Two days later, Angel and his employees, Wesley Wyndam-Pryce and Charles Gunn were sitting in the meeting room across from their new client, Orlando Bloom. Lorne had arranged the meeting, but was unable to attend himself, because he was needed in another department where it was believed there might have been a security breach.
“So, Mr. Bloom, please tell what it is you need us to do.” Wesley said, looking at the young man.
“Well, I don’t know really. There’s just been happening to many strange things in my new flat, and my agent told me to hire you, so…”
“Like what things?” Gunn asked.
Orlando looked down at his hands as he thought about the strange occurrences.
“Well, I’ve heard doors opening and closing at night, when no one else has been there but me. Things have been moved and…” Orlando stopped. He needed to take a deep breath before continuing, as this thing was really freaking him out. ”And a couple of days ago, when I got home someone had written some graffiti on my bedroom wall.”
Angel couldn’t help but roll his eyes. To him it sounded like a standard stalking, which wasn’t exactly what they dealt in.
“What did the graffiti say?” Wesley asked.
“I see you.” Orlando replied, “Which has me thinking it might be some fan who’s going a little bit too far.”
“Hm…” Wesley said, frowning, “Do you know what kind of paint was used?”
Orlando shook his head.
“Why didn’t you just go to the police with this?” Angel asked, thinking this was all a waste of time.
“Well, I would have but…” Orlando hesitated, “This is gonna sound so weird, but I found this really strange mark outside my front door and when I told my agent about it, he said to call you and not the police.”
“Yes, I see. Mr. Bloom would it be at all possible for you to draw us a sketch of the mark you found? It might help us in the investigation.”
“Investigation?” Orlando looked surprised, “I thought this was a law firm?”
“It is, but we also help people with problems that are supernatural in nature.” Wesley replied, “and it seems to me like this may have either a stalker on your hands, or a ghost.”
“Ghost?” Orlando’s eyebrows were inching toward his hairline. “But ghosts aren’t real…are they?”
“Man! Ghosts, vampires, witches…it’s all real.” Gunn said.
“I think…maybe I’ve come to the wrong place…I’ll just…leave.” Orlando said standing up, fully intent on walking out the door. These people were obviously insane.
“Mr. Bloom,” Angel said, finally deciding to join in the conversation. “If Wesley thought there might be something to this, then he was willing to give this case the benefit of the doubt. “I know this must come as a shock to you, but what Gunn said is true. All those things are real. And if what’s happening at your place is in fact some thing supernatural, then I assure you that we are the people to take of it.”
Orlando wasn’t sure what to do. This seemed ludicrous. But, he really did want this taken care of, and his agent had recommended them, so maybe they really were that good. Even if they did seem ready for the loony bin. With a sigh he sat back down.
“Right, so you want me to draw a picture of the mark?” He looked at Wesley.
“Yes, if you please. It might help us determine what we’re dealing with.” Wesley smiled a little to try and get Orlando to settle down. He was clearly shaken by what he’s just learned.
“We’d also like to take a look around your place if that’s alright?” Angel asked.
“Yeah…sure, whatever you need, I just want this to end.” Orlando replied rubbing his neck.
Wesley pushed a legal pad and a pencil over to Orlando and Orlando started drawing the mark he’d found.
***********
About 15 minutes later Orlando had finished the drawing and now Wesley and Angel were looking at it making all kinds of “mm hmm’s” and “Aha’s” Well, mostly Wesley were making the sounds and Angel just looked…well constipated really. Orlando found he had to really focus to hold back the snicker he felt was trying to escape him. It was just really funny seeing these people, and the way they worked.
Gunn, seemed pretty normal. He just at there, looking over some papers that might or might not have anything to do with Orlando’s situation.
Wesley, well Wesley had gotten this really strange glint in his eyes when Orlando had mentioned the mark, and now Orlando know why. It was easy to see that Wesley was really into this mystical stuff.
