.” He gestured to one of the leather chair facing his desk and he waited for her to sit before he took his seat as well.
“Might I say how pleased I am to hear the progress you’re making on RAW.” He began.
Stacy continued smiling. “Thank you.”
“Well we’re both busy people so let me just cut to the chase. Stacy do you know what this is?” He asked tapping the file he was reading earlier.
She looked at it before shaking her head.
Shane grinned a little before nodding. “Right. This is your records, from WCW as well as your information dating all the way back to your college career.”
A tiny knot tightened in Stacy’s stomach. Her smile completely faded.
“I see it’s not happy news to you.” He remarked.
She sat still wondering what he was getting at.
“Are you familiar with the drug OxyContin?” He asked leaning back in his chair.
She answered with a tiny nod.
“It’s an illegal drug right?” He pushed.
Stacy nodded again.
Shane licked his lips before continuing. “Then how come it states here that you’ve been on it from the years 1997 to 1999?”
Taking a deep breath Stacy shamefully admitted her secret. “When I graduated from high school I dislocated my shoulder in a car accident. My doctor prescribed me this drug, I didn’t know it was illegal at the time.”
“When did you find out?” Shane asked curiously.
“About six months later.” She admitted. “But I was already addicted to the pill.”
She hated the way he was looking at her; he was disappointed she could tell.
She continued to ramble in order to save herself. “But before I signed onto WCW I quit, I threw the pills out and I haven’t looked back, I swear.”
Silence captured the room and Stacy felt like she just got in trouble by the principal for skipping class.
Shane stared at her a while longer before speaking. “Well I’m sure you know how strict we are about drug use, especially illegal drugs, had my father found this, you wouldn’t be sitting here right now.”
She nodded in shame again.
“But you should know I can’t ignore this either. We have no proof that you’ve given up the drug and since it’s a pill, there’s no real way to check your blood for remains.” He explained.
Goosebumps surfaced her body in fear for what he was about to say. Stacy didn’t want to lose her job, she loved entertainment so much and she’s already made so many friends in this company.
Shane continued boring into her eyes as he spoke. “Since I’m the one who hired you, I find myself wanting to believe you, so I’m willing to keep this under the dirt.” He finished.
Thrill washed over Stacy and she almost jumped over the desk to hug Shane in happiness. But before she could show any reaction he spoke again.
“For a small price of course.”
She was going to agree, she’d do anything for this, but the way he was looking at her with an evil smile on his lips. He looked totally different. She crouched her eyebrows in question.
“What do you have in mind?” She asked nervously.
His chuckle sounded even more evil, it sent shivers down her spine. He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m a man Stacy, what do you think?”
Rage built up inside her. She looked at the guy with disgust before jumping to her feet. “You nasty, degrading pig!” She spat. “If you for one minute think I will do something like that then you have another thing coming.”
Shane didn’t flinch, his grin remained on his lips. “No doll-face I think you do. Not only does drug use cause termination and contract severing, but I imagine you’d be spending sometime in jail as well. At least when I make a couple phone calls you will.”
Stacy was shocked. She stared furiously at her boss. She knew he was bluffing, all she had to do was mention one word to Vince and this whole disgusting nightmare will be over. Without another word she turned on her heel and walked toward the door.
“Don’t test me Stacy.” His venom voice taunted before she slammed the door behind her.
Stacy was still fuming when she reached her hotel room. She was clearly upset at what occurred earlier in Shane’s office. She still couldn’t believe what a slime ball he was. Oh and did he have her fooled. Just to think seconds before that she couldn’t stop thinking about how much of a great guy he was.
Boy did he have nerve threatening her like that. Jail time? Please! It was a simple mistake, she was a teenager for God’s sake! Oh she couldn’t wait to talk to Vince tomorrow, let him know what a dog for a son he had. Better yet, she’d talk to Linda, that should make things better.
At this point Stacy didn’t care about losing her job, and there was no way Shane was going to frighten her into bed with the whole jail talk. What a load of shit.
