Part Two - The Captive Prince
The Prince came too slowly, though he did not open his eyes as he woke up. He found himself laying on something soft, and there was warmth all around him. Someone was cuddled against his back. The weight was familiar, as was the scent. Kyo sighed to himself lightly. Toshiya. He felt elated and depressed at the same time. His friend was alive, but he’d also been captured. Slowly, the blonde haired Prince moved himself from his friend’s arms, feeling that the other was still asleep. Had he been drugged too? Kyo opened his eyes and looked around himself. He was sitting on his knees, rubbing the back of his shoulder where the dart had hit him. There was nothing there now, no raised bump, no sign of the poison which had coursed through him. There was only the feeling of his wings, which were pressed into his flesh. Had the dart harmed them? His hand then goes to the collar around his neck. The collar was not that thick at all, in fact, he would not really realize he wore it save for the weight of the magic it carried. It was made of velvet, and he could feel jewels studding it. He would be unsure of the look of it until he saw it in a mirror. The magic from it was still weighing him down, making him unable to change. Would he ever be able to use his wings again anyway? He pulled at the collar for a moment, then felt over it to find the release. It had none. Spelled into place obviously. He sighed once more, then growled in annoyance, bowing his head down as he did so. His hands went down on either side of his knees, palms flat upon the pillows strewn around the area he sat in. All around him were such luxurious cushions, as well as blankets and sheets of fur and silk. In the middle of the area was a large, clear pool – most likely meant for bathing. Surrounding the area were gilded silver, jewel encrusted bars which curved in as they went upwards, forming a doomed top over the heads of the captives and their Prince. They were in a giant, bejeweled birdcage it seemed. It had to be some type of horrible joke.
He looked up once more, studying the bars. There were small doors placed around the inside ring of the cage, big enough to put food trays onto the polished tables, which sat right under the doors. That had to be the feeding station, obviously. Next to each table was a pretty cushion to sit on, and towels hung on the side of the tables, and on the floor by the tables were basins. Empty for the moment, but that was where one was supposed to wash up before and after eating. Kyo smirked to himself. Dragons always used magic for such things. He cast his eyes around once more, wondering where the toilets were supposed to be. When he did, something cold hit the side of his foot. He looked behind him, and much to his slight amusement, sat a chamber pot. The Sidhe palace was listening to his mind.
“I do not need that right now.” He told the air, in the simple language all of the realm could understand… and the chamber pot promptly disappeared. He smirked lightly, then he looked down at Toshiya, who was curled up at his side. He ran a light hand down the back of his dearest friend, who purred and snuggled closer into the pillows. Kyo smiled lightly at the reaction, and then he looked up at the rest of those who were captives with him. So many captured – but he could see that not everyone who was in the forest with him had fallen into this fate. Perhaps they’d gotten away. He hoped so. Though he knew that there would be no help for them that would come. They were the captives of the Sidhe - the most powerful creatures in the fey realm. One of Kyo’s younger siblings would take his place as heir. And . . . he would be seen as dead. He closed his eyes and sighed softly. His younger siblings were foolish, not fit to rule. He smirked to himself. It wouldn’t be the first time that someone unfit took the throne.
He moved away from Toshiya then, and stood up slowly. He walked towards the edge of the cage and looked out around the room where they were held. Beyond the bars were guards. There were just three of them. Two were seated; playing a game that dealt with flat crystals and pots. The third stood, watching over his two companions, laughing when one of them made a stupid move, or didn’t collect the crystals of their opponent when the time came to. None of them noticed that Kyo was looking out at them, watching them with a hunter’s eyes – despite the fact that he was unable to do anything to them behind those bars. His thoughts however, seemed to grow darker and darker by the moment. He felt his claws begin to extend slowly, and he tilted his head as a low growl began to purr through him – making his chest rumble. It called the attention of the three to him, the threatening sound. They stood up slowly, all three of them smirking. The young prince crouched down – his sounds growing as they came closer.
