She watched him as he carried her down the steps of her dorm building watching out for steps.
"You don't sleep much anymore." It was more of a statement then a question.
"That was random. What makes you say that?" She regretted saying anything knowing she couldn't lie to him and he wouldnt let it go, he never did. She cocked her head watching him speak without even looking at her.
"Your bed was made." He knew better than to let her know he watched over her outside of his class room. That would open up a can of worms he didn't have time to dive into and sort out.
"Maybe I am a good girl or I could be a neat freak." Only then did he look at her but his look wasn't comforting. He knew she was hiding something and it scared her. She became serious and as he set her down she meant to face him and put a stop to this. However, he had interupted her by telling her to lean on him so she did.
"Hop up." She felt Kiefer's arm lift her as she used her good foot to help her into the truck. He took the pillow that he had grabbed from her bed and placed it under the inujred left foot to support it during the ride home.
"Thank you." She spoke softly as if to speak loudly was forbidden. Kiefer cloed the door without even looking at her and jogged away to get her luggage from the room.
"What the hell am I doing?" Kiefer spoke out loud to no one in particular. He wondered if part of him actually thought he was going to get away with seducing a student while his mother stayed with him. Not one part of him thought about the consequences of what he was about to do. He was going to get involved with a younger woman who he was supposed to be watching after not lusting after. He didn't think about what he would do when he got bored with her. He always came to the point where he was bored with every woman he was with, but of course Katie was not like any other one.
He got in the door and grabbed her case looking around the room one more time, making sure it looked like she left, to cover her tracks, and his. There was not much he didn't already know about Katie. If he didn't leave now he would give her more reason not to trust him and thats exactly what he needed from her, complete trust plus other things.
As Kiefer appraoched the truck he could see her fight to stay awake and she was getting herself worked up over it. He smiled and hopped in surprising her since she was busy enough not to see him coming.
"Penny for your thoughts?" His voice much softer now, not the usual commanding one that demanded her attetion.
"I don't know. I go from thinking you hate me and never want to see me again to going home with you."
"I don't hate you . . " He was interrupted by the ringing of her cell phone.
"Hey Val." She said after recognizing the name on the caller id.
“Hey girlie. Are you having fun by yourself or what? I can’t believe you’re such an agoraphobic. Why haven’t you called? Mom said you could have come with us! Did you ever get the chance to have it out with the Professor from Hell?” Kiefer wondered if Katherine ever got a word in when talking to Valerie.
“I was. I am not. Been busy. Tell her I said maybe for the renewing of her and John’s vows. We talked and it is kind of in the air right now.”
Kiefer had to chuckle. He was glad that she had someone that she was close to. He would have to make sure that it stayed that way. Katie didn’t realize how much she was going to need Val. He noticed she wouldn’t look at him so he decided to mess with her a little bit. Kiefer placed his hand on her knee and slowly made his way up her thigh. Every time his hand moved it became more difficult for Katie to control her voice and speak normally.
“Val, I am very . . .Oh god . . . glad that you are having fun but . . .oh Lord . . .I have to go.” She said quickly. Val was confused but let her go anyway. Katie’s legs seemed to have a mind of their own as they opened up and seemed to ache for her Professor’s hand to move further. The sound that escaped her mouth was a mix between a moan and a sigh. Kiefer knew that this was not the time to get into something so personal so he patted her leg and just stayed where he was. She sighed and sank further into the seat only wincing when she moved her foot the wrong way.
“Tired?” she conceded.
“Yeah. I’ve had a lot going on lately.” He nodded as if he knew her answer already. Pulling out onto the highway and watching out for other cars, he leaned down and pulled out his favorite thermos and handed it to her waiting for her to take it.
“Drink this. It will help you relax.” He could see her disbelieving look in the corner of his vision. “I am serious. It is not poison I promise.” She raised her eyebrow in question but shrugged it off and had a sip or two. In a few moments Kiefer noticed she was slipping into a deep slumber but not before mumbling about kicking his ass if she died. He chuckled and patted her thigh.
“Almost home Katie.” He knew that it was strange for him to be so informal with someone but he knew that over the next month or so a lot more things would change between them, so why not this.
Waking up was a slow process. She opened her eyes to find she wasn’t in her dorm room. For one the bed was absolutely too large to be hers and it was warm and smelled like Kiefer. She knew if she didn’t get up now she never would.
“I see you’re awake.” A strange woman called from the other side of the room. She was tall and lanky, round about the Professor’s age.
'Oh no! I bet that’s his wife and she is going to kill me.'
“Shower is over there and dinner is in an hour.” She said as she returned to picking up clothes. Another woman entered the room but she was smaller and her face appeared much kinder.
“Martha, really? Afternoon honey. We should get going." Katie frowned.
“You know me but I have no clue who you are?” The small woman laughed.
“Just call me Mary or momma if you like.” Katie smiled when she sat up but frowned when she tried to put weight on her left foot.
Kiefer sat waiting in the dinning room for his mother and Katherine. He knew that he would need a moment alone with her to explain the rules of her stay. He liked to have order in his house. He wanted her to know what she was getting herself into. He watched as she limped into the living room and jumped up to take her from his mother.
“Mother, you could have called me to help.”
“Really, I’m ok.” Katie forced a smile. Mary only laughed more.
“You should have seen the look on her face when I suggested you carry her in.” Kiefer knew his mother was kidding but she didn’t know the implications of that action. Katie forced a laugh to hide the reaction she had to being near him. She didn’t want to get him in trouble and with his mother no less.
“Honey, I have a date tomorrow. James is going to pick me up at the museum and we are going to dinner afterwards.” Kiefer rolled his eyes and Katie giggled.
“You know how I disapprove of that man, Mother.”