When her cell phone sounded from her purse, Stacy debated whether to answer it or not, but then thinking it might be Vince, she pulled the device out of her purse.
“Hello?” She spoke into the mouthpiece not bothering to hide the anger from her voice.
“Stacy!”
“Mom?” Stacy cringed at the sound of panic in the woman’s voice. “Mom what is it?”
“Stacy, there are cops here, they said they want to search the house for drugs. I don’t know what’s going on.” Kathy Keibler was hysterical.
Stacy felt a lump in her throat and she clenched the phone in anger. “Mom, just let them search, they won’t find anything, it must be a mistake.”
Kathy made Stacy stay on the phone with her until the cops left. Like she thought they came up empty handed. It took hours to calm her mother down before she was free to hang up.
In a raging fit, Stacy threw her phone against the wall causing the pieces to break apart. Her heart wouldn’t stop pounding in her chest. Shane really was that serious about the drugs. She could run, but his connections could intervene. He could actually have a bag of drugs stashed in her mother’s house next time and next thing she knows her own mother is getting hauled off to jail.
For the first time, fear came into the mix. Stacy was growing scared in how far Shane might go to prove his power.
It didn’t take long to drive back to the arena. She knew he would still be there since most of the wrestlers don’t leave the arena until the parking lot was empty. She walked in a trance not bothering to greet others who passed. There was no smile on her face this time and she didn’t bother knocking on the door before walking in.
He was standing by the window staring out at the Arizona desert. He turned when he heard her enter the room. His dark eyes glistened at the sight of her. Stacy remained at the door not wanting to move any closer, but that didn’t stop him from approaching.
His pace was slow, he walked toward her like a stalking predator, and Stacy wondered how scared she looked in his line of sight.
Without a word, his hand reached behind her and the soft click of the door locking increased her rapid heartbeats. He stared at her inches from her body, his eyes were challenging.
Stacy swallowed deeply but her throat remained dry. “Leave my mother out of this.” She began. “And I’ll do whatever you say.” A sob greeted her last words, but she held the tears in.
Shane made no reaction to her emotion. His face was lean and his eyes still threatening. When his hands went for his pants, she tried not to panic. The sound of a belt unfastening and a zipper unzipping told her enough.
Again without words, Stacy slowly sunk to her knees and took him in her mouth.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn’t supposed to go this long. Four months of his abuse was affecting her life. Stacy rocked herself to calmness before reaching for the shower knob and stopping the water. She was shivering from the cold and her body was numb. Making sure there weren’t any more signs of throwing up, Stacy wiped her face and stepped out of the stall.
She dressed slowly and brushed her hair before tying it into a tight ponytail, she wasn’t in the mood to blow dry it. Packing her things up she left the locker room and her happiness behind.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“He wants to invite his mother to stay with us next week.”
“I thought you liked his mother.” Stacy said.
Torrie grimaced as they walked down the hall backstage. Backlash was one of the biggest sporting events, Stacy loved the excitement of Pay-Per-View shows. Most of all she loved reuniting with Torrie every month too.
They were best friends in WCW where they met and both transferred to WWF at the same time. But at the beginning of the year Torrie was transferred to Smackdown to be with her husband.
“I do like his mother, she just doesn’t like me, ever since I posed in Playboy she’s been looking at me like I ran over her dog.” Torrie explained.
Stacy giggled. “Well then maybe posing in Playboy again was a bad idea.”
Her friend shrugged. “But it was for three million dollars. Who’d pass that up?”
“I did.” Stacy laughed.
“And I don’t know why you did, I still think we would’ve sold more if it were you on the cover with me and not that bitch Sable.” Torrie cursed.
“Whoa save it for the ring.” Stacy joked. Torrie was suited up and making her way to the ring for her match. She was teaming up John Cena to take on her Smackdown rival Sable and her partner Rene Dupree. Torrie accomplished a lot in the ring, she was having serious matches and was said to be performing well in them. Her husband trained her well.