Behind him, others began to stir – coming out of their stupor in time to see their Prince being approached by the armed Sidhe men. The three Sidhe did not notice this, and they approached the side of the cage, looking in at the one that was growling at them. The small male’s noises filled the air, making it sound as though angry insects were converging on the room as a wildcat growled and a snake slithered angrily beneath their feet. The three were highly amused by the little blonde’s snarling - making light jests at him in their own language so that he would not understand. He crouched lower, planting spread fingers onto the ground, showing them his claws against the pillow in a silent threat. He bared his fangs – they were small, sharp and pretty, despite being slightly uneven and a tad bit crowded in his mouth – and the Sidhe practically cooed to see them on display. And that also served to make the Pixie angrier. He watched them closely as they came nearer – laughing in amusement at him. He knew their words were mocking, and most likely sexual. Teasing him about his fate, or how pretty he looked when he was angry. His sounds grew even louder, and behind him, he could feel Toshiya crawling up to him. The taller pixie was at his back right as the three Sidhe stood over him through the bars. The two dragons looked up at the stronger fae, both of them growling then. Toshiya moved over Kyo’s crouched form, protecting his Prince as the rest of their kind gathered closer to the bars – their own sounds beginning to fill the room as well. All of them growled, showed their fangs.
Toshiya began to pull Kyo away from the bars, taking him back into the fold of the other pixie’s bodies to protect him from the three Sidhe who wielded long staffs with bejeweled heads. The long crystals topping those staffs were the perfect conductors for strong, deadly magic. Toshiya wanted his Prince, his best friend, away from those staffs. He knew that Kyo’s temper was famous for getting him into trouble – and the trouble of death was something he did not want for the smaller male. Even if they were captives. Kyo struggled against him as the other pixies began to crowd against the bars, snarling and snapping at the three guards, who were still laughing through the bars at the collection of wildlings. The further back Toshiya went, the more his Prince began to struggle.
“Kyo-sama…. I beg of you, stand down.” Toshiya whispered softly, closing his eyes and pressing his face against the other’s neck, the touch of skin to skin sometimes able to calm even the wildest of their kind. His arms were wrapped around Kyo’s waist, and he sat back, pulling the other into his lap. He cuddled his Prince, purring softly as he did so – still working to calm the angry pixie. Beyond them, the other wildlings were attacking the cage bars, snarling and growling at their captors, trying to break through the gilded prison. The three Sidhe simply laughed at their attempts, though all of the pixies could smell the growing fear in the stronger fae. If the pixies got free, those guards would be in a great deal of trouble – from the wildlings, and, if they survived the strong, concentrated attacks which would be wrought by the dragon kith – from their superiors afterwards.
“I am doing nothing.” Kyo replied - his voice a low growl. He purred roughly back at Toshiya, who was still cuddling into his neck. He nodded gently towards the others, who were still randomly attacking the bars that imprisoned them. The guards had begun to look worried, and were by that time pointing their staffs into the cage – warning the pixies to stand back in the common tongue – so that they would be understood by the lesser fae. Of course, those under captivity were not too keen on listening to such threats, and many continued to attack the bars. Within seconds though, bodies were flying across the cage, hitting into the pillows. Thuds sounded out around the Prince and his best friend as their compatriots hit the pillows, their bodies shivering with lightening magic, which had stunned them. At the bars, the dragons were backing away from guards and their staffs.
And, a moment later – Kyo struggled bodily away from Toshiya, enraged that some of his people had possibly been wounded. He lowered himself quickly, growling as fiercely as he could - and then lunged at the bars, reaching through them as he screamed a roar as loudly as his lungs would let him. He grabbed onto the staff of the nearest guard, and he brought the Sidhe close enough to him that he could lunge into him. He dug his unsheathed claws in deeply to the man, having caught him on any flesh he could. Namely, he’d gripped into the man’s chest. He held on until his hand was knocked away, and he smiled and laughed as he brought flesh free with his claws. The Sidhe screamed in pain, and Kyo brought the hand of flesh to his lips and ate the torn out meat before the guard, growling as he suckled the bloody mess into his mouth. Another of the guards roared in rage, and before Kyo knew what was happening, he felt a bolt of lightening ride through his nerves. He threw his head back and screamed before he released the staff that he still had clutched in his hand. And then, he flew back from the bars, hitting into the pillows with a loud thud as he came to a crashing halt among them. Toshiya ran to his side, but was struck with another bolt of lightening which incapacitated him before he could reach Kyo.
