Kaoru could barely sleep that night. He just couldn’t get his mind off the conversation earlier that evening with the mysterious woman. He needed someone to talk to, but whom? He made a mental note of all his friends. He knew he couldn’t go to any of them. He could only count with his best friend for something like this, Kyo. But it was now the middle of the night, and Kyo would kill him if he called now. This would have to wait until the morning.

After hours of light, and troubled sleep Kaoru decided to get up and go visit his friend. This was too important to talk over the phone. Besides, as it is now all his troubles had begun with a phone call, he wanted to stay as far away as possible from that dreadful thing. It was Tuesday morning so Kyo would be in his apartment.

After a short drive Kaoru reached Kyo’s apartment. He knocked slowly on the door, not wanting to wake up the neighbors. There was no answer, so he increased his knocking. After a while, and Kaoru was pounding very loudly on the door, a sleepy Kyo answered the door.

“What is it? Why do you disturb this monster’s slumber?”

Kyo growled. Kaoru smiled at the short man poking his puffy blonde haired head.

“It’s just me Kyo. Let me in, please. I need to talk to you.”

“I know it’s you, no one else would have woken me up so early in the morning.”

He fully opened the door allowing Kaoru access to his apartment. They both sat on a couch facing each other. Kyo seemed a bit more awake now.

“What’s bothering you?”

As usual, Kyo went straight to the point. Kaoru explained Kyo everything. The shorter man just sat there thinking over every detail his friend was giving him.

“Hmm…”

“Yes?”

“Want a cup of coffee?”

“What?!”

Kyo ignored the perplexed look in his friend’s face and walked towards his kitchen.

“Hey don’t just leave me here!”

“I think better with coffee.”

The short man reappeared with two cups of coffee.

“Here”

“No thanks.”

“Take it”

“Will you listen to me Kyo!”

“I did, and I think you need to relax and drink your coffee.”

Kaoru eyed him murderously but Kyo didn’t shudder.

“Fine”

“Good boy”

“I’m not a boy! I’m older than you!”

“Well, stop acting like one!”

“Didn’t you hear what I said? How can you be so calm?”

“I heard your tale, but I don’t know what the problem is. I remember the first time you got a striptease job, you were just like you are now.”

“There is a difference.”

The older man couldn’t believe his young friend. How could he compare the two?

“No there isn’t.”

“Of course there is! They want me to do this in front of a bunch of men I don’t even know!”

Kaoru was losing his patience by now.

“Have you ever known any of the females you’ve performed for?”

Kyo calmly stated. He knew the answer to this question.

“No. But that’s not the point.”

“Exactly. You’re just making excuses. You’re just afraid you might enjoy it.”

Kyo smirked mischievously at his friend.

“No!”

“And why not? Because you’re so damned straight?”

“I am!”

“Haven’t you told me countless times before that you’re a performer and you don’t care who your audience is?”

“I meant if they were old, or young, or good looking. Not male or female!”

“Then decline the job.”

“I need the money.”

“Then do it.”

“I can’t”

“You can’t or you won’t?”

“I don’t know.”

“Then I’ll go to sleep, when you know wake me up.”

He stood and started walking towards his bedroom. Kaoru jumped and grabbed his hand stopping him. He looked up at Kyo from the couch with sad puppy eyes.

“No please Kyo I need your help!”

“And I’m giving it to you, but you won’t listen!”

“Alright, I promise I’ll listen, just don’t leave me.”

Kyo sighed and sat back in the couch with his friend. Just who could resist his friend’s puppy eyes?

“Kaoru we’ve been friends forever, you know I won’t leave you to the wolves. You need the money, and it’s not a bad offer. I’ll even help you pick the music and clothes for your performance.”

“Really? Oh thank you so much!”

Kaoru hugged his short friend out of pure excitement. They both blushed and laughed.

“Well, what are you waiting for? Get off that cute butt and let’s get to work!”

The younger one playfully slapped the elder’s butt making him jolt up with a surprised look. They laughed and got to work on Kaoru’s routine.
