This is a work of fiction. I do not know Johnny Depp. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Playing like big boys
Benicio del Toro
If there was a need to explain their friendship, Johnny could have said it was every boy’s dream. Kids play cops and robbers, he and Benicio played crooks all over Las Vegas. Hopefully without the cops, but always with a lot of drinks that burn as they go down the throat. But nobody ever asked them about their friendship and Johnny was glad, because there were the parts that wouldn’t be as easy to relate. Times when these big boys stopped playing with their toys and started playing with… well, as was said, nobody ever asked Johnny about that part.
---
There’s not much for Johnny to ask for, but if there’s one thing he’d like, it would be to talk like Benicio. He likes his own voice well enough, but sometimes, just sometimes, when he listens to the other man, he’d like his voice having that effect. It’s almost like the sound dances through the air, crawls under your skin and shoots up your spine only to make your head spin. Johnny has to listen when Benicio talks and he can never hear enough. That low, rough growl is his newest addiction and Johnny loves the high it gives him.
---
Getting into a bar fight is nothing entirely unusual. It clears the air among the guys. Like rain on the pavement, it’s a bit messy, but afterwards everything’s all the better for it. But this time it’s a bit different. Johnny had his share of fights, but he’s never gotten a punch from a friend without seeing it coming or wanting it. He wasn’t prepared for that bunch and he took it badly. Even in his drunken daze he knows that much. Now he keeps on drinking because given the choice, he’d rather not be able to think right now.