“I’m so psyched.” Her friend smiled. “I love having actual matches that don’t involve perversion. I guess that’s the advantage of having women bosses.”
“What?” Stacy stopped her friend. “Women bosses?
Torrie looked puzzled. “Yea. You know Linda and Steph. They control Smackdown, you didn’t know that?”
Stacy shook her head. “No I thought Vince and Shane controlled both shows.”
This time Torrie shook her head. “Not since the draft, things were so overwhelming they decided to split control, of course the men took the cable show, and Linda and Steph took Smackdown.”
The sound of John Cena’s music filled the arena and Torrie jumped to attention. “Oh shoot I gotta go. Wish me luck.” She yelled running down the hall.
Deep in thought Stacy could only wave to her friend. “Luck.” She whispered.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“A show transfer, but why?” Vince looked shocked to hear Stacy’s request.
She stood boldly in front of his desk. Her mind was already made up. “It’ll be an easier schedule for me.” She lied.
Vince rubbed his temple. “I don’t know.”
“It’s not like I’m involved in any strong storylines, it’ll be easy to write me out.” She persuaded.
Vince shook his head. The wrinkles near his brow frowned. “But you’re one of the most popular Divas in this show. Raw is written all over you.”
Stacy frowned in desperation. “It won’t be that hard. If I become Smackdown, no one will know the difference. I’m not like the other girls here. All the other divas have such skill in the ring.”
“We can improve that.” Vince pushed. “Fit Finley is an excellent trainer.”
Stacy agreed. “Of course he is, but my body is just not in it like the others. If I go to Smackdown I feel I can improve a lot more. It will really be easier for me.”
A long silence passed before Vince sighed. “Well if that’s where your heart is, I can’t argue. We’ll surely miss you here.”
Relief swept over Stacy as she smiled her biggest. “Thank you Mr. McMahon. This really means a lot. I just don’t think I’m Raw material.”
“I beg to differ.” An all too familiar voice said from behind.
Stacy’s heart dropped as she turned to the door.
Shane stood in the opened frame, his eyes piercing her like poisoned darts. All nervousness crept through her body like needles. She felt like she could cry right there.
“Hello Shane.” Vince greeted in oblivious.
“Dad.” He nodded as he entered the room. “Evening Stacy.” He smiled with menace.
“Son. Looks like Stacy won’t be part of the Raw family anymore.” Vince announced.
“So I’ve heard.” Shane hissed as he stood dangerously close to a trembling Stacy.
She tried to plead with Vince with her eyes, but the papers covering his desk distracted him.
“I was hoping I could change her mind. She is after all an important asset to this show.” His voice seemed normal to his father, but Stacy could sense the warning behind it. He stared at her with the same challenging eyes as if daring her to say something to Vince.
She remained quiet.
“That’s what I told her.” Vince said as he began signing papers again.
“So Stacy.” Shane began. He avoided his father enough to narrow his eyes in warning. “Is there any way I can talk you into changing your mind. You are very important to this show, and we really enjoy your company as a Raw Diva of course.”
His lips were firm along with his jaw. She could tell he was holding a lot in, but he remained more than cool in front of his father.
Stacy shook as she searched for the words. She felt like she was being held at gunpoint. Finally finding the strength she softly spoke. “I g-guess I can stay.” She said. “If it means that much.”
A small triumphant smiled crossed over Shane as he continued to glare at her. “Oh it does.” He said softly back.
Vince clapped his hands together releasing some of the tension in the room. “Well it’s settled then. Terrific choice Stacy, well make sure to make things extra comfortable for you.”
Shane smiled again, Stacy looked to the ground afraid she might gag if she saw anymore.
“Now I must go check on things for the main event, son if you could join me.” He instructed heading for the door.
Shane didn’t move until Stacy looked up at him. He still had the smug look on his face as he assaulted her with his stare.
When Vince disappeared behind the door, he finally spoke in the voice she came to fear.
“Nice try.” He whispered before turning away from her and following his father.
Still breathing hard Stacy waited for the door to close before letting the long awaiting tears roll down her face.
