*sorry this is mostly dialogue...I wrote it kinda fast.."
Never is a promise and you can't afford to lie
"Why'd you leave me?" she asked, finally breaking the silence.
"I wish I knew"
"Come on...there had to of been some reason. I don't care what you can say."
"I honestly don't know."
Sara sighed and turned away. I wished I could've known what she was thinking. A rush of cool air hit me and at the same time Sara whispered "it's cold."
I draped an arm over her shoulder. I felt her body tense up. She pushed my arm off and said " That wasn't a hint. I am just cold that's it."
"You're a fucking idiot Gerard." I told myself over and over.
"I love you!" I said regretting it immediately.
"You left me."
"Doesn't mean I don't love you"
"But saying 'I don't love you anymore' does"
"It means nothing now..."
"It means the world now.. The moment it happened hammered in my head. It wouldn't stop for five months."
"Why'd it stop?"
"I met a guy."
It felt as if someone had punched me in the gut. I couldn't grasp the concept of her with someone besides myself.
How? I thought. How could she move on???? Being without her plagued me like a disease, kept me awake weeks at a time, nearly killed me. HOW?!?!
"Don't get upset. That wouldn't be fair" she spoke aas calmly as ever.
"How so?"
"Telling someone you don't want to be with them anymore is pretty much saying 'go find someone else to fake loving you like I did'"
"I love you.."
"Stop saying that"
"It's the truth..why lie? Why act like it'll end like a fairy tale"
"It'll be ok. You'll find someone else."
"But I don't want anybody else"
"Then why did you leave me?"
I stopped myself from answering with "I love you". There was nothing I could say to convince her of those three little words.
"what do I have to do to get you?"
"You already had me. I was in your web waiting for you to prey upon me, but you let me go."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
" I was patiently waiting for you to propose..apparently too patiently."
I placed my hands on here cheeks and turned her beautiful face towards mine.Her eyes took me to another place, one where I was fearless.
"Will you marry me?"
"What??"
"Marry me.." ,I whispered, "please"
"I have a boyfriend" she didn't look so sure of her response.
"Only for what?? A month? We were together for six years."
"Keyword is..were.."
"please"
"I don't ever want to marry you. I never will."
"Don't say that please.." A single tear rolled down my cheek.
"Why? It's the truth."
"Please stop."
"WHY??"
"Cause never is a promise."
"Yes. I'm promising it. I'm sorry. I didn't want to be mean but.." She looked away, biting her lip. "I'm sorry" she unsteadily whispered. "I'm just so confused."
Sara buried her face in her hands and I wrapped my arms around her. This time she let me hold her. It only made me grow closer to her. What a mistake.