“I know Honey but he is fun and treats me good.”
“Very well mother, have it your way.” Kiefer sighed at looked Katie in the eyes.
“You comfortable?” Katie only nodded not trusting her voice. Kiefer smiled at her obvious nervousness. “Don’t worry,” he said in a voice low enough so only Katie could hear. “Mother doesn’t bite, and I don’t bite unless you ask me to.” He smiled and Katie felt a small shiver down her spine.
“Honey, I don’t know about Katie but I’m getting hungry. Lets eat please.”
“If Mamma isn’t happy, no one is happy.” Katie retorted without thinking. Mary laughed heartily and smiled.
“That was well said suga.” Kiefer smiled and began setting the plates in front of his dinner guests.
“This smells absolutely delicious Professor.” Kiefer almost corrected her but thought better since in the presence of his mother.
“Thank you Katherine.”
Two hours later sitting around the fire, Katie was sitting on the floor laughing from hearing stories about Kiefer as a young child.
“I thought I was going to lose it when he tried to be superman and jump off the roof. The chairs or couch in the living room weren’t high enough for him. All of my friends thought I was beating him with the amount of bruises he got from doing foolish stunts.”
“I can see him doing that.” Kiefer just sat drinking his coffee with a patient smile.
“I think that we have had enough stories about me for one night.”
“Your right. We got to save some for another night.” Katie said laughing trying to get up so she could take her cup and wash it but her foot was still bothering her.
“Let me get that Katherine.” Katie sat back down and handed him the cup.
“I hate this.”
“It will be a few days before you can start walking on it again.” Both women heard a voice call out from the kitchen.
“Meanwhile I’m going stark raving mad sitting here like I am crippled.” Katie argued and sighed. Mary smiled and sat next to her.
“It’ll be fine. There is a plus side to this.”
“What’s that?” Katie tried to get rid of her frustration.
“I get to see him dote on someone rather then me.” Katie laughed.
“He loves his mother.”
“That he does. Cheer up suga. You will love it when your husband does the same thing to you. Meanwhile I am going to pick out what I’m going to wear tomorrow. You know, you and I should go out one day and shop when your foot is doing better.”
“I would love that Mary. Thank you.” Mary smiled and walked upstairs.
“Where is my mother going?” Kiefer asked returning to the room only to see his mother walking up the stairs.
“To pick out her outfit for the date tomorrow night.” Kiefer made a noise that sounded a lot like disapproval and sat down on the floor across from Katie.
“You really don’t like this guy do you?”
“Lets just say he gets on my nerves. End of subject, now did you have fun discussing me with my mother?”
“Never pegged you as a boy who would get into everything.”
“Really? What did you have me pegged as?” Kiefer retorted.
“I don’t know. A book worm I guess.” 'How wrong you are, Katie.' “Guess what I was like when I was a kid.” Katie challenged him. Most people could guess easily but she just wanted to hear what he would say.
“Lets see . . .” Kiefer tried to remember her file and what the description said and what he had seen over the years he had been watching her.
“You were a tomboy, mostly an introvert. Loved to read books and daydream, am I close?” Katie nodded slowly, He knew more than she thought. “A daddy’s girl, very loving towards family and friends, hit the nail on the head?” Katie nodded again. Kiefer moved closer to her knowing she couldn’t move very far with her injured foot. He spoke deeply in her ear.
“Did I ever say I was sorry for your foot?” She shivered and nodded yes.
“I told you it wasn’t your fault.” She whispered. Kiefer leaned into her neck and placed a small kiss beneath her ear and began placing small kisses on her neck and collarbone.
“Your mother,” Katie began but Kiefer hushed her.
“It will take her hours to find the perfect outfit. Don’t worry.” He resumed kissing her.
The feelings she was having were conflicting with each other. The heat from the fire was doing nothing to calm the chills and shivers her body was creating. Even though she knew she was sitting still on the floor her stomach felt as if she was riding the scariest roller coaster.
“Cold?” Kiefer’s voice cut through the fog in her head and she shook her head. “In class you never hesitate to shout answers back at me, now you are speechless. What is so different?” He sat back and looked her in the eye waiting for her answer.
“In class there were more people around and in class you weren’t kissing my neck.” She spoke with a little more confidence. Kiefer suddenly moved away from here and sat back on the couch. Katie’s face fell. She knew she shouldn’t have been so direct with him like that. Mary came down the stairs and it hit Katie. That is why he moved away from her.
“Honey, where is the box of chocolates that you got me? They weren’t on my bed!”
“What makes you think I bought you chocolates again? You know you can’t be having that many sweets.” Mary came into the living room and glared at Kiefer with her hands on her hips.
“I know because you always buy me chocolates when I come over.”
“They are in the fridge behind the orange juice.” Both occupants of the living room could hear Mary rummaging through the fridge and saw her walking out of the kitchen with a smile on her face.
“Life is so much easier when you just agree with me and go along with what I say.” Katie flashed back to a time in class when Kiefer told her the same exact thing. Mary walked away and a few seconds later you could hear the door close and music playing.
“Like mother, like son.” Katie mumbled and Kiefer had to resist the urge to chuckle.
“I’m sure you slept well?”
“Thanks to your wonder drink.”
“Like I said you haven’t been sleeping much. I guess I have a bigger tolerance for it than most people.” He explained leaning back on his elbows. She missed the warmth his body brought her. She let her gaze wander to the floor, He lifted it back towards him with his index finger.
“If you are sure you want this continue, I must have you understand one thing. Anything I ask of you must be done. Call me weird or sick but I need your complete trust and total submission.” Kiefer kissed her on the top of her head and then got up to leave the room. “Think about it, Ok?” He said before he actually left.