Angel, he was a mystery. When Orlando had first come in, Angel had barely spared him a glance, making it very obvious, that this was not how he would have preferred spending the afternoon. When the meeting had started, Angel had been listening to what was going on, but he had only been listening. Hardly a word had been spoken by him. But now, as he and Wesley looked at the mark, he seemed almost as into it a Wesley was. But he obviously was having a hard time showing it. It was as if he couldn’t or wouldn’t show feelings, and Orlando couldn’t help but wonder what was up with that.
Wesley was nodding as Angel whispered something, and then he looked up at Orlando.
“Mr. Bloom, would it be at all possible for us to go have a look at your apartment today?” He asked.
“Absolutely!” Orlando confirmed, “The sooner this is taken care of, the better.” He couldn’t quite control the shudder, as he thought about it.
“Great. Then Angel and a few other people will come by tonight, and in the meantime I’ll try to cast some light on the purpose of this mark.”
“So you don’t know what it is then?” Orlando asked. He had actually gotten the impression that they knew exactly what it was when they had been whispering about it.
“We have an idea, but we’re not a hundred percent sure, so I’d prefer if Wesley looked into it some more.” Angel said.
“Alright, so who’ll I be expecting tonight then?” Orlando asked. He wanted to know exactly who would show up, as he didn’t want to risk letting whoever was doing this to him in.
“Myself, Gunn and Illyria.” Angel said, understanding why Orlando needed to know.
“And you’ll all be arriving together I presume?”
“Yes, so if anyone shows up claiming to be from Wolfram and Hart, and Gun or I’m not there, don’t let them in, alright?”
“Alright.” Orlando stood up, “So I’ll see you tonight then.” He shook each of their hands, noticing that Angel’s was a lot cooler than the others’, but he didn’t think anything of it, and then he walked out of the office.
His mind was running at 100 mph, trying to wrap his head around what he’d been told about vampire and ghosts. He still wasn’t sure he was ready to accept and believe that it was all real. It just seemed too…well surreal.
Before he’d walked 5 feet, he felt someone crash into him from the right. He stumbled back trying to regain his balance, when he heard a voice sneer,
“Bloody hell! Watch where you’re going!”
Orlando looked up and saw a guy, probably about his age, with hair so blond it bordered on white, looking for all the world like he just stepped out of the 1980’s. He was looking at Orlando like he was something he just scraped off his worn Doc Martens.
“Sorry.” Orlando said with a shrug and began moving toward the elevators.
Before the elevator doors closed, he heard the punk shouting at someone,
“Peaches, will you please tell Blue that I’m not her personal punching bag?”
Orlando decided this had to be the strangest law firm he’d ever had the joy of visiting.
********
Angel looked up at Spike with nothing but contempt.
“Now why would I wanna do that?” He asked.
Spike sneered at Angel and then decided to change the subject. Addressing Gunn, he asked,
“So Charlie-boy, what’s on the agenda today?” He rubbed his hands together, looking like…well kinda like a spoiled kid on Christmas.
Before Gunn could answer Spike, Angel jumped in,
“Gunn is going with me and Illyria to visit a new client. You are going to go home, where ever the hell that is, and preferably not come back.” Angel gritted out. It was amazing how much Spike could get on his nerves, and really it had to be a miracle that he hadn’t been driven round the bend by the younger vampire.
“A new client eh? Sounds interesting.” Spike said, “Right, that’s it, I’m going with to visit this client, as I’m sure you could use my expertise in the field.” Spike gave a sharp nod, as if confirming to himself what he’s just said.
“First of all, you don’t have any expertise Spike, and second of all, even if you did…you don’t even know what the damn case is, so how would you know if your expertise was needed?” Angel asked. He was about one second away from tearing Spike a new one.
“That bloke I just bumped into out in the hall yeah?” Spike looked from Gunn to Angel, “That’s the new client. Whatever the case is, I want in. Bloke was all kinds of alright looking.”
Angel rolled his eyes. Would The Powers never ever give him a break? Ever? ‘Cause right now, he felt all of his 250-some years.
