-Chapter two-
That night, I got the "privilege" of sleeping on Shinya's couch, with goosedown pillows and a warm comforter. But, it was much better then sleeping in a cold, dark, not to mention wet alleyway with only a cardboard box as my pillow and a garbage bag as my blanket.
Also that night, I had a very strange dream. I was walking through a deserted city street, probably in Tokyo or else somewhere in Japan, since there were Japanese signs hanging everywhere. I could see a full moon suspended in the sky. There was a tangible silence in the air, except for a soft whispering voice all around me. As I looked around, I could see no one, which gave me the creeps just a little bit. I was wearing a form-fitting black dress, with a little lace bow tied beneath my bust. The dress was kind of like a corset from my waist up. As soon as the corset ended, a skirt began, much like a ballerina's tutu. Ribbons were tied around both my wrists and my neck. But was really odd was that around my mouth was another black ribbon, keeping me from speaking.
As I continued down the dark street, someone's cold hand clasped around my neck and I stopped dead in my tracks. I could feel them leaning towards my ear and then a male voice whispered, "Scared?" He asked. I nodded. "Good," He growled, before tightening his grip. That was when I jerked awake.
I glanced around the room. It was dawn, everything was silent. The windows were wide open, letting bright light spill over the carpets. I sighed, letting myself relax and slowly lay back down.
Just as I was about to close my eyes and fall back asleep, something small and furry jumped on my lap, ran up to my face and a tiny tongue began lapping at the tip of my nose. Once again, I flew up in shock. I looked down to see a tiny Chihuahua sitting on the blanket covering me.
I couldn't help but break into a little grin and picked up the dog. "Hi," I said in a baby voice. "What's your name, cutie?" I held the dog close to me and stroked its tiny head.
"Miyu," Shinya said as he walked past me to go to the kitchenette that was attached to his living room.
"Huh?" I was puzzled by his sudden outburst.
"The dog, her name is Miyu," Shinya said.
I looked down at the adorable dog sitting in my arms, shivering. "Aww," I cooed. "You are just the sweetest thing," I looked up at Shinya. "Don't tell anyone I was talking like this to a dog," I said in my normal voice.
He gave a little smile. "Don't worry," He reassured me quietly.
I was about to thank him when a buzz was heard. Shinya walked over to his intercom, and pressed a button. "Yes?" He said.
"It's Toshiya," I heard from where I stood. "I'm here to make sure you're both okay, can I come up?"
"Sure," He said, then looked at me wordlessly.
I looked away, then looked back. He was now looking at the floor, blushing. "Uh, what?" I asked, shifting in my place.
"Nothing," He paused. "I expected you to be… worse,"
"Worse?" I wanted to pretend I didn't what he was talking about. But I knew he thought I was going to be a bitch to him, or something like that. Or, at least I thought I knew.
"While you were in the shower," He began. "We were talking. All the others warned me that you were a streetwalker, and that you might… do things,"
That was a shock. I had been mistaken for many things, but never a slut. It hurt, to say the least. I bit back my tears of anger. "Th-things? What things?" I was still clutching onto Miyu like a comfort object.
He was now blushing furiously. "Like, you'd p-probably want to-" Someone knocked at the door. Shinya rushed over to open it, leaving me completely bewildered. My mouth had dropped like a dead fly.
Shinya opened the door and Toshiya entered. "It's icy out there," He commented on the weather.
"You… you…" I couldn't even speak. "I can't believe you!" I shrieked at Toshiya. "You called me a whore! I thought you were one of the normal ones! I hate you!"
Toshiya exchanged shocked looks with Shinya. "Clearly, it's icy in here too," He said slowly.
"Why do you think I'm a whore?" I asked desperately.
"Well, you did say you were on the streets for fifteen days," Toshiya said slowly. "You're only dressed in that little sweater and those jeans,"
I put the dog down on the floor. "Has it ever occurred to you that maybe I've just been having financial problems? I just got evicted a month ago. All I have now is the stuff in that bag and the clothes on my back," I snapped.
"I… I'm sorry," Toshiya looked thunderstruck, Shinya just looked nervous. "I didn't-"
"Yeah, you didn't know," I said quietly, finishing the sentence for him. I began to feel my face growing pink from embarrassment and my eyes once again stung with warm tears.