Outside of the cage, the head guard barked out orders at the other unwounded one. The one with the large gash in his chest sat upon the floor, trying to breathe as he slowly healed himself. Kyo’s claws had left a horribly nasty wound in his flesh - the talons had gone deep. Had touched the Sidhe’s heart. Had he not been immortal, the wound would have killed him. However, for one such as the fae man, it would most likely simply scar. The leader and the other guard began to fire into the cage, and then one of them reached for the lever that would open the cage doors. The two Sidhe fought back those still standing, one working his way back to the Prince, while the other made sure none of the wildlings got out of the door. Once the Prince was secured, the guard brought him out, and threw him on the floor as the other backed out of the cage, and locked the door.
“Kill it.” The leader growled out at the guard which had brought the Prince out, as he’d been ordered to do. “Kill that one, and they’ll calm, they’ll be docile like all the others we’ve ever watched. See what he’s wearing - he’s royalty for them! That’s why they acted as they did! He’s instigating them to riot!”
“But this is the one Kaoru-sama claimed!” The younger guard looked up at his superior, fear clear in his eyes. To their side, the cage was full of fearful eyed pixies – all that were conscious watched their Prince’s still form with baited breath. At the back of the cage, Toshiya had not yet come too. Beneath the guard’s foot, Kyo was still out as well.
“He can find another one! Kill it, and then we can have some peace!” The leader growled. He’d leaned down to help up his wounded man – who was still in the middle of healing himself from Kyo’s attack through the bars. “That one is dangerous to us all!”
“And if I happen to not want to find another one, Captain?” Another voice came from the shadows, behind the other side of the cage. The three guards looked up in surprise . . . and slowly; a form began to move around the barred structure. “And you know, he is a Prince. What better than that to serve in my bed? To beget my children? To bear my heir? He may be dangerous, but I can tame him. Your man there is just weak.”
“My man is not weak.” The captain of the three stated, looking at the Sidhe Prince who was emerging from the darkness with great anger. “I do not care who you are, milord . . .but none of my men are weak, and you will not lie and say they are!”
“Then how did something so small cause such a great uproar, Captain? Surely you know how to contain the wildlings by now? Lightening? You should have known that would have made the most prestigious one of them lash out at you. You should have drugged the lot of them. They would have all fallen back asleep like harmless kittens. Maybe, just maybe, your man there is not the weak one indeed! Perhaps . . . . You should just be relieved of your position?”
Kaoru smiled as his face was revealed to them. He looked down at the pixie on the ground, beneath the guard’s foot. “Get off of him.” He snarled at the younger Sidhe, who instantly did as he was told to do. The Sidhe Prince approached the Pixie Prince, who was laid across the floor; the beautiful head tilted back and leaned to the side. Kaoru leaned down and picked up the unconscious wildling. He put him over his shoulder once more. Kaoru stood up, and then looked once more at the Captain of the Guard. “If he is permanently damaged, not only will I relieve you of your position . . . I will also feed you to him, bit by bit, while you’re still breathing.” And with that, Kaoru gave the man a most pleasant smile as the captain paled over and back away. The Prince of the Sidhe then turned, and made his way over to the staircase which would lead up from the holding room and into the palace above. “If any others in that cage come to harm, you will find yourselves in an even more unpleasant situation. Remember that these are the prizes of the nobility. They’re more important than you.” The Prince disappeared up the stairs, taking his prize with him.