"Oh please, don't cry," Shinya gritted his teeth together, looking at Toshiya helplessly.
"I'm not gonna cry!" I barked, but my voice broke halfway through my sentence, making what I had just said completely null and void.
"Come here," Toshiya sighed, and reached out to hug me. I tried to push him away, but he just embraced me. I felt pathetic, crying in some guy's arms. But somehow it made me feel better. I bit my lip again, this time as hard as I could to stop my deplorable tears. I clutched at Toshiya's black T-shirt, my head resting reposefully on his chest, but I wouldn't look him in the eye.
"This is so humiliating," I mumbled before breaking away and walking back to the couch I had slept on the night before. I curled up under the blankets, hoping that neither man would talk to me. They didn't, much to my great relief. I just felt like being alone.
"Do you want breakfast?" Shinya asked, forced to yell a little because he was in his kitchen.
"I suppose you don't have pancakes," I yelled, sighed, and stared out into space from under my cover. Only my head was sticking out, but I was warm and fairly content for the first time in years, so I didn't care.
"No, I'm afraid not," Shinya called back.
"Just make me some noodles and I'll be fine," I rolled over onto my side.

Die, Kyo and Kaoru came over later, I stayed under my safety blanket. They all talked and laughed, I was only half-listening. Most of the time I was thinking about how incredibly lucky I actually was. I mean, a total stranger was letting me stay in his house. That in itself was amazing. But I knew I had to leave some time or another.
"Are you gonna stay like that forever?" Die poked at my leg. I just gave a childish moan and hid my head from sight, curling up into the fetal position. I felt him sit down beside me, and he pulled the blanket away.
"Noooo," I sounded just a twelve-year-old who didn't want to go to school in the morning. "Give it back," I tried to grab it from him, but he just held it away.
"What’s your story?" He asked, looking at me with that stupid devilish grin of his.
I sat back onto my shins and crossed my arms, careful not to touch the painful spots on my abdomen. My head had just a dull ache. "Story?" I raised my brows.
"You know, why did you leap out in front of our car?" He said. "Explain,"
"It really isn't any of your business, is it?" I sighed, exasperated. "I was looking for a quick way out, and I saw that as my opportunity,"
"I don't understand," Kyo eyed me with a little suspicion in his eyes. "Wait, were you trying to commit suicide?"
I tipped my head to the side and shot him a resentful look. He just nodded slowly. "So, don't you ever get tired of wearing the same clothes all the time?"
I smirked, picking up Miyu who was randomly sniffing the floor. "What do you think?" I asked, running my hand absent-mindedly across Miyu's back.
I sat back on the couch, stroking Miyu affectionately. I glanced at Die.
"Are you wearing contact lenses?" He was staring right at me, making me feel a little violated. "I've never seen grey eyes like that before,"
"No, I don't have contacts," I answered. "And I prefer to call my eyes 'silver' instead of grey,"
"We have practice today," Kaoru interrupted. "We better leave now if we wanna make call time," He looked at me. "You'll be okay here on your own, right?"
I huffed. "I hate being on my own, though," I shrugged.
"Maybe we could bring her…?" Toshiya sounded unsure while he spoke. "It wouldn't hurt," I peered at Kaoru through pleading, innocent eyes.
Kaoru looked me over again. Finally, he sighed, slightly aggravated. "Fine, she can come,"
I grinned and got off the couch, put Miyu on the ground and grabbed my bag, following close behind Kyo as they all filed out the door. Without any warning, Kyo stopped right in his tracks, causing me to walk into his back.
"Why'd you stop?" I glanced over his shoulder. He turned around.
"You tried to commit suicide," he stated, sounding dark. I frowned.
"Yeah, ok, don't remind me," I stared at the wall.
"Why?" He asked.
I didn't want to answer, but if I didn't, it would seem awkward. "Because I had nothing left, and I was just at such a low point that I thought I'd hit rock bottom," I paused, biting my lip. 'I have to quit this little habit,' I thought. "And death is a release, not a punishment," I remembered that thought that had run through my head last night.
Kyo's lips curved into a dismal smile, but he didn't say anything. I tipped my head to the side, looking at him curiously. "Ladies first," He gestured to the door.
I smirked and shook my head, laughing as I exited Shinya's apartment.
